Ah, the Foo is homeless and ktv is unemployed... so sad the depths kittens can fallen to.

Kidding there. Just to make utterly certain you all were clear on that. Wouldn't want to be called rude or anything. Ahem.

Congrats on the house sale Foo - that has to be a relief. I hate big stuff like that just hanging over my head.

Grr... my space bar seems to be sticking.

Congrats also to Sammys Girl for passing exams. Always a good thing.

gorn, duuuuuuuuude. Hang in there. Soon the lovely Mrs will be home again. If you get worried about it, just visualize her winging her way home on the solid backs of a couple hundred flying sumo wrestlers.

Hmmm... I just started thinking about what could make a bunch of fat men lighter than air.

Thunderboomers, obviously.

:smug

Kessari - yeah, I get the job sucking thing. Believe me. But today is Thursday! Take heart.

A quick bit of kvetching: why must all the network Olympic coverage be of either swimming, womens volleyball, or gymnastics? Hmmm?

Allright - have a good Thursday evening all.

It rained! Woohoo!

Not much though. Darn.

And the forecast changed to show no appreciable rain for the next week.
Aaaaaaargh!

I swear I'm capable of controlling the weather. If I irrigate, it rains. If I plant something and don't irrigate because the friggin' forecast says four days of rain... then nothing.

I must learn to control my powers better.

Happy Thursday all - I'm in a good mood because yesterday I cheated a bit - and by that I do not mean naughtiness with curvy goodness. I mean premature, tractor-mediated destruction.

I mowed down and tilled in almost my entire field. And let me tell you all, it was good for me. Down went the harlequin infested broccoli, away went the weeds and voila - a tidy looking field with neat bands of tilled soil.

Aaaaaahhh. I really should have waited a little longer but the weeds were out of control. So I stole a little pleasure from September. Well worth it I think.

All right - I'm off to worky work. Bye.
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.

We made it to another Thursday, MKF! It is literally now forty-days and forty-nights until Mrs. Gorn comes home. Seems somewhat significant, but it doesn't feel any different than any other day so far ...

A voice in my head is telling me to build an ark out of all the empty pizza boxes I've got lying around the house.

I like to think this is Thursday working its magic on me, but this is the first day since coming back from Mexico two weeks ago when I haven't felt sick in some way. I woke up this morning with no cough. My nose wasn't plugged. My ears didn't feel like I was going up too fast in an elevator. My stomach wasn't churning. No fever. Not at all once, but I've suffered from each and every one of these symptoms, sometimes two at a time since coming back. Just when I felt like I was getting better, something else would start up. Damnedest thing I've ever had. The day is still young, but I'd go as far as to say I feel ... almost good today. It's been so long, it's hard to tell for certain.

Boschi - "harlequin infested broccoli?" Is that really something bad? It sounds kind of ... I don't know, kind of festive. I'd be reluctant to plow something like that under without throwing a party first.

You know, I feel so good right now ... I think I'm going to cook dinner tonight. Grill some chicken, maybe, serve it on top of saffron rice. Nothing out of a box, or out of the microwave, or delivered by someone in a brightly colored uniform.

Oh, who am I kidding? I'm playing World of Warcraft tonight the minute I get home. Tonight's dinner is pizza pockets and Mt. Dew.

Have a great Thursday, MKF!

Ah! 'Tis Thursday at last, and it feels good in a way that's impossible to describe.

It's been a long week since the last beloved day.

Last Saturday we had major rain here in Belfast, with severe flooding in some areas.

That's when I discovered my gutter at the back of the house was blocked. The water flooding into my living room through the wall and window frame gave me a big clue.

It was like a scene from Titanic, without Kate Winslet unfortunately

On Monday, just to add insult to injury, I found that my heating wasn't working because the close approximation of Niagra Falls that fell from my roof on Saturday had also got into the boiler and knocked out the electrics, so the burner wouldn't fire. Funny enough that's when I noticed I had almost run out of heating oil and had to shell out £298 for somemore. I also have the joy of paying the heating engineer weekend rates when he calls on Saturday morning to fix the damn thing, cos i couldn't take anymore time off work this week.

