I could really use a waffle about now.

Thanks for the link Leaf - I must wait until my ship comes in before I buy my waffle truck. Or perhaps I could retrofit the ship and just have a waffle ship....

Well, the day is bright and I am headed outside for the day. Yesterday I was ridiculously productive and am still pleased with myself. Much hauling and tilling, bed preparation and seeding. So I don't feel too guilty for heading out to look for mushrooms this morning. I think this will be one of my last chances for this year.

The chicken girls say "cheep cheep".

Have a good Thursday, all.

my thursday has consisted of 1) the cats having worms, 2) calling out of work, 3) corralling said fuckers up, 4) cursing my sister-in-law and her new kitten which caused the grossness, 5) cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, 6) fumigating house (not while me and said cats are in it), and 7) waiting around for the vet appointment this afternoon. grrr.

crappy week, crappy thursday, crappy everything.

i'm going to go be a crankypants elsewhere so as not to further poison this sacred space.

hope you all are having a good one.

Alas, my Thursday is also wallowing in crapulence.

There are few things I dread more than job-searching, and that's what I'm doing. I'm crap at selling myself, plus I've no prior experience with the kinds of job that I want, plus I was out of the workforce for six years...

Anyway, just got home. Time to start selling stuff online in the hopes that I'll be able to pay my bills this month. :/

Hoping very much that Thursday is better for most of you.

I had a problem like that too, but the internet is full of wonderfull guides on how to "sell yourself" google around, practice and give it a try: it might just work ;) (it did for me anyway :) )

Hello MKF! :)

Thursday, May 8th.
Sort of Holiday here. As in, day off. Well for most people.
Sitxy three years ago, the WW2 was officially ended. The Truce was signed. (Well it is true for Europa, as I know that the USA and Japan were still at war).

So today it was sun, commemorations here and there, flowers deposited on Memorial Monuments, and a feel like Sunday.
Plus many persons will use this Thursday asan excuse to not work on Friday, will enjoy normally there weekends, and will not work on Monday as it is a holiday too. (But a real Holyday, as in Holy. And a holiday worked by many people for "solidarity).

So this thursday is a very good one in France.

Happy Thursday to all!!!

It was GORGEOUS here today so we spent most of the day lying on the grass studying/tanning. Then I got to drive home with the roof of my car down. Breezey. :)

Good day. Pity exams start in a week.

It's Sunburn Thursday MKF!

The weather has been fantastic here in Belfast too. Yesterday was 22 degrees, today a bit cooler at 18, but that breeze in the air was deceptive and now my upper arms are lobster red and throbbing like hell. You'd think at my age I would know better than to expose bits of me that usually never see the light of day.

But what the hell, in a day or two it'll cool down and then the ritual peeling and itching will begin. I live in futile hope that one day this redhead will tan :lol

To all you Thursketeers having a not so good one, hope it improves for ya, and ktv, the worm thing, I sympathise big style with you. I'm not a usually squeamish girly girl, but when my cat got worms one time, eww, not nice. I totally freaked out at the sight of them.

Is it Thursday already, MKF? I'm sorry to hear some of the sad stories other Kittens are having out there ... I can relate, though. Last couple of weeks have been pretty tough around here, too. I don't think I can compete toe-to-toe with anal worms in your cat, though. ktv probably gets the Suckiest Thursday award this week.

As bad as it is seems, though, I'm here to tell you that it's not ALL bad. Listen to me, Kittens ... it's Thursday! If nothing else is going good just now, at least take to heart that it's not Monday anymore. Today could suck AND be Monday! Instead, you're going to wake up tomorrow morning with an entire weekend starting to shine over the edge of the horizon. If you can make it to Thursday, as shitty as today might have been, you can certainly stick it out through Friday. Friday is a breeze. My grandmother can get through Friday.

You don't have worms, do you, MKF ... ?

On a lighter note, I have a quick question about this emoticon -->
:banana
I always thought the Dancing Banana was kinda fun, albeit a bit goofy, but until only recently I had no idea there was any more to it. I JUST discovered that this Dancing Banana is somehow associated with the "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" song. If this is something stupid that everyone already knows, please forgive me ... but what does the banana have to do with peanut butter & jelly? Perhaps I'm listening too closely, but there's also a line later in the song that says, "Peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat." Why a baseball bat? Is it some kind of gangster thing? I don't get it ...

