Gah! I have been confused about what day it is all freaking week! I did work on Monday, but many others did not, thereby making it an uncharacteristically busy day, and then I did not work on Wednesday which made me think it was Saturday. And since Mrs. Leaf has morning classes on Thursday this semester, Thursday is no longer laundry day, and I have lost all my day of the week landmarks. On the bright side, now on Thursday mornings I get to stay in my jammies for a couple hours sipping coffee and reading fanfic. That is no bad thing, MKF.

I also realized this week what with all the inaugural excitement and coverage, that the past 8 year trauma has left me with a habit of physically flinching every time I hear the word "president." Anyone else find that too? It's like a nervous tick. I'm hoping some positive conditioning fixes that up for me soon.

I had a crappy that turned into a happy today, unlike gorn's happy-into-crappy. Although, it did sound like things ended on the happy for him, didn't it? My crappy was that upon arrival at work this afternoon, there was a 4 hour gap in my schedule. One client at the very beginning of my shift, and two at the very end. And a big heaping 4 hours in between where I have nothing to do and am not making any money. Crappy, yes? So I saw my first client, and had some lunch, and twiddled my thumbs a bit. But then! One of my co-workers is studying craniosacral therapy and needed to put some practice hours in, and I got to be her practice body. It was such a treat to get worked on myself (it's been waaaay too long. when my clients ask me how often I receive massage/bodywork I lie to them to try to set a good example. how bad is that?!). So, down time was well used, and sweet mary it was nice to be the one getting taken care of for a change.

I don't think there's any earth shaking Thursday nookie coming my way this time as Mrs. Leaf has had a bit of a stomach bug. But a night without barfing sounds pretty good too. Keeping hope alive here.

Night all!

slkdfj kd aijoermcv;, kdjo, moada.

It is morning. I am not coherent. I poured cream in my oj instead of my coffee, found the tie to my robe profoundly confusing and .... there was something else. The funniest one. I've forgotton.

Good grief, if I'm going to feel like this there should be whiskey involved, not just morning eye crusties and a growing suspicion that I'm getting sick.

But it's Thursday! (I know this because my computer tells me so) and coffee will surely make all things better.

A selection from my todo list today:

1) Seed more tomatoes and peppers
2) Purchase 2x4s to frame in endwalls
3) Call possible volunteer
4) Convince gf that both the term and the practice of "Thursday nookie" are important to me and she should learn to appreciate them out of respect to my Kitten cultural identity.
5) Email CSA flyer out
6) take several naps

Damn. A better Thursdaykateer would have some spiffy link or game to share. I sadly have none.
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.

I've never posted on the Thursday thread, so here I am, trying something new! I see that this particular thread was started on this date 5 years ago. Cool!
For me it's a busy day at work, and a friend is coming over for dinner and there's shopping to do for the weekend and...:deep breath: actually, I'm quite happy that it's Thursday.

This, MKF, is a beautiful thing. While the rest of us veterans get bogged down in our lives and our nookie, a sparkling new fresh set of eyes gazes upon Thursday ... and discovers the anniversary of this thread! We owe Redsbird our gratitude!

The Boschter lamented at the lack of a game in her post, so I will deliver! To the best of your remembrance, WHERE WERE YOU ON 1/29/04 AND WHAT WERE YOU PROBABLY DOING?

I was still in Japan, MKF. Of that I can be certain. End of January, though ... that's tough. Mrs. Gorn & I took a vacation to visit my family in California and spend a little time in Vegas (baby), but I can't remember if that was the end of January or if we actually did it in February. I'll have to confer with Mrs. Gorn and report back.

That was quite a good trip, though. We stayed at the Luxor, had a room way up at the top. Slanted walls, window looking out over the airport. Big open walk-in shower, no door or curtain - first time I'd ever seen that.

Wherever I was, it would be another three years before I'd discover the It's Just Thursday, MKF thread. Amazing to think there was a time in my life when I didn't know about this bestest of all threads.

Oh, and I'm having lasagna tonight! Woo hoo!!

The five year anniversary. Whaddya know. Thanks Redsbird!

Hmmmm... what was I up to then? Well, let's see. I was a homeowner, had only enough plants in my tiny yard to require weeding once a month, was still grinding through the tail end of an undergrad degree that took me 13 years to complete (there were many years off), and was still seeing my (now) ex. I probably spent most of the day on the web, searching for summer internship opportunities and perhaps part of the evening watching Buffy on DVD. Huh... seems like a lot longer ago than five years. Wow, things change. Or not - I think I'll go pull out some Buffy DVDs. :)

Hey! Where's maudmac? She's the founder, after all.

Okay... and on totally different topic:

Illinois? Illinois? What were you thinking electing that crazy boob?

Redsbird, how wonderful! What could be better than a Thursday anniversary!