But that part is two day's away, and I will not let it interfere with my Thursday joy.

For the first time in almost two weeks we had sunshine - lovely, warm, golden yellow hope from the sky - god, how I missed you even if you do burn my neck and give me a heat rash.

ktv - thanks for pm, I don't really know what a burrito is, but my tortilla wrap ended up looking like a baby in a blanket, so I think something went wrong somewhere - lol. Sorta like this

Gorn wrote:"harlequin infested broccoli?" Is that really something bad? It sounds kind of ... I don't know, kind of festive. I'd be reluctant to plow something like that under without throwing a party first.

Most likely the Harlequin Ladybird/Ladybug. It's a nasty little bugger with canabalistic tendencies in that when the aphids have gone it will eat other species of Ladybird/bug. It's starting to get a foothold in the UK, and it can cause major damage to the other species because as well as cannibalism, thier larvae are extemely voracious feeders and will wipe out aphids much quicker than the others, leaving less food for the more beneficial specie.

Bosch: Boo on the not so much rain. I'll burn up an offering to the rain gods for ya, as I've realized, through packing, the sheer amount of crap we have. Do you think some yellow yarn, pairless socks, and a leather fanny pack will appease them? If not, I can do a naked rain dance. :)

Gorn: Seriously, when this move is over, we need to lay waste to the many lands of Azeroth.

PtS: Bummer about the flood. Too bad there wasn't a way to divert it over to Boschi's field instead of your house.

I don't really know what a burrito is

Really? No taquerias in Belfast? That's intriguing. Reminds me of a trip Mrs. Foo and I took to LA . . . I had never been downtown before, so we took a touristy bus ride through the city. Our driver was Latino, and he kept calling us amigos, to the point where this little Australian girl sitting behind us asked her mom what an amigo was (spanish for friend). Just goes to show you the cultural divide. Anyways . . .

Topic: Thursday is chill. I booked our moving company for next Saturday. Even as the boxes and the crap gets hauled away, it hasn't hit me yet that it's acutally happening. We're still trying to clear out some space at the in-laws; we're moving into the master suite, and my mother-in-law is a certified pack rat, so you can imagine the work we've got cut out for us. I swear, everything she owns has sentimental value. I'm afraid that I'm going to find a jar of Mrs. Foo's teeth tucked away somewhere.

Some friends are coming over for a last hurrah tomorrow. It'll be nice to remenisce, seeing as they are the ones who helped us move/paint/tile/flagstone the backyard. Lots of good memories there. I moved around a lot as a kid, and I never really considered the houses we lived in "home," but I think that's what this place was, my true home. It's sad to say goodbye to the spots on the carpet where the pets vomitted, the crack in the Pergo floor where I smashed that bottle of Goldslagger because I was angry at something I can't remember, Friday DVR nights with beer and pizza, the framed poster of Moulin Rouge that always looks crooked . . . *sighs*. But I'm looking forward to the next chapter, whatever it'll bring (I was promised a new Mac once we've set up shop. Mrs. Foo's got her eye on a Wii).

My mom's turning the big 50 this weekend, so we're going to visit. My parents are karaoke whores, so for her birthday we got her a wireless karaoke set with 2,000 songs and two mics, perfect for when they decide to serenade each other in the middle of the night. Should be fun.

On a very side note, I mentioned before the whole business of straightening my hair. Well, I splurged, and three weeks later, not a frizz in sight. Seriously, my hair is so straight it's about the only heterosexual thing about me. Don't have to blow dry it, or nothing. Just shiny shiny soft goodness. The only downside is I kinda look like Severus Snape from the Harry Potter movies.