My boss has left for the day, and I'm going to sneak out now, too! If anyone tries to stop me, I'm gonna peanut-butter & jelly 'em with my baseball bat!

Hang in there, Kittens!

p.s. Is looking for mushrooms really something to reward one's self with?

lol, yeah, peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat is...I don't know...I've always thought it was just another example of people with too much time on their hands, which is how 90% of the internet gets made, so it's not surprising that it would be paired with a dancing banana. If that song came along these days, it would go with something like Dramatic Chipmunk or any of a quintillion lolcats. Or maybe the lolrus. Noooooo, they be stealin mah peanutbutterjellybat!!!!

Who knows how this stuff gets started or what it means or why it resonates the way it does. It's fascinating. I heart teh intertubez!!!1!1!!!111

I am sorry for the suckitude of some of your Thursdays, Kittens.

My Thursday's been a'ight. We had some nice thunderboomers this afternoon. Tornado sirens went off a couple times. Got lots of rain.

My TiVo died! :cry :cry :cry After speaking with TiVo and Sony, apparently the modem in the box finally gave out. Ten years, she's been calling and calling and downloading and downloading and I guess she just decided she'd had enough. I was very sad. But when I found out that a new TiVo would only cost about a hundred dollars (after the rebate), I rejoiced and went to the store and I am not even going to miss ONE thing that was on my To Do List. Ugly Betty starts in less than an hour! Yay!

I did have some stuff in the Now Playing List that I was keeping, but it's all stuff that's actually out on DVD (old eps of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Drawn Together, etc.), so I am not considering it a great loss.

Someone mentioned being in the job market. That's me, too. I just graduated (omg, fiiiiiiiiiiinally!) and I won't be starting grad school til Fall of next year (fingers crossed I get IN in the first place), so I needs me a job for the next 15 months or so. I am bored out of my fucking SKULL right now and have been picking up extra shifts at this place where I volunteer. It's nice to have that to do and I enjoy it immensely, but...I gots to get PAID!

Best of luck to everyone who's looking for work.

Best of luck to everyone who's not looking for work.

Best of luck to everyone who's looking for waffles. If the Waffle House closest to me weren't so packed all the time and if the employees didn't spend the majority of their time screaming at each other, I'd go right this very second and have a waffle. Waffles are great. I like to eat the roundness of them away until they are square, then I eat rows one block thick around all the sides until I reach the center. I probably have OCD. I eat sammiches that way, too.

Happy Thursday, Thursketeers! :heart

Surprise, MKF! It's already Thursday!

Is it my imagination, or has it been raining for the last 2 weeks or so? Last year my lawn all but turned to dust and blew away, now it grows up to my knees in a week! I know we need the rain around here after last year, but honestly! Spread it out a little! No need to make up for it all at once!

One of our cats, Jose, had surgery earlier this week. He had a tumor removed from his ear which may or may not be cancerous (we'll find out next week), and while the vet was cleaning his ears he discovered a polyp in his OTHER ear which needed to be removed. Poor guy. They gave us some pain medication for him which I'm thinking might have been a little strong - it zonks him for almost the whole day, and when he does get up his back legs don't work quite right (kind of like me after too much J.T.S. Brown). It's funny to watch, but breaks your heart a little at the same time.

I don't know how or when it happened, but I've been annoyingly busy here at work for quite a few weeks now. It's really cutting into my Kittenboard browsing time.

There was something I wanted to say about Boschi's chickens a week or two ago, but I can't remember what it was now ...

Well, anyway. This week went by fast, MKF, at least for me. And I have absolutely nothing at all planned for this weekend.

Isn't that great?

I love Thursday. Almost makes the rest of the week worth it.

oh thursday, am i ever glad to see you!

the ogre (aka my douchebage boss) is basically out of the office until tuesday morning. so today is glorious! he has also decided to take a vacation during the fourth of july week, so it was decided that i should take one them, too (instead of after the bar exam in july). so i'm going back to massachusetts to visit my friends, celebrate the 4th in the cradle of liberty, and clean out my storage unit and get everything ready to be moved out here to portland. i can't wait!! i miss my homies so much. i just have to make sure i get a lot (a lot!) of studying in between now and then so i can enjoy my time out there guilt-free.

in more exciting thursday news, my homestate of california extended equal marriage rights to same-sex couples today! i remember the day the goodridge decision came down in massachusetts while i was living there. my contracts professor was co-counsel on the case. it was such an overwhelming and amazing day. i'm sure californians are feeling similarly. yay!

