dlline: Thanks very much Diane and well done on the Dibs for the final chapter ever of Sin City!
I did kinda feel a little breathless at the conclusion, just because it was such an explosion of epic proportions with people getting blown up left, right and centre. I definitely don’t think I would be able to write a similar fic for a while.
I’m glad you love the detail, the movie may be derived from a comic book but it’s a great medium for drawing attention to small things that get passed over in movies…and I love grass, so had to mention it!
And you know it’s gotta last when your love lets you blow up a mansion…I think that’s one of the most explosive gifts Tara has given Willow in any fanfic I’ve read!
I do need pestering about R & R, although the next chapter is being slowly chipped away at I keep getting caught up with VR. Still, there are only 3 more chapters to go with it so I should just get to work!
Dianneswillowtree: Well, I could only ever have a happy ending but there are happy ending and then there are ‘Sin City happy endings,’ this definitely wasn’t the latter as the hero always seems to die at the end. I’m really glad you enjoyed it.
db: I just had to have a nice literal ending…right from the start, there was always going to be a huge explosion at the end just because I felt that this was the only way the fic could end.
And it also seemed right that Willow should be the one to rescue Tara after the whole plot line started with Tara rescuing Willow, at the end they’ve come full circle, showing that they are truly tied together.
watty: Thanks very much watty, it’s kinda scary to think how many words of fan fiction I have written but I’ve had so much fun creating my little oeuvre.
It was sort of a ‘yucky’ fic, but yucky in a good way I hope. And I agree with your comment re Willow and Tara becoming equals at the end. They did start out with a pretty big imbalance which didn’t bode well for a long-term relationship (not that anything in Sin City really bodes well for a long term relationship).
Despite the violence, I did have great fun writing the individual fight sequences, each was so different…and to have Willow saving the day at the end was a new development, her killing Tommy and Dedara had to be quick, no matter what has happened to her, you could not imagine Willow despatching them in a more brutal manner. This was never a particularly romantic fic, but the ending promises happiness which is more than most could expect in Sin City.
tazraven: Hi Sara, Woo and hoo indeed! Thanks so much for your kind words, it was never an easy fit, to write Willow and Tara into Sin City given the canon natures of the girls we love, but I’m really glad it all worked out in the end…and yes, it was a fitting end for Glory wasn’t it?!
cantbefredless: Hiya, thanks very much, I’m very glad the ending came across as perfect!
diamondforever: There’s nothing like a good, dark and grimy fic, and this was darker and grimier than most! It feels great to have it finished.
spells42: Hi there Anne, glad you could join me on the ride, it was indeed a big ask for the Kittens to accept Willow and Tara in this grim universe but I’m very glad that people enjoyed it and that it was an improvement on the original Sin city storylines!
Artemis: Hehe, yes, ‘they ran over Glory’ does sum it up quite nicely. I do appreciate your analysis of the overall feel of the story, it is exactly right in that its surreal and not quite in this world at all…not that it condones excessive violence in anyway. It’s difficult to capture the atmosphere of the colourless comic strip or the movie but I hope I managed it a little.
Dedara was of course Tara’s villain and just as Spike was Buffy’s and Tommy was Willow’s, in following the formula Tara should have killed her. You’re right however, in that it shows Willow and Tara are one, what happens to one happens to the other. It was as though Willow was effectively putting an end to that horrible chapter in Tara’s life.
I think that Sin City being what it is, there will be no sequel…this isn’t a movie that has made bucket loads of money so therefore I don’t feel the need to cash in with a sequel!! (I think if any of my fics lend themselves to a sequel it will be Captain Red) While I think there would be stories to be told about them in the Sin City universe, I’d like to think that they just hightailed right out of there, just as Tara was intending to do in the first chapter. Thanks very much Chris, for both commenting and archiving this fic on your website complete with stunning wallpaper.
JustSkipIt: Hi Deb, I’m going to accept the praise of being more violent and brutal than anything done in canon Buffy as very high praise indeed. While I didn’t set out to create a deliberately violent fic, it did develop that way by virtue of its source material which was never ever going to make it one of those straight Willow/Tara romances that we all love so well.
I love your analysis of the action scenes, thank you very much, and it captures my view that none of it was written just to be as violent as possible, it all had a purpose. And you also noted my censorship of Willow killing Tommy, as satisfying as it might have been, I couldn’t bring myself to write it and I hope that the story was better for my leaving it out.
I’m more than a little sad it’s over, but also really glad at the same time. Many aspects of this fic were challenging to write and while it definitely stretched me as an author, its time to retreat back to the safer pastures of action/adventureland.
Thanks ever so much for reading and offering up your excellent analysis.
Pancakesinbellies: I sincerely hope your face is still attached! I’m glad you enjoyed it and you know I love sharing, so it’s no problem.
WillowRulez: Well, I love fireworks and it did seem a fitting way for the fic to go out. Willow killing those people, no matter how twisted or evil they were, was really, really weird and while I didn’t make any apologies for that during the writing, I know that it would have been difficult to picture and I’m really glad people enjoyed this fic for what it is.
Well, once again, thanks very much to all the Kittens who have read this story and enjoyed it. It may have been hard to stomach at times…it was definitely hard to write but I think in the end that people can see it for what it is and hopefully appreciate that Willow and Tara emerge from the darkness that is Sin City very much in love and all the better for it.
And Sin City won the award for best movie crossover at the ‘I am You Know’ awards which thrills me to no end!
Now I can consign this little tale to join the wonderful Pens archives of finished fics.
Cheers
