The Prime Gig

DO NOT POST - Backup in Progress

The Prime Gig

Postby Eric tr* » Sat Feb 16, 2002 12:57 am

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks and finally decided to come out and register. For my first official post, I wanted to review a movie of Amber's that just came out on video, "The Prime Gig".

The movie is about a group of telemarketers scamming to make money. There's more to it, but the film was so horrible that I'm not going to bother with the details. I will talk about Amber's character, however. She plays a character nicknamed 'Batgirl' (because when she's selling to customers over the phone she beats them up verbally until they give in). The upside to here character is that she's kind of funny and weird (especially when she's selling product over the phone). The downside is that she's barely in the movie. She has about 4 speaking lines as well as a few times shes speaking with a group of people. The rest of the time you can only see her in the background. It's a shame that her screentime is so limited because her scenes are the best in the film! (Ok, I'll admit it. I could watch of movie of her just staring at grass grow and still love the film.) If someone edited out all of the non-Amber scenes the film would be improved tenfold.

Sorry this is kind of a crappy review but I'm tired and just about to go to bed. Hope you liked the review!

even with your awesome review of the film, I think I have to see it just because of Amber. Was it really that bad?

I was able to order the DVD today from Amazon.com and they were saying it was typically shipping in 24 hours. So, it's apparently out there now.

Yep, it was pretty bad shellybean. I only reccommend this movie if you really want to see Amber in it even if you barely see much of her at all.

i just rented the Prime Gig tonight. i loved Amber as Batgirl! (anything she's in actually) she had cool clothes, cool hair, well, everything abt her was total coolness! there were even two lines she did offscreen and i knew it was her. even when her back was facing the camera, you can tell it was our Amber! if you just wanna see her, she'll appear probably after 30 minutes of viewing, her scenes are pretty brief but cute. whoo hoo! go Amber!

as for the movie itself, not bad. i kinda liked it coz there's that afterthought you wanna share with people who watched. cheers and peace!

I don't suppose anyone who's got the DVD could post some screencaps?

I rented The Anniversary Party over the weekend (don't bother, unless--like me--you get a weird thrill from seeing Jennifer Jason Leigh and Phoebe Cates together onscreen again, 20 years after Fast Times at Ridgemont High) and there was a promo for the video/DVD of The Prime Gig...there was a flash of Amber, doing the "sexy" thing as seen above, for about half a second...and I was compelled to to frame-by-frame my way through it.

I think I need a girlfriend.

EW gave it a good review. No mention of Amber, but it's interesting to read what's at the end.

A faint existential chill accompanies the hardball sales pitch of ace phone hustler Pendelton "Penny" Wise (Vince Vaughn), who solicits high-end investors for a vaguely shady entrepreneur (Ed Harris), while dallying after hours with the boss' girlfriend (Julia Ormond). There's never much doubt that Penny's gotten caught up in a cutthroat con game - but that's just a framework for the coolly absorbing portrait of a callous "closer" who only loses his edge when he rediscovers his soul. Curiously, the film never got a full-blown theatrical release, despite the presence of multiple-Oscar nominee Harris. These days, not even the "indies" seem to know a good thing when they've got one.B+ - Michael Sauter
