Wow... finally managed to catch up with this story. For some reason the title didn't attract my attention earlier (tend to select on writer, so having just read Red Star Rising...).

Interesting setup you got here. I hope Tara had a somewhat fun life after arriving in SF and having Adrienne. Can't have her pining over Willow for all those years :cry.

Tara has to wonder when Willow figured out she was gay and why she couldn't have realized that earlier. That was the first thing I thought about that part; "a little late ain't it ?" :lol.

I liked this line: . “We’re going to get a pirate ship for dinner!” and all of the number-related reasoning. Very endearing. I don't get why Adrienne would want W/T to do 'all gross' stuff, as the name implies it's icky. Willow can make Tara happy, that much is sure. :flower

Tara at times sounds a bit bitter about having to raise Adrienne alone, even though that was (somewhat) her own choice. She would have put Willow in a very difficult position had she contacted her when Oz was still around though. No easy answers there, nope.

Adrienne indeed does behave a bit like Willow, all hypered up over discovering new things :lol.

Hi sweetie. Great update. Willow was cute when she picked adrienne up from daycare. :-D And yay...no Mcdonalds! Cause I'm sure we all know that anything from Mcdonalds has the nutritional equivelant of a rubber boot that has been dipped in grease and fried underneath the hood of an old truck.

I'm glad that Willow and Tara are taking things slow with regard to Adrienne. And yay. Dinner on a pirate ship! how cool is that? :-D

This was a great update.

First: Barbie. I mean, please.. Barbie?? I would die if someone called me Barbie (okay, so my name is not Barbara, so it might never happen, but...) .. Ugh anybody got my oint??

Second: The insane redhead *g*

And then (of course) Adrienne. Isn't she one of the smartest kids ever (she could have been the smartest, but there is Ariel. I hope all you guys know Ariel, don't you?)?

They should be all gross together, like Jamie’s dads. They weren’t getting there fast enough on their own, so she was going to have to make them!

YAY!!! Way to go Adrienne!!!

Come on Barbie!! Open your eyes!!! Can't you see that Adrenne is the spitting image of Willow?

I like the Willow/Adrienne interaction. Mom like, yet not. She's catching on though.

“Awww…” Willow leaned over and hugged Tara, who stiffened momentarily before returning the embrace.
Tara needed that and Willow knew...old habits, maybe? Or rekindling love?

I had a Parent Trap flashback after that last sentence. Hehehe.

SakuraEtsuko - Do I sense stalkage? Actually, if you think about it, they're not moving that slowly. It's been what, three days since Willow showed up? Look at the timeline again. It just FEELS slow because each day for them takes weeks for you ;)
What can I say? I'm a cliffhangerwhore. ...among other things ;)

LesbianJedi87 - Wow, now I'm getting bows in BOTH my fics? I feel so loved... *sniffle*

TheRose - Yeah, that's the plan.

taralicious - Funny the way kids' minds work, isn't it? It's so cute when they're that age. Then they grow up and that same behavior is considered horrible. And yes, a restaurant where they serve kids' meals in pirate ships.

onlykaren - The dinner should be fun. I have a rather exciting plot twist in mind.

watson - You'd be right on with that. I like this Barbie much better than the doll with... what was it AntigoneUnbound said? 'boobs three times the size of her feet'?

kindagay - I'm glad the character of Barbie went over so well. She'll probably be making a few more cameos.
I have to tell you, that little bit about the numbers? That was probably the hardest thing for me to write. First to figure out exactly how to put it, then how to put it into kid-speak... and I am *not* a math head. In ANY way. Doesn't look like there's a lot of particularly complicated math in there. Let me tell you, for someone with virtually no left brain...

JustSkipIt - I've actually been having trouble with dialogue lately, so I'm glad that was up to scratch. Hope this is too, and if I mess up the parental type issues, feel free to point them out. In fact, feel encouraged.

Tonto - You liked the 'special seat' bit? Heh, that was one of my more inspired moments :P ... they don't come along very often, so don't get used to them.

YMKA - Hey Marina! And lay off the nazi. It's not MY fault you can't spell. Hehe... There seems to be a bit of confusion about the name 'Barbie', so, let me clarify.
Barbie is based on my godmother. Her name is Barbara, and she runs a daycare out of her house. She looks the way I described, she acts the way I described. Since a bunch of little kids can't really pronouce 'Barbara', it was shortened to 'Barbie', and the name stuck.

sam - Glad you're liking the cuteness factor.

singgirl - Hey, real life always has to come first. Which is why this update is a day late.
And I know how that one goes! I often feel like that when reading fics by my favorite authors, like AntigoneUnbound, Cam, DarkWiccan, EasierSaid, JustSkipIt and, recently added to the ranks, the wonderous Carleen. /shameless brownnosing.

AlysonGoddess - Glad you liked it!

grimlock72 - Aw, yay. I'm an author that gets picked for reading now. I feel all sparkly! ...that is SO my new favorite word. Anywho...
As for the 'all gross' bit, you have to remember, that was from a four and a half year old's perspective. To her, kisses and gay love is damned gross. She's four, boys (and possibly girls ;)) have cooties!

Miss Kittys Ball O Yarn - Oooh, an excellent description of McDick's food (and you know, that name and all it implies seems even more appropriate on a board that's 75% lesbian...)
Hun, the dinner isn't on a pirate ship. Kids' meals come in little cardboard pirate ships. It's a restaurant, called White Spot. Fun place.

Insanity - Might I direct you to Marina's feedback for an explanation on the choice of name 'Barbie'?
Of course we know Ariel! Who couldn't know Ariel?

terra21 - I don't think Barbie can wrap her mind around the implications of Adrienne looking like two different, unrelated women.
Parent Trap! I love that movie! ...the original. The remake is just... bad.

hahler - Sorry Dawn! I really didn't mean for it to be late, but the internet was all screwy yesterday, on top of a complete and utter lack of inspiration all week. Must find some way to fix that. Be proactive-with-pep gal.

