Songs that remind us of W/T

...of Willow and Tara. I know i posted a thread like this before but i can't find it. And i thought of a song that reminded me a lot of Willow and Tara and the...situation that they are in now.

It's Phil Collins: Against all odds.

How can i just let you walk away,
Just let you leave without a trace.
When i stand here taking every breath,
With you, ooh.
You're the only one,
Who really knew me at all.

How can you just walk away from me,
When all i can do is watch you leave.
'Cos we've shared the laughter and the pain,
And even shared the tears.
You're the only,
One who really knew me at all.

So take a look at me now,
'Cos there's just an empty space.
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
Just the memory of your face.
Take a look at me now,
'Cos there's just an empty space.
And you coming back to me is against the odds,
And that's what i've got to face.

I wish i could just make you turn around,
Turn around see me cry.
There's so much i need to say to you,
So many reasons why.
You're the only one,
Who really knew me at all.

So take a look at me now,
'Cos there's just an empty space.
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
Just the memory of your face.
Take a look at me now,
'Cos there's just an empty space.
But to wait for you, is all i can do,
and that's what i've got to face.
Take a good look at me now,
'Cos i'll still be standing here.
And you coming back to me, is against all odds,
That's the chance i've got to face, oh, oho.

One song reminds me most of W/T. Unfortunately it's a german song - from Herbert Grönemeyer. My fellow germans can understand it, maybe some other people also speak german.

Ich dreh mich um Dich
----------------------

Was keiner weiß,
find ich für dich raus,
aus jedem Labyrinth,
aus jeder Erpressung lös ich dich aus,
beseitige jeden Fluch,
lots dich durchs tiefste Tal,
schneid dich vom Marterpfahl

Ich dreh mich um dich
stell mich vor den bösen Blick,
deine Tränen werde ich übernehmen,
alle Qualen und Foltern überstehn

auch wenn du greinst
du dich kasteist,
und wenn du haderst,
du dich zerreißt,
wenn sich alles verdunkelt
bring ich dich durch die Nacht

Well, this is the song that reminds me of my boyf so therefore a) I kinda think it fits any couple and b) I think it's the most romantic song ever.

Stay Together: Suede
(Anderson/Butler)

Come to my house tonight
We can be together in the nuclear sky
And we will dance in the poison rain
And we can stay a while in Heaven today

Let's stay together
Let's stay, these days are ours
Let's stay together,
Two hearts under the skyscrapers.

Come to my arms tonight
Just you and me together under electric light
And she will dance in the poison air
And we can stay together
Two hearts under the skyscrapers

There's a time bomb in the high rise
There's a blue suburban dream
Will I see you up in Paradise
Or have you come to catch me?

Come to my arms I'm lost
Just you and me together in the year of the horse
Single file in the nuclear night
And we could feel a little closer
As we tumble through the sky

Let's stay together, let's stay these days are ours
Let's stay together
Two hearts under a skyscraper
Let's stay together, let's stay these days and nights
Let's stay together, two hearts under the skyscrapers.

Wibbling off into romantic fantasy land,

Well, since I'm feeling all sentimental today, and since this is a thread which encourages sentimentality, this is a song called 'You Mean Everything to me' off the album 'Soul's Core' by Shawn Mullins. Shawn is my favourite solo singer EVER and I encourage everyone to go buy every album he's ever made, okay?

I've been on the road too long
and I've been stuck inside a song
and you know our love has been
through rougher weather
but our passion's like a rose
the seasons tell it how it grows
and not much compares
to the times we've shared together
'cause love heals everything
we're no exception to the rule
you mean everything to me.

So if there's anything at all,
all you've got to do is call
and you know that I would
drive 10,000 miles
just to show you that I care
just to kiss your honey hair
and pull you close and hold you
like a child
love heals everything
we're no exception to that rule
you mean everything
you mean everything
you mean everything to me.

Excuse me, I think I have to fetch my hanky....sob

'Thank You' by Dido. Can't remember the words, but it's a hell of a song. Something about the house falling down (hey, garden shed people) and it not mattering because you're loved...sigh...

