Hey all, just reporting in. It's weird. I feel lke I'm sullying Thursday if I have nothing to say, but seeing as ktv put out a shout I thought I'd answer the call.

I had a look at the spotbot, very nifty. We don't seem to have them in the uk, and I bet if we did they cost twice as much.

Foomatic wrote:guess the chocolate game (which will be conveniently melted into a baby diaper)

I sincerely hope this game goes well, cos I hate to think of the consequences if there is a mix-up along the line:)

It's friday here, and the start of the 'twelfth' weekend. It's fun (not). Tonight bonfires will be lit across the city and teenagers and assholes will drink copious amounts of cheap lager and tomorrow hundreds of flute and accordian bands will walk to the 'field'.

It is a not a celebration and europes largest indigenous folk and cultural festival, it is a celebration of over 300 years of bigotry and hatred.

I have recently moved back to the part of the city I was born in, and unfortunately for me, I'm in the heartland of all that is Protestant.

I'm buying earplugs today, cos it's gonna be a mad two days, and just hearing 'The Sash' (traditional rousing tune) makes me want to scream.

Hope all your Thursday's went well, and have a good weekend Thursketeers!

Must be a slow Thursday, MFK. It's one week countdown until the Big Hawaiian Island Hopping Extravaganza 2008, but to be honest, my brain has been on vacation since the beginning of July. Alls I need to buy is a pair of bitching aviator sunglasses and a comfy hat.

We had someone check out the house yesterday, and they passed because of a stain on our hardwood. Seriously? We'll spend the $1000 to fix that if you just buy the damn place. I wonder what the hell our realtor is doing, that should have been the first thing out his mouth. The market is creating finicky buyers, grr. But, we do have someone coming in today as well to look. Apparently her grandmother used to own the place, so let's hope they decide to keep it in the family again.

On a side note, I posted a while back about a guy who just let himself into our house after assuming the "For Sale" sign meant the house was empty. Well, it happened again, this time with my partner. She apparently did not heed her own advice ("Why didn't you lock the sliding door?") and some dude came in the back. She caught him in the kitchen, sputtering and embarrassed. I cannot believe some people. And on top of that, our packages from UPS keep getting returned because they see that "For Sale" sign and think we've moved!! Argh. So now we're getting one of those "Do Not Disturb the Occupants" sign.

Other than that, week's been pretty good, and the weekend's shaping up to be fun. We're seeing a cabaret in the city on Friday, then High Tea with some friends on Sunday, and somewhere in between I'm finally going to decide whether I want to get my hair "thermally reconditioned." It's very expensive process that straightens your hair, and I want to do it because my hair is a poofy tangled mess, which is going to turn into an overgrown jungle once the Hawaiian humidity hits it next week. I have a free consultation after work today , and since my hair isn't terribly long (shoulder length), I hope I can get away with paying under $400 for it, so we'll see.

Happy Thursday Kittens!!

Wow, Thursday kinda snuck on me, again. I think'll have to set the reminder fuction on my phone from now on.

Must be cos I've been on holiday all week and one day is running into the next.

I've had a lovely quiet week at home doing absolutely nothing except things I want to do. For me, that's pure bliss. I haven't verbally spoken to a soul for three days, actually, come to think of it, I'm not sure I've spoke out loud at all for three days apart from a bit of singing along to the radio. My phone hasn't rang either, loads of texts, but no verbals. Ok, so that's a bit weird, but if anyone really wants me they know where I am, so I guess no-one wants me at the moment, and that is just fine by me.

Hah, them that know me wouldn't believe I could keep quiet for 3 minutes nevermind three days.

Have a lovely Thursday, silently or not, whatever you're doing :pinky

wow, i thought i was massively late to the thursday party. looks like most of the thurdayziens didn't even show up! nice to see you fooy and pts, way to represent!

i was just about to leave the office when i remembered i hadn't posted in this thread. i don't have internet at home right now, so i would have totally missed thursday! i don't even know when the last time was that i missed a thursday.

i had to go to the doctor today for my achilles. i am still (STILL!!) in the aircast, but he says i can start coming out of it incrementally over the next ten days. that means i'll be boot free by the bar! joy! i still have at least another month of physical therapy to stretch the tendon and muscles in my short right leg and increase my range of motion or whatever, and i can't ever wear flip flops again, and can't do any hiking or working out for another few months, so my summer is pretty much shot. but no boot! e* will be very happy to know that her dream of "foreplay not involving the sound of velcro ripping" will be a reality soon!