i don't have much on tap this weekend, besides studying and hanging with the girl a bit. my harem has been whittled down to one girl for a variety of reasons, one being that i finally cut she-who-must-not-be-named out of my life enitrely and the other being my limited free-time as a result of bar studying. i am totally cool with that. part of me would like a total moratorium on dating but those are hard to get out of. so, casual fun with the hot labor-politico it is!

gorn, i must register my objection to your demanding work schedule of late.

hope you all are having a lovely thursday!

gorn: Sorry to hear about your cat. My dog had a tumor on his leg removed last year, and we had to give him pain meds as well, it was kinda funny to see him all drugged out his mind, but at the same time, sad as well. He had a cast on his leg that the vets wrapped up in smiley face gauze.

ktv:Is it sad that your lovelife is like my daily dose of soap opera? :)

It's hotter than fuck out in the city today. No soothing fog or cool breeze to cool me down. My last job brings me nothing to do, so I sit and surf the web on my replacement laptop. Technically, this is my Wednesday, so I have a few days before I can enjoy my weekend. Which makes me wonder if I should be posting this tomorrow instead of today?

My wife is going away with her mother this weekend, to Yosemite, so I get the house all to myself, which would be great if there wasn't baseboards to paint, floors to clean, and furniture to move. We're hoping to get our place on the market by the beginning of June, so there's a rush on all the household crap I have to do.

Anyways, hope all you kittens out there have a great Thursday and a great weekend!

to keep the saga going for you on this hot day, foo: i just found out that the youngster i had the torrid affair with last summer/fall may be in new england when i go to visit next month, so i might have to squeeze in a quick visit with her. heh. i'm such a dirty old lady.

Oh dear god. Am I the sensible one? Say it ain't so ktv, say it ain't so!

Wheeeeeee!

Tomorrow, MKF, will be f-ing insane. My field has suddenly decided it needs to start producing vegetables. And those vegetables need to be harvested when it is still cool tomorrow morning, then washed, prepped and packed for market.

What I want to know is who planted all those fucking radishes. I have more god damned radishes than anyone with a lick of sense would even contemplate growing. I swear I didn't plant this many. I'm relatively sure I can't sell this many. And I'm absolutely positive I don't want to wash and bundle the three large boxes of them I harvested today.

Ah- well - an abundance of produce is a pretty awesome thing to be bitching about.

ETA: Yeehaw, California!

Cheers,

Happy Thursday peeps!

What does one do with radishes?

A big Whoot! for California. Methinks ktv must be some kind of secret gay marriage catalyst and should consider taking her charmed self and putting in some time in a few other states. You know, share the mojo and all.

My family is flying into town next week for my brother's long awaited graduation. He is getting his DMA in harpsichord (we specialize in uber practical degrees in my family - cough BFA in dance cough) just a couple teeny tiny years after his anticipated finish date. The whole crew is excited for him and quite proud. Oddly enough my parents make very good house guests, so I am looking forward to the whole shindig.

Ooooh! A pot pie just came out of the oven with my name on it (not literally - although that would make me feel super special) so I am outa here. Be good everybody!

Thursday love all around,

Hello hello Thursday. You certainly are starting early and thundery this morning....

My radishes are laying in wait for me yet again, hunkered down in the soil, eager for an opportunity to spring up and demand washing.

Damned things.

What does one do with radishes? Oh, slice them up on a salad, or sprinkle with a little salt and eat as a snack (this is the proper "country" thing to do). You could add them to a slaw, or use the hotter varieties to add a little crunch and kick to just about anything. Pickling is always a possibility (more for the hot kinds). Recently, people have mentioned sauteeing them lightly.

I have only one small event of note to report from this week. I was out in my field Sunday, weeding, when I heard what I took to be some sort of machinery/humming noise. It sounded sort of electrical, which was odd. When I finally looked up I realized that a swarm of bees was making it's way across my field, flying pretty much directly over/around me. Very wild. And potentially a little creepy, if I hadn't learned a little bit about swarms a couple years ago. When they swarm they are so distracted by hormones and protecting their new queen that they aren't really interested in anything else at all - including stinging.

It is apparently swarm season. I just hope they stayed close enough to my field so that the new hive can pollinate my plants.

Bzzzzzz

I must prepare for rain soaked radish harvesting now.

