Happy Thanksgiving, MKF!
Is it coincidence Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday? I think not.

Our turkey's in the oven. We brined it last night - first time we've ever done that - and I've got my fingers crossed that it's going to come out OK. Food Channel said it was good, so it must be alright.

Mrs. Gorn & I have been pretty tired recently, so we're looking forward to 4 days of just sitting on our asses. Cook some turkey, watch some football, maybe engage in a little holiday nookie. This is also the first Thanksgiving in YEARS that we're not going anywhere and no one is coming here. People have started inviting us over on the mistaken assumption that we're going to be lonely - we've started lying to them, saying we've got company from Japan flying in just so we don't have to go anywhere.

Whether you're with family, friends, or far from home, I wish all you Kittens out there the best of Thanksgivings. If your country doesn't have Thanksgiving (or doesn't have it today), then I wish you a Happy Thursday!

Happy Thanksgiving, PlanetKitten!

Thanksgiving is a holiday I really respect because I think it's valuable to focus on what you're thankful for. Gratitude is pretty powerful. But I pay attention to what I'm grateful for year-round, so this is really just another day for me. I am not much into family stuff or holidays at all, so they all end up being just another day.

It used to make me sad that other people looked forward to holidays and felt they were special times and enjoyed them and all that, but, being the hardcore optimist I am, I finally figured out a bright side for myself. Now, I think I'm the one who's actually lucky, because I try to cultivate the goodness of holiday stuff every day of the year. Thankfulness, the spirit of giving, blah blah. When I feel myself starting to get all bitter during the holidays, I stop myself and square my shoulders and think: Ha, EVERY DAY is Thanksgiving AND Christmas to me! TAKE THAT! Ho ho HO, motherfucker! :party

Today, I am grateful for:
  • being alive
  • NaNoWriMo and all the good things it's brought into my life, including new friends
  • coffee
  • not living in a war zone
  • all the people who love me
  • opportunities to do some good in the world
  • laughter
  • my brain
  • banana pudding
  • a bunch of other things
I hope everyone has a happy day today, wherever you are and whatever you're doing. I am thankful for the Kitten and all the great people here. :heart

I thought that was Columbus Day?

Oh well, I am okay with two Destruction of the Indigenous Peoples Day (except calling it that makes it sound like a celebration of said destruction). Actually, it should be every day. Crap, this is going to be depressing now. I am not seeing a bright side.

Ah, the ritual eating of macaroni and cheese on holidays. I really like two holiday extremes - either totally surrounded with friends/family or completely by myself, bathing in glorious aloneness. Option two holidays have almost always involved macaroni and cheese, a six pack, and happy mellowness. So cheers.

This year, however, I've spent the day with my gf, my mother, and a friend. So this Thanksgiving was wonderful in an option one kind of way.
If only the gf hadn't kicked our asses so thoroughly in Scrabble, it would've been even better. :happy

That girl is just too damn smart. Sexy too. ;-)

So now I'm off to the the Eating/Drinking thread... because dinner really was excellent.

Warm wishes and gratitude to all the Kittens out there. Good to be able to share this space with you.

i totally missed thursday!!! well, in my time zone anyway.

but in my defense i was partaking of thanksgiving festivities (well, i went to a restaurant so that only really took like an hour and a half of my day), generally being a spaz (a big time sucker) and sleeping cause i came down with a cold today.

hope all of you lovely kittens had a great thursday/thanksgiving.

THURSDAY!!!!!! Yodel-ah-hee-ooooooooo!!!!

:-D

So I'm working from home this morning, and so is the gf, which means I'm spending an awful lot of time peering over the top of my laptop, contemplating how endearing she is. Which I know is pretty saccharine, but I'm enjoying it.

I was about to say it is cold as a witch's tit here, but despite my fondness for the saying, it seems singularly inappropriate here, the home of so many descriptions of warm and snuggly wiccan boobies.

So, on this Thursday I invite my fellow Kittens to help me finish that phrase more appropriately.

"Cold as a ..... "

Hope everyone is staying warm,

Ha! Sneaky Thursday I have caught you this time!

