Thursday is treating me well so far. Making friends at work, taking absolutely hilarious calls, getting a PM that made me all swoon-y, and getting my computer back from the shop with apologies and a remittance of all fees.

And what a beautiful Thursday it is here in Austin. Gently warm, with cool breezes, a few light puffy clouds in the sky... a good start for spring, in my book.

Yes, my dear Thursday, you have done well.

my thursday turned around nicely.

the boss left at one, so i got to go home then (i'll stay late tomorrow so my officemate can bail early)... i picked up some medicine and soup for the girl and went over to her place for the afternoon to lie around and watch "sex and the city" and feel crummy together (i've been fighting off the same plague she and my brother have). she recognizes that she's a horrible beast when sick. i think it's a vulnerability thing. but she was perfectly sweet and let me take care of her (which is also very hard for her).

she texted me after i left and said "thanks for being awesome today. you're an awesomeasaurus." she's adorable. sigh.

i also got to pick up my new glasses this afternoon and they are fabulous and snazzy.

oh thursday, i'm sorry i ever doubted your swellness.

TGIT(Thank Goodness It's Thursday). It's like that light at the never ending tunnel. It's been such a long week. I thought I was going to have to build an ark to get to work because of the rain. And I think it made me a little depressed. Well the rain decided to go away because I guess it knew it had to make my Thursday a good one. I got to leave work early. Well I kinda lied and told them my TV was getting fixed at 3 but really I wanted to watch the UK game. :sh Which I shouldn't have even watched b/c they ended up losing anyway. Tomorrow I'm leaving for my parents house for egg hunting and eatings lots of goodies. Everybody have a great weekend. :peace

Alright peeps. Time to get this Thursday party started.

So far my day is rainy and smells of apple cider vinegar. A small horde of fruit flies recently took up residence in one of our plants, and this morning Mrs. Leaf decided to whip out the big guns in our battle against them - Haley's Helpful Hints. So Haley says to leave out saucers of apple cider vinegar and the flies will be lured in to their doom. So far no flies have succumbed to the olfactory wiles of the vinegar. And the house reeks. I think Mr. Haley is striking out on this one.

As for the rainy, I am kind of digging it today. Soft and chill. An unassuming sort of Thursday.

In the spirit of quiet rainy days that encourage daydreaming of other places, I propose a specific sort of game of Anywhere But Here. Please include the following:
1) Where you would like to be
2) 2 things you would eat
3) Something you would decline to read
4) A topic of conversation with a stranger
5) The color of your socks

I'll add my submission later in the day. Now have at it!

You know, I thought today was Tuesday until I was handed my paycheck at lunchtime. Oh, Thursday how I love you and hope you forgive me my dimwittedness.

Today the weather in Belfast was stunning. The sun shone all day and I was even able to to take my sweatshirt off it was so warm, ah, it was such a pleasure to feel the sun on my skin, and work all day with an eclectic mix of tunes on my nano giving a fabulous soundtrack to my day.

I had a little Jose Gonzalez, Barclay James Harvest, James Taylor, Duran Duran, Joni Mitchell, Madonna, Erasure and a whole load of other stuff.

Leaf, I'm gonna have a think about anywhere but here and get back later.

ETA 1) Where you would like to be - Easter Island

2) 2 things you would eat – Fresh figs and mozzarella

3) Something you would decline to read – The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

4) A topic of conversation with a stranger – Which season of Blackadder was the best

5) The colour of your socks – Blue with little penguins

Ha-ha, that didn't take me as long as I thought it would.

Have a good Thursday MKF :kitty

oh leafy, i am all about "anywhere but here" at the moment. i've had a craptastic week since last thursday and would love to be anywhere but where i am presently planted. too bad the fever and constant coughing/wheezing won't allow me to go anywhere beyond the confines of the house :(

1) since it's rainy and cold here in portland today, i think i could go for being in sunny, warm key west right about now.
2) i'd like a big, tall, strong, fruity, slushy drink with some chips and salsa (yes, i realize key west is not mexico, but i have a hankering) and maybe some conch fritters.
3) you could not make me read "the odyssey" on such a day.
4) the cute girl on the next towel over would strike up a conversation about the sox and we'd both agree on how ridiculous it was to have the season opener in japan.
5) i'm totally barefoot with my favorite pair of beat up reef flip flops plunged in the sand next to me.

ahhh. much better.

and i just wanted to thank all of my kitten homies who have sent sweet PMs in the last few days. i will get back to everyone soon, but just wanted to say that collectively, you all rock and i really appreciate the sentiments and support.

happy thursday, people.