Songs that remind us of W/T

I have to admit that in a weird sort of way, "The Christians and the Pagans" by Dar Williams makes me think of 'em. (And not because one of the characters in the song is named Amber.) Probably because it makes me think about Tara's family, and wishing they didn't have that attitude toward her witchcraft. This song is usually my sort of "live Yule greeting card" every year.

Amber called her uncle, said "We're up here for the holiday,
Jane and I were having Solstice, now we need a place to stay."
And her Christ-loving uncle watched his wife hang Mary on a tree,
He watched his son hang candy canes all made with red dye number three.
He told his niece, "It's Christmas Eve, I know our life is not your style,"
She said, "Christmas is like Solstice, and we miss you, and it's been a while."

So the Christians and the pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able.
Just before the meal was served, hands were held and prayers were said,
Sending hope for peace on earth to all their gods and goddesses.

The food was great, the tree plugged in, the meal had gone without a hitch
'Till Timmy turned to Amber and said, "Is it true that you're a witch?"
His mom jumped up and said, "The pies are burning," and she hit the kitchen,
And it was Jane who spoke, she said, "It's true your cousin's not a Christian,
But we love trees, we love the snow, the friends we have, the world we share,
And you find magic from your God, and we find magic everywhere."

So the Christians and the pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able.
And where does magic come from? I think magic's in the learning,
'Cause now when Christians sit with pagans, only pumpkin pies are burning.

When Amber tried to do the dishes her aunt said, "Really, no, don't bother,"
Amber's uncle saw how Amber looked like Tim and like her father.
He thought about his brother, how they hadn't spoken in a year,
He thought he'd call him up and say, "It's Christmas and your daughter's here."
He thought of fathers, sons, and brothers, saw his own son tug his sleeve,
Saying, "Can I be a pagan?" Dad said, "We'll discuss it when they leave."

So the Christians and the pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able,
Lighting trees in darkness, learning new ways from the old,
And making sense of history, and drawing warmth out of the cold.

ahem... i think Willow & Tara are affecting my job. and since i'm a music writer, i'll let you guess in which ways;-)

there's lots of songs that remind me of them. lots of lots of songs! in the situation they are living now, "Red" by Elbow is just perfect. according to Elbow's singer Guy Garvey, the song is about being in love with someone with a mental disorder.

in more general terms...i've always thought that Lamb's "Gold", or Ben Christophers' "Give Me Everything", or Archive's "You Make Me Feel" are great too...
i'll post the lyrics if anyone's interested...

Ain't No Sunshine--Bill Withers

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's always gone too long
Anytime she goes away

Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away

And I know, I know...

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Only darkness every day
There ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away

This is a little obvious, but Annie Lennox did "Love Song For A Vampire" in the film Bram Stoker's Dracula, which has always gotten to me:

Come into these arms again,
And lay your body down.
The rhythm of this trembling heart
Is beating like a drum--

It beats for you!
It bleeds for you!
It knows not how it sounds.
For it is the Drum of Drums
It is the Song of Songs!

Once I had the rarest rose
That ever deigned to bloom.
Cruel winter chilled the bud
And stole my flower too soon...

O hopelessness! O loneliness!
To search the ends of time!
For there is in all the world,
No greater love than mine!

Let me be the only one
To keep you from the cold!
Now the floor of hell is laid,
With stars of brightest gold!

They shine for you!
They shine for you!
They burn for all to see...
Come into these arms again,
And set this spirit free.

The resident Broadway fanatic reporting in..."Not While I'm Around" from the musical Sweeney Todd is absolutely perfect for Will/Tara or, actually, any couple on BtVS. Here's lyrics...
Not to worry, not to worry,
I may not be smart but I ain't dumb.
Let me do it, put me to it,
Show me something I can overcome.
Not to worry, chum.

Nothing's gonna harm you,
Not while I'm around.
Nothing's gonna harm you, no sir,
Not while I'm around.

