Dibs... be right back.

I'm back and that ROCKED! Seriously, kick-ass blood, guts, and violence, and it was great. I actually hate to see the story end, but what a way to go. Did I mention that that Rocked? Yes, I did, but it really did, in a Jerry Bruckheimer sort of way. You know, shit blows up and bullets fly and I sit, watching and cheering.

The beauty of this story, IMHO, is the detail. I know I've mentioned this before, but everything is so visceral.
She came to with blades of grass pressed against her cheek and the smell of earth and cut grass filling her nostrils.

This is just one point of what I'm talking about, and there are many more, but I don't want to be a feedback hog. I also really loved that Tara let Willow push the button to blow up the mansion. I guess it really is true love.

Congratulations, Alcy, on another truly spectacular job well done. I won't pester you about Rhyme and Reason; I know it will be great when you get to it. Anything new on the back burner? Whatever it is, I know it will be great. Well done.

Diane

A post from db using my account:

Alcy!

Way to go out in a blaze! Literally.

I *loved* that you had Willow rescue Tara both literally and figuratively. I love that Tara rescued Willow but that in the end, she both needed and accepted help from Willow.

Bravo, Alcy. Really, really!

Congratulations on another finished fic! One more feather in your highly decorated and regarded cap, my friend. :clap

Like you said in your notes, it wasn't pretty and it was violent. But you know what? The baddies got their just desserts, and Tara got her Willow-shaped dessert; and it's all fine by me. I was well impressed with Willow staying with Tara in the face of rapidly approaching goons, and was so happy to see her rescue Tara -- the kid who once Tara rescued had truly grown up and they can stand as equals going forward.

As usual, full marks for the high standard of your action descriptions. Both Tara's fight with Baby and Faith's fight with Spike were more than just fisticuffs, it was all the pent up history and anger rolled in one. I never thought Baby would let Tara and Willow go if Tara won; when Tara went down I thought Faith would come to the rescue. And wow, Willow really came through. Her dispatch of Tommy Talbot and Baby Dedara were wonderfully, violently satisfactory -- a quick end with a fire poker / single bullet to the head were definitely too good for them.

And the ending, with the prospect of alone time, with hot tub healing? Wonderfully, romantically satisfactory. Thank you for sharing this story.

Woo and Hoo! Just the ending I expected for this awesome action fic. Loved it. Just thought I'd mention this great line.

“She did rescue me,” Willow replied as Faith moved Tara onto the back seat, “Then I had to rescue her…”

That made me smile so much. Your characters were amazing and the plot: awesome. I really liked how you meshed some of the stories of the comics together to make it all work perfectly.

Oh, and the scene with Glory being blown to bits. *salutes Alcy*

woohoo! what a ride, and what a finale!

Although grim and gritty, I thoroughly enjoyed that fic - you kept up the atmosphere of the movie throughout, and improved on the storyline and characters no end.

Thanks

Having just (on my current long-neglected feedback kick) just been commenting on the action scenes in Rhyme & Reason, I can sum up in one sentence the difference between that fic and this one: they ran over Glory! :lmao Yes, the smiley counts as part of the sentence. It's not that the violence is less brutal, or real - the beating Tara took was especially gruesome - but it's the somewhat surreal feel that sits over the whole story, like Sin City is a little bit out of time, and there's bits of the Coliseum leaking into it through the cracks. All the violence is gladiatorial - brutal and horrible when the villains are doing it, brutal and triumphant when our heroes get their turn. And driving over Glory was just perfect, in a vicious kind of way - I burst out laughing.

I also really liked how it was Willow, in the end, who came through for Tara and took out Dedara. That was a bit of a surprise to me at first - I felt like she was Tara's villain, and it'd thus be Tara who got the last word on her. But then thinking about it, it occurred to me that the whole thrust of this story has been about Tara starting out alone, and gradually being able to include Willow in her life. In a place (and setting) like Sin City, I guess that means that, in the end, it's okay for Willow to put a bullet through anyone messing with Tara - they're not separate, and Tara no longer needs to deal with things like that on her own, without Willow being a part of it. So as much as she'd never put Willow in danger, she can accept that, if danger happens anyway, if it affects one of them it affects both of them, and there's no reason Willow can't be the one to put down someone who's hurt Tara.