A Thursday game, MKF? How wonderful!

1) Where you would like to be - Disneyworld. Specifically, the balcony of my room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

2) 2 things you would eat - Pizza & fries. This is going to sound silly, but they have excellent pizza there. And what goes better with pizza than fries?

3) Something you would decline to read - News of any kind; the outside world does not exist.

4) A topic of conversation with a stranger - seeing as how this stranger is probably going to be Room Service, we're probably talking about African wines.

5) The color of your socks - like ktv above, I am without socks.

Ah, that felt good! Today has been busy, so it was nice to mentally get away, if only for a moment. Thursday came quick this week, though, and it's already 4:30 now. Can't complain, MKF!

4) A topic of conversation with a stranger - politicians

It's been a nice Thursday, all in all. Any Thursday that includes free Chicago-style stuffed pizza... gotta be good, y'know?

And now a game! How great is that!

Where to be: LA.
2 things I'd eat: Thai food and [censored].
Decline to read: anything serious.
Talk with a stranger about Whether anyone really does walk in LA.
Sock colour: None for me, please. Just sandals will do fine.

Hope everyone else is having a great Thursday, too!

thiswomanswork, where oh where did you score free Chicago-style stuffed pizza? And please tell me you brought enough to share! Sigh...the pizza is #3 on the list of things I miss about the homeland (#1 being Lake Michigan and #2 being eye contact). Oh, stuffed cheesy goodness, so close to my heart!

And who knew there was such strong anti-sock sentiment on this board? Fascinating!

So...my ABH:
1) after work today I am itching to end up somewhere with a notable absence of rich overprivileged twentysomething manhattanites. I'm thinking to err on the side of hermitage with this fantasy, so let's say northern Vermont. Itty bitty town. There could even still be snow.
2) a nice chunk of very aged gouda and a really good pear
3) I would decidedly not read the 4 month old tabloids on the coffee table
4) cheese. I talked with the old fart at the grocery store about cheese.
5) the coziest socks I own - they are purple and fuzzy and look like they have been knit from a muppet

Thanks for playing, everybody. That was fun. Enjoy your weekends all!

Fortunately I get eye contact here, but I miss the lake, too.

Here in Austin we have a pizza place called Mangia that serves the best Chicago-style pizza south of the Illinois border. It's no Giordanos, but it's still very, very good. Some of my friends were meeting there to hang out, and my friend Tammy shared some of her pizza with me.

It's a cold, rainy Thursday, MKF! And not just any old rain - it's shattering down! Kinda nice to see after last year's drought, but not very fun to be out in.

I'm feeling a bit rundown today, but part of the Joy of Thursday is that I've only got one more day to deal with it. Yes, I am staying up too late playing World of Warcraft. No, I don't care. People warned me about this game, and - in all fairness - they were absolutely right. It's eating up all my free time, and I couldn't be happier. Despite my joking in other threads, Mrs. Gorn has been surprisingly tolerant of my latest mania ... she's seen me get like this before.

I feel a little bit like J. Thaddeus Toad.

Anyway, I'm going to try to putter my way through the rest of this day, keep the coffee mug full, and put off as much real work as possible until Friday (at which point I'll do the same thing and push it all off until Monday).

I hope everyone out there has a great Thursday, MKF, especially ktv on her lunch date (wise move scheduling it for a Thursday!).

oh thursday, how i sing your praises.

this week has been miserable, between returning to work after a week out sick and dealing with the everyday reality of post-break-up life (a block away from the ex!). so, i've been looking forward to thursday all week, more so than usual. my ogre of a boss is leaving at 2:30 today and will be out all day tomorrow, making today a truly wonderous thursday.

today i share with you a short account of bizarre thursday happenings:

i got an email from a local girl on match.com the other day - i'm not a subscriber so i couldn't read the email, but it let me see the profile of the sender. she looked really familiar to me but i couldn't place her. i don't really know many people in portland, so i wasn't sure how i could possibly know her. well, i'm waiting for the MAX this morning and who should come walking down the steps at the station but the girl from the email. because i'm super unslick, i just stood there and didn't say anything. nor did i say anything for the entire train ride downtown. or when we got off at the same stop. nor when we walked to the same building and rode the elevator together. yes, she works two floors below me. totally random. she's too young for me (23) and i don't find her to be my type, really, but it couldn't hurt to talk to her and make a new friend, i think. i could definitely use some of those here.

so anyway, that's my random thursday thus far. i have tentative lunch plans with a* today and am trying not to let myself get too spazzy and worked up about it. no girl should mess with the glory of thursday. that will be my new mantra.

happy thursday, peeps!