Okay, I done rambling. Happy Thursday!
Foo

Oh my friends, I am having a very lovely Thursday. The girl and I took ourselves off camping this week and just got back today. We had such a nice time. Lots of hiking along bluffs overlooking Long Island Sound and sitting around campfires thinking about absolutely nothing. And roasting marshmallows. And sipping whiskey. Which, by the way, go surprisingly well together.

I have 2 weeks off work right now, which longest vacation I have seen since I was 19 or so. I am reeling. This evening we are going on a little boat tour of Prospect Park with wine and cheese and tomorrow is a visit to the New York Botanical Gardens. As vacations go it may be humble but sweet baby jesus I am enjoying every minute of it!

PtS - So sorry about your flood and associated woes. And thank you for demonstrating to me the silver lining of being a renter.

gorn - Congrats on your newfound health. I'm sure pizza is the way to sustain it. Carry on.

foo - Severus Snape is hot. You know he is.

Boschi - Enjoy your tidy rows!

Happy Thursday all,
L

ETA: Ok, the "Twilight Tour" of Prospect Park was AWESOME! We floated around and learned about birds and bats and duckweed and how when they first built the lakes (2 years of guys digging by hand with shovels by the way - think about that next time you hate your job) and filled 'em up they were empty the next morning because they hadn't lined them with anything. Opps. Anyway, we had a great time and saw herons and bats and some guy washing his clothes in the lake. Ah, Brooklyn. I love it here.

So in all likelihood I will be absent from the Thursday festivities next week as the Wedding from Hell will finally be happening and I will be held captive in Connecticut being brainwashed into the cult of bridesmaidenliness. Please pray that I come out unscathed and party on in my stead.

Oh the sweet sight of Thursday and how it brings joy to my life. Especially this week because tomorrow I start my vacation. A couple of my friends and I are heading to Maine. We've always wanted to visit. And if I don't get to see whales I'll be highly disappointed. But I am excited about eating some fresh lobster. My Thursday was pretty swell but kind of sad b/c my kids in my class are transitioning to another room. I'll miss them. Everyone have a wonderful rest of your Thursday...gorn don't get too lost in the World of Warcraft and which song do you play on yout guitar to seduce the ladies?

Well, back in the day you couldn't go wrong with "Patience" by Guns & Roses. "Stairway To Heaven" was good until Wayne's World went and ruined it for all of us. It impressed the easily impressed, and to this day I still don't think you can really call yourself a guitar player until you can at least play the intro. The big one for me in the 90's, though, was "She Talks To Angels" by the Black Crowes because not a lot of other folks could play it (open tuning!). And the melody itself is still beautiful, even if they don't know the song itself.

The trick, though, is to play everything you know and see what hits. It's usually ballads, but you never know - for Mrs. Gorn, it was "Twist & Shout" by the Beatles. She didn't really know any good American music (yeah, I know the Beatles were British, you know what I mean) but her face lit up with recognition as soon as I started playing that particular song.

What's going to work nowadays, I really couldn't say. I've kind of lost track of what folks are listening to these days. When in doubt, though, make sure you know the Pentatonic Scale and play something bluesy. Bend a couple of notes, make it funky. It doesn't even have to be a real song as long as it sounds cool.

Ah, almost makes me wish I was 20 years younger and doing it all over again ...

Almost.

G'night, MKF.

Thursday? It's Thursday?! Ah, fuck me, I'm late getting too many things done....

A random word I just found in the dictionary:

"schediasm (noun) An extemporized work, a jotting."

What a very grim term for a doodle. I'm wondering if it can be altered to become "schediastic", because I'd love to go around proclaiming that I
have "schediastic tendencies".

At anyrate... hope today finds everyone well. For MKF's pleasure, I offer up the newest reason for my procrastination: Fancy Pants.

Happy Thursday all.

Well, who doesn't like fancy pants, MKF? Particularly on a Thursday! Alas, my office's filter blocked The Fancy Pants Site, so I can only sit here imagining how wonderful it must be ...