Last Thursday was grand. Had a thoroughly enjoyable Yam Sham with the folks. No one started to drive me crazy until mere moments before it was time to fly on home anyway. Some high quality eating was done, and Mrs. Leaf and I made a couple of pies that would make strong men weep. Good times.

Today I am working an afternoon/evening shift, so the morning has been free for fun things like laundry and the kittenboard. A nice sort of day.

Yes, the cold. We don't have it here yet. Well, some folks may say we do, but really they are just wimps. As a kid growing up in the windy wilds of Chicago, I remember having a very specific series of cold assessment criteria. Cold fingers and toes were a given and they didn't even count. It wasn't really cold until you went outside and your snot froze. Next level was when it felt like your eyeballs were freezing. And then top tier cold was when you stepped outside and instantly your entire being hurt. Including your brain. Sharp and pointy-like. I know those of you living in some nicely chilly climes know what I am talking about. Honestly, I kind of miss it. That's mostly nostalgia talking, sure, but it's the kind of weather that makes you feel like you've really earned your spring when it finally rolls around.

Happy Thursday all!

I must tip my hat to Leaf - indeed, snot-freezing cold is something I am familiar with. I always thought of it as nose-hair freezing cold (it's a distinct sensation for sure).

And while it's not that cold here yet, I'm still adjusting to the whole winter thing - two or three days ago we went through a 40 degree temperature dip and I'm still trying to catch up. Call me a wimp if you must, I would understand.

And yes, cold as a gold diggers ass works just dandy. :)

P.S. Where the hell is gorn? It's Thursday for cryin' out loud.

gorn is bustin' ass, MKF!! Where the hell did all this work come from???

Oh, now I remember. I came back from Thanksgiving vacation all lazy & complacent, spent pretty much the whole week just goofing off, and now the Piper has come with his Thursday bill ... If I'm lucky - REALLY lucky - I may get home tonight in time for the game.

But it's Thursday, MKF, and I find I've somehow got the strength to fight all these battles today. Any other day (except Friday), and I might be down for the count.

keep that up, gorn, and boschi will never drink with us!

my thursday was lovely until about five minutes ago. i had lunch with some former law school classmates who are opening a firm next month in northampton, and they asked me if i wanted to join them and rent their third office. but alas, i don't have the fundage for that at the moment (they have husbands with jobs so their bills and housing are taken care of while they build a practice... i'm not so lucky - not about the husband part, cause, eww). but it was still really nice to be asked, cause these are very grown-up, professional type ladies and i still feel like a bubblegum chewing lackey (except for when i suit up and put my game face on).

so i went to lunch at my favorite place in northampton, dropped some stuff off at storage, did a bit of shopping and was enjoying my first day off in at least a week and then my housemate told me the girl (her cousin) emailed and is still dating the troll. for a month now! the troll has a dorothy hamill haircut, just learned to read, and posts pictures, publicly, of herself in cars with open containers. wtf? and the girl (not the troll) is having serious health problems. so now i'm worried, sad, annoyed, and feeling guilty for calling her a souless twat. but whatever, she's well enough to date the troll and be a bitch to me, so i don't take it back.

anyway, i'm about to go buy some big rolling duffel bags for my trip/move (i have no idea what to call it other than "i'm getting the eff outta connecticut") and warehouse club shopping always makes my heart sing.

sorry for the babble... it's the cough med talking

happy thursday, peeps.

Is it REALLY Thursday today, MKF?? I've been traveling, and it just doesn't seem like that most magical of days ... Perhaps it will hit me later.

Just got back into the office after a couple of days in Detroit. Got to see my first snow of the season (gorn loves snow) and had an unusually productive trip this time ... but oh, how I hate Detroit! My apologies to any Detroit Kittens out there - I love you, but I do not love your city.

So now I'm sitting here with my coffee looking at the 16 tons of work that has piled up on my desk while I was gone. You know in the cartoons when a huge weight with "16 tons" written on the side falls on somebody? That's what happened to my desk. The calendar tells me it actually IS Thursday today, though, so maybe I ought to just sit here and enjoy my coffee for a while, browse through the Kittenboard.

