I drove an hour to my favorite comic shop, only to find out that he didn't order any of them and in fact he stopped ordering Buffy because only one person was buying it. So I will go this weekend an hour in the other diretion and get it. Grrrr! But on the up-side I bought 3 graphic novels, the new Batgirl, and 24 comic pages so I can get started on my comic at last!

Joy, that sucks! I'm so sorry for you.

I tried to call my usual store and have them hold some copies, but even tho they know me - no same day holds! Argh!

I'll just have to take off from work an hour early and hope all the other Wesbians in my part of town left a copy for me;~)

*end rant*

~Joy, hoping for no snowstorm this weekend so I can get my copy!

Willow and Tara's story is titled: "Punish me with Kisses," but it's not about them! (and it's not their 'kisses'.. hrmp!) it's abt this couple who are ghosts in this B&B and who can't seem to find peace (bec. of a squabble which led to their deaths) so the two girls help them. it starts when Tara's telling this story abt a rare flower which only grows in the snow in Northern Ca and enhances one's spell casting power. so they go to this B&B to pick one early in the a.m. but the ghosts appear and their plans are thwarted.

ok, the story is so-so. however, the drawing or art is *definitely* an anime Willow and Tara! imagine Sailor Moon with her big (as in round) eyes, that's what W/T look like! even their expressions are the exact 'anime' duplicate! they do not resemble W/T so don't be surprised! well, theirs is better than the Buffy/Riley and Dru/Spike stories.

i like the beginning tho' coz Tara's telling the story of the rare flower just like what she did in Family. peace.

omg, i want to bed last night thinking "Lover's walk comes out tomorrow, yay." and it was the first thought in my head when i woke up! I was short on time so i had to run into the shop and run back out.
All three storys were okay, of course the willow and tara one, "punish me with kisses" one was the best! and it was drawn in an anime (japanese cartoon)style!!! so i was totally excited that it looked so good and so different from the other towo. The worst one though was the Dru and spike one which really dissapointed me. cuz i LOVE drusilla SO much! she is tied with will and T as my fave chr...but hopefully you will get it and see for yrself.

Luckely i live in the big city (NY) so they have EVERY comic like, EVER

april posted 02-07-2001 18:37 EST (US)
so are people saying that no w/t kissage happens in this comic? i'm going to be so disappointed...
xita posted 02-07-2001 18:45 EST (US)
The story was just blergh. Kinda disappointing. Not a fan of anime style w/t. Best think about it, Tara in drag. No kissage, doesn't even seem like they are a couple in it. Except for the fact that they chose one bed. That's it.
TwiLightJoy posted 02-07-2001 18:58 EST (US)
*skips over spoilers* Ooh so proud of me for doing that ... I have willpower now!

Xita, I really like the style that Chynna Clugston-Major has.... The flashback pages she did in the Bad Blood storyline were sooooo cute! But then I am a manga and anime fan so it kinda makes sense that I wanna see manga style Tara & Willow. I am really looking forward to seeing this book!!

wimpy comic people. amber, christopher and terry had better give us more! i'm counting on them!
Warduke posted 02-07-2001 19:45 EST (US)
And this is suppose to be the Valentine’s Day one right?…sounds like a complete rip-off, I knew they were never going to show any W/T romantic moments, not in a comic, even though comics like Spawn are ultra violent and others like Heavy Metal (do they still make those?) have graphic sex in them but nooooooooo we can’t have any W/T romance in a comic, that’s just wrong
xita posted 02-07-2001 20:53 EST (US)
warduke, I was very irritated. It really sucks. I expect nothing ever now.

W/T in bed

Tara in drag!

BBOvenGuy posted 02-07-2001 21:59 EST (US)
Hmmmm... sorry to see that the comic was such a disappointment (although I thought W&T look cute lying there on the ONE bed). If none of the couples kiss and the W/T story is actually the best one, though, at least we can't say the girls were treated unfairly. Everyone got shortchanged.

I suspect Chris, Amber and Terry will do much better - although, remember it looks like their story is set before NMR.

xita posted 02-08-2001 12:37 EST (US)
Hmm, you know yes the one bed is great and I do like the Tara tummy exposure. And I guess it was a better story than the other two. And I really don't get what the title had to do with the story.

Bob, I know it's preNMR but that could mean we get a little insight into what went on during that time. Let's remember what Christopher Golden said when they asked him about the portrayal of the relationship, Amber had leeway and that Willow had outed herself

Dr.G posted 02-08-2001 01:12 EST (US)
Thank you for the scans Xita, Tara in drag hehehe, that is funny. But what is that she says there? Most boys she's known have begged to be kissed? Are those those 8 people she knew growing up? Well, *I* would beg to kiss *her*, I am not too proud to beg, so I believe her there.