So in conclusion, bravo, and... well, normally I'd hope for a sequel, but Sin City being what it is, I actually like the idea of Willow and Tara getting out of it while the going's good (and no doubt the word will get out among the various lowlifes that you do not mess with Tara Maclay, so there's a fair chance they'll be left alone). So instead of a sequel, I'll just look forward to your next fic, whatever it may be ;-)

Alcy - Here's what I have to say. That was the most vividly violent and brutal update I've ever read in fan fic. And that's saying something considering that the canon Universe is about vampires! So I'm saying this is more violent and brutal than all those Angelus goes crazy and kills everyone slowly fics and all that.

And even so or maybe given that... (take your pick) you did it absolutely perfectly. Each bit of the old violence (how do they say it in Clockwork Orange?) is spot-on. Tara's fight with Dedra (sp) is just so brutal and visceral. And that she is caught off guard when her secret is revealed is just so perfect. I mean it's that moment when Willow knows how vulnerable Tara was at one time and that's when Tara becomes completely vulnerable again. Then Willow and Tommy. That was a totally different type of horror with Willow having to rip her hands out of the cuffs. It reminded me of that terrible Steven King book (which I never finished) where the woman has to do that to get out or whatever. And then her killing Tommy is kind of edited as if Willow is too young and innocent to have that "on screen." Finally, Spike and Faith's fight is so well done. Just before that scene started I was going "what about Spike? What about Spike?" I have to say I was surpised Faith wouldn't cut his jugular after his back but if it killed him, well done for her.

I absolutely love the twist of Willow killing BD so easily and finitely. I mean of course finitely that's the meaning of killing (except in Vampire fic I guess...). And them driving over Glory and letting Willow blow up the building was just inspired.

This fic was fantastic. Very powerful. Very sexy. I'm relieved a little sad that it's over. Mostly I can't wait for your next.

Certainly didnt expect them to bomb the entire house, smart move to place the bomb in the building before doing anything else!
Willow killing all those people kinda gave me a weird feeling but I it was also good to see what she is capable of when protecting the one she loves.
Thank you for this fantastic story! :smash

dlline: Thanks very much Diane and well done on the Dibs for the final chapter ever of Sin City!
I did kinda feel a little breathless at the conclusion, just because it was such an explosion of epic proportions with people getting blown up left, right and centre. I definitely don’t think I would be able to write a similar fic for a while.
I’m glad you love the detail, the movie may be derived from a comic book but it’s a great medium for drawing attention to small things that get passed over in movies…and I love grass, so had to mention it!
And you know it’s gotta last when your love lets you blow up a mansion…I think that’s one of the most explosive gifts Tara has given Willow in any fanfic I’ve read!
I do need pestering about R & R, although the next chapter is being slowly chipped away at I keep getting caught up with VR. Still, there are only 3 more chapters to go with it so I should just get to work!

Dianneswillowtree: Well, I could only ever have a happy ending but there are happy ending and then there are ‘Sin City happy endings,’ this definitely wasn’t the latter as the hero always seems to die at the end. I’m really glad you enjoyed it.

db: I just had to have a nice literal ending…right from the start, there was always going to be a huge explosion at the end just because I felt that this was the only way the fic could end.
And it also seemed right that Willow should be the one to rescue Tara after the whole plot line started with Tara rescuing Willow, at the end they’ve come full circle, showing that they are truly tied together.

watty: Thanks very much watty, it’s kinda scary to think how many words of fan fiction I have written but I’ve had so much fun creating my little oeuvre.
It was sort of a ‘yucky’ fic, but yucky in a good way I hope. And I agree with your comment re Willow and Tara becoming equals at the end. They did start out with a pretty big imbalance which didn’t bode well for a long-term relationship (not that anything in Sin City really bodes well for a long term relationship).