This may or may not be at all relevant, but my own pants could not be more boring. I'm ashamed, quite honestly.

I don't really have a whole lot of time on my hands today, MKF, so I'll keep this short. Mrs. Gorn is still in Japan, 32 days left to go. A co-worker is out all week and I've been covering for her, in addition to shoveling the 16 tons of work normally to be found on my desk. End of the month reports are due tomorrow morning ... I have not done jack shit at present, so I'll probably be up most of the night. Oven is still broken.

Mrs. Gorn blurted out something startingly erotic - in English - on the phone this morning which was equal parts charming, raunchy, titillating, and frustrating. No, I take that back - it was mostly frustrating because there's nothing I can do about it for another month ...

And with that happy thought, back to work.

whew, a thursday i didn't miss! yay!

i was hoping to use this thursday to sleep in, finally, before last night i'd spent 5 of the six previous nights with the girl and was super lacking in sleep. so i was stoked to finally sleep in this morning (one of the few perks of being unemployed). but alas, i'd forgotten i had to get up at 9 to take my brother's stepkids to their school orientation. oh well, 9 is better than like 630 for sure.

there's not much else going on in my world. i sleep, eat, fornicate and watch the democratic national convention. i found myself having very impure thoughts about chelsea clinton the other night. so now i've had inappropriate fantasies about the entire clinton clan (well, except roger, cause even i have standards).

oh, because my five-year-old palate has been oft-discussed in these hallowed halls, i thought i'd let you all know that i let the girl take me to a thai restaurant the other night and i actually enjoyed it. i do not like peanut sauce, at all, but everything else was pretty good. plus i had this iced tea drink with vanilla vodka in it. amazing.

anyway, hope you're all hanging in there this thursday! and gorny, i hope mrs gorn doesn't keep teasing you and making those 32 days go by even more slowly!!

peace out, kittens.

^Eating, sleeping and fornicating is that best way to live, ktv. :D

My Thursday was spent in the student union drinking diesel (cider, beer, blackcurrant) out of the grooooss union pipes that probably haven't been cleaned since it opened. Oh how I MISSED them. <3 And got kinda tipsy after two? Oops. Back out there tomorrow anyways. Shweet.

I've also started seeing this guy who's so ridiculously not my type it's not even funny. I think it'll be good for me.

Happy Thursday everyone!

Fascinating character building exercise. :)

Foo: the weather continues to piss me off. Please throw any moving waste on the altar of the rain god, taking great pains to loudly state the important value of these "sacrifices" before lighting the match. I don't think it would hurt to do a naked rain dance around the fire either. Certainly the idea will cheer up MKF.

Bosch, I'm mentally sending you the huge amounts of rain we have your way! Tell me when it get sthere. And send the sun back please?!

And the guy isn't a character building exercise! I've never been content with guys who ARE my type so I'm giving something else a try.

Or I could throw caution to the wind and try chicks. Mmm drama.

He is not. At all.

1) He is into metal.
2) He's ridiculously skinny. (Quite possibly skinnier than me, worrying.)
3)He is a bit of a bastard to people who aren't me, he might end up being a bastard to me.

But hey, if he's mean to me at least it'll keep me interested.

I'm taking back my rain, I want some nekkid raindance entertainment. :)

So technically, Friday is my Thursday, so I'm justified in posting.

The big move is almost finished. I had a little drama with the moving company I hired, apparently there's a lot of moving scammers out there, and the one I chose got tons of negative reviews. Guess that's what you get when you hire the cheapest ones possible. Luckily I was able to find another company on short notice, and while they're a little more expensive, you know, you get what you pay for.

