debra, put me in the camp of "i know robin's going to be gone, but debra's got me doubting it" nice to show all the scheming, though if the girls are going to be loyal to each other, why bother? to practice? or to see if the other two are up to something? it's fun to read, anyway.
i laughed when everyone is missing the coffee, and then this feast comes out of the air, but no coffee in it. really wanted kendra to go "i said coffee dammit" still champagne is a nice consolation, but no wonder they didn't get anything done the rest of the day.
also nice to throw them off balance with challenge in the morning. and i'm the one who thought kenda would win challenge to go to the final two, though now that she won this one, i'm less sure of that, so feel free to prove me spectacularly wrong.
i like how willow never takes her eyes off tara, wonder if she heard anything jeff said at all? ( and jeff doing unnecessary math :lol ) i'm sure a clean, fed, and flirty willow must've looked like a mirage to tara at this point, i'm so glad you did the dual storylines or i'd be worrying for them about now ( not too worried, cause it's pens and it's you, but still, more worried) nice to already know that it's worked out for them. ~ mary

You had me a little worried there when Tara didn't get the immunity idle this time. But fortunately they made the right decision and voted Robin off. It would have looked really bad for Faith and Kendra to break their alliance this close to the end plus Robin is stronger than both of them so he could easily win a final physical challenge where Tara could not.

I have been thinking about who should bring who to the final two and I noticed something interesting. Out of the three left I don't recall anyone ever voting against Kendra. I can't quite decide if that is a good or bad thing. It could mean that no one thinks she has a shot at winning so they don't try to vote her off or it could mean that they don't hate her so she could get their vote because of that. It is hard to guess how the jury will vote in the end. Of course I am still hoping for Tara or Faith to win it all.

Another great update and I can't wait to see who the final two are.

SakuraEtsuko – Thanks Lol. I totally understand about the lurking. Thanks for delurking! Good guess.

Kajun – Cool thoughts about Willow’s really playing the game so that Tara would win. It would not only show a keen puzzle mind which we know but that Willow is truly committed to Tara; why else would she want her to win?

Tara is also the brainy type and more than capable of devising her own strategy
I will say that Tara’s strategy has been 100% go on the island and do nature thing: provide, make fire, heal, etc.

You’re right about Robin
Can’t wait to see Ariel’s reaction when she finds out Tara is in the final three!
Sorry to say that due to the way the thing is broadcast, you won’t see Ariel again until after the finale show is over. Thanks for everything.

nice to show all the scheming, though if the girls are going to be loyal to each other, why bother? to practice? or to see if the other two are up to something?
I actually think it’s usually a defensive measure. If you are worried that people will concoct a plan against you using a lynchpin (in this case Robin), if you concoct one first, that takes their chance away. You then don’t have to carry through with the plan, you just take away their chance at it.

That line would have been so funny from Kendra. I guess I’ve given the Survivors a lot of alcohol in this fic which is kind of unusual for me. Hmmm. I guess it seems like the thing that people would really miss and would see as a reward.

i'm the one who thought kenda would win challenge to go to the final two, though now that she won this one, i'm less sure of that, so feel free to prove me spectacularly wrong.
Keep in mind I used a random number generator to determine who one challenges and got voted off so her chances of winning the next one are as good at F or T.

( and jeff doing unnecessary math )
One of the challenges I’ve had with this fic is that after reading Watson’s fantastic story and reading the Twop recaps of Survivor and Amazing Race, It’s really hard not to snark on Jeff and his style and stupid questions and recapping the count of 2 votes, etc.

Anyway, thanks for everything.

blue eyed girl – F/K/T weren’t ready to give up their alliance just yet. Good logic on why F/K wouldn’t want to break it. I think you are right that no one has ever voted against Kendra. I think that is mostly due to her strategy of laying back and letting Faith fight the battles. Good thoughts though. Thank you.

White Hat Camp – Day 37
Tara, Faith, and Kendra sit at camp slowly eating berries. They are all watching the wind in the trees and the surf break on the beach. “I w-wish we had the MFashnek buffs back.” Tara glances at her wrist.

“That would be cool,” Faith agrees.

“It’s day 37,” Kendra says disbelievingly. When no one answers her she repeats her statement. As the day progresses we see the trio going about the camp work. Occasionally one of them calls to the other. “Hey, did you know it’s day 37?”

Tara teases back at Faith. “I had heard that.” It is obvious that they are all taking the joke good naturedly. A shot of Tara fishing shows that she has caught two large fish.

“And Tara brings home the catch of the day,” the other two girls cheer as they cook the fish and serve it with the rice.

A night-vision shot shows the shelter. We can hear voices from inside the hut. “Good night, Faith. Good night, Tara.”

“Good night,” Faith answers, “did you know it’s the end of day 37?”

“I might have heard that,” Tara mumbles.

“Shut up,” Kendra says playfully.

White Hat Camp – Day 38
All three girls are eating their breakfast of plantains and coconuts as Jeff walks up at dawn. “Up bright and early I see,” he says.

Confessional Caption – Faith – Personal Trainer
“We all got up early today. We expected Jeff to come sauntering in any time. Also we wanted to put on some of Tara’s famous bug paste and sunscreen before he showed up because this final challenge is always some kind of standing around getting cramps and sunstroke thing.”

Confessional Caption – Tara – Medical Receptionist
“I really b-believe that I need immunity in today’s challenge.” She considers it for a minute. “Of c-course everyone does.”

He tells them to all bring their idols from the earlier game and to follow him.

They do so, walking along a path through the woods. Finally they reach a smaller path. He tells them that they will follow the path to the left and he will meet them at the end of it where they will have their challenge. He walks off and they begin slowly following the path. As they do they come first to a carved icon with a passable rendition of Wesley. Given that a piece of wood sits under the icon, with the word “Wesley” written on it, it is pretty easy to identify the subject.

“Hey. Wesley.” All three girls kind of shrug with not much to say about the man. A clip shows Wesley swimming out to help Oz the first day.

“Oh,” Kendra says as she reaches the next icon, “and Amy.” A clip shows Amy competing in the first immunity challenge. Recognition and clips of Darla and Andrew go by quickly. Next the group comes to the icon for Riley. “Grrr,” Faith says playfully. “He could have been dangerous.”

“Oz,” Tara says sweetly as she points to the idol with the spiky carved hair. “He seemed sweet.” The others nod as we see a shot of Oz running along the beach.

“Richard.” A clip shows Richard talking to Joyce.

“Hard to miss him, isn’t it?” Faith says and they move along.

“Ohh, Mac. He was a tough guy.” A show shows Mac doing his morning pushups. All three girls smile when they reach the Xander idol. “Sweet Xander,” Kendra says as a clip shows the man shooting his slingshot and breaking the bottle in the chocolate challenge.

They reach Joyce’s idol and can see Buffy’s next. “Mother and daughter,” Kendra says, “good competitors.” All three shake their heads and clips show Buffy winning her immunity challenges.

They all stop at Willow’s idol and Kendra and Faith look at Tara. A clip shows the redhead winning the car reward. Tara steps forward and lightly kisses her fingertips before touching them to Willow’s forehead. When she steps back we can see that her eyes are shining wet.

Finally reaching Robin’s idol they stop and smile at the representation. A clip shows Robin running and climbing in the immunity challenge maze. “Man almost made it here,” Faith says. Each woman touches his shining head as she goes by.

They emerge into a clearing and find Jeff waiting for them. He is standing near a small pool of water. In the center of the pool is a carved wooden structure with 6 posts rising up in a circle. He requests their idols and silently walks over and slides them into a spot in the center of the structure so that a center post is created by the three idols. The idols are placed a few feet above the other 6 posts which are quite obviously foot holds.

“Ok, if you’ve watched Survivor before, you can guess how this challenge will work. You will each take your place with your feet on the foot holds and one hand on your Tiki idol. If either foot or your hand loses contact with the structure, you are out. The last one standing wins immunity and a spot in the final two.”