speaking of my cute little jewess... she spent the night last night so my thursday started out awesomely. we went to dinner at a cuban place last night (she's trying to work on expanding my culinary horizons) but i wasn't really into it. she was super disappointed to strike out, but i told her that the surprising success she had with me and middle eastern was a fluke and shouldn't be expected to set a precedent. but the girl, like me, enjoys a challenge.

so tonight i'm going to study, study, study and search the house for more instances of my cats defiling it (see a recent post i made in the crappy feelings thread... this was literally crappy). today's present was a morning wakeup call of a puddle of cat pee on the floor in the bathroom. not a spraying, but a full on release of the entire contents of one of their bladders. i have no clue what is going on. if it's a pissed thing or a health thing, and i don't know which one is doing it, but i guess a trip to the vet is in order. for the record, it's this kind of shit and my reaction to it that reminds me why it would be a terrible idea for me to ever procreate.

anyway, hope you all are having a rockin' thursday, whereever you are.

enjoy the rest of your silent staycation, pts. and fooy, have a great weekend with your cabaret and tea, you high-falutin' city gal, you.

Hello Thursdayians! I'm late to the Thursday party..I'm actually kinda sad at Thursday today. I know it's not her fault but I woke up thinking today was Saturday and then when my alarm went off I was like "It's Just Thursday". This week has been one hell of a long week but thank goodness it's almost over. I'm kinda pumped about the weekend. Tomorrow my work is holding some kind of happy hour thing and all the proceeds go to my place of employment. I work in a place for special needs kids so it's a good thing. And I'll be drinking plenty to support them! Tonight I went to work out, cooked dinner for my lonesome self, played GTA IV, and practiced guitar. All in all a good day since we didn't have too many kids at school today. Well I hope everyone has a great weekend. Peace out Kittens!!!

ktv.........no flips flops ever. I wouldn't be able to live. I wear flips flops until the weather hits 32 F. :paranoid

Hey there Thursdayers.

I must confess that until about 5 minutes before I left work today I was not feeling the Thursday joy. In fact, I was cranky and tired and entirely sick of human beings (which doesn't really fly in my particular field). But then the boss brought in a box of Beard Papa's eclair cream puffs. All grumbliness was forgiven and forgotten. Magic those little pastries are, magic.

Happy Thursday everybody!

Better late than never, MKF!! I missed two Thursday's while in Japan, and I will carry that shame with me forever; I will never miss a Thursday again.

Well ... at least not without a very good excuse. "Never" is quite a big commitment (not that I have any commitment issues, I'm just being practical. You know what I mean, MKF).

Today kind of dragged; the whole office was like that. Can't quite put my finger on it, but around 4:30pm I suddenly realized I was the only one left at work. Can't have that, so I scooted off. I don't know, perhaps it was the heat. woahnellie had a good post some time back about the "It's Just Thursday, MKF!" thread really being your one-stop all-purpose thread - yes, MKF, today was hot as hell. But I drank coffee anyway. Black coffee, black like a New Zealand rugby team.

Morning Kittens!

It is a blissfully gray and cool day here. The windows are open, the breeze is blowing, and there is coffee in my yellow mug. If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.

I spent a bunch of yesterday helping a friend pack in preparation for a big move to TX. She's been in NY for the last 10 years and in this apartment for the last 5, so there was plenty to go through. It was kind of fascinating thinking about how the act of packing and sorting through your stuff causes you to redefine your life and yourself a little each time you move. There are all these little bits of your history that you might cart around for years and then all of a sudden you are ready to let go. We thought about all the sentimental treasures that we had given friends and loves ages ago (letters/poems/paintings/mix tapes) and wondered how much of that is still floating around out there in the ether. Or in the storage boxes. Wacky.

I grew up on this odd quasi-commune where it was a huge community event anytime someone moved and a minimum of 30 people would show up to help out. They would form a bucket brigade from house to truck and could have the whole thing cleared out so fast your head would spin. Then everyone would head on over to the new place and reverse the whole game. And then have a potluck. It's one of the best memories I have of my peculiar childhood, and it makes me kind of sad now when folks move all on their own without a big group send off. Everyone needs a party for something that exhausting.