So I've got a pretty impressive offering for the rain gods, so hopefully this will bring a nice deluge for your crops, Bosch: 32 inch Sony TV, full size bed frame and headboard, some select pieces of arts and crafts made by Mrs. Foo during her creative explosion in the 2nd grade, and a Rubber Maid container full of mystery items. And since the masses are calling for it, nekkid rain dance it is!

ktv: There's a filipino dish that's like a peanut butter stew, made with oxtail, chinese cabbage, eggplant, string beans, and for those with a steel stomach, tripe. Grossed out yet? :) I would watch my mom scoop out half a jar of peanut butter into a big pot when I was little. Kinda strange.

Foo, that is quite possibly the grossest dish EVAR. (And for the record, I think peanut sauce is gross too. Or just nuts in general really.)

And don'tcha think the 90% of Kittens are kinda biased? ;-) ) I'm sure my time will come. :P

Roll on next Thursday, I'll be one day away from finishing my week of milking!

MFK, could this Thursday be any hotter? I mean, really, it's unnatural for it to be 81 degrees in San Francisco.

So we're completely moved in, and we close escrow tomorrow. I'm glad it's finally over with. Save for a few boxes and a POD sitting in the driveway waiting to be filled, we're pretty much done. And there's no better way to celebrate than a weekend in Vegas!

Mrs. Foo's mom is turning 60, so we're doing it up big in Vegas this weekend. And since we're sans mortgage, we're taking in Cirque Du Soleil's Beatles Tribute "Love" at the Mirage, then Cher at Caesar's. Somewhere in between I plan on a nice massage and winning big at the craps table. And eating. Mrs. Foo and her mom are not buffet types, but they are accomodating my need for large quantities of various food stuffs. It'll be heaven.

Tonight a friend hooked up with tickets to see the new show downtown, "Spring Awakening." Dinner at the Indian/Pakistani restaurant rounds out tonight's festivities.

And in a startling turn of events, I'm totally going to see Donny, Danny, Joey, Jon, and Jordan in October. It's going to be LEGENDARY.

Alrighty MFK, be good and go easy on the cat nip.

ETA: I proofread my posting and read. "And eating Mrs. Foo." Heh. That's a possibility. ;-)

Goodness I missed a saucy day last week! Terrible pun, yes, but I couldn't resist. Personally I loves the peanut sauce. I think deep in it's heart, peanut butter would prefer to always be combined with rice vinegar, lime juice, and just that little bit of fish sauce. That is when it's not busy being combined with chocolate. Hard to top the classic beauty of the peanut butter/chocolate combo. Mmmmm....now I'm drooling.

Here are the cliff notes of my last two weeks:
Camping trip - awesome!
Discovering a fairly serious medical concern with Mrs. Leaf's right eyeball - decidedly not awesome.
Health insurance premiums for the self employed - nightmarish.
Having a couple days at home to do nothing - utterly lovely.
Wedding prep with the in-laws - nowhere near as bad as it could have been.
BigHeteroCatholicWeddingCircus - at times strange and disturbing, but far more fun than expected.
"Rose Petal" nail polish - not a good color on me.
Strapless bras - a leftover medieval torture device.
Inheriting new relatives - sometimes scary, sometimes fantastic
2nd wedding in 1 weekend - oddly enough, a delightful change of pace
the French King Motel in Miller's Falls, MA - musty, filthy, and full of spiders.
Leaving at 5am and beating all the Labor Day traffic - the best idea ever.
Getting home and back to our lives - soooooooooo good!

Happy Thursday kittens!

my thursday started hot and heavy at midnight. by 5am there were tears and talk of break up - even though i'm sure you have to call it something other than a breakup if you're not even technically exclusive. i am sleepy and raw and totally feeling the drama queen boschi knows me to be.

in fun thursday news, i'm babysitting my terribly cute niece and just watched her put her socks on all by herself. it's the craziest thing.

her mom will be here soon and then i'm taking a nap and not thinking about this stuff for a while. well, till tonight when i tell the girl she's got till the holidays to shit or get off the pot. sigh.

happy thursday peeps.

oh, and glad you survived the horrors of connecticut and the hetero-wedding from hell, leafy!