Next we see all three women take their places on the structure. Each woman’s feet are staggered so that they are on different levels by about four inches. “Ok, on my go, place your hand on the idol.” He waits a second and says, “Go!” Faith and Tara reach forward with their right hands while Kendra uses her left. All three women appear relaxed even in this uncomfortable position. The sun is just starting to beat down on them.

Challenge Caption: Time Elapsed – 48 minutes
The shot shows the three women still standing in place. Jeff is standing nearby watching them. “48 minutes you have been standing there. How does it feel?”

“Feels great,” Faith shouts.

“Maybe not that great, mon,” Kendra says, moving her head side to side to stretch her neck.

Jeff laughs uncomfortably at Kendra’s joke.

Challenge Caption: Time Elapsed – 1 hour 32 minutes
“The sun is starting to really beat down, reflecting off the shallow water. Fatigue and sunstroke or sunburn could be a factor soon,” the host announces.

Kendra continues twisting her neck as if she has a kink in it. She takes her free hand and starts rubbing the back of her neck as if to loosen it. “You look like you’re hurting,” Jeff says.

“Cramp,” she says through gritted teeth.

“That’s got to be good news to the other two of you. If she’s cramping, how much longer could she last? Then you just have to beat one other person.”

“You still have to beat the other p….” Faith is cut off as Kendra cries out and falls off the structure.

“And just like that, Kendra is out of it.”

Confessional Caption: Time Elapsed – 2 hours 11 minutes
The shot shows Faith concentrating on her stance and staring at her competitor. Tara in the meantime has her eyes closed and appears to be breathing smoothly through her nearly closed mouth.

“You know I’m stronger than you are,” Faith tells the blonde, “you could jump down any time.”

“And the bargaining begins,” Jeff announces with a smile.

“My labor was 22 h-hours. Without drugs.” Tara breathes smoothly and speaks quietly to her competitor.

“Hmm,” Faith smiles. “No labor pains for me.”

“Tara, ready to go for a while.”

Confessional Caption: Time Elapsed – 2 hours 31 minutes
Kendra sits on the log shading her eyes with her hand. Jeff stands near her watching the competitors. “No one budging,” Jeff announces.

“Tara, do you need this immunity worse than Faith?” It takes Jeff a few seconds to realize that Tara too focused on her challenge to answer his question.

“Faith, do you need this challenge more than Tara or does she need it more than you?”

“Tara needs it more.”

“That’s true,” Kendra tosses in. Jeff looks surprised at the intrusion from the interpreter.

“So Kendra, it sounds like you need Faith to win this immunity?”

Kendra shrugs her shoulders.

Tara still looks composed in her stance while Faith is gritting her teeth. “Give it up and I’ll take you to the final two,” the personal trainer offers through gritted teeth.

“Some deal making going on.”

“No she won’t, Mon. She doesn’t want to sit next to the nice girl who found berries.”

“You don’t know that,” Faith shouts.

“Faith’s legs starting to shake. She’s definitely tired out there.”

Faith is grimacing as her legs shake. With a scream she lets go of the icon and falls off the structure. Jeff shouts that Faith is out and that Tara has won individual immunity and is in the final two. As Faith swats at the water she then smiles at the blonde who has just opened her eyes. Tara looks up to the sky before taking her hand from the icon and stepping down. “Way to go!” Faith yells as she grabs the blonde in a hug.

Both girls walk over to Kendra and hug the interpreter. “Tara, breathing a sigh of relief it seems,” Jeff says. “You have an important decision to make. See you at tribal council.” He immediately turns and walks away from the three girls.

White Hat Camp – Day 38
Confessional Caption – Kendra – Interpreter
“Honestly. I think this was the one outcome that isn’t good for me. If I’d won, I would be in the final two and if Faith won, she’d take me. But Tara. I just don’t know.”

The three girls are eating rice and fish with some gusto. The share a cup of water between them. “This alliance made it through,” Faith says, her chest puffing out as she speaks and she points her fingers back and forth between the three women.

“Until tonight,” Tara says looking down at the ground.

“What are you going to do?”

“I don’t know yet.” She finishes off her last bite and sets down the plate to walk away for a while.

Confessional Caption – Faith – Personal Trainer
“Well, T’s got the game in her hands. If I was her, I’d want me sitting next to her in the final two. I played this game hard and probably pissed everyone off pretty royally. But she’s a good person. She may want Kendra with her because she thinks K’s nicer…. Shit.”

Kendra walks up to Tara as the girl sits on a rock looking out at the ocean. “How you doing, mon?”

Tara shrugs her shoulders. “I wish I d-didn’t have to make this choice tonight.”

“Then you shouldn’t have won immunity.” Kendra’s laugh is infectious and Tara also laughs although she does so more nervously.

“Then I’d be going home tonight and voting tomorrow.”

“Yep.”

“She could beat you on votes,” Kendra says in a rush. “If people think she lied well, she could beat you in the finals.”

Tara shades her eyes with her hand against the setting sun. “Who would you vote for tomorrow night?”

“I’d vote for her cause she outwitted everyone here,” Kendra tells her.

“Thanks for s-saying.”

Tribal Council
Faith, Kendra, and Tara file in and place their torches in the holders. “And now the jury.” Jeff ushers in Mac, Xander, Joyce, Buffy, Willow, and Robin. Like those before him the latest castaway has cleaned up well and now watches the remaining three intently. Willow is smiles widely and even shoots a thumbs-up when she sees that Tara is wearing the immunity necklace.

“Kendra, you were out of the challenge early today.”

“My leg cramped and I just couldn’t stay in it any more.”

“Tara, you seemed to be meditating or concentrating throughout the challenge?”

“I used what I learned in preparing for childbirth to ignore the p-pain.”

“Faith, you weren’t able to do that. Are you worried that Tara will vote you off and you’ll be sitting next to Robin tomorrow night?”

“I think that T knows her best game. She has all along.”

“That sounds like you think taking you to the final two is her best game.”

“I do but so does Kendra, I would imagine. I mean we’ve all been together for 38 days. We know each other pretty well.”

“Ok,” Jeff nearly cuts off the brunette. “Since Faith and Kendra’s votes would cancel each other out, only Tara will vote.” Tara gets up and walks over to make her vote. Jeff carries back the container

“The person voted off will be asked to leave the tribal council area immediately.” He pulls out the vote. “And the fourteenth person voted off Survivor – Ash Island and seventh jury member is… Kendra.”

Tara looks at the ground unable to meet Kendra’s eye but the woman doesn’t seem that upset about Tara’s decision. She stands up and first wraps Faith in a vigorous hug before picking Tara up to mimic the action. Tara returns the hug and Kendra has her torch extinguished.

“Tara and Faith, you two have outwitted, outlasted, and outplayed fourteen other castaways to make it to the final two. One of you will win a million dollars. See you tomorrow night at the last tribal council.”

Tara and Faith both pick up their torches and leave the tribal council. On the way out we see Willow and Tara smile at each other.

Confessional Caption – Kendra – Interpreter
“I played this game as well as I could. Now I have a day to relax before the grilling starts. I guess Tara decided to either win or lose this thing with no middle ground. Good luck girls. It was great to be with both of you.”

White Hat Camp
Tara and Faith make their way quietly back to the camp. “Thanks, T,” Faith says as they reach the fire pit.

For the first time Tara smiles widely. “No problem, F.” She picks up two cups off a log and hands one to Faith. “To the final two.”

Faith clinks her cup against Tara’s and then both women drink.

Confessional Caption – Faith – Personal Trainer
“Man, T had been so quiet all day. Thinking and plotting and everything. So I’m thinking, ‘wow another day of this quiet shit. No way.’ But girlfriend comes back and she’s ready to party.”

Tara puts her hands on her hips and looks at the shelter. “How about a bonfire?”

“Oh yeah,” Faith says picking up a few pieces of wood and throwing them toward the fire. We see the two women begin throwing everything out of the shelter and onto the fire pit. Next we see Faith pulling down the sides of the structure. Tara stands up from where she is cooking fish and walks over to help the brunette with a large piece that is apparently stuck.

