I don't know if this is the right spot or if I should have put this in the Spoiler Thread...sorry.

In reading the new issue of Sci-Fi magazine they have a section called [b:8b1cbe7889] tv in focus.[/b:8b1cbe7889] Buffy happens to be listed...and here is what it has to say:

[b:8b1cbe7889] Buffy the Vampire Slayer, UPN[/b:8b1cbe7889]
The only thing that's safe to say about the last few episodes of the show's sixth season is that Buffy probably won't die. However, besides that, all bets are off. "There's not much I can tell you except that a lot of things that have been put into motion this season are going to explode," said executive producer Marti Noxon. "I think the fans are sort of concerned, you know, what's the big bad this year? Where's the real menace? I think everybody's going to feel very satisfied about how everything comes into play."

Noxon also said they'll be a "sort of" cliffhanger for Buffy, which was given a two-season commitment when it moved to UPN this year. "I personally have really enjoyed this season. I think that we have played out the possibilities of big demon apocalypses, and how many times can this be the end of the world before you have people going, 'Yeah, whatever.' I just feel like the season, the stuff that's been going on, is a little more personal. We tried to shake it up this year and I've really enjoyed the episodes. I think we're going out on strong ones this season, and the last either or 10 episodes are really killers."

I too remember reading this somewhere else. It was either in the Buffy magazine or somewhere else. Regardless Marti really doesn't have a clue. If destroying all the characters beyond repair makes exciting tv viewing than Marti would be right. However, as well all know this isn't the case and exciting is one word a would not use to describe this season. Crap is more likely the correct word that comes to my mind.

I just want to reiterate that Joss makes the final decisions. Joss alienates a lot of fans as well. It is as much his fault as it is hers.

I'm fully aware of Joss's involvement in the show. Joss, however, didn't give this interview, so I can't very well comment on his clever use of gallows humor, can I?

There is a line you know , it's like really thin, between saying I really hate what ME have done and saying ME sucks. I don't know waht their issues are and why they are destroying their show and spitting on the fans. No bashing really and I know sometimes things are jokes, but even those when repeated too often become meaningless.

Reading this again just reinforces my opinion that Marti does not dwell in the same dimension as the rest of us. It's beyond me how she can think we'll be pleased. It's actually almost funny to me how absurd that notion is. And she said [i:182e0d285f] twice[/i:182e0d285f] in that bitty little snippet that she's enjoyed this season. I wonder what this season has been like in her dimension that she's so pleased with it. The MartiVerse eps must have skipped "Doublemeat Palace."

And, remember the one where she talked about the B/A shippers and how wrong Spuffy is, etc.? Xita just mentioned it on the main spoiler thread. Marti just oozes contempt for B/A and B/S shippers in that one. Now, what are the two most popular ships? If she, or anyone for that matter, doesn't like a ship or thinks it's unhealthy or unrealistic or whatever, fine, say so. But don't insult the people who like those ships. (I quit watching the show for a while because I hated B/A so much and, while I actually think Buffy and Spike could be good together, it is not a healthy relationship as written.)

I don't mean to vilify Marti. I really don't. Because she's written some good stuff. And also because I really really really want to see a woman successfully producing TV series. But she honestly doesn't seem to understand the fans.

I'm [i:182e0d285f] very[/i:182e0d285f] interested to see what she, Joss, the writers, and the cast members will have to say to the public and fandom once all this season's eps have aired.

OK, wait a minute, I can't let that stand. I'm an NRA member and I love Willow and Tara. Responsible firearm owners don't go around murdering people and I somehow suspect that Warren doesn't have an "NRA Life Member" jacket in his closet.
Didn't mean to offend, but this is an open forum and I was just defending my organization, Not Warren by any stretch of the imagination.
That's like these media clowns that, when they find out some killer served in the Marines, key in on that fact. There's a good reason why people like that are no longer on active duty; they're unstable, the Corps recognized that and marked them unsuitable for reenlistment. I've seen it hapen more than once.
OK, mini-rant.
Wilow and Tara forever.