Demons are prowling everywhere,
Nowadays.
I'll send 'em howling, I don't care,
I got ways.

No one's gonna hurt you,
No one's gonna dare.
Others can desert you
Not to worry, whistle, I'll be there.

Demons'll charm you with a smile
For a while,
But in time, nothing can harm you,
Not while I'm around.

It loses something without the music, but until someone invents a way to type music, this is the best I can do.

Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic: Sting

Though I've tried before to tell her
Of the feelings I have for her in my heart
Every time that I come near her
I just lose my nerve
As I've done from the start

Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on

Do I have to tell the story
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me that ends up getting wet

Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on

I resolve to call her up a thousand times a day
And ask her if she'll marry me in some old fashioned way
But my silent fears have gripped me
Long before I reach the phone
Long before my tongue has tripped me
Must I always be alone?

Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on

Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on

Every little thing
Every little thing

Look out, another Broadway one...some of you may hate me for this one...it's a bit more lighthearted than some of the others in this thread. I figure when Willow and Tara came out, they probably got some grief from both people they knew and people they didn't, so..."I Loved You Once in Silence" from Camelot.

I loved you once in silence,
And mis'ry was all I knew;
Trying so to keep my love from showing,
All the while not knowing
You loved me too.

Yes, loved me in lonesome silence;
Your heart filled with dark despair.
Thinking love would flame in you forever,
And I'd never, never know
The flame was there.

Then one day we cast away our secret longing;
The raging tide we held inside would hold no more.
The silence at last was broken!
We flung wide our prison door.
Every joyous word of love was spoken.

And now there's twice as much grief,
Twice the strain for us;
Twice the despair, twice the pain for us
As we had known before.

Remember, I'm not saying Will and Tara aren't happy or anything, I just found this appropriate.

Teeny nitpick... "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" was by the Police, before they broke up, not Sting solo.

A song (one of my favorites, in fact) that reminds me of Willow and Tara is "Go Coastal" by Velocity Girl (I haven't bought a new album yet this year, though, so I'm thoroughly stuck in the past ) (although now that I've typed it in, I'm discovering that it more reminds me of them back before they were thoroughly involved)

Let's drive away
My day's wide open
And in my heart
I'll let you ride shotgun
I love the way
You look at me sideways
If you don't mind
I'll stare at you straight on

C'mon let's go
You bring your fallen angel
You know I'll bring mine
I wanna know, precisely
Is it just a matter of time
'Til you realize
I would drive you anyplace
And I would go anywhere
If you promise to be there

What can I learn
From your graceful tantrums
I want to be
More than a witness
Set back the time
Follow the northern line
I've got it wrong
You always get it right

C'mon let's go
You bring your fallen angel
You know I'll bring mine
I wanna know, precisely
Is it just a matter of time
'Til you realize
I would drive you anyplace
And I would go anywhere
If you promise to be there

Don't know why
It's gotta be
You're to lost to follow me
And you're to shy
To wanna see that you're the
Sountrack to my scenery
The noise that fills my head at night
Could you ever dream of me
In that light?

(edited to add the rest of the song... stupid IE... and a small woohoo! that I am now a Cool Monster Fighter!)

Since we're on a Broadway kick . . .

For those of us who just love the soulmates angle (yes, I apply this song to X and G also) there's "The Origin of Love" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch (*nods to Xie*). Well, okay, so it's off-Broadway, but still. This musical rocks, people.

When the earth was still flat and the clouds made of fire
And mountains stretched up to the sky, sometimes higher
Folks roamed the earth like big rolling kegs
They had two sets of arms, they had two sets of legs
They had two faces peering out of one giant head
So they could watch all around them
As they talked, while they read
And they never knew nothing of love
This was before the origin of love

Now there were three sexes then, one that looked
Like two men glued up back to back
They were called the children of the sun
And similar in shape and girth were the children of the earth
They looked like two girls rolled up in one
And the children of the moon looked like a fork shoved on a spoon
They were part sun, part earth, part daughter, part son

