Holley, can you believe I had thunderboomers today? I couldn't either, but I heard 2, maybe 3 and we might have more :o

lol, please note that when I said thunderboomers I did mean thunderstorms. The kind in the sky. Weather stuff.

Y'all are crazy. Haven't you read the FAQs? Matters of ASS are strictly prohibited. Except on Pens, and only then if proper disclaimers are used.

Oh, God, xita, thunderboomers in SoCal? Can we confirm this with other SoCal Kittens? Otherwise, I am not inclined to believe that was really actual weather you were having. I know it rained there once, because I saw it, but that was the only time ever. And I heard no thunder.

i spoke to my mom last night who lives in southern california (near riverside) and they were having freak thunder/hailstorms and a small tornado (?!?!) had developed in our town and they were on a tornado watch for a while. there was also some snow in the deserty hills nearby. i told her it must be the apocalypse and it was nice knowing her.

See, I wasn't lying! It was 100 degrees last weekend, today it was raining all day, with thunder yesterday. End of days indeed.

Geh. Morning. Grunt.

Hey, does anyone else now get mad when they hear the lyrics:

"I don't care if monday's blue
Tuesday's grey and wednesday too
Thursday i don't care about you
It's friday i'm in love
Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn't even start
It's friday i'm in love"

Thursday I don't care about you??? :wtf

Tis blasphemy!

I'm blinking into wakefulness, getting ready to head out to the field.
I spent my Memorial Day (this past Monday) harvesting and prepping veggies so I could try a new, Tuesday evening market. It was a bit of a bust, as folks don't really know about the market, but fun too.
I was sampling out my salad turnips, which I know sound uninspiring, but are really mild, sweet and good (raw or cooked). Generally if someone tried them they bought them.
Best quote of the day? A woman and her teenage sons bought some and walked away munching on them and I heard her exclaim, as she waved her half eaten turnip around:
"This is better than ice cream!"

Yes, seriously. I can't make shit like that up. I apparently grow some wicked good turnips. :cool

I'm fairly sure no one else will find this as funny as I do, but I'm thinking I'll order the following t-shirt:

http://www.torsopants.com/store/product.php?productid=5062

Okay. It is getting light outside. I must vamoose.

Happy Thursday all.
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.

that t-shirt is awesome! i have the one that says "trust me, i'm a lawyer."

my thursday is pretty blah. mind you, i've only been awake for about three hours so far, but it's cold and cloudy today and i'm just so over the weather in the pacific northwest. i'd very much like to be partaking of one of floyd's 15-hour sleep-ins right about now.

i mentioned this in the "what are you doing" thread yesterday, but i think it bears repeating since i'm still so amused. i work downtown and there's another office building next to mine, close enough that i can see into the adjacent offices, but far enough away that i can see into a lot of them both up and down from my eight floor office. i spend enough time zoning at my desk and staring blankly out the window that i've gotten fairly familiar with my neighbors in the next building over. there's the guy who i watch have breakfast at his desk every morning at 8:30 exactly (and always the same assortment of things packages in separate little tupperware containers), the woman who polishes her fingernails at her desk at least twice a week, a couples counselor (she only sees clients in pairs and they usually look pretty displeased with each other), and an assortment of other characters.

so yesterday i'm looking out the window for rain and notice this guy one floor down and to the left. he's sitting at his desk (watching porn, i think... i could see a little bit of his monitor and there was video playing) and totally going to town on himself! i was simultaneous intrigued, impressed and repulsed. at least he's making good use of his downtime, right? i've had office sex (though not solo) and i'm sure someone in the building next to my ex's got an eye-full at some point, so i can't talk too much shit. it was pretty funny to behold though (especially when he stood up and spanked his own ass! LOL) but i only watched for about a minute out of fear of inadvertantly catching the "money shot" - that would have made me ralph (clearly, one of the reasons i'm a 'mo).

anyway, it's nice to know there are freaks of all colors and stripes out there. feels a little less lonely :wink

i'm going to try trudging through the rest of my day with a little less crank since 1) i brought a yummy lunch to work today, and 2) i have thursday night nookie to look forward to. the gray skies be damned!

happy thursday, peeps.