Clearly this weather has me feeling all reflecty today. Anyhoo, deep thoughts or not, enjoy your Thursday kittens!

I'm also vaguely annoyed with some people..

peace out

Is it really Thursday, MKF? No fooling? Sometimes it seems like Thursday is never coming, you know? This week just dragged on ... Every week seems to drag with Mrs. Gorn away, but I promised myself I wouldn't let it bother me on Thursday.

Unfortunately, I have very little else to talk about, MKF. Well, there is the Kittenboard curse of The Broken Tractor. Boschi's tractor went down earlier this week, and so did my riding mower. With as little rain as we've had one would think this wouldn't be a problem, but my lawn is inexplicably turning into a jungle. The mower's in the shop now, though, so I might be able to mow again this weekend.

Seriously, the fields of corn all around my house are curling up and dying, but the grass is almost up to my knees in the backyard. Go figure.

I'm glad it's Thursday, MKF. Looking forward to Thursday each week seems to make the time go by just a little quicker. Friday, the weekend, business trip to Mexico, won't be back at work again until next Thursday ... and then I can scratch another week off the calender. It's not so bad.

Whaddaya know... I made it this week!

Today promises to be the last nice day before we descend into a brutal heat spell. I'm planning on enjoying every minute of it. I slept in today since I don't have to get to the field quite so early to beat the heat.

We had incredible rains Tuesday night, and I haven't seen my field since. I'm curious how it faired - I'm expecting some major washouts, but perhaps not. It was four inches of rain, but it was spread out over a good twelve hours.

On a happy note, I recently discovered that a great masseuse that I thought had moved away is still in town. I am so looking forward to a good sixty minutes or so, laying on her table, drooling. Leaf, do you have a special drool clean up protocol at your job?

And speaking of Leaf: "mixed tapes" (as in the ones you and your moving friend were reminiscing over): You've dated yourself now, my dear. I've probably mentioned the scorn heaped upon me by younger friends when I referred to a mixed tape, yes? They thought it was hysterically funny. Obnoxious little CD generation....

Allrighty. My tractor is fixed (sorry to hear about yours gorn), and my field needs to be harvested, so I am off.

Be good (or at least interestingly bad), MKF.

P.S. Hey! ktv! Whassup with the bar?
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.

Boschers! Good to have you back. And regarding the drool - yes I have a whole drool catcher/cleanup system. Essential part of practice.

Boschi wrote:And speaking of Leaf: "mixed tapes" (as in the ones you and your moving friend were reminiscing over): You've dated yourself now, my dear. Oh, don't I know it! It's all right though, I'm proud to be a child of the 80's. Plus, check this out, now we're so old we're hip again. He he. Those digital brats have no idea how much time and effort those little boxy labors of love took anyway. Remember having the whole tape almost done and then your last song is 3 seconds too long? And do you just let it cut off because you are tired and irritated and how much do you really like this chick anyway or do you go back and rerecord the whole thing?

Today is laundry day at casa de Leafy. But pleasantly, Mrs. Leaf is off of school for the next month so I have assistance. That means we got to haul out all that stuff that was wanting to be washed for months and was waiting for 2 able bodies to cart it around. Lovely. Plus, laundry is nicer with a buddy.

It is sunny and hot today and feels solidly like summer. I've been enjoying all the storms we've had lately, but this is good too. However, it does make one want to blow off work and head for the beach in a big big way.

Oh - and an update on the Wedding From Hell that Still Approaches Yet Never Seems to End: the bridesmaid shoes have arrived. They are ugly but not as ugly as they could have been. Mrs. Leaf and I now own matching shoes. I don't know why, but this strikes me as particularly absurd. We'd better at least be able to wrangle a Halloween costume out of those fool things.

And yes, ktv, the bar??? MKF needs to know!

Happy Thursday all!