Happy Thursday all.

Morning folks!

I am feeling chock full of the gratitude that my Thursday got to start off with some sleeping in and a semi-lazy morning sipping coffee and chatting up Mrs. Leaf.

Last night we drove out to Long Island (through some traffic that caused us to rename the LIE the LIP for Long Island Parking lot, seeing as there was nothing remotely express about it) for my brother's final DMA concert. It rocked. And I am fairly sure that multiple hours of Baroque harpsichord music are rarely described in such a manner. But is was truly fantastic. I have heard my brother play a number of times in the last few years, but always with ensembles and such, and this was just different. I had no idea he was so unbelievably good. It was like growing up with Clark Kent as your brother and finally realizing he was Superman. You know, if Superman played harpsichord. Anyway, it was a blast, and completely worth a collective 4 hours of driving (to and fro).

Today is rainy and gray. The kind of day where one really wants to curl up with movies and popcorn and the cats, but instead I will be responsible and go to work. Someone's got to bring home the kibbles, huh?

Muddy Boschi, thanks for the radish tips.

Happy Thursday everybody!

Hey Thursday people!

Have to say, I'm jealous as hell of you lie-a-beds. A Thursday lie-in would be just heaven.

My Thursday ain't so bad so far, but I've people comimg for dinner tomorrow night so I'll have to give the ole homestead a bit of a vacumn and wave the feather duster around (I hate housework) so I only have to cook after work Friday.

Boschi, check out this website:

http://www.greenearthinstitute.org/reci ... index.html

I haven't actually looked at the recipes, but there might be something interesting. Well, as interesting as radishes can be. ;-)

Hope y'all have a good'un!

floyd: oh man, i wish i could sleep fifteen hours. i just don't have the time for it and now that i'm old, i wake up at like 8am even when i do have time!

i wanted to wake up early this morning to go to the gym before work. instead, i slept through my alarm and got up ridiculously late. not a good way to start one's thursday. at all.

i'm having some major time management issues this week, MKF. between working out, preparing food for my diet, studying for the bar, and hanging with the girl, i am running around like one of boschi's chicken with it's head cut off (sorry for the horrible visual there, bosch - no chickens were harmed in the drafting of this post). i need a schedule, a routine, but i'm just kind of horrible at such a thing. i really need a personal assistant and a life coach. and maybe a good therapist. and a million dollars to finance it all.

needless to say, i'm looking forward to this weekend (it's memorial day weekend here in the u.s. and a three-day one at that!). the girl and i are going to venture into the wilderness (and by wilderness i just mean we're going somewhere along the river for the day) with her dog and a picnic. should be fun.

in funny news, i heard from a* the other day... she'd finally noticed that i'd deleted her from myspace and emailed me something snarky. i totally gave her the business finally. i'm so ridiculously happy to be over that beast!

happy thursday, all of you lay-abouts and working stiffs like me!

Happy Thursday, Kittens.

We are having some nice afternoon thunderboomers brewing up. I am listening to abundant thunder, but the sun is shining. Makes me happy.

What to do with radishes? I just eat them. When I was little, I used to just pick them, wipe them off, and eat them. (Note: I don't officially recommend this, but what can I say, I was a barefoot, overall-wearing little girl in Alabama and that's how we roll.)

Today is a pretty good day. I hope it's a good day for everyone else, too.

I do like the Thursday crowd check-in. Y'all are allright.

So a few comments:

Floyd: I kind of want to kick your ass. Glad you slept so much (ya lousy bum).

PtS: mah-velous link, thank you. I need to be printing out recipes to hand out at my market booth, and this helps. Gracias.

maudmac: you and your "thunderboomers" crack me up. Mainly because that is what my dad used to call passing gas. I can just picture you lying in bed, listening to the thunderboomers....

ktv:
"i really need a personal assistant and a life coach. and maybe a good therapist. and a million dollars to finance it all. "

Umm, sorry - no. I called dibs on this months and months ago. ;-)

Leaf:
"You know, if Superman played harpsichord."

You crack me up.

Everyone:
It is a sleepy day, isn't it? I just napped in the coffeehouse for a few minutes because I just couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. I think I have lead weights on my eyelids. And the coffee isn't helping.

Speaking of coffee, where the hell is gorn?
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.

Happy Thursday! This has been a better one than I've had in a while, mostly 'cause now that I'm home, I'm officially on my 4 day weekend. Woohoo!