Happy Thursday all,

I love the beet shirt. Boschi must have the beet shirt. Proceed with purchase please.

I'm having a good day so far today. Work is starting a little later than usual, and there was time between my morning private practice client and laundry for a nice walk around the hood. The weather today is gorgeous (sorry ktv). Sunny and cool.

Yesterday should be marked as an important date in history. Please take note. Yesterday, Mrs. Leaf and I finally polished off the last of the scotch tape stash that her wacky grandmother gave her when she first went away to college. That's 11 years of scotch tape, people. 11 years! Wacky grandmother is known for stockpiling, and then gifting said stockpiles. There were a number of years when we never once had to buy pasta for ourselves. There were Costco-sized mayonnaise jars stuffed full of tea bags. And the four pounds of frozen american cheese took an awful long time to get through too. But nothing quite matched the scotch tape. Sigh... it's the end of an era.

I'm hoping for a slow day at work today since somehow I appear to have agreed to work both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Opps. It would be nice to get home early tonight, so here's hoping for a mostly empty schedule. Cross your fingers for me.

Take care everybody,
Leafy

I could do with a little less busy Thursday next time, MKF ...

Leaf, I had my fingers crossed for you today. If you got home early tonight, it probably has something to do with the 3 hours I loaned you out of my own schedule. Even my Japanese co-workers left before me today, which is sad. I looked out the window hoping to see random people getting their freak on, but alas! I don't work in a big office building like ktv - all I saw was some guy riding up and down the field on a big tractor.

I don't know, Boschi might find that kind of exciting. It was a red tractor, if that helps. Tires were kinda muddy, too.

Those were horrible sentiments regarding Thursday, by the way. Made me sad, until ... I happened to be sitting at someone else's desk, and they had one of those big desk calendars. Hadn't been changed since March, though, and my eye caught the phrase "Holy Thursday (Mexico)." How about that!! March the 20th was Holy Thursday in Mexico!! I had no idea! It's the Thursday before Good Friday, but I confess I know nothing else about it. I'm always on the phone with the Ford plant down in Hermosillo, though, so next time I'll make a point of asking them about it. Who knows? Might become my next big vacation destination - Mexico for Holy Thursday!

So that put me in a much better mood. Until it began to sink in that I wouldn't be leaving until late. Ah, well. Thursday's go like that sometimes, don't they, MKF?

Something I'm looking forward to this weekend, MKF? - reading the Neverland update! This is a pretty big deal for me.

Something I'm not looking forward to this weekend, MKF? - going to see Sex & the City opening night with Mrs. Gorn. This is a pretty big deal for her.

Huh? Where are you guys? IT'S THURSDAY! And I actually get a real Thursday this time!!! I have Saturday off this week to attend (and film) a friend's wedding in the afternoon and celebrate my partner's birthday in the evening. Yay bottomless margaritas! And Sunday we're helping out our new homeowning friends (I like to call them homos) paint their living room. It'll be a nice distraction from the stress of our first open house (also this weekend, check out our place here)

Looks like it's going to be a pretty chill day at work, nice and sunny with minimal labor.

So where is everyone? I need my produce update, girl drama, and all the other useless information I love reading on Thursdays. :)

I'm working, MKF!

Actually, I've got some time to kill before my 2pm meeting (where we all sit around and talk about how cool Thursday is!). I don't know what's going on, but I don't think I've had more than two posts this whole week so far. Shameful.

I cannot tell a lie - I'm trying to limit my posts so I stay a TROLL HAMMER forever!

I don't know how it happened, but I've been increasingly busy at work since about March/April. Something about "with great power comes great responsibility," or something stupid like that. I kind of thought I'd get used to the heavier work load, but it just keeps coming and coming and coming. And all just to get a bigger desk, MKF ...