:::drags herself into the thread:::

:wave

i'm here. i'm alive. i survived the bar. two whole days of it even.

it was hell. i thought it wouldn't be such a big deal because i'd already done the whole deal in MA. oh, silly ktv, tricks are for kids. it was just as bad the second time around and more frustrating because i've already passed this fucker elsewhere! oh well, now begins the countdown to results in september. i really have no idea how well i did or didn't do. i bombed one of the essays, but everyone usually does. i have no way to gauge how i did on the MBE (the multiple choice portion).

for some reason i came to work today only to find that everyone was surprised to see me and figured i wouldn't be in until monday. would've been nice if they'd told me that! i wouldn't have had to kick a hot girl out of my warm bed this morning if i'd know i could be a flake until monday. but now that i'm in the office my boss seems content on keeping me here to get through the stacks of work that have accumulated in my absence (and i think he also missed getting to treat me like an incompetent cause he's making up for lost time... I so need a new job). sigh.

i'm hoping i can cut out a little early tomorrow cause the girl and i are going out to eastern oregon to camp in the middle of nowhere. should be glorious. she's been amazing during this whole bar fiasco... totally spoiled me last night after the exam and is planning our little weekend getaway. she's swell. it's going to end horribly.

okay, that's all you're getting out of my this thursday, mkf. boss is yelling, my right hand is still all cramped up (from writing essays, you perves!) and i am totally shellshocked.

hope you all are having a fabulous thursday!

Hey guys!

It's my 1000th post, I feel it only right and proper I post it here, in the utterly fantastic, ultra-friendly, say what ever you want, all singing, and all dancing 'It's just Thursday, MKF!' thread.

My day just got better cos my nano is working again, so no pesky correspondence with Amazon et al :pinky

Other reasons to be cheerful: It's payday and it's almost the weekend.

This Saturday see's the end of Belfast Pride week, and we get to do our little rainbow parade around the city centre pissing off the religious right and any other homophobic assholes who take to the streets.

The plan is to dress up as Superheroes, but I might chicken out of that bit, plus I've probably left it too late to hire something, so I'll just go as me. That's super enough, surely?

I just hope the weather improves by then, it's been a wet and miserable week, and as much as I love the parade, I'm not so keen to do it in a downpour!!

Hope life is treating y'all well, and have a Happy Thursday whatever, or whoever, you're doing :peace

Congrats on the 1000th post! But ...
Paint the Sky wrote:The plan is to dress up as Superheroes, but I might chicken out of that bit

You mean, you have a legitimate excuse to dress up like a Superhero - in public - and you're NOT going to do it? That's just not fair ...

I'm down with Mexican Flu, MKF, and we think that sucks, don't we? Not your typical Montezuma's Revenge, but a stuffy head, runny nose, and sinisterly low-but-persistent fever. Haven't been at work for a week, though, so I still had to go in and at least pretend to shuffle things around on my desk. A little DayQuil goes a long way, though, so I actually managed to get a little bit done.

It's pretty bad now, though. Always seems worse in the morning and at night. And with Mrs. Gorn away, I've got no one else to complain to but my fellow Thursday Kittens. Woe is me.

Oh it is a quiet Thursday here in the thread of wonder.

Sigh. Insomnia tapped me on the shoulder and requested a dance. For some reason, we're waltzing.

PtS - I suggest you go as a famed superhero from my youth - Marky Man!

Marky Man was a four year old (back when I was a sage 6 year old) who insisted on wearing a towel around his neck as a cape all the time.

Seriously. All the time. Major drama ensued when the source of all his power made a trip through the washer of doom. His major supernatural power was an ability to hide in the top of the linen closet every single time we played hide and go seek.

I think you could handle that, right?

ktv - you are such a friggin drama queen. Have I mentioned this before? I'm thinking you and your legal eagle brain probably aced that multiple choice bit. You did answer "C" for everything, right?

gorn - Blech. Sorry to hear about the illness. Don't worry, it's probably just some antibiotic resistant superbug you picked up going through the airport. No big deal - pay no attention to the supperating sores fever induced hallucinations. :-D

but not untrue.

and just think, you don't even know me in real life. imagine how dramatic i am in person!

but still. rude!

enjoy your wakefulness, jerk

gorny! feel better! and pts, go rock some wonder woman gear!

leaf, i miss mix tapes so much! i made cds now but it's just not the same. it feels so lazy somehow.

alrighty, i'm putting this thursday (and myself) to bed. have a good one!