Work was actually kinda cool today, since the movie Public Enemies (the one with Johnny Depp as John Dillinger) is being filmed (in part) right down the street at the Biograph Theater. The crew spent all day covering up business signs and awnings with old timey ones, and this afternoon they were laying down sheets of fake bricks and street car lines. It was pretty amazing how well they can cosmetically change a modern intersection into a 1920s avenue. I particularly liked that The Pita Pit now has a deco-ish 'Restauant' sign. What, no Pita Pits in 1920s Chicago? They aren't filming until tonight, so I heard, so I was sadly unable to gawk at Johnny (one of my boy crushes). Damn.

Boschi, my dad used to slice up radishes and eat them in a sandwich. Seriously. Nothing but radishes on bread. It never looked appealing to me, but go figure.

he's left us for japanese businessmen and world of warcraft. i almost feel a little bitter.

who else are we missing this thursday? hmm...

foo!!

maybe she's left us for karaoke-loving dudes and nerdgames, too. sigh.

and yes, bosch, it's a sleepy-ass day. this thursday is so slow and sleepy and (for me) depressing as all get out (i think the cloudiness of portland is getting to me). i'd just like a nap and some thursday nookie (oh how i miss gorn's frequent tauntings of those). but i don't get to see my chick till saturday. so a nap it is!

The Fraggles used to eat radishes, didn't they, MKF? Or perhaps it was the Doozer contstructions made out of radishes? I don't recall exactly, but I'm sure there is a Fraggle-radish connection of some kind. You should check any holes you've got in your walls, Boschi ...

I drank a lot of coffee today, no point in denying it, but I haven't felt well enough to do much of anything else today. Yeah, I went to work (the boss was back after a couple of days off, so I sort of had to be there), but I pretty much just puttered around, took a 3 hour lunch, and drank coffee out at the gazebo. Actually ... I seem to do that a lot, anyway, but it was different today because I was feeling under the weather. A legitmate excuse, if ever I heard one.

I'm starting to run out of steam this week, so I'm a little happier than usual that it's Thursday. I'm also pretty happy about the Memorial Day weekend ... though a part of me that actually takes the time to think about the meaning of words thinks this probably ought to be a more ... I don't know, a more somber occasion. Memorial Day, you know? Instead, I'm going to be drinking beer and barbequing every day it doesn't rain (in which case I'll just be drinking beer).

No, I take that back. We ought to be doing all the things that are great about America, like drinking beer and barbequing on a 3-day weekend. Hell, we probably ought to figure out a way to vote and shoot guns this weekend, too!

Hmm ... that sounds mildly Third World-ish, but you know what I mean.

I just thunderboomed, MKF ...

EDIT -
I was on a pretty good nookie-roll there for a while, but I think I'm going to strike out today. Perhaps it's the weather. If you're going to strike out, though, there's no better day than Thursday for it.

I would dearly like to sing some karaoke again. I'll be in Japan for about 2 weeks next month, and that's one of the top things I'm looking forward to. Ever seen that scene in "Lost In Translation" where they go bar-hopping and end up in karaoke? That was my life for 10 years.

I don't know why I ever came back ...

Punctuality was never my strong suit, but better late to the Thursday meet up than not at all right? Besides, I would never diss my Thursday peeps for karaoke-loving dudes and nerdgames (I think, I still don't quite get that reference).

Glad to see that we're enjoying our sleep-ins, radishes, and coffee. I never liked radishes, coffee turns me into a jittery spaz, and sleeping in for me is 8:30 AM.

Today was one of those rare days where every other appointment was a cancellation, which means less work for me. Happy joy! The rest of my appointments were due to the ineptitude of the technicians who were out there before me. I bonded with a woman who had a three-legged cat (my pup's a tripod as well), then spent 20 minutes in the two foot space behind her TV. I can say that I had zero half dressed customers today, which is always appreciated. Last week? Enough for two lifetimes.

I had hoped for a nice big BBQ in celebration of Memorial Day, instead I get to spend it with a ton of flagstone and a ton of sand. Yes, it's gonna be patio D-Day this Sunday. We kinda sucked on the recruitment of friends, and my partner will do about 15 minutes of work before griping about how she's a better foreman than a grunt, so methinks I'm going at this alone. It'll be like making those little mosaics back in 3rd grade art class, only back breaking and not so fun. Wish me luck.