I meant to talk about this in the "How Was Your Weekend, MKF?" thread, but the "It's Just Thursday, MKF!" thread came sooner ... I took Mrs. Gorn to see the "Sex & the City" movie last Friday. Opening night. We got all dressed up, went to the Japanese resaturant for sushi, then stood in line for about an hour to get good seats (I'd ordered tickets on-line the day before). Not the biggest fan of the series, myself, but it was a fun movie. If you had even mild interest in the show, I'd recommend it.

For the record, hot buttery popcorn is a surprisingly good follow-up to sushi.

Hi y'all, this is my 700th post and I saved it for Thursday MKF!!

Today a friend and I were supposed to go to our local leisure centre after work to use their fitness suite. We have been putting it off for weeks, and today was the day we were definately going. I even brought my gym gear and had every intention of going, honest, but then I got a text from her saying she was going to be really busy in work. Like me she is a gardener and she said she had twelve flower beds to rotovate so could we go on Monday instead.

Well, as disappointed as I was not go and get sweaty and sore I told her fine, Monday was good, we will go then.

I have four days to think of a good excuse to put it all off for another day ;-)

Why I want to do this god alone knows, even reading the fitness thread here leaves me tired - lol

Other than that my Thursday has been pretty routine.

Big Brother 9 starts in the uk tonight, actually right now, so I'm just about to sucked into the blackhole of television hell for the summer. I swear it is the biggest pile of poo and I tell me myself not to watch, but it's like a car crash, I just have to :paranoid

Have a good Thursday people.

happy thursday, people!

i spent the better part of my morning back in urgent care getting xrays and my ankle wrapped. i'm totally gimped up and have to see a specialist tomorrow. woohoo!

i'm surprisingly short on girl drama this week. thankfully. there's just been the usual good stuff with the one girl i'm still seeing. sleep overs, flirty text messages, a little pampering given my gimpy state. it's been nice.

one of my friends from back home in so cal is coming up to portland for the weekend. she's thinking of moving up here since i've convinced her that portland is all about the "fresh start," so she's going to come check it out. i hope i am less gimpy soon, cause we have got some fun shenanigans planned.

hope you guys with the radishes, bottomless margaritas, wedding showers, fitness-seeking, and SATC-watching dates have a good one! the rest of you, too.

p.s. i really think we need to organize a thursday-lovin' kitten soiree, btw.

Ah, the Thursday thread at last! Sweet haven!

It has been one brutally long day for me, MKF. In the middle of a rather brutally long week. Preceding a brutal weekend. I'm feeling kinda whupped.
But Mrs. Leaf ordered us some nice greasy chinese food and I'm hoping lo mein will cure what ails me. Or maybe lo mein and a little Jamesons...

Tomorrow after work I head off to the wilds of Connecticut for Mrs. Leaf's sister's Evil Wedding Shower (the one that I am looking forward to much in the way one looks forward to spending the day at the DMV, a tax audit, or possibly a root canal.) Mrs. Leaf's sister is not in and of herself evil. I actually love her dearly. It's just the shower that has morphed into a beastly nightmare. I have a new plan of attack though, and I'm feeling good about it. Ever since I decided that my brother was Superman on the harpsichord, I have been into making up superheroes for myself to be when I have to do things I don't want to. It lifts the spirits a bit. So tomorrow I will be Sweet and Approachable Lesbo Gal - femmier than you thought she would be and able to leap closed minds and awkward questions in a single bound! If only I could wear a cape.

Is Boschi lost in the radishes? Do we need to send a search party? Surely her chickens would let us know if she was in trouble (Lassie style) right?

Foo - Hope you have more fun at your wedding related festivities than me!
PtS - Enjoy your vixenhood. We knew you had it in you.
gorn - We need to stop working so hard. Thoughts? Suggestions?
ktv - Sorry about your gimpiness. That bites. I am so down with the Thursday soirree though. If any of you find yourselves in NY, I have an almost comfortable sofabed with your name on it.

