glaad awards presented last night

I didn't see anything on the glaad.org site yet but picked up this information from some Reuters reports of last night's events.

If you are wondering about glaad: The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards honor individuals and projects in the media and entertainment industries for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender people and the issues that affect their lives.

I'm really not familiar with [i:5f292d0487] Six Feet Under[/i:5f292d0487]. How much of a gay plot is there on that show?

Kalita, the 'gay plot' as you call it, on 'Six Feet Under', is (and I hope no one will yell at me for this... but it's kinda true), much larger on SFU than on BtVS. SFU is based around the lives of the Fisher family, who own and run a funeral home. The two sons, Nate and David, take on most of the responsibility of the home and are arguably the show's two leading protagonists. David is gay, but struggling to accept it, he is out to his family, and they are very accepting of him.... however the conflict resides in the fact that David's family are more accepting of David's homosexuality than he actually is himself. His plot is much more central to the core of what SFU is as a show as compared to W/T on BtVS, so it is probably more 'deserving' of the kind of awards that GLAAD likes to give out

If they had a cutest couple category, than i think we all know who would win that

I dunno scoobiedo, from your description it sounds like Buffy should have won with a landslide. Here we have WT, two *happy* lesbians in love, makes a refreshing change from the depressing angst, it shows that being gay does not have to make you miserable. I guess I'd just like the positive to get some recognition.

Regarding the comic book:

I just went to the website, and it mentions the awards are split into three presentations: April 1st, April 13th, and June 1st. It also has complete lists of awards for the two April shows, and neither list the comic. I would assume from this that the comic award isn't given out until June. Here are links to:

Oh i totally agree with you Garfield... i was just trying to see it from GLAAD's perspective, who, to me at least, seem to have a depressing tendency to look favourably on things that fall under the "visibility at all costs" banner.

I so totally agree- It used to be (aside from a few rare exceptions) that the only homosexuals on TV were either psychopaths or as stereotyped as black actors from the 1920's, then we "progressed" to gay victims in every possible permutation, and finally, in recent years we got the sincere and monumental "after school special" type of roles filled with endless angst and emotional turmoil.

It's such a rare pleasure to see a happy, normal same-sex relationship.

"My heart doesn't stutter" comes from the W/T one shot comic. Amber wrote the comic and Terry Moore of Strangers in Paradise fame did the artwork. It's a very good comic, you should try to get your hands on a copy.

It would have been nice for BtVS to have won the award, but I do think SFU is a very good show and they portrayed coming Out very realistically imo, so good for them. The thing about HBO is that they can show so much more than they can on networks like upn, cbs, abc cbs, etc. On SFU there's many many gay love scenes that are pretty damn racy. Just last week they had full on naked sex between two men. I just wish they were allowed more freedom to show love scenes like that between Willow and Tara on Buffy, we know that Willow and Tara have steamy sex, how come we can't see it ? :(

not that I think the award should go to the show with the most explicit love scenes, it's just that they are allowed to discuss gay themes so much more candidly on HBO and Showtime.