Gallows humour? That reminds me am I supposed to be brinnging the rope or just some nails?

I'm sure my marine buddy will correct me if iget this wrong but I believe there is a miltary expression about officers 'being promoted to the level of their incompetence'. That seems like what has happened with Marti, she was a good writer, an ok producer, but a bad exec producer. She can't see the big picture, she looks at each script and thinks how cool it is without thinking what sort of overall arc she is creating. Yes Buffy need dark episodes, but the fans need a payoff at the end, even Buffy's death last year was sad, but not really gloomy, this was someone who had decided (to borrow from another universe) 'Today is good day to die'. And it was tempered by the reunitiing of Willow and Tara, Spikes nobility, and Xnader and Anya taking their relationship forward. What do we get this year? Pain.

I think this article illustrates something that I, personally, find extremely frustrating.

This show is angsty. It has always BEEN angsty. But the enjoyment the majority of the fans get from this show is in the triumph. The moments when the Scoobies dig deeper and pull it off, despite how grim and bleak everything is -- THOSE are the moments that make the show worth watching.

The angst has always been a means to that triumphant end.

This article makes Marti come off as believing that the angst is the end in and of itself ... and that's why it's so objectionable.

I have no idea if that's what Marti actually believes, or if she's being all 'Ra Ra' about the show for the interview ... but if it's what she truly thinks, I'm worried about the finale.

But I'm hoping that she knows something we don't know, and that's why she says we'll be okay with the finale ... I can forgive her for believing that we'd like the Ancient Aztec Heart Extracting Pain of Tara Dying, as long as they FIX it.

But if they don't, then I'm sorry, Marti needs to re-evaluate what made the previous seasons good. Because it wasn't All Angst All The Time.

Marine Wicca, I was joking. Doing that thing I find myself doing rather a lot lately, you know, finding humor in really inappropriate things. I'm from the UK, and guns are not available to the general public over there, so I guess I find the whole NRA thing a little daunting. Besides, my final point, guns are really only made for one thing aren't they? And owning a weapon...I guess I don't understand that.

Sorry if I offended.

I wonder if Marti is hung up on Becoming? That was a very gloomy ending and yet eventually things were made right. but not till the next season, could she be trying to recreate that, and Becoming was sort of a cliffhanger as well.

You got the expression right on the money, and I tend to agree. I once posted that this show was really about the process of growing up and all the angst, tragedy and triumph that go with it. The demons are really metaphorical and all that. What I DIDN'T say is that it was supposed to be ALL angst and tradgedy. There is not one happy character on this show now, except possibly Miss Kitty Fantastico (where is she?). Oh, wait, I know, she got run over by the truck delivering meat to the Doublemeat Palace. What, Marti, you didn't think of that one? Don't worry, you will. I'm still trying to figure out what they're going to do in season 7. It can't get much darker than this, that's for sure.
Series Finale:The CIA really DOES find out about Sunnydale, notifies the President, who orders the Pentagon to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike, which opens the Hellmouth, reanimates the Master and vampires/demons take over the world.
Maybe Marti and Joss will get their Emmy then.
Boy, that post ended a lot darker than it started.
Willow: (paraphrase) "Well, when I'm with a girl I like I can't say anything cool or witty. Mostly, I make a few vowel sounds and then I have to go away"

Not at all, if anything, I overreacted. And yes, you're right, firearms are made for one purpose, to kill. My take, and I promise not to lecture, especially since we come from two completely different cultures, is that it is the God given right of every person to defend themselves and their families. Be it done with a firearm, a sword or a pizza pan. (saw that last one done in a bar once...funny) Anyway, I have no doubt that if someone came into my home and theatened my family (I have two beautiful daughters and a lovely wife) that I would shoot that individual to eliminate the threat if I had to. It's what fathers do, mothers to, defend what is dear to them.
You know, that's the beauty of this old world; everybody has their own opinon on things. Be pretty boring otherwise.
Still friends?