Hello all, I feel the need to apologize for my no-show last week. The farming season is upon me, and I may disappear for days at a time.

ktv - bummer about the lunch, but really the whole girl two floors beneath you (not what I meant...) is still a good thing. Stop being such a bloody drama queen :smash and look forward to another ride in the elevator with her on another day. I have utter faith you will have something witty to say then. As for a*, well, I have no comment (mutter, mutter, mutter).

gorn - As for WOW.... I'm glad I've managed to avoid it's clutches. I did however spend four hours this morning when I should've been doing something productive playing Civ. So I'm not sure it really makes a difference.

My baby chickens are here and growing insanely fast. Fluffy bundles of cheep-cheep with a side of prodigous pooping. Endearing yet a tad gross. I bought about 10 different varieties just for funsies, and we've spent far too long trying to figure out which bundle of fluff is what type of chicken.

They bop and scratch around, cheeping maniacally and then by some weird consensus they all decide to nap, pile in the corner, and pass out. They don't do this neatly or cutely - they look like a pile of drunks with wings, legs and beaks sticking out at odd angles. When they sleep by themselves it's like they were running around and suddenly succumbed to narcolepsy. You'll see one sprawled across the floor of the box and be sure it has died, but a curious poke and it is on it's feet again, cheeping.

Pretty fun, actually.

I'm supposed to be potting marigolds and tomatoes right now, so I suppose I'll get to it.

Have a spiffilicious day everyone.
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.

I spent my Thursday pulling lambs out of sheep, wrestling sheep to the ground, chasing sheep down the road, catching lambs, skidding around fields on a quad bike(AWESOME fun) and spray painting numbers on sheeps.

There was also some minor ram wrestling, which didn't turn out too good because he was a lot bigger than me.

Last day tomorrow, I am SO glad.

ktv: Sorry about the girl being crap again. She's probably not worth the angst, dudio.

The last Thursday of the month has become extra special. It is right in the middle of a week that starts with a Monday off and ends with the infamous waffle truck coming on Saturday. That's right, Bosch, the waffle truck. :-D What could be better? I also have the whole weekend off as the bosses are closing the spa to fly to Aruba for a wedding. Whoopee!

The sleeping chickens reminded me of a documentary I saw ages ago that involved a dog with excitement induced narcolepsy. Things that would trigger it included really good wet food and the prospect of escape. So, as you can guess, someone leaves the door open to demonstrate, puppy makes a break for it and in his unbounded enthusiasm falls over asleep halfway down the hallway. They learned quickly that there was no need to run after him...he he.

Floyd, I always wondered about those spray painted sheep. Are you ever tempted to jazz it up a bit and make little sheepy murals? It could be a new post modern art movement - interactive livestock installations. I swear you could get grants...

ktv, sorry about your lunch that was not. I add my own mutter mutter. a* is a royal poop head. Maybe elevator girl has cute friends...

Be good everybody. But not too good.

I totally want to draw spray painty pictures on them! Unfortunately the farmer's clued in to the fact that I haven't grown up and supervises me. Pfft. So it's just numbers and putting rings around their balls to make them fall off. :(

bosch, floyd and leafy: thanks. you gals rock. and yes, a* is a major poophead. i hate it when chicks can turns things around on me so succesfully. i ended things and she's managed to get me begging her to take me back and playing hard to get. i pray to god i tire of this soon. i can't take feeling like this much longer.

Floyd wrote:putting rings around their balls to make them fall off. :(

gulp. they just.fall.off.?!?!?!

more thursday goodness: i'm going to drinks tonight after work with an old friend from high school (sooo long ago) who lives in PDX now. i've only seen her once since graduation - at our 10 year reunion. should be fun. her mom was one of the first adults i came out to (the mom was a lesbo but now has a husband) when i was 17. good times.

and yes, perhaps elevator girl has cute friends. i'm going on a couple of friend dates this weekend with people from craigslist (they're not people i'd date date, but i'm going to hang out for the cute friend possibilities). i'm definitely trying to move on and establish myself here in portland independent of the aforemention poophead.

and i tried a different mexican cart today! yay for yummy shredded beef tacos.

sigh. thursday. you rock.