The first rule of drunk posting in the Thursday thread is - DO NOT DRUNK POST IN THE THURSDAY THREAD!!!

*violates the rules all over the place (all of them but the precious FAQ, of course)*

Having worked the last 6 days straight, I do believe it is okay if I cut myself some slack and have a margarita or three and post some incomprehensible poo here.

Random thoughts:

Margaritas are goooooood. Yes. Not as good as coffee (see me making sweet love to The Coffee Thread, to which I am too drunk to link), but still good. Still good.

Hurricanes suck. I work for a non-profit that's been trying to help the evacuees. I have heard from so many people in such desperate situations. It's tragic. And there is such cynicism out there in the world about the evacuees. I have no doubt that someone out there IS trying to scam the disaster relief system, but please know that the overwhelming majority of evacuees are honest, decent people who don't have a lot of resources to begin with and these hurricanes, the evacuations, the fear, the disruption...it's all a humongous strain on them.

Will Google's Chrome browser cause me to be unfaithful to Firefox?

Once my work schedule calms down and stabilizes, Thursdays are going to be my Sundays. Bleh!

For those of you having trials and tribulations, I am so sorry. For those of you having happy times, yay.

I am pretty happy today. Margaritas and not having to work tonight are two small things for which I am grateful. Gratitude is one of the secrets of happiness.

Happy Thursday, Kittens of Thursdayland! :heart

It's not even Thursday here any more.

But I'm posting anyway. :)

My Thursday = cleaning rats out, milking and watching Son of Rambow. Before drinking too much and chatting away to my maytees. SKYPE!

Happy Thursday everyone.

Be GOOD PULLS. :) Not too much tongue, not too little. :P

Oofta! Todays postings seem like particularly real little snap shots of life.

Leaf - good to see you back, your adventures sound wonderful, and best wishes for the Mrs.'s eyeball - see if Foo will do a little magic for you - her burnt offerings and nekkid rain dances brought an abundance of rain to my fields.

It is insanely cool here - the fifties in early September is freakish, but I am enjoying it. I wore a sweatshirt today - made my day.

ktv - again, you want I should knock her kneecaps, boss? Hang in there kiddo.

maudmac - Woohoo - Drunken Thursday posting! Cheers!

floyd - Ummm....

Be GOOD PULLS. Not too much tongue, not too little.

I don't get it. I know, I know, I'm a dork. But I don't get it. Pulls?

Oh, forgive me, MKF! I've been posting all over the place today ... except in that one, most wonderfullest place to post in all the world - the "It's Just Thursday, MKF!" thread! What have I been thinking?? I kept thinking all day about posting here, but I didn't really have anything to say other than how goddamn happy I was to finally see Thursday again. This week has flown by ... but I feel like I've paid for every second of it. There's a "Lists" thread around here I don't dare post in because my lists tend to be moebius loops.

Alright, I do have something to talk about tonight now. Is it just me, or is the nudity on Cinemax gotten a little more ... gratuitously graphic? Since getting it for a penny back in January, I probably haven't seen Cinemax for twenty years. Or more. Last time was back in the days when I wasn't really certain naked women actually existed, but I don't remember it being anything like what I'm seeing on the screen now. It's not like it's hardcore pornography, but still ...

I think Thursday is a good day for gratuitous nudity (used to be a great day for nookie). In any case, gratuitous nudity is so much better than gratuitous politics.
I spent most of my money on liquor and women,
The rest I wasted.

I don't really understand the concept of this thread and I'm too lazy to read the first page ha But clearly it's a big deal...so...

My Thursday consisted of:
-Running around town dropping off applications
-Going to the DMV
-Going to Subway
-Having fun fun messages with the crush
-Talking to Floyd up there about things I can't even remember but it's ok she won't remember as she was half drunk anyway.

Woot!