In the next shot we see the two women reclining against the logs watching a large fire burn as they eat alternating bites of fish off one plate. Once they have eaten they stand up and continue tossing their current home into the fire. Faith holds up all the clothes she is not currently wearing and shrugs at Tara.

The blonde walks over, takes them, and throws them into the fire. Then she points at the three remaining icons: hers, Kendra’s, and Faith’s. The two women toss Kendra’s into the fire followed by their own. Then they recline for a while longer and watch it burn.

“We made it, Faith,” Tara says as she chews a bit of plantain.

“Damn right, T.”

“What are you going to do ten minutes after tribal council?”

“Shower or sex right?” Faith jokes.

“That’s what I’ve heard.” Tara laughs. “I can’t believe I’ve been away from my baby girl for 39 days.”

“Some day I’d really like to hear the story behind that baby,” Faith says, shaking her head. Both women stand up and look down at the log they were sitting on. It has been one of those surrounding the cooking pit and marking the eating area. Without saying anything they smile at each other, bend down to pick up both ends, and throw it into the fire.

In a night vision shot we see both women sleeping in spots they’ve marked in the sand near the still burning bonfire. A later shot shows them still sleeping as the sun rises and the fire burns to embers.

White Hat Camp – Day 39
We see Tara carving a mark on the trunk of the tree mail tree. “Thirty-nine,” she announces loudly even though only she and Faith are at the camp. Throughout the day we see shots of them eating the remaining food and swimming or bathing in the water. At dusk they pick up their torches, pour water on their fire, and leave their camp for tribal council.

Confessional Caption – Tara – Medical Receptionist
“Well, tonight it will be all over either way. I r-really never thought I’d make it this far. Maybe I made the wrong choice in taking Faith to the final two but I hope not. I’m just hoping that she made enough people mad to make them vote for me.”

Final – Tribal Council
Tara and Faith walk in and take their seats on the logs across from Jeff. “And now we call in the jury.” We see the first six jurors now joined by Kendra. The latest juror is wearing khaki shorts and a tribal-print v-neck blouse with freshly braided and beaded hair. Still thin, she is at least clean and well groomed after 24 hours off out of the game.

Once the jury members have taken their seats Jeff raises his eyebrows at the two finalists. “Neither of you brought anything with you to tribal council, I see.”

“We had a bonfire, J.” Faith nods her head. Tara smiles right along with her.

“Ok, here’s how this works. Each of you can make a short speech to the jury explaining why you deserve to be the Ultimate Survivor. Then the jury will each have an opportunity to ask you a question or address you. Then you can each speak again at the end. After that the jury will vote to determine who will win a million dollars and the title of Ultimate Survivor.”

He says that Tara will go first and the blonde stands to speak.

[blockquote]”First I want to say how much y-you all mean to me. I enjoyed my time in this game and on this island with every one of you. Even those of you who I hardly knew.” She looks at Mac and Xander.

When I was a child, my mother and my grandmother would take me walking in the woods around our house. They taught me about plants and about n-nature. They told me how to figure out what a plant was g-good for even if I had never seen it before, about the unique characteristics of those with healing properties.” [/blockquote]

She looks up at the sky and closes her eyes for a moment.

[blockquote]”M-my grandmother died 8 years ago so she never met my daughter but I think she would be happy with the way my mother and I take Ariel out into the w-woods to teach her about nature.

My role in this game was to use the knowledge, my grandmother g-gave me and share it with everyone. I tried to provide for my tribe and take care of those around me. I might not have o-outwitted or outplayed but I know that I showed skill and knowledge to help those around me and to be a Survivor.”[/blockquote]

Tara stands another moment looking at the jury. Then in a sign of respect she places her hands in prayer position over her heart and bows slightly toward them before retaking her seat. The camera pans over the jury and we can see Willow and Kendra smiling at the blonde. They others look thoughtful but aren’t giving away any reaction.

“Now Faith.”

Faith stands up and steps in front of the jury before taking a few steps back and forth. She begins speaking, taking light strides throughout her statement.

[blockquote]”Every one of you played a great game and it was an honor to be here with you.

I think that this vote really gives you an opportunity to choose what you think makes the Ultimate Survivor. Tara’s right. She was the healing force for our tribe. I was with this girl for 39 days and I’ve never known anyone who knew more about survival than she does.

But that’s not all there is to this game. What’s the slogan? Outwit, outlast, outplay. That’s what I did and that’s why I’m sitting here. I was a leader for our tribe and for this game. MFashnek won Immunity Challenge after Immunity Challenge and I was a leader in that. I won two Immunity Challenges and a Reward Challenge after we merged because I’m a leader. I’m in this contest because of the way I played this game and I think if that’s what you think is important, you’ll write my name down tonight.” [/blockquote]

When Faith finishes speaking she smiles at the jury and walks over to join Tara on the log. Mac and Joyce have a definite set to their jaws while Buffy narrows her eyes at the brunette.

“Ok, first question or statement comes from Xander.”

Xander stands up and walks over to a spot across the fire from the two finalists. “First off, congratulations to both of you.” Faith and Tara both nod their heads. “I’d like to know what each of you thinks was your best day here in terms of your performance in the game.”

Faith answers first. “I’m pretty proud of the way I played the day we merged the tribes. I feel like that day really cemented my role as a leader and my ability to organize people.”

“Y-yesterday. If I hadn’t been able to last longest in the final immunity challenge, I don’t believe I’d b-be sitting here.”

Joyce stands up next. “Faith, Tara, I was in this game with you both for nearly thirty days and never did I feel trusted or valued by either of you. Why should I give either of you a million dollars?”

“We were never in alliance,” Tara answers, “b-but I always felt like we had a connection, Joyce. Our role as mothers gave us something in common and I think it made the two of us the people who took care of our tribe mates. I’m sorry you d-didn’t feel valued but you are very important to me.”

Faith takes her turn. “You’re right. We made alliances very early in MFashnek. It was always me, K, and T and you and Richard. Maybe we didn’t give you a chance but I don’t think you gave me one either. That’s the way the game is played and the fact that you made it onto the jury I think really shows how well you played the game.” She sits down even as Joyce frowns at her answer.

Robin stands up across the fire from the two girls. “Faith, you told me you wanted me in the final two. You told Buffy you and I and she would vote off Willow. You said you never wanted to sit next to Tara in the final two.” He takes a breath as we see the shocked look on Willow’s face. “But you’re still sitting there with Tara. You could have kept me in the final three but you didn’t. You lied throughout this game. Do you really think I want to reward that?”

“I don’t know what you want to reward, big man. You were a serious threat in this game. I needed you as long as I needed you and I needed you gone when you needed to be gone. The way I played this game got me and my girls to the final three and that’s what my commitment was. I might have lied in the game but I never violated my original alliance and that’s why you should reward me.”

Robin shakes his head before retaking his seat. His place across the fire is taken by Mac who folds his arms across his chest.

“I didn’t know either of you very well in this game, but I’ve heard a lot and I’ve learned a lot during these tribal councils. What I want to know is this. For each of you to get here, there must have been a turning point in this game. What was that point and if it hadn’t happened, who do you think would be in the final two instead of you?”

Tara takes a deep breath before speaking. “For me, I think that point was the moment that Faith, Kendra, and I made f-fire. That moment sparked our alliance which brought us here.” She stops and thinks again. “I think that if that hadn’t happened… I would certainly expect Buffy to be up here. She has the smarts, the planning, and the physical gifts to make it in this game. And I would still expect Faith to be here because s-she is that determined.”

“Thanks, T. Actually I’m going to agree with Tara on this. Without Tara and Kendra, my butt would have been out of here before the merge ever happened. No alliance: no Faith in the final two. In that case I would put my money on Willow because she’s the smartest person out here and Robin because he’s the most fit.”

“Thank you both,” Mac says formally before sitting back down.