Good game, gorn. So...5 years ago todayish...
Well, I was still living in Boston and it was the beginning of the last year of my official starving artisthood. I had my truly craptastic very first massage job in an excessively air conditioned glorified storage closet in the basement of a super smelly gym. I was also working part time at an eye doctor's office and dancing for 2 modern companies. So on that particular day, there must have been some combination of going to work(s) and rehearsal(s). And possibly going to class too if I was being virtuous. Hard to guess the likelyhood of that, but I think it is safe to say I was probably tired. :)

The missus and I treated ourselves to dinner from our favorite alarmingly cheap greasy chinese place tonight. They always stick a free can of soda in with your order and tonight it was gingerale. Good stuff. But piles of fried yum aside, the best part of the evening was this - on the questionable translation section of our fortune cookies, we found, respectively, the chinese words for "cold" and "beverage" thereby enabling us to launch into a multilingual version of G. Love & Special Sauce's timeless classic. Stick it in the fridge, MKF. Oh yeah.

Night all!

I know it's past Thurs., but in response to 'what were you doing 5 years ago?' I check a journal that I've kept and even had an entry for that date. I was recovering from oral surgery. Bleh. Ma, alot has happened in those 5 years, mostly all good stuff *g*

Happy Birthday to the small one Sandman78!

I myself am pleased to report a new niece of sorts... the gf's brother and his wife had a bouncing baby girl last night. A BIG baby girl from the sounds of it, with a voice to match. What a surprise, a relative of my gf likes to share her opinion with the world. :)

Dorothy.. cheers to the weekend (especially the early kind), but really... stop and smell the Thursday roses. Lovely and sweet, with underlying tones of zen, coffee and geekiness.

Any other opinions of what Thursday smells like?

My coffee smells different from yours. None of those superfluous condiments and whatnot that taint the pure aroma. If horses smelled like coffee, mine would smell like a Kentucky Derby champion thoroughbred on a crisp May morning (except ... it's Folgers, and I bought it at Wal-Mart. But you know what I mean).

Yeah, well... well... My pocket knife is bigger than yours is!

Eh, it's the best I could come up with.

If this is some kind of metaphor, I highly doubt it ... Actual pocket knives, though? I'm not sure I'd win that one - you work on a farm, I sit at a desk.

I humble myself before your pocket knife.

Now, now, kittens. Let's put down those pocketknives. I think that the spirit of Thursday is vast enough to encompass the coffee smell of each kitten's understanding, yes? :P

My Thursday is currently smelling like beer, which is no bad thing either.

Kittens? Kittens? Bueller? Kittens?
Where is everyone today?

We had the most delicious burst of warm weather yesterday. Crazy warm, like 60 degrees warm. I took a walk in the park and I took off my coat. God it was nice. I know it was just a tease and spring is still a long way off I don't care. It was blissful.

I am trying to gird up for the onslaught of Valentine's day traffic at work that begins tomorrow. Oh, how I dread it! It's funny that I am such a valentine's day grinch because the rest of the year I am in fact a Big Old Sap. But the whole codification of romance thing really just makes my skin crawl. At the spa we end up getting 3 or 4 solid days worth of uncomfortable couples coming in because they feel like this is what they are supposed to do. And they can't relax because they feel all pressured to be having a special time and at least half of the couple doesn't really want to be there. Ugh. Fortunately, I don't have to work on Saturday itself. Mrs. Leaf and I will be celebrating valentine's day the respectable way - with vampires. We're going to see this movie... http://www.lettherightoneinmovie.com/. Very excited about it.

Big wet kisses to all,

Whoa, just barely snuck in here, MKF! A weird Thursday, not sure what to make of it. Sleepy, busy, Mrs. Gorn got a job and then cooked meatloaf tonight. I used to not be such a fan of meatloaf until Mrs. Gorn started making it, now it's cause to celebrate.

It was Mrs. Gorn's idea to spend this weekend together for Valentine's Day, which is odd since she's usually not really big on Valentine's Day. We don't really have any plans, just go out to eat. Maybe see a movie, but there's nothing playing around here that looks all that interesting. I'll let her decide and just go for the popcorn. I LOVE movie theater popcorn! Seems all I ever have anymore is microwave popcorn, and it's just not the same.

There is an annoying Valentine's Day Festival in the World of Warcraft, lasting until Monday, I think. Annoying and tacky. It's not so bad if I stay out of the towns, but I always have to come back in for something and people start throwing rose petals at me and goblin cupids start following me around. I know a lot of Kittens are rather down on Valentine's Day, but it's far worse in the World of Warcraft.

Except for the Thursdayness, today has been rather nondescript. Were it not Thursday, I'd have nothing in particular to celebrate tonight. Yay, Thursday!

I have an announcement.

Everyone here has heard enough that this will likely be a huge anticlimax, but...

