I did think the tone was a little high but I put it down to not knowing how any of them sang!

Thanks for the clarification.

Yes, I never do anything with my life other than search the BBC Buffy site.
They've just announced that they'll be repeating S2 starting in April. Details here. Personally, I'd sooner see S3 again, but anyway...

"I'll always find you..." - Willow to Tara, The Gift

After seeing The Gift in full for the first time this evening on BBC, I have to say - what a finale! A fitting end to (imho) a v good season. Joss manages to tie up all of those loose ends from throughout the season in one happy, sad, amusing, but heart-wrenching 45 mins.

From the outset we knew it was going to be something different, something special. We then go on to explore different sides of some of the characters: Giles' darker, "ripper" side; Anya's (somewhat surprising) intelligent suggestions; we see buffy threaten to kill any of them, and spikes real compassion and heroism.

most important of all, of course, willow saves tara!! Yay!!!
Also, a great moment from right out of "hush" as they knock back the crazies.

giles finally shows us what he is really capable of, although we could probably see it coming from his dialog earlier - it still a very sad scene though.

dawn redeems herself this episode, throwing away her selfishness, offering to sacrifice herself to save the world. its about time.

buffys heroic last actions and speech still manage to bring a tear to my eye.

a few notes: - is it just me, or were those hell creatures and the alien building just the most horrific scene, with the chilling screaming and the white teeth monsters. i'll have nighmares tonight.
- cangrats to the cg team for some super effects (they really have com a long way).
- also spike clealy walks in direct sunlight without poofing.

the ending: unfortunately, having seen s6, the final scene doesnt really have the intended impact, but my family were certainly shocked/upset ("what? no more Buffy? No! Oh. Phew!").

a super joss finale, worthy of every praise.

now for a refreshing re-run of s2.joy.

Where did you hear this Ces?

I know they are going to re-screen S2 after the alternative winter games, but I've seen nought about S6. It's still in its Sky run, so I'm kinda dubious about the Beeb going straight into S6 at this time. They usually have to wait until Autumn.

Mind you, *great* if so, no more bloody ads. Wind up the censorship engine will ya'. If this is true we need to start pushing for a later time slot [again]

Following on from what people were saying about VHS box sets, does anybody know which seasons are available in the UK and whether you can rent them from video stores rather than buying them outright (I am a poor student!)

The TV stations have no idea what to do with a show like Buffy. They market it as a kids' show. The BBC show it at 6.45pm even through it has a supernatural theme and the show itself has a title based on killing!

The trouble is that it may have started out as being suitable for younger viewers but the show has grown up and so has the fans and so they content has become more adult and darker. The scheduling should reflect that.

I wish both the BBC and Sky would just give Buffy a post-watershed but primetime slot - say 9 or 10pm - like they do with The X-Files. That way they wouldn't need to cut it - if uncut episodes of Buffy could air on the WB network in the States then no way are they too risque, gory or controversial for BBC2 or Sky One at 10pm.

If the BBC won't treat the show properly I hope Channel 4 buys it, though they did have trouble with their scheduling of Angel.

Ok, re: bbc showings. I swear that the announcer lady on thurs said that they were going to be showing s2 in april, but on friday night (late buffy - cos I missed a lot of it the first time round) I'm sure she said s6, maybe it was lack of sleep but a few of my friends have agreed with me on this, although the bee usually can't show until sky have finished???

i don't think the announcer was really made aware of what the situation was. She says, very misleadingly:

"Can that really be the end? Can the world survive without the slayer? Find out as the new series of Buffy kicks off next month."

She has obviously been told that Buffy there will be Buffy on next month, and assumed that is the next series.

the BBC buffy site has already said that s2 will be on, and they usually know well in advance when schedule changes will occur.

You will be able to rent S5 BTVS and S2 Angel from larger Blockbusters. They will stock S6 from Monday 3rd June when it is released (eps 1-11). Independent video stores or libraries sometimes stock the earlier seasons.

The BBC do show 'Buffy' uncut when they repeat it on Friday Nights (around midnight/1am). I believe they intend to keep this practice in place when they show Season 6 in the Autumn.

There are many problems with the shows 6:45/8pm timeslots, as obvioulsy parents need to feel satisfied that neccessary care is being taken pre-watershed.

When the show first started five yesrs ago, it was scheduled in family timeslots, as many 15/16 year olds were watching a show about a girl thier own age, however as the show has developed, like the characters it is deang with more adult stoylines. These 15.16 year olds are now in their early twenties, so a teatime family slot is not needed anymore.

I can't see how they'll be able to show season 6 in a 6:45 pm slot at all, it's much stronger than previous seasons.

If they cut it, some episodes will loose so much the plots will make no sense.quote:

Sky One are repeating various episodes from Season 3 on Good Friday. I suppose at least these episodes will be suitable for the timeslot. But don't they know we all have Season 3 on DVD???? But Faith, good anytime!

They are also showing a behind the scenes special the same day (4pm) and "Buffy Meets Blackwood" (9pm) on Sunday 31st March. They will repeat Bargaining (both parts) afterwards (10pm).

Happy Easter kitties!

Best guess, from someone who doesn't know, a BTS special introduces by Richard Blackwood, sometime pop star, comedian and MTV video jock.

That will more than likely just be him talking over a previously filmed special, but it might not be.

Glad to hear that Bargaining is to be shown uncut - in the context of what happens later I think some of the cuts are quite important to character development.

Thanks to all those who alerted us!

Could it be that BtVS is shooting on location in Blackwood?

(Its a little welsh town - famous for being where the Manic Street Preachers grew up)

Edited to add:

No, Its actually Richard Blackwood meeting Sarah Michelle Gellar!

The US viewers will be soooo jealous!

Couple of tidbits:
* Sky will show an UNCUT repeat of 'Bargaining' on Sky One, this Sunday (31st March) at 10pm.
* This will be preceded by an hour-long interview with SMG by the comedian Richard Blackwood (imaginatively entitled 'Buffy meets Blackwood') at 9pm.
And I'm thinking that showing an ep with a resurrection theme on Easter Sunday shows that Sky's schedulers have a warped sense of humour.

The scheds for the Buffathon are:

1100...Anne
1200...Dead mans party
1300...Band Candy
1400...Lovers Walk
1500...The Prom

followed by the 'Buffy's Back' docu. You know, the one where everyone but Amber gets interviewed

What with 'Dead Things' on Thursday, followed by Angel [also Scrubs, which is kinda alright], The Buffathon on Friday, rerun of 'Dead Things' on Saturday and then the 'Buffy meets..' and full on 'Bargaining I&II' on Sunday it looks like it's going to be a BtVS weekend, Kitties!