This is a slow-to-get rollin' Thursday folks, but I'm still in a dandy mood, as the weather has broken and things have cooled down. I spent Tuesday frantically harvesting and washing for an evening market and damn near killed myself trying to dig potatoes in the mid day heat (100 F). So the eighties sound downright dreamy.

ktv - Wow. I just read the Crappy thread. I hope you are sleeping in today with only minimal stress nausea. I'll second gorn's "fuck'em, you deserve better". Keep your eloquent chin up in the air and move on. Hey! This means you might have some free time to come visit and help me weed and put up my hoophouse, right? :-D

I propose a thursday toast to the ogre:

"May he always fart loudly when approaching the bench". (is that the right lingo??)

Feel free to chime in with others, folks.

Hope everybody out there is surviving the summer heat and their post-vacation mopey-ness,

Boschi

Poor ktv. Wanna job here? I'd hire ya in a heartbeat - your way with words and humour in an eBay advert are the things that made me like you in the first place!

My day has been slow, and hot - and I'm tired and irritable. And lonely, but that's normal.

Nevermind, tomorrow's Friday - that's one good thing about today.

And my secretary bought really nice biscuits for the office, so that's another...

Hey all :bigwave

As Thursdays go, this isn't a great one, sorry MKF. I love my job, but gardening in the pouring rain wasn't what I signed up for, so, Boschi, if ktv doesn't want to do your weeding I'll come and do it for you - lol.

Sorry to hear your bad news on the job front, ktv. I guess your ex-boss is a bigger asshole than you thought. I tried to think of some witty legal lawery pun, but alas, I can think of nothing clever enough, so I found this for you.

Pretend it's your ex-boss, and have some virtual fun.

Hope you're all having a good one!

May you go about weeping and wailing in sackcloth and ashes, O ye armpit of Satan!

Whoops! I inadvertently pressed the "submit" button instead of the preview button, MKF ...

Although I have any number of reasons to be down today, Thursday still managed to work her magic on me - there was an extra Chicken McNugget in my lunch today. No kidding, MKF, that made my day! It was like rainbows and singing animated birds all around, a moment of pure, crystal clear happiness.

There's a lot of Kittens right now out there with sadder stories than I can tell - I hope all of you can find that extra Chicken McNugget soon!

i feel dirty...i haven't posted in awhile! Maybe that's why I have been kind of blah lately! Today was a good Thursday and it's been a short week since I was off on Monday and Tuesday. Today we went to the Cincinatti Museum Center with the kids...they loved it and they were really good. And wow it's almost Friday....I'm sure tomorrow will be hell..the kids will be in full blast b/c they just got to go on a field trip. Last Thursday I was at Gayaoke aka Karaoke...with my friend Kate..I wish she had called to go out again b/c it was awesome to feel comfortable at a bar. When I go to straight bars I feel distant..so it was great experience. I hope she calls this weekend so i don't have to suffer in the straight bars. happy thursday too all and to all a goodnight

Hey there MKF!

ktv - I concur with the gang. That buttnut never deserved you. Ever. Fuck'em indeed. And without sounding like I'm trying to blow sunshine up your ass, I will offer up the fact that the last time I got fired also happened to precipitate one of the best turns my life has ever taken. You just never freaking know how things will play out. And if you need us to go rough him up a little, just say the word.

And so my toast to the ogre:
I wish upon him the following - one of those itches on the bottom of your foot that you can't get to without taking off your shoes in embarrassing public places, a dozen paper cuts, a sneeze that never comes, a host of mosquito bites, a Celine Dion song stuck in his head, a extensive series of meetings with a close-talker with severe halitosis, the sudden onset of "performance" issues (if not already preexisting), a laundry mishap resulting in the shrinkage of all his clothing, a bit of food poisoning, and a tax audit. For starters.

My Thursday has been a good one. Super busy day at work, but some great clients in the mix. Plus I had yesterday off, which always helps. The girl and I have planned a beach day for Saturday (our first of the summer - how sad is that?) so cross your fingers for no thunderstorms. And on the topic of beach - I had one of those crazy "I am getting older and the world is changing" moments whilst purchasing sunblock the other day. SPF 70, MKF? 70?!? Now, I am a pasty white chick and have always needed the hard stuff, but I recall quite clearly when 30 was the top of the scale. When did we add 40 more SPF points (or whatever they are)? Anyway, I bought it. It works. Crazy.

