Promo Pics

Postby BBOvenGuy » Sun Jun 09, 2002 3:26 pm

Okay, here are my cleaned up versions of the promo pics. Click on the thumbnails to see bigger versions.

Amber with fellow cast member J. Richey Nash and 19-year-old writer Jeremy Gable.

And yes NoveltyAct, that was an extremely weak moment from a writing perspective, because the playwright placed the pivotal moment of his story entirely in the hands of his actors. It worked because Amber made it work, because she was able to take what she'd been given - that is to say, pretty much nothing - and make something real, deep and meaningful with it.

Tra la la.

Okay, for the umpteenth time...here's the Joel thing.

Joel Michaely is an actor who has played parts in...well, shall we say "flamey" roles? He's also a friend of Amber's. He's her "friend". They've been seen out together.

That's it.

Oh, and I love him. We have a beautiful love. A miraculous love. :)

And totally coincidentally. And we are sure the character is in no way shape or form based on this Joel so DON'T EVEN GO THERE PEOPLE. There happens to be a gay character named Joel in Ruth's fic Final Exam that if you have not read is totally and completely your loss. You'll never know the truth that is the boiler room. It's hot in boiler rooms you know. Real hot.

And remember. Total coincidence.

Autumn, are you saying there is some sort of connection between Joel and Ruth?

I just finished reading this post, wow, cool.

The Reviewer is absolutely correct in stating that in New York, Boston et al, when we see excellence in the theatre. There is no question, about doing a standing "O", you just do it.

Amber Benson is not just another pretty face, ok so she does have a pretty face, ok but...she's got "it". She doesn't just read her lines, she doesn't just show up and play the part. She pulls the audience into the character. With sutble motions, a glance, a smile and mabye a pause. But she get's you. She doesn't have to say a word. She get's you, what ever character she is doing, she's got you.

She doesn't waste any time, with the frivolity. No. She skillfully seduces you into her character.

I did not have the opportunity to see Amber in this play. I'm glad that folks are from this board. Go, support Amber, in anything that she may take part in. This is an incredible opportunity to see a mega superstar in the making. Up close and in person.

LOL Thanks so much, Ruth, for finally solving the big secret, and so sorry I bugged you with this question for the x th time (had no idea). Actually read Boiler room and Locker room today (you sure have a thing with (un)appropriate settings, huh ;) ) Didn't spot any Joel yet (might be because I only have eyes for W/T of course) Guess I'll have to read on (like it's some sort of punishment, sheesh :) ).

Thanks for the lovely pics, Bob, and all kittens who posted wonderful reviews. Living in some insignificant place in the middle of nowhere, it's good to read those reports: you take what you can get, right.

Yes, Ruth's entire existence is all an act. She's never once been to Britain (nicely faked accent), she's actually a size 8 and about 5'9", and her entire life is as a slave to Joel.

He's the one who 'created' Ruth for us, because he wants to mess with our heads. Crazy old Joel. :D

Nice to see everyone had a good time, seems Amber did a great job, and was totally sweet to all, as always.

Still think its weird she wouldn't say for sure that she's gone from the show for good, may mean something or nothing. Guess we're in for a wait to see what happens situation.

Saw the sunday matinee

Postby Iamyouknowyours » Mon Jun 10, 2002 1:10 am

Amber is amazing. I've never seen anyone so comfortable and at home on a stage. She didn't seem like she was acting at all, which is a sign of the most brilliant acting there is. It also was nice to see her moving around. On film you rarely get full body-shots and lots of movement is distracting, but it worked perfectly for this piece. Sorry, my picture is not developed yet. I didn't get the chance to ask for one with her, but I did get one with her and the other actor in the show and the author. I'll post it eventually, after I polish off that roll of film. Great show though.

Dream away

Postby GridMonkey » Mon Jun 10, 2002 3:08 am

So I bolted up in bed at 4 am just a bit ago because I had a nightmare that I went to see the show Amber was in and I missed her show and then I made a fool of myself trying to talk to her. Then there were aliens taking people away and herding us on to the subway and I lost my sister. It was a pretty icky dream all around. But it woke me up in time to see the end of the US/Korea game. Go USA!

Oh as I was young and easy in the mercy of his means,
Time held me green and dying
Though I sang in my chains like the sea.

Postby ariadneia » Mon Jun 10, 2002 11:29 am

AutumnT, thank you so very much for finding out about and posting the news on Amber's stage appearance. I was lucky enough to be able to go on Sat. night too. Amber was amazing. I am trying to say this with as little bias as possible, because I truly believe that her performance was very strong. She came on stage full of 16 year old energy and assuredness and transformed, with that stare, into someone older, wiser, made solemn by the place they've been forced into. I never expected her to break, good actors don't do that, there is never any wink wink to the audience unless it is called for in the script. But it went beyond that, she never left the space of her character, she was completely connected. Anyway, I could go on and on. The writing was a little weak at the end, but I liked the story.

And I did notice the 'Joel' part, I heard that and immediately thought "where are the the kittens?" and like on cue, I heard a series of short, high pitched squeaks coming from about three rows ahead of me, probably would have gone unnoticed if I hadn't been listening for it. :) The whole night was great, good writing, good actors, very cool small little theater (yes, it was both small and little :) ) I didn't stick around to meet Amber, mostly cause I'm too shy, but also it just didn't seem like the right time or place, but I'm glad to hear she was gracious to all of you who did go up talk to her. Also, I had already managed to embarrass myself by unknowingly talking about the finer points of Amber, and her good acting, all through intermission before overhearing the guy sitting very close behind me say he was Amber's best friend. I have never wanted to stick my boot so far in my mouth before. But hey, at least I only said good things. needless to say, I shut up and stayed shut up for the rest of the show.

Sorry for the long post, I'm all done now and ready to go back to lurking, thanks again Autumn for the info, and thank you to Xita, for this board, it truly is a sanctuary.

read on another board (Ess of Amb.) that she said she hadn't done stage work in many years, was nervous about forgetting her lines (thought she had made two mistakes in that regard) but was thinking of getting back into theatre.

which kind of suggests to me she is looking for work options

Yeah, it seems like every new bit of information about Amber herself suggests that she's moving on. Which doesn't completely rule out another Buffy appearance, but it does suggest that any such appearance would be ghost Tara telling Willow to carry on without her.

Amber has written plays before. Back before Season 5 she had put some things together with one of the actors from the Watchers' Council hit squad. Nothing ever came of it, though. Maybe she'll revive them now.

It's really sad...

Postby Kieli » Mon Jun 10, 2002 3:15 pm

...just reading this makes me more sad than you could ever imagine. Joss could have done such great things with Amber on board...but instead chose to stab her in the back (or shoot her in the back as the case may be) and just lie to everyone for a whole freaking year! *ugh* I totally loathe the man. He just let good talent go to waste. Good thing Amber has other things to fall back on. Shows that she doesn't need him to do well.
