Possible lesbian storyline on "Once and Again"

Apparently, in the States, Lifetime Network is re-broadcasting the GSA ep Friday evening. Would anyone who already taped the ep Mon for themselves be able to make me a tape of that? Happy to pay and cover all postage, blank tape, etc. I mistaknly taped Queer as Folk instead of O & A, if you can believe it. Thanks.

"Once & Again" Girl Kiss Yanked

In a move protested by gay-rights groups, a Virginia ABC affiliate has said "never again" to an episode of Once and Again, which featured a kiss between two teen girls.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is urging members to voice their complaints to Roanoke and Lynchburg-based station WSET-TV, after the affiliate yanked Monday night's episode. Titled "The Gay-Straight Alliance," the installment featured Jessie Sammler (played by Evan Rachel Wood) confronting feelings toward her friend Katie. The two eventually pucker up.

For its part, WSET wasn't saying why it preempted the show. Instead, the station aired an hour's worth of infomercials, and viewers who emailed in to complain were told the episode would not be airing.

GLAAD says it's a simple matter of discrimination, and it's asking the station to run the episode.

"It's clear to us it's simply fear and homophobia in the minds and hearts of the programmers," GLAAD spokesman Scott Seomin tells the Associated Press.

ABC said WSET was the only station to pull Monday night's episode, adding that affiliates have the right to air what they want. (For another example, witness the aversion to Bill Maher's Politically Incorrect displayed by ABC's Washington, D.C., affiliate WJLA.)

Unlike Politically Incorrect, this has been the first major controversy to surround an episode of Once and Again--and frankly, the show could use the publicity. Once again, the romantic drama, starring Sela Ward and Billy Campbell, is the subject of more rabid "Save Our Show" campaigns. And despite three years of critical acclaim and endless hype about "the best show you're not watching," lackluster ratings may put Once and Again down for good.

Interestingly enough, the show just got a boost by its recent move to Monday nights. This week, it actually won its time period. And if the series continues to fare well in its new home, Once and Again may avoid death. Again.

That's good news, the more people are confronted with homosexuality and made aware of its normality and the fact that is it neither "evil", "wrong" or "perverse", the better the world we live in...

Anyone thought that kiss was shown very much like those of Willow and Tara? Sweet and gentle... Hopefully Buffy's portrayal of W/T will inspire more writers to approach this subject with dignity...

Anyhow, I'm happy.

Thanks for posting that article. I'm SO glad that Once and Again won its ratings spot on Monday. Maybe it'll show writers that the Jessie/Katie story line attracts viewers! And I'm also glad that something good is coming out of this stupid controversy with that tv station. I guess they're helping more than they doing damage, so good for them. I hope this publicity helps!

Neither my Tivo nor my cable is giving the episode summary for tonight's show but the episode that's on 3/18 on ABC is to be reshown on 3/22 on Lifetime so I'd say that tonight is the Gay/Straight Alliance episode.

Just saw the repeat of the episode on Lifetime. Wow! I liked it a lot. The whole thing was very touching, and boy has that actress grown up. I watched the first couple of eps of the first season and then I stopped because I can't stand Sela Ward or her character (sorry to those who feel different). I would love to watch a show with just the kids. Can any of the regular viewers tell me if this kid centric ep was a one time thing or have their storylines received moe play this year. Also, are there even that many eps left, or is the show headed for cancellation?

I've actually been watching Conan all this week but totally missed that joke! It was probably the 2 nights that I missed the monologue.
And I watched the episode again last night on Lifetime for like the thousandth time. I taped it again because I'm watching it SO much I was afraid that I'd wear my other tape down! And I was just thinking about a few things. I didn't really realize that Grace was actually being really cool about the whole idea of Jessie and Katie. Its probably just like she said, because she feels like Jessie's lucky to be able to be in love with Katie.
And one other thing totally hit me! THE GAY STRAIT ALLIANCE DANCE!! are they actually going to have the dance? because they were making such a big deal out of it that it seems like they are. and if so, will Katie and Jessie go? Will they go together? so many questions!!

Oh and Ted Koppel is a news anchor.

I was wondering about the Gay-Straight Dance as well, but it doesn't look likely. I've been reading some brief, not-really-spoilery ep summaries for the remaining episodes, and Mischa Barton isn't even listed as being in the next 2(or maybe even 3) coming eps--this scares me! I want to see some resolution of this storyline if the show does, in fact, get cancelled.

I'm with Retread in looking for a copy of the Once & Again episode. Looks like channel seven has replaced O&A with 'Inspector Morse' *rollseyes* so we won't be getting that episode any time soon. I'd pay for everything, but anyone??

I totally agree that episodes featuring the kids tend to be much more compelling than the adult-focused episodes. Evan Rachel Wood and Julia Whelan are incredible.

Because Once and Again has such a large cast, they tend to switch focus from week to week. Jessie/Katie may not even get a mention in this Monday's episode--which would definitely suck--but watch anyway! The show is in danger of cancellation and only has five new episodes left. O&A needs all the viewer support it can get.

The next two episodes (on March 18 and 25) look to be adult-focused episodes. Mischa Barton isn't scheduled to appear until April 1 in 'Experience is the Teacher.'

Wow I had no idea that there were only five episodes left, that's not much time to resolve all the issues that ALL the characters have. Is there any chance that ABC could renew the show for even a couple more episodes. I mean I read (somewhere) that they cut the contract from around 22 to 17-ish episodes. Is there any chance they could add a few more episodes onto the contract.