It's the origin of love

Now the gods grew quite scared of our strength and defiance
And Thor said, "I'm gonna kill 'em all with my hammer,
Like I killed the giants." But Zeus said,
"No, you better let me use my lightning like scissors
Like I cut the legs off the whales, dinosaurs into lizards."
And then he grabbed up some bolts and he let out a laugh,
Said, "I'll split them right down the middle,
Gonna cut 'em right up in half."
And then storm clouds gathered above
Into great balls of fire

And then fire shot down from the sky in bolts
Like shining blades of a knife
And it ripped right through the flesh
Of the children of the sun and the moon and the earth
And some Indian god sewed the wound up into a hole,
Pulled it round to our bellies to remind us the price we paid
And Osiris and the gods of the Nile gathered up a big storm
To blow a hurricane
To scatter us away
In a flood of wind and rain
A sea of tidal waves
To wash us all away
And if we don't behave
They'll cut us down again
And we'll be hopping 'round on one foot
And looking through one eye

The last time I saw you, we had just split in two
You were looking at me, I was looking at you
You had a way so familiar but I could not recognize
'Cause you had blood on your face, I had blood in my eyes
But I could swear by your expression that the pain down in your soul
Was the same as the one down in mine
That's the pain--it cuts a straight line down through the heart
And we called it love
So we wrapped our arms around each other
Tried to shove ourselves back together
We were making love
Making love

It was a cold dark evening such a long time ago
When by the mighty hand of Jove
It was the sad story, how we became lonely two-legged creatures
It's the story of the origin of love
The origin of love

I'm glad someone brought this up, 'cause since "Tough love" I've been thinking that this song is so fitting (the fact that I'm a major IG fan has nothing at all to do with it - lol!). Two parts of this song make it very Willow/Tara apt "so we're okay, we're fine,
baby i'm here to stop your crying - chase all the ghosts from your head" and the wonderful line "adding up the total of a love that's true, multiply life by the power of two". I think the song title has kind of magical / mystical significance too!

Power of Two by Indigo Girls (full lyrics)

now the parking lot is empty
everyone's gone someplace
i pick you up and in the trunk i've packed
a cooler and a 2-day suitcase
cause there's a place we like to drive
way out in the country
five miles out of the city limit we're singing
and your hand's upon my knee

so we're okay
we're fine
baby i'm here to stop your crying
chase all the ghosts from your head
i'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
smarter than the tricks played on your heart
we'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
adding up the total of a love that's true
multiply life by the power of two

you know the things that i am afraid of
i'm not afraid to tell
and if we ever leave a legacy
it's that we loved each other well
cause i've seen the shadows of so many people
trying on the treasures of youth
but a road that fancy and fast
ends in a fatal crash
and i'm glad we got off
to tell you the truth

cause we're okay
we're fine
baby i'm here to stop your crying
chase all the ghosts from your head
i'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
smarter than the tricks played on your heart
we'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
adding up the total of a love that's true
multiply life by the power of two

all the shiny little trinkets of temptation
(make new friends)
something new instead of something old
(but keep the old)
all you gotta do is scratch beneath the surface
(but remember what is gold)
and it's fools gold
(what is gold)
fools gold
(what is gold)
fools gold

now we're talking about a difficult thing
and your eyes are getting wet
i took us for better and i took us for worse
don't you ever forget it
now the steel bars between me and a promise
suddenly bend with ease
the closer i'm bound in love to you
the closer i am to free

so we're okay
we're fine
baby i'm here to stop your crying
chase all the ghosts from your head
i'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
smarter than the tricks played on your heart
we'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
adding up the total of a love that's true
multiply life by the power of two

Mmmmmmm . . . Indigo Girls . . . "Power of Two." That song has been on my mind so much since "Tough Love" aired. Working on a bit of songfic too, using that one . . .

And now, because drat you people, I'm on a roll and still on a "soulmates" kick, one of my favorite songs by the Nields . . .

One Hundred Names
by Nerissa Nields

I have known you all my life;
In fact, I knew you long before
A hundred years or so of you
And all I want from you is more
Sometimes I don't know who you are
Sometimes I don't know why you stay
All I know is when I called, you came
I have known you by one hundred names.