Willow stands up and smiles warmly first at Faith and then for a longer period at Tara. “Well, I’d rather be sitting there than here but it’s nice to have showered and eaten in the last few days too.” All the jury members laugh and nod their heads. “When you get off the island, you get a pretty fantastic meal. You can have whatever you want so what are you going to eat first?”

“I don’t know if I should answer that, because my answer will make me hungry and we’re not done yet.” Faith waits a beat as everyone laughs at her joke. “Red, if I get to have whatever I want then I’m thinking a big steak, medium rare, twice baked potato, huge salad, steamed asparagus, cherry pie with ice cream, glass of milk, and a six-pack of beer.” She finishes answering the question and then jokingly calls out: “Did catering get that order?”

“Now I’m h-hungry,” Tara says. “My first meal… Eggplant parmesan, artichoke and spinach dip, garlic bread, broccoli, salad, red wine, chocolate pudding, and a snickers bar.” She pauses a second. “Can everyone hear my stomach rumbling?”

“I can,” Faith jokes.

Buffy stands up next and folds her arms across her chest. “Both of you are liars. Faith, you lied to everyone here. You ruled this game and decided who would stay and who would go. You lied to keep yourself and your alliance on top. You basically got to be where you are because Tara picked you because you are so abominable that she wanted you next to her rather than Kendra.”

She takes a deep breath before turning to face Tara more directly. “But I think that you’re worse, Tara.” Tara looks puzzled at Buffy’s statement. “I had a friend in this game, an alliance member.” Everyone glances at Willow. “But you used her. You told her lies about who you were and what she meant to you. You sold yourself and you sold her and that makes you pretty disgusting in my book.” Tara is shaking her head and mouthing “no” but she isn’t given an opportunity to respond by Buffy who angrily turns on her heel and sits back down. A shot of Willow shows her mouth clenched, her fists balled at her sides.

Jeff says to try to lighten the mood. “The last question will come from the last person out of the game.”

Kendra stands up and smiles at both her alliance members. “I am so proud of both of you for being here. The only thing that would make me prouder would be to be sitting there myself.” She waits for the inevitable laughter. “I might not know every move you made, every thing you said to everyone here, but I know your game. So here’s my question: I want each of you to tell us why the other should win the million dollars.”

“You p-probably should vote for Faith,” Tara says. “She outplayed me in this game. She outplayed everyone. Even though I fed our tribe, protected people from sunburn, from bug bites, healed injuries, she led us to victory over and over. More than that, s-she lied to the people who n-needed lied to and kept Kendra and I from that role.”

“I agree with everything she said,” Faith jokes and is met by laughter. “Seriously, T, here is a hell of a Survivor. She’s like living on an island with Grizzly Adams. She knows plants, she knows people, and damn if she doesn’t know how to build fire like no one I’ve ever met. Did she lie? I don’t know. If she did, so what. It got her here and that’s what she is playing for. It’s what we’re all playing for.”

“Now each of you has a minute to readdress the jury before they vote. “Faith you’ll go first.”

[blockquote]”You’ve heard it before and there’s not much reason to repeat myself. You know my game. I came here a leader and I led. That’s what leaders do. I lied if I needed to and that’s why I’m sitting here. The title of Ultimate Survivor is for the person who Outwits, Outlasts, Outplays! That’s me. Outwit, Outlast, Outplay.”[/blockquote]

As the camera pans the jury we can see a few members nodding their heads.

[blockquote]”Faith and I p-played two very different games. She was the leader, the schemer. I was the caretaker for my tribe. I came here to see how far I c-could go and found myself still here after 39 days. I didn’t lie and I didn’t cheat to get here. I made an a-alliance and I stuck to it.” She smiles at Willow who smiles back. “While I was here I made good friends, people I really care about. I never once lied about my feelings for anyone here.” She looks Willow in the eye and emphasizes every word. “I meant every word I said. Every thing I did.” [/blockquote] Although the jury seems a little surprised that Tara’s speech is over so soon, she takes her seat.

“Lots of questions and lots of answers,” Jeff smiles. “Now the jury will vote. Remember that tonight you are voting for the person you want to win. This is the one time the competitors want to see their name written down. Time to vote.”

In turn each jury member gets up and votes. Xander votes first, followed by Joyce who holds up her vote for the camera. On the ballot, she has written Tara’s name.

Vote Confessional
“Tara, you are right you took care of everyone on this tribe.”

Mac, Willow, and Buffy vote. Next Robin holds up his vote showing Faith’s name.

Vote Confessional
“You are right. You were a leader in this game. You lied to everyone here to get what you wanted and that got you where you are now. You’ll have to live with it but if everyone thinks like me, at least you’ll have a million dollars to keep you company.”

Finally, Kendra votes. When she has returned, Jeff walks over and gets the bucket with the votes and returns with it. He addresses Tara and Faith. “I’m sure you’d both like to hear these votes but we’ll open them in New York. See you there.”

He picks up the votes and steps through the jungle until he reaches the beach. There he steps onto a boat. The boat appears to sail away from the island until it lands at a marina.

DIBS! ...*bounces off to read the update* :lol

Okay, I'm back now. That was a great update! Tara using birthing techniques to win the challenge was brilliant! I knew as soon as she said "22 hour labor without drugs" that she'd win immunity. I would have been the woman on the other side of the curtain screaming "GIMME THE FUCKING NARCOTICS!"

I liked the speeches. They were true to character without being forced. I can understand why Buffy is miffed at Tara and for that I think she probably voted for Faith, but I know that Joyce and Willow both voted for Tara (who else would our little redhead vote for?) and I have no clue about the other three, so in my mind it's a total toss-up. But at least Ariel benefits either way!

Can't wait for the next installment. :clap

Yes a cliffhanger indeed. But I think we all know, that right at this point there had to be one.

I'm the most curious how Buffy and Kendra voted. It must be very diificult for Kendra, because she likes Faith and Tara both almost equally. The three of them where the most steady team during the whole game. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes...

Kendras question was really good. But I wished Buffy had given Tara the choice to respond to her statement. I'ts a good thing that Tara got a chance to say something in her final statement, although I'm pretty sure Willow knows that Tara meant everything she said to her.

Buffy is a really bad looser here. After all it's a game. She lost, so what. The alliance T/K/F was to strong.

I liked the last evening of Tara and Faith. They really got close, although they are so immensely different. But we know that already.
I'm curious what Ariel will say.

Oh and btw I think the update is early, but I don't care *ggg*

When will we have the next update? Weekend?

Okay the slacker is finally speaking up. I've been feedbacking very little lately, and haven't written anything in a while either! (Thus making me a slacker) But after reading the birthday party scene, I knew Tara and Faith would be the two up for the big bucks. And I could go for either, because I figure either way Ariel will have a nice college fund set up before too long. :-D

And I'll leave it at that, other than the usual :clap :applause and I :bow to you, oh Elvis, oh Great One, we are but humble creatures, our lives made brighter by your mere presence.

OOh what a place to end it.

Before I get into discussing the update there's something I need to get off my chest :fit2 at Buffy's comments. I had assumed that the falling out between her and Willow was due to Willow voting her off, but I guess it was actually Buffy's comments.

This update was really interesting. It was good reading all the speeches about why they should be voted for.

I guess Willow just asked the question about food because she knew who she's voting for. Though I think a better question would have been, "Faith, Tara can give me many multiple orgasms, so why should I vote for you?"

It's very exciting since they did both play different games, so who wins will be decided by which sort of gameplay the jury think best characterises the point of the show. Is it the island survival or the scheming? I can't decide who I think's going to win :seesaw

Is it time for the next update yet?

It’s really hard not to snark on Jeff and his style and stupid questions and recapping the count of 2 votes, etc.

:blush I can just imagine you snarking on Just Peachy and the stupid tribes and the plotting and the challenges.

If you're thinking Wednesday schedule you're right on time (even though it's 2am Thursday for me). Two intial thoughts - brilliant long update, I luuuurve the lengthy update; second, wah!! cliffhanger! The wait till the next update is gonna be nail-biting. I want a Doctor Who Time Machine, NOW!

