Willow Season 7 Multimedia Thread

Postby urnofosiris » Tue Sep 10, 2002 9:05 am

This is the thread to post season 7 Willow multimedia stuff in: caps, clips, links to downloads etc. Spoilery pics can also be posted in this thread. No need to wait till the episodes have aired. Just keep it about Willow or NOTWillow as that is probably a more fitting description. Oh well and it is ok to post a link to downloads of the entire ep so those who want to can try and find Willow somewhere in these episodes and who knows maybe even a mention of that shy blond individual she used to do spells with. :sigh

I'd also urge caution in what goes up here

if its informing those not watching of willows progress or tara's return I say great

if its just show type clips/pics, etc then isn't it just biz as usual on the board? so whedon wins cuz folks are still watching no matter tara's death and the cliche? I think we should seriously think about what belongs here

I noticed a slew of lurkers with little to no posting history wanting to join this forum and my gut tells me its because this board has a history of having great spoiler info and being a major resource for multi media/pics/clips of the new episodes for people who may not be interested in the boards ideals just in what it offers in the way of perks.

I'd hate to see the forum promoting the show if thats the case

and yes its a closed forum but that doesn't mean it won't get accessed and materials spread around some how or other

I'm agree with you Helpful. I'll still make the videos, caps and stuff, but it will be only about Willow. Or Tara, if she comes or if we see her. No one else.

I always made them for the real W/T fans, so i wouldn't like it to be different now.

looks like whedon is just switching the "sad/lost" characters

last year it was buffy

this year its willow

the coven come lately's help and giles intervention seem rather - too little too late

I'm not all that about the idea that willows blue funk is over her magic addiction and killings - No furken mention of her grief over tara?? and no real consequences for her murders?

why is this coven really going to let a powerful witch who is unstable and already gone off the deep end once lose on the world again?

and why am I even talking about this

ok

out of here before I get all pissed off again

We have thought very seriously and very long about what we should do and this is what we came up with. The guidelines -which includes not reposting info outside this board- are clear, if someone cannot abide by them access to this forum can be revoked.

That said, no one is promoting anything here. Willow is the focus, WT are the focus. If we feel things will drift off topic we can say something until then I would not be concerned, as you note this is a closed forum, it's purpose is to serve the people of this board and among those people are those who used to just lurk. We are letting some of them in and they are as welcome as you or I.

Just for the record, I don't think I'll be converting and hosting any episodes this year. After what happened to Lee in the summer (big fine apparently), and all the general crappiness, I don't think its worth it.

Hello Dr G.

not sure if this belongs here so feel free to move as you please

You wrote:

*** I'm sure you have put a great deal of thought into this avenue and I think it a very practical approach to a thorney problem. However, it is now being put into practice with a much larger group of people who may or may not have been part of the "brain storming" so I'd imagine some kinks and the like may need to get ironed out/discussed in the practical sense to get everyone on the same page so to speak. I know personally the loss of the "I love tara and want her back" and "angry rant" threads on the other board were a shock and put me into a bit of a panic since I'd come to depend on them for comfort and venting. Their loss actually pushed me into coming here even though I'm not much interested in anything season 7 unless tara is back

The guidelines -which includes not reposting info outside this board- are clear, if someone cannot abide by them access to this forum can be revoked.

**** I can tell you from mulitple bad experiences that a closed forum is an open invitation for party crashers. and when there are a large group of individuals signed onto a board like this (esp where previoius experience with the kitty boards has been to share imformation/pics/links etc openly), I'd imagine many folks will cut and paste or pass on links to pics and the like without thinking hey this board is different from the other platforms of the kitty

You also wrote:

you note this is a closed forum, it's purpose is to serve the people of this board and among those people are those who used to just lurk. We are letting some of them in and they are as welcome as you or I.

**** While I personally don't like lurkers on closed forums (since they are private forums by design, to me lurking then is like ease dropping on a private conversation) I can understand your logic on this issue. Although when I signed on I thought the rule was 25 posts/established time period/+ recent posts to join - which gave me the impression it would be a place with few lurkers.

I also thought you posted something about hot links as opposed to putting pics in the threads

I would prefer hot links to pics I guess so I could make up my mind if I wanted to see them or not

However, I can understand not wanting to provide hot links to pics etc created for this board alone since copying links and circulating them makes them easily available to the masses

any way

thanks for taking the time to provide feedback/comment Dr G

What garfield means is that we may not want to post the pictures directly on this thread but merely link so people can avoid accidentally seeing them. I think this is a good compromise for those watching and not watching, so that if you want to see them you can just click.

I just edited so that it's links instead, it will let people who don't want to see them easily avoid them and for those who want to see them, they just have to click on the links.

Also helps with those who don't have high speed connections, stops the thread from being slow to load for dial-up users.

Thanks for making those pictures links.

I like that idea better because it was kind of a shock seeing those pics without warning. I usually have to build up the courage/strength to view the Season 7 spoiler pics(should I or shouldn't I look?), I'm weird like that.

That's a very good point Italiangirl, but like I said, it does help those with dial-up connections and the other point about links being better than actually posting the pics is...think of last year, when Seeing Red aired, everyone wanted to see caps of W/T in bed, kissing, etc...but almost no one wanted to see the caps of Tara being shot, or the blood splattered on Willow's shirt, so with links instead of pics, all that is avoided, people can see what they want to see and can avoid what they don't want to see.

Warduke...

Oh balls. Drat on you for making a logical point about this. *grin* I can see where you're coming from in that aspect, but I still hope everyone will be careful to not step on the toes of those of us who are followers of the story. As careful as I think most of us are being not to step on anyone else's toes.