Yes, I still need to tack and trim a few things, but it's fundamentally done.

I know I could look this up on the internet, but it's more fun to ask ... what exactly is a hoophouse? I mean, I know it must be something like a greenhouse, but it sounds like the kind of place you get together with a bunch of Indians and sweat a lot. And does it really take over a year to assemble?

My own Thursday has no such dramatics as the hoophouse or bleaching my hair, MKF ... but the day is still young!

My big excitement these days is the return of Sassette. I don't read near enough stuff on Pens as I would like to, but she was one of my favorites when I first came here. Seeing her Vignettes pop up again has put me back in that mood; I'm planning a long night of catching up on a lot of stuff this Friday.

What's that, MKF? There are TWO new Vignettes? Thursday works its magic again!

Oh, sweetest of all threads, how I have neglected thee. I should bow before before the most fantastic of kitties and beg forgiveness for my abstemious nature.

Just like Boschi, I'm excited by the thoughts of spring and the newness of the season.

At work, the snowdrops, crocus and winter aconite cheer the soul with colour and strength, giving hope that winter has hung up her coat and put away her boots to let mother nature work her magic once again as the buds swell and the new growth emerges sleepily from it's cold rest.

I love those February days that are just that little warmer, the type that make me forget that spring officially begins on 21st March, and we are still in winter. I immediately dismiss all thoughts that winter can still give us a kick in the arse, and marvel at the heat on my back and the sun in my eyes.

I'm hoping that tomorrow is just as spring-like as I have a day off work giving me the one thing that rivals Thursday - a three day weekend, MKF!!

I got a new camera a few weeks back, and I intend to go the Zoo and take a few (hundred) nice piccies of the animals, and maybe hike over the Cavehill and back home.

Hope you're all having a good one, Thuskateers!!!

Hooray for vignettes and new hairdos and hoophouses and zoos. And eventual spring. A great big honkin' hooray for eventual spring!

I am 11 down, 3 to go in a 2 week solid work stretch. Tired and a little delirious maybe, but eyes fixedly on the prize of 5 days off in a row starting Monday. I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can...

Time to crash. Happy Thursday all!

Detroit sucks, MKF! Even on a Thursday!

This is my second day with no coffee. I'm staying at the first business hotel of my life that doesn't offer some kind of breakfast. Not even a muffin. Not even a cup of coffee! Let me say that again, MKF - the hotel does not even have coffee for its guests. It's one thing if I'm visiting the Third World, or some godforsaken corner of the earth where people don't drink coffee, but this is Detroit. 21st Century USA. There's no excuse.

Oh, but that's not all, MKF! I'm at a two-day training course at Ford for their horribly inept computer system. Swear to god it looks like something that used to run on a Commodore 64. And they're charging us $500 a pop to attend this course. Nevermind that no other carmaker I deal with charges for these kind of courses; that's the price of doing business with Ford. Now, last time I was down here they had coffee and bagels. Coffee wasn't half bad, either. I came straight from my pisspoor hotel to the training center yesterday in hopes of getting a cup of said coffee ... but they've stopped serving it. Horror-stricken, I asked them why and they said ... they were losing money on it. $500 per student, class of about fifteen folks - that's $7500 they're making on this course, and they can't afford to give us a damn cup of coffee???

I was told the cafeteria had coffee, but they wouldn't open until 10:30am. Nice. I guess with the economic slump up here no one needs to get up early anymore. Except for those of us in this class.

Lunch at the A&W was pretty good; I love root beer. Thought I'd buy myself a big coffee, though, take it back to the class and nurse it through the rest of the afternoon. Nope, sorry, our coffee machine is broken ... We had a break in the class around 3 o'clock, thought I'd run down to the cafeteria and FINALLY get a cup ... cafeteria is closed from 2pm to 4pm.

I was running late this morning, but I thought I'd swing by the Wendy's across the street regardless. It was the only fast-food place in the immediate area (besides A&W and their broken coffee machine). This particular Wendy's, I soon learned, does not open for breakfast until 9:30am.

So I give up. I will suffer through this indignity until about 4pm today. As soon as I cross the border into Ohio, I'm stopping at the first truckstop I find. I hate this damn city.

Thursday is a good day to leave Detroit, MKF. I will end the day drinking coffee and sleeping in my own bed with Mrs. Gorn. If I never go to Detroit again it will be too soon ...
I spent most of my money on liquor and women,
The rest I wasted.

Poor gorn. I hope you have finally found your coffee. And your way out of Detroit.

I am deeply enjoying my week off. Spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Philadelphia (where they do have coffee btw) visiting with some dear friends and am happy to be home again (coffee here as well.) I tell you though, time off really flies by. Zoom. I can't believe it's almost over. Sigh.

Happy Thursday all!
