A list of ME's comments on Tara's death

Postby Iamyouknowyours » Thu Jun 13, 2002 11:25 pm

I don't know if you wanna close this, but I'm trying to find all of the writers lies before the death and insensitivities to W/T fans after her death. My personal letter writing campain is going to begin, and I want as much info as possible so that I can present ME, UPNand FOX, etc. with more than just an angry rant. I'm having trouble finding them, so I was wondering if people would be willing to put the links in one thread here. Thanks.

Otherwise, could you e-mail me the links at Eltonsgod@aol.com

A list of ME's comments on Tara's death

Here's the article from the August 2001 issue of Out magazine. It's on the Willow's Room site.

www.intercoast.com.au/wr/interview1.html

Joss said, when interviewed for that article, "Next year...shit's gonna go down. We're going to see more strength in Willow than we have before. Her relationship with Tara will continue----but the course of true love is never easy."

He also stated, "We do have a bunch of people saying we've changed their lives. I always want to put out good role models. But I wasn't there saying, 'I want to help gay teenagers be comfortable with themselves.' We talked about the idea of college as being a place where people expand their sexuality or discover their sexuality. Then Seth Green decided he didn't want to do the show anymore. That's when [Willow's sexuality] blossomed into full womanhood. To get these responses was wonderfully overwhelming. It turned out to be one of the most important things we've done on the show."

Well, he recognizes that Willow and Tara are gay role models (even though it was unintentional) and that their storyline is one of the most important things they've ever done... well it's a good thing he ruined all that. Who needs positive gay role models when we can watch homicidal rapists have their soul returned and get chance after chance to be redeemed. Ya know, Spike is the [i:ce85f194ea]real[/i:ce85f194ea] heart of the show. Isn't it ironic that Spike's heart doesn't even beat...

In a round about way, Joss has said that he has killed one of the "most important things the show has ever done" and he has killed the "heart of the show". Either that was his intention or those statements are bullshit conjured up to make Tara's death more surprising. I guess that makes him either an idiot or an asshole.

*fade to Joss....[/i:4bf8b66fb7]

"Oh What?!? No wait. You think...Tara dead...? Pffftt No way! You see, we knew everyone out there loves Tara and the loving relationship she shares with Willow. We just wanted to give our audience some of our crack-filled angst, give them what they [i:4bf8b66fb7] need[/i:4bf8b66fb7] and not what they [i:4bf8b66fb7] want[/i:4bf8b66fb7]. In the end we deliver our promises. Amber's not going anywhere. It may seem like the worst just happened but fear not. Basically expect an old friend to beam himself back to Sunnydale and fix a rip in their time dimention that was caused by a then unknown force when Willow broke that yellow crayon. Hahaha, you know Will, even then dark majicks were brewing and she inadvertently sent out dark energies to that wee little crayon. So the rip gets fixed but not before preventing some actions that had ultimately led up to Tara's supposed death....besides, we wanted to give good ol' Steve a little scare when he answered rumors of Tara's death with, 'Over by dead body'. God it was fun watching him squirm."

[i:4bf8b66fb7] *tk snaps out of it...[/i:4bf8b66fb7]
Oh wait..that [i:4bf8b66fb7] was[/i:4bf8b66fb7] a dream... GrrArgg ... [i:4bf8b66fb7] *mumblemumblefuckheadsmumble*[/i:4bf8b66fb7] >:
Sorry, needed to let out some sarcasmy rant...

I'm beginning to think it's a little of both. He's rapidly developing a "Whedon clich," in which anything or anyone who's actually helpful, supportive, mature, etc., gets taken away in order to make the remaining heroes/anti-heroes suffer more.

Which is why I'm still saying Cordelia has only a 50-50 chance of surviving [i:00505a06ba] Angel[/i:00505a06ba] S4.

Bob,

You are not the first to bring up the idea of a "Whedon Clich" I saw something to very same effect on C&S a while back and then again on the Usenet.

So it is not just us that sees it.

Yes, life is hard Joss we get that. But sometimes you find a $20 in your pants that you forgot about, or the one true love of your life stays with you forever, or sometimes you get to redo your $10 million pilot because hey sometimes things go your way.

Warlock.

Oh look at that, I am "Gay Now". Maybe I should tell my wife...

nd don't forget that sometimes you get the power to run your own TV show, self-inserting so obviously that you'd never make it in fanfic! ;)