Sorry to hear it wasn't as good as was hoped for. I will put my faith in Amber and her leeway. Here's hoping it will lead the way to much W/T goodness...

my first reaction to all the stories: *that's it?* no biggie there! the lamest one was the B/R "one small promise." sorry. well i liked that part where they're lying on the bed (which sounds yummy to me altho' it's not intended) and where Tara pretends to be a man. oh and their expressions were cute! gotta handle it to anime with these kinda art. heh.heh. pax

well I'm sorry to hear that it sucked ...I'm not gonna get my for another two weeks or so...but I already pre-ordered The W/T one!...I cant wait for that one!...Thanks a bunch Xita for those scans!...now tell me again, why is Tara dressed as a man?!?...ok I have to ask a question, I've never bought a Buffy comic, but I know that some of them have two covers (Photo and Comic) do both of them have drawings inside or what...just curious, thanks!!

buh bye

She's dressed like a man because she is supposed to attract the attention of a female ghost that's been bugging the guests at the bed and breakfast.
Both covers have drawings inside. Though it would be cool if they had pictures, especially if we got a kiss!

Corporeal Dennis posted 02-08-2001 08:44 EST (US)
Well, allrighty then. Unlike most of the people here, I liked the comic. Though I agree it was a miscue to make the "Valentine's Day Special" involve a sappy romance for a relationship that's over in the series, a comedy, and a rehash of the whole "Vampires can't experience real love" ringamarole, looked at as a comedy, the Willow/Tara story is actually pretty funny. And, being a big fan of Anime-style Willow/Tara, I absolutely loved the art.

I also thought the authors captured Willow and Tara's personalities rather well... Tara didn't want to get involved, but Willow couldn't stop Nancy Drew-ing.

I'm not sayin' everyone doesn't have valid complaints. I'm just sayin' that comic books only cost a couple bucks. Oh, and I love the Scooby Doo ref at the beginning...

Willow: "Come on, let's check this out."
Tara: "Okay, but if it turns out to be that guy in a monster suit again, I'm going to be very upset."

Hee!

--Dennis, who takes offense at the people who claim to have never seen W/T romance in comics...

Warduke posted 02-08-2001 08:48 EST (US)
Thanks for the pics xita.

I really hope the next one, with Amber’s leeway, is much, much better.

april posted 02-08-2001 08:54 EST (US)
warduke, *terry moore* is drawing it. that makes it much much better already. and it's coming in my month! i'm so excited...

even this kinda lame w/t comic can't dampen my enthusiasm.

To quote Kevin Kline in "A Fish Called Wanda":

DISAPPOINTED!!!

I've never been upset with a BTVS product before, but I was *not* a happy camper after reading "Lover's Walk".

To be fair, I'll start with the few things that I *did* like:

The Disney/anime drawing - fun and wacky!

Tara in drag - has potential;~)

OK, now to the not-fun-bits:

This was NOT a romatic getaway, it was a GirlScout, G-rated field trip!

Now, I know this is a general comic and I wasn't even expecting smoochies, but *some small* indication or acknowledgement that W/T are in love/involved would have been nice.

The inking - Tara has green eyes, Willow has blue. Wha????

Tara drag - OK, the plan/plot was lame-o, but if one of them has to try to pass as a guy, I'd vote for Willow; less curves to cover-up and she already has short hair.

The Plot - dead breeders. Who freakin' cares?!? The story should have *begun* with W/T exhausted and disheveled on the bed with Tara in drag, but noooooooo - that's the ending!

And they didn't even get the stupid flower! Sheesh!

OK, ending rant before I give myself another stomach-ache.

At least the new Strangers In Paradise is good...I hope Terry & Amber do a better job in April than the bozos who let this crap slip by.

As the resident comic geek here, I fear I must admit being somewhat disapointed. Just a little, but it was not very valentines dayish.
One line, even one gesture, beyond one bed even, would have been great.

as least they are canon now..

..Owing everyone a apology on behave of my previous excitment

xita posted 02-08-2001 15:19 EST (US)
Well, I blame them for promoting it as a romantic comic. Special Valentine's day issue and what not. Call it what it is next time. I think the most annoying part was that they went there to find a flower. Why couldn't they just get away to be alone. That alone made this a tad dissapointing.
Dead Dog posted 02-09-2001 09:09 EST (US)
Well I was bored with lots of time on my hands (been laid off and unemployed for a month until yesterday when I finally got an offer letter) so I removed the word balloons from the bed scene.

These are typically large, 100-150k each. Second one is cropped in, and 1024x768 for wallpaper.

xita posted 02-09-2001 15:01 EST (US)
Nick, wow, cool! Thank you! I like it much better without the balloons. Now, I can insert my own dialogue
BBOvenGuy posted 02-09-2001 15:11 EST (US)
And exactly what sort of dialogue would you insert, hmmm???
xita posted 02-09-2001 15:14 EST (US)
I am thinking Tara could tell Willow this time, I don't need to be snuggled. Or maybe, we have one hour to get that flower, I think we can think of something to do in the meantime.
