Feedback: Any and all is welcome.

Summary: It takes place during Season four after Where the Wild Things Are, the timeline does not follow the rest of the season four timeline. Willow is trying to come to terms with her feelings for Tara and she asks a friend for help.

This is Part one of two.

Willow paced back and forth in her dorm room. She kept glancing at the clock. In three hours she would be meeting Tara and she was going to tell her exactly how she felt. No more dancing around the issue, it was time to be honest. But how do you tell someone you're not dating that you love them? "I need help," Willow thought, "Who do I ask? I could ask Buffy, but she's never around. Is this something Xander can handle? I guess I'll find out." Willow walked over to the night stand, picked up the phone, and dialed Xander's number.

"Hello you've reached the den of love," Xander said.

"Xander?" Willow questioned.

" Hey there Willster, What's up?"

"First, den of love? And second, are you busy or can you come over?"

"No, not busy. I'll be right over," Xander said, "You don't like the den of love?"

"See you soon," Willow said laughing and hanging up the phone. Leave it to Xander to make her laugh. He always seemed to know how to do that. It wasn't so long ago that she had been madly in love with him, it wasn't so long ago that their fluke almost broke up her and Oz, and it really wasn't long ago at all that she had turned him into a demon-magnet because of her broken heart. "And now I'm in love with a girl," Willow thought, " I knew I was kinda gay when my skanky vamp self came. Buffy thought I didn't hear Angel, but I did. Not that I didn't have some clue before that, I did. I wonder how Xander's gonna take this? I've known him forever. I tell him everything, and I never told him any of this. If I had just told him all the little things I felt from the beginning, then telling him that I love Tara wouldn't be such a big deal. He can handle it, he can." Willow heard the knock at the door and opened it. She only had two hours and counting.

"Thank God you're here. What took you so long?" Willow said pulling Xander into the room.

"I didn't think I took that long. What's up?"

"You might want to sit down," Willow said resuming her pacing.

"Why? What's up?" Xander said again much more seriously this time.

"I'm in love with someone and I don't know how to tell them," Willow said.

"Will, you know I'm with Anya now. Remember how badly the fluke turned out," Xander said.

"It's not you," Willow said.

"Okay, then do I know this person?"

"Yes," Willow said, "They've helped with the Scooby stuff."

"Well you already said it wasn't me. It couldn't be Giles because that would be too disturbing. It better not be Riley because Buffy would kill you. So that leaves Spike. Oh Will, tell me it's not Spike."

"It's definately not Spike, but there's still someone unattached left. A friend of mine."

"No, there's no more boys. Giles, me, Riley, Spike," Xander said counting off on his fingers and then it hit him, "Oh, Oh, well that means, okay it's not Buffy, she's attached, literally I think. And it's not Anya because she's attached and she's not your friend. That leaves Tara. You're in love with Tara."

"Ah huh," Willow said nodding.

"Since when are you gay?"

"Since I don't know. Xander that's not the point," Willow said walking over and sitting next to Xander on the bed, "I need to know how to tell her."

"Give me a minute to digest. I need time to react. I mean we've been best friends forever and now you're like I'm gay. What do you want me to say?"

"I would love for you to react, but I'm running out of time. I'm meeting Tara soon and I really need your advice," Willow said, "You can come over tomorrow and react, okay."

"Fair enough," Xander said, " I would just tell her."

"Just come out and say Tara I love you. Don't you think it's a bit much considering I'm not sure she even knows I like her," Willow said.

"Okay than tell her that first," Xander said.

"What if she doesn't like me back? I don't deal well with rejection."

"What's not to like?" Xander said pulling Willow into a hug.

"Thanks I needed that," Willow said, "It's time for me to go. Wish me luck."

"Good luck," Xander said, "I guess I better get back to Anya."

Willow smiled and closed the door behind them.

This is a really sweet idea, and underlines the fact that Willow and Xander have been friends for, well, ever. ;)

You might want to think about getting a beta reader to guide you over enhancing and developing description etc.

I really adore the "in the beginning" fics. It's really amazing at how many ways our wonderful fic writers can get the girls together.

And now, my dear, we add you to the list.

I hope the second part is coming soon.

I always felt bad for Willow not having felt she could talk to any of them about Tara until that day Oz came.

I'm glad you've shown that she could talk to Xander.

Lovely start, liked the way that you encompassed the fact that Willow had a clue to being gay before the vamp thing and before meeting Tara. Look forward to a part 2.

Update

Postby Mainer » Tue Apr 23, 2002 12:05 pm

Sorry this took so long.