Party on kittens,
Leaf

Anyone else feel funny about closing the Thursday thread one week and opening it the next? Oh well, here I am anyway. :-D

Today is one seriously pleasant day. The heat finally broke yesterday (the difference between 85 and 98 degrees is so very profound) and we've got the windows open again with some quality breeze moving through them. And the sun is out. In a friendly way rather than a beat you into a lump of fried submission way. Good stuff.

My work shift today starts and ends a couple hours earlier than usual and I am pleased about that as well. It's nice to get home when it's still light out. Mrs. Leaf and I have a walk in the park date waiting for us when we both get home tonight. Thank you again Frederick Law Olmstead!

I've been doing a lot of vacation fantasizing lately - tis the season, right? I have a week and a half off at the end of August when Mrs. Leaf is on break from school. We've got no budget for actual travel, but we're going to do one of those things where you tell everyone that you are leaving town but then you don't. I'm looking forward to it tremendously. And I think we will fit in a few nice little day trips to the beach and such as well. It should be lovely.

In the spirit of that, I pose the following Thursday questions:
Where would you go on vacation if you had absolutely no constraints (money, time, chicken care, etc...) ?
and
What is your favorite vacationy thing to do right where you are?

Ooh, Thursday sorta snuck up me this week, in fact, until someone in work asked if it was pay week I hadn't even twigged it was Thursday, I thought it was Wednesday.

Leaf wrote:Thank you again Frederick Law Olmstead!

I had to do a double take with that. Not often you get people thanking landscape architects, but the man was a genius.

What would the people of NY do without Central Park, or Bostonians without the Emerald Necklace?

Vacation location? Mmm, lets see...it would have to be Alaska at the top of the list. I'd love to see the aurora borealis up there, go whale watching and hiking in the last great wilderness.

At home type vacations (that feels weird typing the V word, but when in rome) day trips, picnics and lazing around the house sleeping late and vegging out!

Happy Thursday, Thurskateers

agreed. that's why they're called "staycations." and when the 'mos go on holiday it's a "gaycation." i love silly little word play.

my thursday is completely unremarkable. i'm still hobbling about in my aircast. still toiling at the job i hate. still freaking out about the upcoming bar exam (and slacking horribly on the studying. still engaging in scandalous and salacious activity with the new girl (tonight might involve her in outfits of my choosing...).

i'm going on "vacation" on the 28th, but i'm really just going back to new england to visit friends, hook-up with an old flame, and clean out my storage unit. not quite the relaxing tropical vacay i'd prefer. last year at this time i was just getting home from key west. i wouldn't mind another trip to that neck of the woods... booze, sand, water, and hot women? sign me up. although i might like a similar vacation with a bit more historical sightseeing involved. i'm a nerd.

as for time-off at home, i generally like to have a day dedicated to staying in jammies watching movies or buffy, plus small little day trips or activities around town. nothing too exciting.

happy thursday, people!

It's a beautiful day here in SF, nice and sunny. I've finally crawled out of the basement I've been working in all day, and am enjoying a somewhat leisurely lunch. I'm going to refrain from saying that the rest the day will be cake, since only mere seconds after I posted that last time the shit hit the fan and I didn't get off work until 6:30 PM (I start at 6:30 AM :happy ). So yeah, tons of work, I'll never get it done. Might as well sleep in my truck.

Oooh vacations (or gaycations . . . heh, I'm stealing that ktv), I'm counting down the days until our great return to Kauai. Sadly, we won't be staying at our tropical bungalow of hot gay love, like we did on our honeymoon, but the hotel we booked will suffice. We're going with friends, so that should make a fun trip. A few days in Kauai and then over to Maui to meet up with more friends, I can't wait. On a side note, one of my good guy friends will be proposing to his long time girlfriend the first night we're there, so hopefully she says yes and doesn't fuck up the rest of the gaycation for the rest of us.

As for a dream getaway? One of those National Geographic Around the World Tours that take 2 months and costs the same as a private college education.

Leaf - have a nice stroll with the wifey
PTS - woo-hoo payday!
ktv - good luck with the studying and HEY OOH outfits. ;)

I made it to Thursday, MKF!