Despite the violence, I did have great fun writing the individual fight sequences, each was so different…and to have Willow saving the day at the end was a new development, her killing Tommy and Dedara had to be quick, no matter what has happened to her, you could not imagine Willow despatching them in a more brutal manner. This was never a particularly romantic fic, but the ending promises happiness which is more than most could expect in Sin City.

tazraven: Hi Sara, Woo and hoo indeed! Thanks so much for your kind words, it was never an easy fit, to write Willow and Tara into Sin City given the canon natures of the girls we love, but I’m really glad it all worked out in the end…and yes, it was a fitting end for Glory wasn’t it?!

cantbefredless: Hiya, thanks very much, I’m very glad the ending came across as perfect!

diamondforever: There’s nothing like a good, dark and grimy fic, and this was darker and grimier than most! It feels great to have it finished.

spells42: Hi there Anne, glad you could join me on the ride, it was indeed a big ask for the Kittens to accept Willow and Tara in this grim universe but I’m very glad that people enjoyed it and that it was an improvement on the original Sin city storylines!

Artemis: Hehe, yes, ‘they ran over Glory’ does sum it up quite nicely. I do appreciate your analysis of the overall feel of the story, it is exactly right in that its surreal and not quite in this world at all…not that it condones excessive violence in anyway. It’s difficult to capture the atmosphere of the colourless comic strip or the movie but I hope I managed it a little.
Dedara was of course Tara’s villain and just as Spike was Buffy’s and Tommy was Willow’s, in following the formula Tara should have killed her. You’re right however, in that it shows Willow and Tara are one, what happens to one happens to the other. It was as though Willow was effectively putting an end to that horrible chapter in Tara’s life.
I think that Sin City being what it is, there will be no sequel…this isn’t a movie that has made bucket loads of money so therefore I don’t feel the need to cash in with a sequel!! (I think if any of my fics lend themselves to a sequel it will be Captain Red) While I think there would be stories to be told about them in the Sin City universe, I’d like to think that they just hightailed right out of there, just as Tara was intending to do in the first chapter. Thanks very much Chris, for both commenting and archiving this fic on your website complete with stunning wallpaper.

JustSkipIt: Hi Deb, I’m going to accept the praise of being more violent and brutal than anything done in canon Buffy as very high praise indeed. While I didn’t set out to create a deliberately violent fic, it did develop that way by virtue of its source material which was never ever going to make it one of those straight Willow/Tara romances that we all love so well.
I love your analysis of the action scenes, thank you very much, and it captures my view that none of it was written just to be as violent as possible, it all had a purpose. And you also noted my censorship of Willow killing Tommy, as satisfying as it might have been, I couldn’t bring myself to write it and I hope that the story was better for my leaving it out.
I’m more than a little sad it’s over, but also really glad at the same time. Many aspects of this fic were challenging to write and while it definitely stretched me as an author, its time to retreat back to the safer pastures of action/adventureland.
Thanks ever so much for reading and offering up your excellent analysis.

Pancakesinbellies: I sincerely hope your face is still attached! I’m glad you enjoyed it and you know I love sharing, so it’s no problem.

WillowRulez: Well, I love fireworks and it did seem a fitting way for the fic to go out. Willow killing those people, no matter how twisted or evil they were, was really, really weird and while I didn’t make any apologies for that during the writing, I know that it would have been difficult to picture and I’m really glad people enjoyed this fic for what it is.

Well, once again, thanks very much to all the Kittens who have read this story and enjoyed it. It may have been hard to stomach at times…it was definitely hard to write but I think in the end that people can see it for what it is and hopefully appreciate that Willow and Tara emerge from the darkness that is Sin City very much in love and all the better for it.
And Sin City won the award for best movie crossover at the ‘I am You Know’ awards which thrills me to no end!
Now I can consign this little tale to join the wonderful Pens archives of finished fics.

Cheers

Thanks so much for reading and enjoying Sin City, Taraholic, you never forget the first fanfiction story you read so I'm glad you tried out Sin City first. There are a few of my stories in the finished archive, 'What's Your Tale Nightingale,' 'Captain Red and the Denizens of Mars' and 'Worst Nightmare' - these three were written under my old penname of 'KiwiAlcyone'. I hope you enjoy the others and thanks for the feedback!!

Hi there gorn, no noobness involved, these are a new set of awards created for Willow/Tara fic only and there has been just one round so far. Check them out for some really great stories! I am You Know Awards