The IC was as expected, poor Kendra getting cramps at the most inopportune moment is a tough break. I think that as soon as she fell into the water she figured that was it, she was at risk. I'm glad Tara won the IC, cos the way she approached it was perfect. She countered Faith's taunts (what answer do you have to “My labor was 22 h-hours. Without drugs.” ?), concentrating to the point of ignoring Jeff and Kendra - she totally deserved it.

Whether bringing Faith to F2 was a smart move, at this point both it's a toss-up, she probably made the decision with her heart and I can go with that. I'm also very happy to see that K had no hard feelings, one of the most gratifying arcs in this series has been the F/K/T alliance and how they held true to their Day 2 promise, also how they've never presented another face to the other survivors.

Love the interactions between the 3 girls. The recurring reference to 37 days was so cute. The bonfire that Faith and Tara made, was full of symbolism - it was all or nothing at that point.

Tribal council. Their speeches were in character, Tara with her usual soft touch and Faith's no nonsense "I'm tuff" approach. Good comments from all juries, except I thought Buffy was being unfair, she's obviously not over the disappointment yet, what a sore loser :smash I remember Willow's phone call to her in real time, hopefully they were able to patch things up.

I did think Willow's question was a bit lame. But then, it's abundantly clear who she is voting for, so why make things hard for two people she genuinely likes (or in love with). Naughty watson did think that she and Tara were communicating telepathetically and Tara was saying "You know what I want to eat" -- I'm insatiable :devil.

I've gone on enough. Lots of great quotes, tension, cliffhanger. I just want to say this .... please please please can the next update be here already :pray.

Hi Debra - I've been tenterhooks all week waiting for this update. I've gotta say you didn't disappoint! I'd sorta guessed that Tara & Faith would be the final two (what's Ariel gonna say about that situation!)

Kendra has been very gracious as the loser. I think that she is happy that part of her alliance has got through to the end.

What a bitch Buffy is - obviously a very bad loser. I hope Willow punches her lights out. Maybe that's why Willow had to make the phonecall to her.

Any clues as to when the next update will be - my poor old heart can't take the strain!

I was so excited to read this update. I was on the edge of my seat. You've done a wonderful job with this story. You've blended elements of Survivor and BTVS so well. I just totally adore this story and I am going to be sad to see it end. I will be eagerly awaiting the next update.

Wow. I'm all excited now. Nervously taps foot.

This was a nice long update that had me glue to my monitor the entire time. Oh, I hope Tara wins. I think she will win because Faith pissed off a lot of people. Some of her answers were so rough that I think that she lost a few potential votes.

Love the interaction between Willow and Tara. So cute. And grrrrr at Buffy's comments. I bet you Willow lit in to her afterwards and that's why she needed to call and apologize to Buffy... lol. I know I would have if I was Willow.

I cannot wait until the next update. Continues to nervously tap foot and hope that Tara wins.

I have been CLIFFHUNG! Er, that sounds dirty...

So sad that Buffy thinks that Tara is just using Willow to win the cash. I don't really feel like I got to know Buffy that well in this story, and she feels like a different character to me than the Buffy from BtVS. I mean, you never know who a person is going to be under pressure, hungry, and when a million dollars is at stake, and when their entire existence is not defined by having to fight the evil undead, but I'm sad that she said those things and they are now estranged.

So are you using the random number generator for every single vote-off? I remember reading in your early intro to the story that you were going to use the random number generator except for plot-crucial people. Wondering if getting Tara to the final two was plot-crucial or if it has been in the hands of the Goddess all along. :)

GREAT update and so looking forward to the next one and more SMOOCHIES! :wtkiss

The 'it's day 37' stuff was funny. Good to see that even with the end near, T/F/K were still on good terms.

I was so nervous during the last tribal council, which I know is silly, because we have to wait for the reunion show for the results, anyway.

Great update, can't wait for more.

After reading the update the following conversation was had by my girlfriend and I:

Me: *while pulling out hair* I don't know...I just...I don't know!!!! Who's going to win? I...I think...I don't know!!! I wouldn't vote for Faith but that's just because I don't think that lying deserves a reward. That's not out-witting, that's being diecietful!
GF: I know. It could go either way. Because Tara winning would be predictable, but maybe she's going to do the unpredictable just to throw everything off.
Me: But isn't that predicatable?
GF: Yeah, I know. But you can just go in circles.
Me: Dammit!
GF: Can we vote? Cause I'd vote Tara.
Me: So would the rest of this place. Hello, Willow and Tara fan-board.

~~~~
In conclusion....NO CLUE and I just...I don't...I don't...dah!
Oh...but I have another question, who is Mac? Is Mac from Buffy and I just don't remember him or is he some random guy? Maybe he's someone from the initiative or something. I don't know. Am I supposed to know who he is? Cause, I know everyone else...it's just Mac.
Oh man. That wasn't a cliffhanger. That was more than a cliffhanger. That was like a Niagra Falls-hanger or something rediculous like that. And to think, I was so engrossed in reading this update and I was all like, "Yay! I get to know who wins at the end!" and I made myself late to get coffee with my girlfriend (not that late, but it's still kinda bad :-D ), and then I don't even get to know who wins. I probably should have known that I wouldn't get to know who wins at the end of this update, but still.
So now that I said all that, I can get with the actual feedback (commonly known as praise).
Tara steps forward and lightly kisses her fingertips before touching them to Willow’s forehead. When she steps back we can see that her eyes are shining wet.
Aw, that was such a sweet moment. I can imagine that happening so vividly and it makes me sad for Tara but also just happy for both of them. Okay, I think i've maxed out on my sap for the day.
You sold yourself and you sold her and that makes you pretty disgusting in my book.” Tara is shaking her head and mouthing “no” but she isn’t given an opportunity to respond by Buffy who angrily turns on her heel and sits back down.
Damn, Buffy! That girl is MAD. I think she definately needs to GET OVER IT! She didn't win, is that too much to handle. Just because she lied to everyone and that made Willow stop trusting her doesn't mean that she needs to get all mad at Tara. She has some nerve calling everyone else liars.
"I want each of you to tell us why the other should win the million dollars.”
I don't know if anyone on Survivor has ever asked this question (which is partly because I haven't really ever watched Surviver since the first season), but it is a great one.
Yay! :applause I can't wait for the next update!
So Debra,
I was all prepared to hear that Faith and Kendra were in the final two because even though its a W/T board, I kind of thought that you wouldn't let Tara in the Final Two especially with Faith.
So good and I love how Tara's meditations and rituals have been included into the story. I am anxiously awaiting the finale. (Do we get a reaction chapter next or is it the winner announcement, I don't remember).
Hope all is well in your world and that there is new fun updates on the way (even though I know that wont happen until next week), but I can hope for Sun.
I am making an official prediction of Faith as the winner.
Debra, you naughty, naughty woman! You are down right evil for leaving us with…so long and thanks for all the fish! (Assuming you are a Douglas Adams fan, or might have been, or perhaps one day think you might think about thinking you understand what I’m saying here.) Wait, am I being cryptic…uh, no. That was positively E-V-I-L. You know that lesson…leave your readers wanting more---please ignore it. Definitely ignore it! Did I mention you are a first class brat for having us sit on the edge of our seats (and I was, btw, nose just inches from the computer screen—thank God it’s 2 am and not 2 pm, because I could never explain my somewhat more than normally unusual behaviour to anyone who might have seen me reading this update.) Okay…now, still trying to get over the whole—you are sooo e’ffing evil for that little stunt. Why, I could be dead in a week (unlikely, but still within the realm of possibility) and I might never know the outcome of this game! Perhaps that is the reward (or conversely punishment) in the afterworld: to remember the cliffhanger and be given grace to know the outcome??? I hope so…
Okay, enough with the silliness…You definitely stood out with this update. From the opening, you turned the tension dial to high and kept it there. I loved the interactions between F/T/K, you stay absolutely true to the game each played. I understand you used a random number generator to determine the outcome of certain events, then plotted the characters around the outcome, and did so in a convincing manner. I kept forgetting that a “machine” determined the finish. On the other hand, one must remember the there’s a person behind that number crunching, a very intelligent, devious person who loves her readers to death, a person who might just say…okay, this is what the number crunching tells us—maybe I’ll just run that scenario again in a random Deus ex Machina way??? Yes, I am being randomly silly with this, but the thought has crossed my mind on occasion -lol.
I think somewhere along the line I pegged the F2, but the elimination order was off. But then again, computers aren’t necessarily as disposed as humans in bowing to our will -lol. I didn’t expect Robin to have outlasted Willow. I’m glad the big showdown is between T and F. For some reason, it just creates more tension. Perhaps, because each woman is, in her own very different way, such a unique character, they really are polar opposites in every aspect. Kendra always seemed to ‘float’ along in the game, but there was always intensity with F and T. As for who’s going to win…flip a coin, the jury appears somewhat split. You gave a lot away with the questions and comments from the jury members, but not quite enough to completely peg the winner. By the ‘rules’ of the game, as F continually pointed out, she should win. However, Tara played the best game and I think she will ultimately ‘outwit’ F. Tara’s was a game of subtly, micro-moves, positioning; she was the leader…she made fire. Faith’s fatal flaw (just to continue the mini-Greek theme) is hubris—she believes she should win because she played a ‘traditional’ Survivor game, and is proud of it. Dangerous assumption to have made, in my mind; it’s easy to see this wasn’t a ‘traditional’ bunch of people left for the jury (well, except maybe Xander – I wonder who on the jury will tell him who to vote for). So…my vote goes to Tara, for having Outlasted, Outwitted, Outplayed her opponents. Twenty-two hour labour??? Eeeps! For that alone she deserves the million-LOL.
Okay, do we really have to wait until next week??? Bats eyes, pleadingly, in that rather pathetic pretty-please kinda way???? Thank you so much for giving us this amazing tale. And now, I wait with bated breath…for the finale to this most delightful and engaging story.
Cheers!!
Re: Survivor - Ash Island
Argh :fit2 And I thought normal five-minute ad breaks were bad... :wink
There's plenty to think about with regards to Willow and Tara's relationship, and the phone call we heard about Willow making to Buffy (did they reconcile? Will Buf apologise to Tara on national TV?), but really, the only question right now is Who Will Win?
It surprised me that Tara brought Faith rather than Kendra into the final round, but from the comments from various jury members (Buffy's misguided outrage notwithstanding) and Faith's own speech in defence of her 'lying', I may be looking at the game differently to everyone else. The way I see it, Faith did nothing wrong. Yes she lied, but it's a lying game, and I don't see that being any different to playing a feint in chess - you do your darndest to mak your opponent believe that that is the real threat, so they never see the other one coming, and you win. Now if some situation had arisen where the scheming should've been suspended out of common decency - I can't think of such a situation off the top of my head, but just suppose, some emergency on the island, I don't know - then you could get peeved at someone for still lying, but so long as the game was going I don't think Faith did anything dishonorable, and her efficiency at manipulating her opponents just counts as another plus for her, alongside her leadership of her alliance and her physical prowess. If I'd been in Tara's place I'd definitely have taken Kendra into the final vote, and counted on 39 days of solid caregiving and wilderness-survival brilliance to carry the vote against Kendra's relative anonymity. But as I say I may be underestimating the jury's disapproval of Faith's tactics, so perhaps I'd be wrong there.
I think we can lock in at least five of the votes. We know Joyce voted for Tara and Robin for Faith. I think we can reasonably add Willow's vote to Tara's tally :D Kendra said she'd vote for Faith, and there's no reason I can see to suppose she wasn't being honest there.
Buffy got her panties all in a twist (bad Buffy!) and probably voted for Faith. She really took it all too seriously, and I think that contributed to her dislike for Faith - Buf's attitude to lying-in-the-game is the diametric opposite of mine. But her disdain for Tara, if thoroughly uncalled for, is at least understandable - she believes that Tara doesn't care about Willow, and strung her along (and presumably she believes, continues to do so) purely to get herself into the final two, and secure Willow's vote. From Buffy's point of view (and admittedly she's probably set in her dislike and ignoring evidence to the contrary) that is a pretty low thing to do, and that's a line I think the lying-in-the-game shouldn't cross, just out of common decency. Of course we know Tara did nothing of the sort, and if Buffy would open her eyes a bit she'd probably have realised that too, but she took a dim view of Tara from the moment 'her' Willow got seduced away from her.
So two for Tara, three for Faith, and it all comes down to which way Xander and Mac will vote. If either of them vote for Faith, she's got the prize - if both of them favour Tara, she snatches an unlikely but welcome victory. It would be nice to see Tara's supportive style of 'survival' rewarded, seeing as Faith's from-the-front leadership tends to get all the glory anyway.
I made a highly-scientific dice roll, and it came up Faith. But that's okay, as Willow and Tara got each other, and while $1 million may buy a really nice bed, it doesn't buy someone to snuggle with in it.
(Well, it could, but it wouldn't be Willow and Tara's brand of love-snuggles, which is the point.)
Ok, I am gonna freakin cry!
When did Buffy become such a BITCH?? I would hope that SOMEONE gives her quite a piece of their mind(s) at the live tribal...