I missed a few days of work this week due to some kind of horrible plague, the feverish hurts-to-swallow kind (my feet are both OK, though, thank God). My folks are coming this weekend and I can't afford to be sick while they're here. Literally. My mother had a liver transplant about a year ago, everything went well & she's doing great, but the anti-rejection medicine takes a toll on her immune system. She's not supposed to be around anyone sick, particularly not if it's communicable.

So ... I'm at the doctor's office for the first time in AGES. I loathe doctors and hospitals, but I had to get this sickness knocked out (or at least under control) before my folks show up. I told the doctor about my Mom's condition and he said it would be no problem. Gave me a megadose shot of antibiotics and - just to be on the safe side - a steroid shot. I don't recall which one it was, but one of them hurt like a MOTHERFUCKER!!! I do not use that word lightly, either. Burned like a hot needle going in (as opposed to a cold needle, I suppose ...), and for about two hours afterwards it felt like someone had busted me in the arm with a baseball bat. I kept looking at my arm expecting to see a hideous bruise, but there was nothing.

So why go to all that trouble? Why not ask the folks to come down next week? This kind of ties in with the Thursday Vacation Game we've got going. I'm a little embarassed I haven't talked about this earlier, MKF, but ... next week Mrs. Gorn and I are going to Japan. Mrs. Gorn is going over on business for four months. Yes, that's 4 months ... actually works about to be closer to three & a half, though. The company knows this is a hell of an imposition, but we agreed to it because it was a great career opportunity for her. And they were throwing a veritable mountain of money at her. Also part of the deal, they're paying for us both to go over early so we can take a vacation together before the long absence.

Well, once word got out I was going to be in Japan for a week on vacation, people started coming around my desk ... "While you're there, can you take care of fill-in-the-blank? Can you check on this-that-and-the-other? Can you meet with Mr. So-and-so?" Finally, the plant manager came to me and said, why not tack on an extra 10 days and make it a working vacation?

Hooray for me.

To be fair, we're going to do a bunch of vacationy things. We're going to stay with her folks for a few days. There will probably be numerous parties of heavy drinking and heavier karaoke. We'll go to Tokyo Disneyland, probably spend a couple of days at a hot springs resort in the mountains. And those last few days before I go back to the States, I foresee a lot of hot, desperate nookie.

While we're gone, my folks are coming down to house-sit for us, look after all our critters. Which is why I need to shake this disease afflicting me in a big hurry, because it's already Thursday, MKF!

Although I'm very much looking forward to being in Japan again, both Mrs. Gorn and I are little apprehensive about it. We've never been apart that long since the very first night we met. Oh, I suppose it might be OK in the beginning - I'll have all my buddies over, drink a lot of beer, order pizza everynight, have unfettered access to World of Warcraft for hours upon hours at a time every weekend ... But all that will probably get old after two or three months.

No, I'm kidding. I expect it to be hell right from Day 1, MKF. I expect I'll come moping around the Kittenboard a lot more often, looking for a little solace and pity. Mrs. Gorn says the time will pass quickly, but I don't think so. I don't think it could pass quickly enough if I blinked my eyes and it was over. It's going to be a long, long, long

long

long

three & a half months, MKF.

EDIT - Outfits, ktv? What a great idea! In addition to your vacation (Japan for me), your local staycation (forgot to answer - the various historic bourbon distilleries just north of me in central Kentucky) ... what's your favourite outfit to see your partner in?

cheerleader outfit. my hands-down favorite.

drool.

i think it's because 1) i'm a dirty old lady and like younger women (of legal age!) and 2) the first girl i ever realized having a thing for was a cheerleader friend of mine in high school. all pervy thoughts lead back to her and that uniform on fridays.

i've never had a girl in a garter belt and have made a request for that. so we'll see. i kind of want to see her in her soccer outfit tonight for some reason. hahaha.

ETA: hope you feel better, gorn-y! stop by portland on your way back from japan! we have beer!