Well y'seeee, the rings are tiny, and you use these plier things so stretch them out and put them over the ballsack, then put the ring around, so it cuts off the blood supply and they drop off in a few weeks. I haven't seen any little ballsacks lying about though. :( It upsets me.

Surprisingly enough, most guys I tell about this have a tendancy to cringe and shut their legs..

And I'm rooting for you. Cheering even! Bring It On style. Crap girl out, new, awesome girl in. :D

Happy Thursday everyone. Am I ever glad to see Thursday on the calendar. It's been a long week and I almost didn't make it out of bed this morning. I so need a vacation from work. I got spoiled when our attendance was down in my classroom, now we are back to having 19 screaming energy filled hellions. My Thursday wasn't too eventful. I did go grocery shopping, which was annoying. I hate getting stuck behind slow people at the grocery store. :smash peace out kittens :peace

oh leafy, that list made me happy just reading it! my little ipod shuffle is chock full of sad music (sad music is my default fave, no matter my mood) and i've noticed that listening to it on the ride to and from work is really starting and ending my days in craptastic way. but i am now inspired by your list to change that!

while i don't expect my thursday to be too amazing during the 8-5 workday, i am super excited about this thursday evening. i'm going to see my future wife edie carey play here in portland tonight. she doesn't know we're getting married yet, but i think she'll react favorably when i tell her.

that's all i've got. happy thursday, party people!

Dear ktv, it's so good to hear you have a more sensible approach to relationships worked out now... cheers. Please invite me to the wedding, particularly if there is an open bar.

It is one rainy Thursday here, which means I'm trying to catch up on office work. Like, say, TAXES. :yikes

I will confess that I recognized one, and only one, song on the list-o-Leaf (I'm pretty music challenged). They all sounded rather cheerful though. I might be inspired to look one or two up in my abundant spare time.

I think I've missed the window to take cute pictures of the chicks. A couple of runts are still puff balls, but the more developed chicks are starting to look like little velociraptors with feathers. I have dubbed the largest one "Edwidge". I think it suits her. Edwidge don't take shit from no one. She kinda thinks my fingers look like big, fat, delectable worms.

(Gee, I hope I'm never in the position of wanting to seduce any of you all - that is the sort of quote that might haunt me).

All righty, enjoy your Thursday everyone.

Are you as busy this Thursday as I am, MKF?

Because I'm only slightly cooler than Boschi, I was able to recognize TWO songs on that list - the B-52's & Cindi Lauper. I agree the rest of them certainly sound pretty happy - just saying "Yoo Hoo" & "Twiggy Twiggy" makes me kinda happy. Try it! Wherever you are right now reading this, stand up and holler "Yoo Hoo! Twiggy Twiggy!" and see if you don't feel happy.

That's it for today, MKF! I gotta scoot!

i figure imaginary relationships are far more healthy than the ones i've been getting in. i think i'm on to something. thanks for your support!

your fat wormy fingers totally turn me on. you'd have no probs seducing me! although, i hear i'm slutty with questionable selection processes anyway. ::shrug::

i sent an email this morning to elevator girl extolling the virtues of thursday. i even quoted gorn's semon on the thursday mount (with proper citation). but i just ran into a*'s bff/roommate on my way back from lunch. he was all "how are you doing?" in a concerned sort of way that made it sound like i wasn't the one who dumped her. so i responded all chipper-like with "oh i'm great! been busy.. work... going out. you know how it is." and then he mentions that he's waiting for someone and she's late and i get all panicked and queasy, falling over myself trying to get out of there cause i'm afraid it's a*.. and he goes "don't worry... my friend [some random girl name]"... i'm so transparent and lame. and now my thursday has me cranky and embarassed. sigh.

gorn, you HAVE to get to troll hammer on thursday. it's just not right for you to do it any other way. you might have to use you super fast internet at home, step away from world of nerdcraft for a second, and post away.

okay, MKF, i'm really going away this time.

peace out, yo.

Oh, thank god. It's so good to know I have options. ;-)

So about a minute ago it hailed massively (about nickel sized hail), for about 30 seconds, then stopped. Then did it again.

I'm thinking I don't want to know what my field looks like.

Sigh.

Still, it is Thursday. And the hail did look kinda neat - the wind blew open the door and sent hail stones scattering across the floor.