Hold on a minute ... is that a Neverland update? Ah, I knew Thursday wouldn't let me down!

Yes, indeed. Neverland update. Saw that Tuesday and it dragged a wretched day right back into tolerable.

Looking back on last Thursday it occurs to me that I really should distribute some Boschi bucks as tokens of my appreciation for the
"cold as" responses.

So: To dianeswillowtree, Leaf and gorn = 5 boschi buckaroos a piece.

However, I've lost the reimbursement/exchange schedule, so I really have no idea what those can buy you. Maybe check with gorn, I think he might have a copy....

Currently I'm peering out the coffee shop window into ... white. White everywhere. Big ol' fluffy flakes of it. I'm on a kick of enjoying life lately, so I think it's pretty spiffy. We'll see how I feel when I have to drive home later.

:dance Happy Thursday everyone!

Woo hoo!! More boschi-bucks! I was getting ready to donate my remaining boschi-bucks to charity, but now that I've got $10 I might splurge on something big! There's not many days of Christmas shopping left.

... unfortunately, I do not recall everything that boschi-bucks can be used for. I remember they can only be redeemed on Thursdays, naturally. They are non-transferable. I think $5 would get you Boschi drinking to your health - on a Thursday - at an undisclosed location. $10 might have gotten you a Star Trek reference in a boschi-post; now, whether this would come on a Thursday, or if you could pick the thread, I am not certain ...

Boschi, I think you ought to post what we can use these for today or next Thursday so we can go back and look it up if we have to.

Boschi Bucks of my very own? Really?! Goodness, I am all aflutter.

Well, it's been a best of times/worst of times sort of Thursday. I had a soundly crap work day, but coming home to boschi bucks, neverland, and a shortly to be elaborated upon surprise all tip the scales back to one rocking Thursday.

So the special surprise today was the bright shiny brand spankin' new computer that arrived in the mail. Woo and hoo! Now, Mrs. Leaf and I have never in our lives been the owners of a bright shiny brand new computer. We have been the very grateful recipients of some not too ancient hand-me-downs, but this is a first. It makes us almost feel like grown ups. And it's so freaking pretty. It really is. Almost makes me feel like I ought to dress up to sit down at it or something. What fun.

I think I've missed the midnight mark by a minute or two, but I figure no one will hold it against me, right? Happy Thursday all! Sleep well!

i'm squeaking into thursday, just barely (it's 11:45 here on the west coast). whew.

i'm stoked to be having a great thursday, mfk. i made it to portland safe and sound on tuesday morning and upon stepping off the plane had a voicemail message from a legal recruiter here in town. i interviewed with them yesterday and they dug me and sent me to interview with one of their clients today. i should know this week whether i've got the job or not. i was in new england for over three months and couldn't get an interview and i get one here upon arrival. insane! please keep your fingers crossed for me. i also saw tori tuesday night and ran into a girl i went to jr. high and high school with in so cal, and who was the only other lesbo in our class. crazy small world, right?

i spent the day today hanging out with my cute little niece, drinking with my brother, and baking "reverse the curse" cupcakes to combat the bad luck of my romantic life (a friend suggested i try a cupcake/religious candle ritual like the one i do for the red sox to win). not a bad way to spend a thursday.

i'm bummed i missed out on boschi bucks though. can i do some extra credit bosch?

okay, i'm off to bed... this jet lag is kicking my butt. the neverland update (?!?!?!) i just learned about in this very thread will have to wait until tomorrow.

happy thursday all!

Did you know this is the second-to-last Thursday before Christmas Break, MKF? Isn't that great? Kind of reminds me that I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet, nor written a single Christmas card ... but that's OK! Mrs. Gorn will eventually get around to making me do all those things just in the nick of time.

We watched "The Polar Express" for the first time last night. The Steven Tyler Elf was a little disturbing (his daughter makes a much better Elf), but overall the movie made us so happy we were almost in tears. Partway through the movie, though, Mrs. Gorn says to me, "That black girl kind of reminds me of Tara" ... and I'll be damned if I didn't suddenly see it, too. Bear in mind Mrs. Gorn has still only seen Season 4 Tara. Next time you're watching "The Polar Express," take a look and tell me you don't see it.