Can we just make a rule that says no toe stepping allowed? Two stepping, on the other hand...

heh heh heh.

Also, can I just say that every time I type the word "followers" I feel compelled to put "of the story" behind it because just saying "followers" makes us sound like some kind of weird Heaven's Gate cultish freaks. lol

Hence, safe space. I'm not viciously opposed to using hotlinks instead of embedded images, but it is kind of creating an atmosphere that feels like everyone's considerations are being accounted for accept those interested in following the story, and those kittens, myself included, (I am not watching but I AM following) are just as much in love with Willow/Tara and the board philosophy as the non watchers. You know? Sort of like if people who are not Willow/Tara shippers should not come into the Kitten board and tell us how to feel, people who are not watchers/show followers any more should not come into the spoiler and multimedia threads and tell us how to feel.

So basically you are saying I should not look in this thread if I don't want to see pics, well like Xita said, I don't want to see any pics (though I thank Ange for the goodies she brings and has brought the kitties in the past :) ) but I still have to watch this thread as people post more than pics in them, they post comments as well and I and anyone else should be able to read them without being forced to see images we do not wish to see.

Dear God, links please. I'm on dial up and I certainly don't want honkin' great photographs halting my page from loading. Plus, yes, it's a personal choice. And it's easier. And you know, it's more considerate, rather than foisting pictures onto people who pop in here to read posts as well as look for multimedia stuff. :)

I'm with Tommo and Kismic on this. yes please stick with links. I don't have a problem with having to click on a link to see the pics. I'm on dial up also and this archaic device I like to call my computer is slow enough as it is.

And for those who aren't sure they want to see the pics, but want to read what is posted here, I think using links will make it easier for them to come this thread. That way if after reading the post they do want to see the pics they can.

Oh and Ange thanks for the pics keep em coming this is my first year being spoiled it's kinda invigorating!

Tara cut from promos ?

Postby Grimlock72 » Thu Sep 12, 2002 5:21 pm

Hi,

I've read on several threads/boards now that Tara was cut from season 7 promo's (either movies or pics I don't know).

Could someone describe that a bit, or even better post before/after cutting stuff ?? (the links to those of course :) )

It sounds soooo severly weird and stupid, why make promo's with Tara in them if they were gonna edit her out ? They didn't start shooting season 7 eps before airing 'Seeing Red' now did they ??

Utterly confused here....

Well, I know that in the clip from Once More, With Feeling where Buffy is dancing with Anya and Tara as 'back ups' they air brushed out Tara on the right side. You can kind of see the right side of her body, but it's faint and that part of the promo goes by pretty quickly.

What a bunch of ass wipes!

She is also missing from the TabRas group scream in that promo. Which really begs the question, did they assemble the promos and then say oops we better take her out? Because if not, wtf even bother to use clips with her in them just to air brush her out later.

Well officially, of course, I have to say that I have no idea what you're talking about.

Re: Tara cut from promos ?

Postby The Partisan » Thu Sep 12, 2002 7:23 pm

It's a fairly safe bet to make that the people making the promo know far less, if anything, about the show in question. The promo is a UPN thing alone. Odds are, whoever assembled that promo didn't know who Tara was, let alone the fact that she was no longer with the show.

I'm figuring they made a promo with Tara-clips included (since they had no knowledge not to), were told by someone in the know (either at ME, or someone masochist at UPN who actually watches BtVS) that Tara was gone, so instead of making a whole new promo, they do a quick blurring out of the segements with her, so as not to rile up the fans who would be saying, "Look, look, Tara's in the promo for S7"

Edited to add:

Ironically, removing Tara has likely caused just as much, if not more agita than just leaving her in would have.

Yeah, I'd have to say it's caused far more controversy/agitation. It was pretty clear that most of the clips were from last season. Especially the one from OMWF. My guess is that most people who had watched the show enough to know who Tara was and wonder if she'd be back likely also recognized the fact that these weren't this years pics and hopefully wouldn't be assuming that meant Tara in S7.

There is no excuse for censoring her from the promo. They cannot have done it to spare our feelings as Joss Whedon cannot stop saying Amber will be back if blah de blah. They are already doing their bit to keep whatever hope some have left alive. This feels like an insult to the degree of finally putting her in the credits of the ep they kill her character in and then not even crediting her name in the next. This is yet another insult to Tara and Amber Benson, especially when it comes to the clip from OMWF.

I'm not trying to defend, or excuse their actions, not by a longshot, though my previous post might not have been as clear as I intended. I have a tendency to try to post things without involving my own personal opinions when I'm trying to explain something. I'm just saying that the promo fiasco likely came about as a result of ignorance and indifference rather than outright malice.

Someone, somewhere along the line made the connection that Tara was in the promo, but wasn't in Season 7. So instead of fixing it and replacing the footage for sake of clarity, they took the path of least resistance. Which really does speak more to the root cause, I'd say: Indifference.

They didn't want to hurt us...they don't care enough about us to bother trying.

Is it still insulting? Absolutely...and whether or not the insult was intentional is a rather moot point.

Personally? Fuck UPN for what they've done, and Fuck ME even more for their own actions. I just like to keep the people I'm pissed at clearly defined.

I think about sums up season 6 and that is excactly why I feel they should know better. I don't care who's bright idea this was. I don't even care if it was Amber Benson herself who did not want to be in the promo (this is hypothetical of course). If that were the case they should have used another clip. They had 22 eps to choose from. Also, I would think it takes more time to edit her from an existing clip than replacing said clip with one she isn't in. This took effort, a nasty effort, to deliberately edit out the person who was such an important part of the heart of the show and OMWF especially.

Thanks J uk, pictures can speak a thousand words.