Sharing Joyce and Robin's vote was surprising....I would have thought Willow's vote would have been a done deal...at least I would HOPE it is considering she didn't even ask a real question at the final tribal councel. I figured that was Willow's way of not trying to cause any problems and still let Faith know....she's Tara's girl.
Well, that was quite a rush...I am dying to read the live final. Hmm, the vote is questionable in my book....ok, Will's vote is in....Mac I would say would go Faith...Buffy would go with Faith...i think...hmmm, Xander? Too sweet...never go with Faith...I think the deciding vote goes down to Kendra! Ouch...Tara thought it sucked decided which one didn't have a chance at a Million....now how to decide which one gets a million? Ooooo, the freakin drama is EVERYWHERE.
Please post the reunion soon. Loving every minute of this and can't wait till its completed so I can go back and reread the whole thing together again!
Love will find a way.
Man, after forgetting what my password to log in here was...
Great update! Do we get to have a live update next? Want to see little Ariel's reaction to her mommy being in the final two. Annnnd all that. Sorry I didnt leave feedback earlier for the last update.
Looking forward to the next! Doesnt mean that once survivor is over, that the rest of the story has to stop does it? :P We could always see the stuff happening of the little family. :D
Alright, I'm gone.
As much as I'd like Tara to win...I still think Faith has it. I believe it is down to Kendra's vote. I could really see her voting for faith because tara voted her off. On the other hand? Kendra knew it was going to happen and didnt seem upset. So...it really could go either way.
We'll see next week!
That was a great immunity challenge. I immediately thought it was perfect for Tara but I’m not taking anything for granted so there was still breath holding involved until Faith finally collapsed. Hooray!!!! Kendra seemed pretty confident that Faith would have taken her to the final two. She knows Tara is a stronger competitor and more likely to win up against Faith in the final two. Sad to see her go but.. not really. I love Faith. She played a great game and all but if I was on the council, I’d vote for the person mostly likely to help everyone stranded on a remote island survive. And that person is clearly Tara. Skills in fire starting, healing, nature and really caring about other people will go a lot further than being a proficient schemer with fine looking abs! Anyway, you did a fine job of making me not like Buffy much. Robin attacking Faith and then voting for her afterwards was a surprise. Exactly why I’m not taking anything for granted! How proud is Ariel going to be when she finds outs her mommy's preperation for her birth (22 hours!!) is what gave Tara the strength and skill needed to win immunity and make it into the final two? :heart Awesome! Now the nail biting begins.. Great update!!
Obviously it's been awhile since I actually watched Survivor, or I would have remembered that the final challenge is usually an endurance test, and would have realized that Tara stood a really good chance of winning. As it was, I was hopping up and down when it happened, and Tara's “My labor was 22 h-hours. Without drugs.” had me throwing my arms up and yelling "Woohoo!" at the monitor like a crazy person (luckily only my wife was nearby, and she already knows I'm nuts :-D ).
I know I'm not alone in saying I want to kick Buffy's ass back to the island. Not only is she completely wrong about Tara, but who the hell does she think she is, bitching about secrets and lies? Those grapes are damn sour, and it reminded me of Susan from Survivor 1...you lost! Get over it!!! I think the fact that Tara chose the much tougher Faith over Kendra to go head to head with says it all about Tara...she wants to earn the win, and please please please make her win! :pray You rock, Debra!
Hey there! Glad everyone is fine.
Wow, this update had me thinking for a couple of days.
I want Tara to win, of course, but after Buffy's comments I don't know. Faith may end up with more votes. Let's try to count, Tara has Joyce & Willow, Faith has Robin & looks like Buffy, Kendra said that she'd vote for Faith too. Now, Mac & Xander I really have no clue. They weren't really close to either girl. Mac didn't seem amused by Faith's speech, and as for Xander we didn't get so much of his reactions.
Faith is right she was a leader and lied to keep her alliance on top, but right now she’s sitting there because Tara chose her. So a little modesty wouldn’t hurt.
I'm angry with Buffy, but I think understand her, she believes Tara played and lied to Willow to get her vote and was the reason the B/W alliance fell down. On top of that Tara voted off Willow. Yes, very bad, but Buffy doesn't really know what was happening behind the cameras. She was impulsive and spoke out of hurt and showed she's a BAD LOSER. Some time ago Willow said she had to call Buffy to make amends, but after this Buffy should be the one apologizing.
I guess we won't get a present time update. To be honest I hope not because can't wait to find out who's the winner.
Take care.
debra, this update was so good, so so good i don't have the adjectives or the superlatives to describe it. maybe i should head over to thesaurus.com, or hey, how bout some orwell? ~it was doubleplus good!
so nice to see the easy camaraderie among the final three on "day 37". liked how you used the idols as a sort of recap of the competition, it's easy to forget someone like amy was ever there. i was a little worried before hand about tara's chances in a physical challenge with these two, but endurance is another thing entirely.
every moment, every word of the final tribal council was spot on. i'm not all that suprised by buffy's speech, lots of sour grapes there, and it seems to be true to survivor, from what little i've seen of it ( and that was your fault btw) that there's going to be someone who isn't going to ask a question, but would rather spew some venom. i am a little suprised that if buffy and willow have been in the same sequesterville for a few days now that they might've cleared some of this up already, but looks like that didn't happen. i liked how willow's question was pretty much a non question, since her vote it already spoken for, why bother?
it really took this final council for me to have an opinion on who i want to win, but tara convinced me. faith's vote for me-i'm the best liar attitude, i just can't bring myself to back that. tara proved you can get to the final by being a good person, rather than trying to be the best worst person, if that makes any sense, and it would be nice to see that rewarded.
this is so like a supreme court vote, the hard right and the hard left are all decided, and now it's like waiting to see what o'connor's gonna do. is it too much to hope for that you'll be bitten by the early post bug again? but then that just means this will end sooner, so nevermind. damn i'm going to miss this fic, but thanx for the great ride debra!~ mary
May all beings have peace. May all beings be free
Naeryn – Lol! You beat Carleen or Watson. Glad you liked the update. I can tell you from being there that a long labor is no walk in the park. Seems that your logic on the votes mirrors that of other readers and everyone is thinking “toss-up.” Works for me and my evil cliffhangerness! Buh wah wah hah! Thanks.
Insanity – I agree about the cliffhanger. I think that for Kendra it would be a very hard decision. We can assume that her answer to Tara that she would vote for Faith is partially true and partially self-motivated: maybe Tara would keep her, knowing that she’s automatically forfeiting a vote by putting her on the jury, not that it worked.
What’s strange to me is that on the Survivor reunion show, whenever there is a 4-3 vote (which everyone is predicting), Jeff always picks one person and acts like their vote was the swing. As if all 4 of them weren’t potential swings!
But I wished Buffy had given Tara the choice to respond to her statement.
This is something that frequently happens at the TC and I don’t like it very much. One person stands up and just makes some vindictive speech telling the others that they are scum of the world, then sits down thinking that they look very pious. I can’t say for sure that Willow knew that Tara really cared for her at that point but she certainly believed it.
Glad you liked the F/T private time. I always really like that part of the show. Thanks a lot.
wiccanbotanist – Don’t worry about feedbacking. I love the feedback but I also like knowing that you’re reading. Thanks for delurking (is deslacking a word?). Glad you got the F2 from the birthday party. I agree about the college for Ariel (assuming Kent & Faith stay together).
And I'll leave it at that, other than the usual and I to you, oh Elvis, oh Great One, we are but humble creatures, our lives made brighter by your mere presence.
Wow and wow. Namaste.
Justin
I need to get off my chest at Buffy's comments. I had assumed that the falling out between her and Willow was due to Willow voting her off, but I guess it was actually Buffy's comments.
I would say that Willow’s motivation for seeking redemption is the wrong she feels she did Buffy in breaking their alliance. Any motivation that Buffy has or may have is separate from that and would be based on her own actions/words.
I agree that Willow’s question is pretty lame but as you said, she knows who she will be voting for so why ask a real question? I like your thoughts though. Thanks so much.
Watson -
I can just imagine you snarking on Just Peachy and the stupid tribes and the plotting and the challenges.
I’m telling you, the TWOP is contagious. I started snarking so bad during Survivor this season that Rachel kept having to tell me to shut up.
it's 2am Thursday for me)
Jesus woman! Don’t you sleep?
Ooohhh a time machine. Yeah, I think that during the IC, they were just more of themselves: Tara = calm and peaceful, Faith = plotting and dealmaking.
I agree that Tara’s decision to bring Faith is a toss-up. I believe that she’s going with the strategy of bringing someone who she believes the jury will vote against rather than bringing Kendra who is a wildcard. Glad you liked the F/K/T and the bonfire. I love that imagery, particularly since they did the bonfire the night before and then spent the day without anything.
[quote[ I thought Buffy was being unfair, she's obviously not over the disappointment yet, what a sore loser I remember Willow's phone call to her in real time, hopefully they were able to patch things up. [/quote]Of course but think back on some of the speeches we’ve seen over the years. At least in this case, Buffy had a genuine belief that her friend was being taken advantage of.
Thank you so much (always!!!).
caz – I’m assuming tenterhooks is a bad thing? Never heard that word before. Many people had guessed F/T F2 and more and more guesses toward the end, certainly. I think that Kendra is of course disappointed but she also knows that her alliance kicked butt.