Take care everybody,
L

gorn - a few years ago, Mrs. Leaf and I got 2 extra pirogies in the box. The degree to which it thrilled us was truly unnatural. We danced around the kitchen.

Morning, everybody.

Just a quick check in before I'm out the door - I'll swing back in later in the day I hope.

Anyone else see that commercial with flying sumo wrestlers? I dreamt about that last night.... freaky.

I remember goofing off with my dad when I was a kid - if sumo was on we would face off in the living room and do the whole stomping/leg slapping thing.

Good times.
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.

Yeah, I like that Sumo commercial, too. It debuted during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, didn't it? There were a lot of good commercials that night I'd never seen before, kind of reminded me of the Super Bowl.

I really enjoyed Sumo when I lived in Japan, but it's hard to keep up with now. The whole stomping & slapping, throwing salt, that's half the fun; the matches themselves rarely even last a minute.

I've seen Female Sumo in Hokkaido. Big, big women ... I'm all for equal opportunities and all, but Sumo is probably better left as a male-only sport. Just my opinion. They wear t-shirts, just in case you were wondering. Doesn't make it much better, though.

I'm kind of down today, MKF. I'm glad it's Thursday, don't get me wrong ... but I didn't get to talk to Mrs. Gorn this morning. Didn't talk to her last night, either. We rarely go a day without talking and I miss it. A lot.

47 days until she comes back.

My apologies, MFK, for the lack of Thursday posts. Me thinks it's because I'm still on Hawaiian time.

The vacation was fantastic, and it was so fun and tiresome that I needed another vacation when I got home. Still rockin' the tan though.

We sold our house! Granted, the selling price wasn't what we asked for, but we're happy that it's did and done. I'm gonna miss the place, and it hasn't really sunk in. I think I'll come to terms when I watch the moving guys packing up all our stuff at the end of the month. We're moving in with my partner's parents, and though I'm not looking forward to living with them (everyone's got weird quirks, right? Right?), I'm hoping to cash in on the financial freedom not having a mortgage is going to bring. Maybe I'll even hop back over to Kauai.

Peace out, Kittens.

is it horrible that i just can't get it up for thursday today? i missed thursday last week and don't particularly feel the thursday joy today. sigh.

i was working this week on a document coding project through the legal temp agency i used to work fir. unfortunately (for me), the clients decided to try settling the case and so they put a halt to the coding project. so i'm out of work after only like 11 hours. blech. on the upside, i have an interview tomorrow with a small law office. the salary structure is a little weird, so i'm not entirely sold on the place but a job is a job, right?

but it's thursday and i don't want to think about the heavy things right now.

the girl is taking next week off to visit her folks in california, but she decided to take tomorrow off as well. so we have a dinner date tonight and a sleep-in date for the morning (so much more fun than one or both of us always having to be up at like 6am to go to work). i've promised to watch the us/russia women's water polo match with her. should be interested.

congrats on the house sale, fooy! you'll go from strangers wandering into your bedrooms at all hours to getting busted in on by the in-laws! :wink

gorn: wish i could give you a big hug and come hang out for a bit till the mrs got back. i feel so bad for you right now i'd be willing to bust out the beer enema and learn about WOW (obviously, boschi will refuse to attend this soiree on the b.e. grounds, i'm sure).

okay, that's about all i can muster today. i'm going to make some lunch and figure out a way to legally sell a kidney.

happy thursday, peeps.

It's a soggy Thursday, MKF. Or at least I am a soggy Leaf on this particular Thursday. Big cloud burst as I was heading home. But get this - as I was en route, this elderly gentleman offered me his umbrella. He was just gonna give it to me. New Yorkers are so freaking sweet sometimes. I declined cuz I actually really enjoy a good dousing, but how about that anyway? Kinda made my day.

So in a few minutes I am heading over to a friend's house to watch some pint sized gymnasts defy the laws of physics. Looking forward to it, although I really do miss the 10 pt scale.

Houseless Foo - Congrats!

ktv - Step away from the cutlery and keep your hands off your kidneys! :shy

Lonley gorny - My heartfelt condolences.

Happy Thursday all! I'm gonna go put some dry clothes on now.
