Willow voted (17th) Best Sidekick

EW ran some poll and detailed the best sidekicks ever.

Here is Willow's entry.

17. Willow Rosenberg
Sidekick to: Buffy Summers
The once-mousy No. 2 behind Buffy's hottie superhero, Willow (a nerd-cool pioneer) tempered the vampire slayer's quip-spouting, melodramatic ways with patience, reason, and a readiness to roam the nether regions of the demon world. Eventually, Willow developed her own superidentity — without ever upstaging her stake-wielding pal — by dating a werewolf, becoming a scary-good witch, and gracefully outing herself.

I'd argue that in my mind she was no sidekick, but hey, at least Spike was not on the list at all.

I would actually argue the "without upstaging" part. It seemed to me that in S5 Willow actually kicked some major booty and at the end of S6 took Buffy down a notch.

The Onion's AV Club rated Willow #4 on their sidekicks who are cooler than their heroes list. Even better, Aly's picture accompanies the article (no offense to Tonto, but she is prettier).

I especially liked this summation: "her sexual reawakening never seemed forced, but more of a natural outgrowth of her curiosity and her deep connection to other people."