I agree that Buffy is being out of line but she’s nothing if not a passionate friend, misguided perhaps, but passionate. Not sure about the next update. Definitely by next Wednesday. Thanks.
Irene73 – The holiday was good. I did a lot of working over the weekend but we had fun too. Sorry about the painkillers. Everything ok?
Okay...gotta say this: And the award for best cliffhanger ever written goes to...
Thanks but I don’t even consider it my best cliffhanger ever. I consider that to be in Turned.
Sorry about the C-section. Rachel was in labor 28 hours but managed to avoid the C-section. I’m kind of surprised that the repetition of the day went over so well but I’m glad it did. Lol about calling your folks. I used to send my mom a card every year saying “Thanks!”
Thanks for quoting the Oz & Willow icon moments. I agree that it is absolutely obvious from this moment how much Tara cares for Willow. Lol about giving Tara the million because she shows respect.
This leads me to believe that Willow and Buffy haven't really communicated while being sequestered. Is Buffy worried that Tara will never speak to Willow again?
On the contrary. I’m quite sure that they have talked extensively. And that Willow has told Buffy ad nauseum how wonderful Tara is, how beautiful, how perfect. And the more Buffy hears the more she thinks that Willow is totally a fool and that Tara is reprehensible.
One of the things I love about Survivor is that it’s such a dynamic game. You can align yourself with people and then it changes every day. You may last the whole game or leave day 3 and it all just depends on a million things.
The one thing that gets to me about Survivor or any other reality show, is how the competitors seem to use the phrase "This isn't real life" as an escape goat to act in a particular way.
Well on one hand, I agree with you but on the other, we don’t think of all games that way. I mean if I play Risk no one tells me that I’m a megalomaniac and want to take over the world. I think that it is possible to believe that reality show games are outside the purview of “real life.”
Of course I say: good guess!
littlecrazy80 – Thanks. Lol.
cperrins78 – Cool. I’m glad you love it so much and that you like the combination. Thanks.
Willow~Rosenberg – Yay for excited. I didn’t notice the length until after I posted it. It was just a matter of how much there was to do in that hour of TV. Good guess.
Thanks.
SallyMcFine
I have been CLIFFHUNG! Er, that sounds dirty...
My favorite line of the day!
I don't really feel like I got to know Buffy that well in this story, and she feels like a different character to me than the Buffy from BtVS.
I can see that and I’ll admit that Buffy doesn’t really come out that great in my stories. I love her but I also think that’s she’s amazingly self-centered and angsty. I prefer pretty much every other character on BtVS to her. So to me, I think this Buffy is just as self-centered and bossy as the one on BtVS. That said, I don’t think that I captured her passion or integrity or faithfulness.
So are you using the random number generator for every single vote-off? I remember reading in your early intro to the story that you were going to use the random number generator except for plot-crucial people. Wondering if getting Tara to the final two was plot-crucial or if it has been in the hands of the Goddess all along.
See FAQ.
Thanks.
the hero factor – Glad you liked the day 37. Lol about being nervous.
AnirtakEnigma – Love the conversation!
Oh...but I have another question, who is Mac?
He’s the colonel at the Initiative after Walsh is killed.
watersong84 – Ooo. Niagra Falls. Great now I need to go to the bathroom. Tee hee. It’s late here and I’m feeling silly. Sorry you were late and tell the girlfriend I said sorry. Next update for the winner. Glad you liked the Willow’s icon moment.
Yeah, Buffy is speaking from her heart but her heart is misinformed. She made a big mistake here. I’m glad you liked Kendra’s question. I don’t think I’ve seen exactly it before but something like it. But I also think that it is a little of a trick question like the interview question: what are your three weaknesses and you’re supposed to say three things that are strengths like “I’m a perfectionist” and “I work too hard” or junk like that. Notice that both F & T did that in their answers.
Thanks.
cooper – I’m assuming that you’re not disappointed to see Tara in the F2, just surprised. I always think that Tara’s meditations and rituals are something that would be inherent to her being in any universe. Next chapter is finale show. Thanks so much. Good guess.
Back to the world Patches – [quote[(Assuming you are a Douglas Adams fan, or might have been, or perhaps one day think you might think about thinking you understand what I’m saying here.)[/quote]I tried to read that book once and found it very boring. Waited a few years, found it boring. Few more years, boring again. Gave it up. But I think I get that you’re saying I’m evil? Cool. I’ll take that as a compliment.
Why, I could be dead in a week (unlikely, but still within the realm of possibility) and I might never know the outcome of this game!
I’ll tell you what: if you feel death is imminent, send me a PM and I’ll send you the next update. :evil
Yay for tension! Re: random number generation, see the FAQ.
Points to you for the F2 prediction even even if you missed the elimination. I agree that the T/F showdown is a high level of tension. I’m glad you can’t peg the winner. I you could, I didn’t do this right.
Timing of the next update: depends on how quickly I write the last update. Perhaps this weekend, definitely by next Wednesday. Thanks so much.
Artemis – Lol! Yep, definitely a longer break than the TV ones.
Interesting that you don’t see Faith as doing anything wrong. I think that whether she wins depends on how many people agree with you. I think that Tara is counting on at least 4 people (3 in addition to Willow) feeling that she did many things wrong. If Tara loses she made a mistake in taking Tara and if she wins, she made a good decision so it’s hard to second-guess. On second thought, second-guess away!
I agree with you about Willow, Joyce, Kendra, & Robin’s votes but Buffy’s is still a toss-up.
But her disdain for Tara, if thoroughly uncalled for, is at least understandable - she believes that Tara doesn't care about Willow, and strung her along (and presumably she believes, continues to do so) purely to get herself into the final two, and secure Willow's vote. From Buffy's point of view (and admittedly she's probably set in her dislike and ignoring evidence to the contrary) that is a pretty low thing to do, and that's a line
Exactly! She thinks her friend got badly used.
Good guesses and thoughts.
jessan15 – See many comments above re: Buffy. Yes, I feel fine saying that Willow voted for Tara to win. Good thoughts about the vote. Thanks so much.
can't wait till its completed so I can go back and reread the whole thing together again!
Beat the rush: read it now!
Always410 – Um… you don’t have to have a password to read, just to comment. But thanks for commenting. Next update is the reunion special. Then a real life one. Yes, the story will be over in three updates: Finale, Real Life after the show, Publicity show the next day. Thanks a lot and good guesses.
Kajun – Thanks. The final IC is always something like that where they just have to hold on or stand still or balance for a long time. I agree with Kendra that Faith would have taken her to the F2. Glad you love Faith. Me too! Thanks for everything.
tarawhipped – Not sure if you and Car (and Mary?) saw my note earlier this week. Rachel heard on NPR that Gay Square dancing is big in Chicago? I’m kind of worried about y’all.
Glad to hear my story inspired crazy-person acting. That’s really cool. I think everyone is pretty pissed at Buffy so you can stand in line to slap her. Yes, exactly Susan from S1. Thanks.
dragonfly – Glad it made you think. Seems like everyone is counting either T2/F3 or T2/F2. I’d agree with T2/F>1 at least. Good point about how Faith got there and showing some modesty.
Next update is the Finale. Thanks.
meretricious – Thanks. Lol: doubleplus good! I agree about how good it is to see K/F/T so friendly down to the end of this game. They are certainly close friends at this point.
liked how you used the idols as a sort of recap of the competition, it's easy to forget someone like amy was ever there.
I must admit that I generally find that to be the most lame part of the Survivor Finale show but I liked this one. Of course, I wrote it so that shows a little about my ego I guess.
Glad you liked the final TC. I must admit that on the real show, most people generally make longer speeches before their questions. Buffy’s part was pretty much typical for what the jury generally does.
i am a little suprised that if buffy and willow have been in the same sequesterville for a few days now that they might've cleared some of this up already, but looks like that didn't happen.
As I’ve said above, I think that is part of the problem. While Buffy is thinking that Willow’s been totally used, Willow has been going on and on about how wonderful Tara is. It only cements Buffy’s belief that Tara used her friend.
I think a lot of people agree with you on T vs. F but many survivor jurors would vote for Faith because they believe that’s the point of the game.
this is so like a supreme court vote, the hard right and the hard left are all decided, and now it's like waiting to see what o'connor's gonna do.
I shudder to think!!!!!!
Thanks.
Mary is apparently going deaf in her old age, Debra. I believe my exact words were "just say NO to queer square dancing!" No offense to any queer square dancers. :-D And Mary, my dear, I need no excuse to break out the flannel. :p
To keep this on topic...Debra, the final two was the subject of fierce debate in chat last night, and I seemed to be the only one picking Tara. I may have bet my house on it. And my cat. And Mary's cd collection. Help me out here?
Since I've been working all the freaking time, I haven't had a chance to tell you (a) how much I've enjoyed the last few chapters and (b) I finally watched the first season of "Survivor" on DVD. It is a very fascinating show, I will admit. I put the second season on my Netflix queue, but I need to get through a few other discs before I get to the next season. Damn you and your good writing, you've gotten me to like yet another TV show. This is exactly what my life needs. Politics and... more politics.
In other news, great progress on the story. I can definitely see the parallels between how the first season of the show progressed with how your story has developed. Given that, I am compelled to think that Faith will win, though I can easily see the jury not forgiving Faith. It is very suspenseful, and I can't wait for the next chapter. Good job.