Ooh Japan! Aside from being away from your wife, that sounds really cool! My dad was stationed at Yokota Air Force Base (an hour or so away from Tokyo) back when I was in high school, so I got to live there for 3 years. I would love to go back. Every year a friend of mine goes back and I ask her to bring me some Georgia coffee. Love that stuff!! And oh the shenanigans we got ourselves into at Tokyo Disneyland . . . on a church group outing even. Ah, memories. I hope you enjoy the time there with your wife!

Gorn off to Japan, Foo off to Hawaii, ktv and her dress-up fantasies getting a run out - where do I sign up for a life ;-)

Gorn, I hope whatever dread lurgy you have is cleared up before your Mom arrives. Have a great time with Mrs. Gorn in the land of the rising sun and hopefully come back choc full of nice memories to feed off for the months you'll be apart.

Bugger, technically it's friday here and I feel kinda funny posting as it's after midnight. But it should be ok as long as you don't feed it or get it wet ;-)

vay-cay-shun? what is this word? I don't understand. And time without chickens (or beets)? This does not compute.

Hmmm... let me think.... I think I want a culinary vacation. Definitely with the gf - our love is of the heart... and stomach. And yes, I'm a dork, I'd like to do some farm visits. In Spain. Or possibly Italy. There would be much wine tasting, a little bit of biking/hiking, and an abundance of plentiful tables of food. I'd like to take a little time to take pictures of olive trees and also mess around with drawing/painting images of them (and anything else that struck my fancy). There would be at least 4 days in each location, and no stressful schedule - plenty of times for naps and nookie.

I know, I know... dreadfully yuppie-ish and sort of public television travel showish. But I'd like it. Ask me again tomorrow and I'd probably say something way cooler.

I do think I might like to learn something new of the vacation - some fun skill or knack or even just ideas. I haven't decided what yet.

Damn. Now I kinda want to go on that vacation, which is not bloody likely.

Or hey! We could all just take our imaginary trips to Japan and meet the gorns for booze and merriment...

gorn, dear gorn - Feel better. Enjoy the unending W.O.W. Sorry you will be sans wife for so long, but I send hearty good wishes for the goodbye sex. And you can pick up some of those curry cubes you talk about and perhaps mail a few to me? I can't seem to find them here. :whistle

You with the desperate sex, ktv with the outfits (cheerleaders? Really? seriously? huh.), Leaf with the park walking dates (that came out wrong...) - I'm almost feeling jealous. My girl is currently in a board meeting. It is 7:20 pm. Her first meeting today was at 7 am.

I feel like a slacker with my ten hour day. A lonely slacker. A lonely slacker who might feel better if her gf showed up on the porch dressed like a dominatrix on casual friday..... ahem.

Allrighty! Instead, I shall start folding laundry! So there!

Happy Thursday folks.

Well my day was kind of crazy, I think the kids must have thought that tonight was the full moon. Well I'm off to play some Grand Theft Auto 4, I could get lost in that little city called Liberty for hours and hours. Well have a great Thursday everyone...come out come out wherever you are!

oh geez, i totally didn't even realize that today was thursday! i feel like i've committed some massive sin against the day. thank the thursday gods gorn is in japan and hopefully will never know of this heresy.

my thursday blows. chunks. i went to the doctor today and found out that i have to spend at least another month in the aircastand do twice weekly physical therapy for the next six weeks. he thinks i might still need surgery before this whole ordeal is over. blech. i was really hoping this thing would be better by the time i go to massachusetts on the 28th. alas.

in some good news, i'm going to finally have my own place next month! oddly enough, it's the same place i'm living now (with my brother and his family) but they just rented a house and so i'm taking over the lease on their apartment. very exciting stuff. i don't know if my friend j* is going to move up here or not, so i've started advertising for a housemate. should be interesting. i told e* we'd finally get to get it on above ground (both of our bedrooms are in the basements of our respective residences) and she was quite excited - though mostly about getting to use the bathroom in the middle of the night with no kids in the house.

okay, back to work for me. hope the rest of you thursday slackers come out of hiding!