I've got nothing but meetings lined-up now for the rest of the day. Lucky me! Woo hoo!!

Happy Thursday, everyone. If any of you are going to be stuck in meetings, too, I hope you at least have good coffee.

Good Thursday!

After much pondering, I have determined the following boschi-buck reimbursement schedule:

Please note boschi bucks are non-transferable and are only redeemable on Thursdays.

5 boschi bucks - one toast to your health, by Boschi, on a Thursday, at an undisclosed location. Said toast will likely involve whiskey and may or may not involve a rodent exercise wheel, a pinata or a milking stool. Please notify me of your intent to claim this by 3 pm on Thursday.

10 boschi bucks - One recipe of the week, complete with mouth watering descriptions, posted on the Thursday board and named after you. Realistically folks, these won't be mine, but I don't think the girlfriend will mind me stealing them. I'm more an appreciative eater than a cook.

15 boschi bucks - A Boschi-penned ode, not to exceed twenty lines, and no less than three, celebrating the wonder that is you. Said ode will be posted in the Thursday thread the week after you redeem. Ode may or may not contain references to aforementioned rodent exercise wheel, pinata or milking stool.

20,000 boschi bucks - One Broadway musical, written, produced, directed and performed by Boschi and 300 boschi-clone monkeys, which absolutely will include a rodent exercise wheel, a pinata and a 5 legged milking stool.

Yours truly,

The Bank of Boschi

Oh, if I hadn't squandered those first $10 boschi-bucks, I'd have 1/2000th of that Broadway Musical already!! DAMN!

There may be some master economic plan, similar to the way the Fed is always raising & lowering rates, but it's been my experience so far that Boschi just gives them out on a whim ...

I have just completed my third day staying in the house. I can't actually remember the last thing I did that involved leaving the house. It's been too icy yucky to bother, and since I have plenty of computer shtuff to do inside, that has been just fine with me.

I know I'm way behind the times, and most folks here will be profoundly underwhelmed, but I'm pleased to report that I am staggering through learning Front Page. Kinda fun.

And on a completely different note, don't the democratic Pres. candidates look dead-ass exhausted?

Happy Thursday folks!

So today's wintry mix (as previously mentioned in ye olde How's The Weather thread) ended up being far more mixy than I had anticipated. We ended up getting every kind of winter precipitation available - rain, sleet, hail, and snow. Am I missing any? It was pretty messy, but as I spent most of my day inside looking out at it, I don't feel I have too much right to complain.

Mrs. Leaf came home sick from work today and I am sending fervent pleas to whatever P'sTB happen to be listening that I not catch whatever it is she has. Nothing like barfing at work to put you in the holiday spirit, huh? I am also feeling a little floored at the realization that it is the middle of December already. Is this month sneaking away on anyone else too? Didn't we just do Thanksgiving last week or something? Crikey!

I am curious if Boschi trusts us all to keep track of our own boschi-bucks or if she has a ledger somewhere...

Alrighty friends and relations - be good, play nicely, and enjoy your last bits o' Thursday.

oh thursday, sweet thursday...

first of all, i have to say i'm more than a little miffed that i have yet to earn any boschi bucks. i mean, i like to think i'm tight homies with the bosch (even partners in pretentious crime) - yet where are my bucks? hmmph.

i'm working a wretched legal temp job right now (i seriously have pushed so much paper today that my fingers are cracked and bleeding) and felt like there were 97 hours in my work-day today. but after work i met up for drinks with a girl i'd been emailing with over the past week. she was super cute and really cool to hang out with. definitely made my thursday.

i have a short day at work tomorrow because i'm flying down to so cal to visit my bff and see tori with her on sunday. then another friend and i will be driving back up to pdx on wednesday. so thursday will find me back here and back on the KB (i probably won't have much internet access while i'm gone). yay!

hope you all have bitchin' weeks till next thursday...