Part Two

Willow kicked at the ground as she walked. Words could not express her nervousness. "Sure she said she was mine, but she easily could have meant it in a friend way," Willow thought, "Don't lose all your confidence on the way there. You need to tell her now, it's important. It's more than important. It's essential." Willow stopped outside of Tara's building, she had gotten there much too fast. She needed more time to prepare what she was going to say and how she was going to say it. Willow liked to have a plan, no matter what she was doing she needed a plan, and now standing outside of Tara's dorm she wished she'd come up with a better plan than asking Xander. Willow looked up at Tara's lighted window, "I wonder what she's thinking. Maybe she's thinking about me. I wonder what she's doing right now. Well I guess there's only one way to find out." Willow thought heading up to Tara's room. Willow stood outside Tara's door shifting from one foot to the other fidgeting with the hem of her shirt afraid to knock. She began pacing in front of the door and talking quietly to herself trying to gain her confidence back. She was so focussed on the mission at hand that she was ignoring the strange looks she was receiving from students passing by. Willow was well aware of the fact that she looked like a crazy person pacing and talking to herself, but she needed to muster all her courage to knock on that door, and forget about how courage it would take to do what she had to do once she got inside.

"Are you okay?" a passing student asked.

"Yeah, fine," Willow said blushing and stepping up to Tara's door she knocked. Apparently a stranger inquiring about her sanity was the kick she needed.

"Hi Willow," Tara said opening the door and stepping aside to let Willow in," Y-you're early."

"Sorry. I can come back," Willow said still standing in the hall.

"No, I d-didn't mean. Come in," Tara said motioning for Willow to come forward.

"Okay," Willow said smiling and stepping into Tara's room.

"I h-have the ingredients for the s-spell ready," Tara said pointing to the circle on the floor as she shut her door.

"That's great," Willow said. Now she was in trouble. Her plan was to tell Tara while they were setting up for the spell. "Think, Willow, think. You're smart you can improvise," Willow thought trying quickly to come up with a back up plan.

"Willow? A-are you okay?" Tara asked noticing that Willow didn't seem to be there anymore.

"What? Oh yeah, of course. I couldn't be better," Willow said, "I know that I just sounded incredibly stupid, but at first I didn't hear you and then I did."

"Where did you go?" Tara asked.

"What?"

"I'm s-sorry. It's j-just that I could tell y-you weren't really here, and I d-do that too. I just wanted to k-know where you went, but I'm sorry."

"Tara you don't have to be sorry," Willow said moving over to the blonde and placing her hand on her arm, "I was just thinking, that's all. I have something really important I want to tell you."

"It's o-okay. I knew t-that this day would c-come," Tara said shrugging off Willow's hand and stepping back.

"What day? What are you talking about?" Willow asked moving toward Tara.

"I k-knew that one day y-you w-wouldn't want to be my f-friend anymore," Tara said folding her arms over her chest and letting her hair cover her face.

"No, Tara, that's not it at all," Willow said moving so she was standing directly in front of Tara and she placed her hand back on Tara's arm, " I don't really know how to say this. I've been planning this moment for so long you'd think I would have it all figured out by now," Willow removed her hand and began pacing again, she seemed to think more clearly when she did that, "See, the thing is that this has never happened to me before and I really don't know how to do this. Xander told me I should just come out and say it, so I guess that's what I'll do. I like you, a lot, and I don't mean like as in a friend. I do like you as a friend, but what I mean by like is I like, like you. Actually to be perfect honest I more than like you. I think I love you, and I completely understand if you never want to see me again, but I kinda got the feeling that you might like me to, but if you don't I respect that. I know that I keep talking, but I'm afraid if I stop that you'll answer." Tara walked over to Willow and placed her index finger over Willow's lips.

"I love you too," Tara said removing her finger.

"You do? Really?"

"Really," Tara said smiling.

Willow leaned in and kissed Tara. Just a small peck at first, but soon it grew in intensity to a passionate one. Tara pulled away and smiled at Willow.

"I've wanted to do that for a long time," Willow said smiling back.

"I hate to ask this, but what does this mean?" Tara asked.

"I guess it means we're girlfriends," Willow said. Willow looked at Tara and thought, "I have a girlfriend."

Awwww ... and it was a little scary at the end there ... I actually told my g/f that I had a g/f when I found out she was my g/f. Did that make sense?

Anyway ... wonderful. Will there be more? (By the way, there is only one correct answer to that. Hint: Check the box next to YES).

...oh my god..i have spend an interesting, well actually two interesting days, with a friend of mine and a friend of hers, on who I had a crush on for like over 2 years or so...i think i was okay with that and everything was fine...well, i guess i'm wrong...i still like her... :( :rolleyes

When I've read your story and the way Willow tells Tara about her feelings, i could imagine that this could be some way for me to tell that girl about my feelings too...if it only wouldn't be so hard...

Anyway.., like your story a lot, it's really gorgeous!

Oh baby, want me to rub your tummy? She likes it when I ... stop explaining things.

Hi, um Tara..how are you? well...I was wondering maybe you want to go out some time...for coffee? food? Kisses and gay love?

Aw that was sweet. Poor Tara was all insecure there, thinking that Willow didn't want to be her friend any more. And now they're girlfriends. Lovely!