You're the sunshine on my floor
You're the book I've halfway read
You're the smile a stranger gave
You're the blessing someone said
You're my favorite cowboy song
Echoed aching at sunset
Sung together round a fire on the Plains
I have known you by one hundred names.

They say I lean on you too much
They say I'll never stand alone
But how can they know what it's like
To live with you inside our home
You make me grateful for the grey
You make me grateful for the blue
Every morning you love me just the same

Love "Power of Two" (Indigo Girls ROCK!)

Just to be different, how about "I Could Not Ask For More" by Edwin McCain. Beautiful song.

Lying here with you
Listening to the rain
Smiling just to see the smile upon your face
These are the moments I thank God that I'm alive
These are the moments I'll remember all my life
I found all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more

Looking in your eyes
Seeing all I need
Everything you are is everything to me
These are the moments I know heaven must exist
These are the moments I know all I need is this
I have all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more

Chorus
I could not ask for more than this time together
I could not ask for more than this time with you
Every prayer has been answered
Every dream I have's come true
And right here in this moment is right where I'm meant to be
Here with you here with me

These are the moments I thank God that I'm alive
These are the moments I'll remember all my life
I've got all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more

Chorus

I could not ask for more than the love you give me
'Coz it's all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more
I could not ask for more

this is the song i listened most when i met my gf. it's perfect when you're in love, that's why i think it suits very well to willow and tara...

Nobody Like You
Inside it harbours
Desire bruises my skin
So near I'm hungry
I'd like to have more
In control, I've lost it
l'd like to try it again
It warms inside me
We're moving one step closer each time

There's nobody like you
Nobody like you
Nobody like you
Nobody like you anyway, oh anyway
There's nobody like you
Nobody like you
Nobody can touch you
Nobody like you anyway oh anyway
Everyone knows

We fall, slow motion
I taste your breath in my veins
Like waves, vibrations
It's coming up again
Let me climb inside you
Caress your fever tongue
Spread my wings around you
And we can slide

There's nobody like you
Nobody like you
Nobody like you
Nobody like you anyway, oh anyway
There's nobody like you
Nobody like you
Nobody can touch you
Nobody like you anyway oh anyway
Everyone knows

I've always craved
I tried to feed the hunger of an empty grave
You've shown me secrets I've not forgotten
l'll give you all the love that I take
That I take

Inside it harbours
Desire bruises my skin
So near I'm hungry
We're moving one step closer each time

There's nobody like you
Nobody like you
Nobody like you
Nobody like you anyway, oh anyway
There's nobody like you
Nobody like you
Nobody can touch you
Nobody like you anyway oh anyway

There's nobody like you
Can you can you can
There's nobody like you
Can you can you can
There's nobody like you
Can you can you can

and also, only for the record, i can't forget "world before columbus", suzanne vega, but i decided to change my standart answer to this question .

Your right Dennis, "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" was released by the Police but I believe it was written by Sting. quote:

While I agree with Wyrd One that the "Nothing's Gonna Harm You" is pretty perfect, I would choose that one for the more comfort/sweet scenes.

I would put "So It Shall Be" with the heavier, lovier stuff.

SO IT SHALL BE
Shadows Now curtain the moon
But faith swears
It will shine again soon
Shine with love
You've been hiding from me
Your kiss
Has hindered my day
A longing
That won't go away
You just keep knocking
And waking my heart
Like daylight chasing the dark
I can exist being caught by your kiss
Willingly
Or grant you control
Of my body and soul
Ask it and so it shall be

Shadows
Now curtain the moon
Still faith swears
It will shine again soon
Shine with love
You've been hiding from me
With that love
You've been hiding from me

I can exist
Being caught by your kiss
Willingly
Or grant you control of my body and soul
Ask it and so it shall be
Ask it and so it shall be

Hmmm. I have weird songs to remember love by. Once it was 'Stop' by the Spice Girls...don't ask me why....