--------------------
CHAPTER 10
--------------------

Tara, Adrienne and Willow strode into the warmly coloured restaurant. It didn’t seem to be very busy, there were one or two families scattered around the booths, but they were few and far between. Adrienne grinned up at the two women whose hands she was holding. Her eyes darted from one of her own hands to the other, back and forth for a moment, before she stepped back a little. Bringing her hands together, she slipped her own smaller hands from the women’s.

They gripped each other’s hands tightly, not realizing at first what Adrienne had done. They remained standing there, waiting for a server to take them to a table, oblivious to the contact until they heard Adrienne giggle – distinctly farther away than she could be if she were holding their hands.

Willow and Tara turned in unison to see the little girl, sitting on the bench for waiting people, smiling at their joined hands. Quickly, they parted, brushing the offending appendages nervously on their clothes.

“Oh, um, sorry. I didn’t mean to… uh, not that I don’t, I do, but, I mean… uh… sorry.” Willow waved her hands about frantically in an attempt to apologize, catching the eye of a server just exiting.

“Hello, ladies.” He eyed Adrienne, who was now frowning at her parents’ very much separated hands. “Table for three, and a booster seat?”

Tara shook herself out of her thoughts. “Oh, um, yes please.” She frowned. What on earth had Willow been getting at, and why was she apologizing? She hadn’t done anything, it was obvious that Adrienne was being her usual smartaleck self.

The server smiled and waved the menus he was holding in the direction of the booths. “Right this way, please.”

They followed him to a corner booth, away from the rest of the people. He smiled graciously at them as he stuck the booster seat firmly to the booth and offered Adrienne a hand up. “There you are, miss.” He settled her in. “I’ll be back in a moment to take your orders. Would you like anything to drink?”

Willow nodded, seating herself across from Adrienne. “Water, please.”

Tara went to sit beside Adrienne, but she shook her head. “Mommy, I can sit by myself.” She planted her hands on her hips, giving her what was quite obviously her version of ‘resolve face’. Then her expression changed to a bright, hopeful smile. “And can I have root beer?”

Looking from one grinning redhead to the other, she threw her hands up in mock exasperation. She cast a glance at the server as she seated herself next to Willow. “Water for me too please, and a small root beer for Miss Smarty Pants over there.”

With a cheerful grin, he smiled and nodded, heading off. Willow chuckled, seeing the flash of a hemp bracelet around his wrist, decorated with rainbow coloured beads. “San Francisco really is the family capital, isn’t it?”

“Definitely. You should see the art galleries.”

Adrienne looked from one woman to the other and shook her head. They were doing that silly grownup thing again, where they were talking and only said half of what they meant. It was weird. She was happy though; she saw Jamie’s daddies doing it all the time, so it had to be good, right?

“So, Adrienne, what did you do today?” Tara’s attention was locked on her daughter. Adrienne huffed. What did it take?

“Nothin’.” If they weren’t going to talk to each other, then she wasn’t going to talk to either of them, and that was that! She crossed her arms over her chest.

Tara rolled her eyes. “Adrienne, sweetie, are you all right? You’re acting very strangely.” Willow giggled. Tara shot her a sharp glance, eyes wide. “Will!”

“What? Kids act funny sometimes. That’s what they do.” Tara raised her eyebrow in mild rebuke, and Willow tilted her head to the side. “Oh come on. Like you never gave your parents a…” She trailed off, looking suddenly chastened. “Er… well, okay, good point. But still! Aren’t you glad Adrienne is willing to act funny around you?”

Tara sighed. “I guess, if you put it that way.

The server came back with a tray with five drinks balanced on it. He placed three of them down on their table, water in front of each of the women and the small root beer in front of Adrienne, who grinned and immediately clamped her lips around the straw. The other two drinks looked alcoholic in nature. These he took over to a nearby table, in which Willow could see a guy staring obviously at the other seat, somewhere near breast level, and laughing randomly. Huh, must be a knockout.

Punching Willow lightly in the arm, Tara giggled. “What, see a pretty girl somewhere?”

A soft smile broke Willow’s lips as she turned to face Tara. “Well… yeah.” Both girls blushed and looked down.

The server, Steve by the name on his tag, came back a moment later after depositing the alcohol on the other table. “May I take your orders, or would you like some more time to decide?”

Shaking her head, Tara smiled. “Well, Will’s the only one who’s been here before.” She looked over at the redhead beside her. “What do you say?”

Willow’s eyes widened. “Um, what? You want me to o-order for you? Oh, uh, I don’t… I don’t know.” She paused, the expression on her face the very picture of anxiety. “Um… I guess… a hamburger pirate pak for Adrienne, I’ll have the teriyaki chicken, with the prawns, and Tara, what do you think? Soup, salad?”

“Sure, that sounds good. What kinds?”

“Um…” Willow flipped hesitantly through her menu. “Oh, this one sounds good, the hot chargrilled chicken caesar. ‘Romaine, croutons and parmesan with sliced chargrilled chicken breast and our signature Caesar dressing.’ What do you think, want to try?”

Tara smiled. “Mm, yum. All right, I’ll have that.”

Steve smiled. “Excellent choices, all. Will the pirate pak have fries or a small salad?”

“Salad, please.” Willow looked at Adrienne with her eyebrows raised. Apparently the girl had Tara’s taste. When she was four, there was no way she’d have asked for salad. It was all about the deep fried fake potatoes.

He nodded, fixing Adrienne with a wide smile. “Very good, miss.” Adrienne giggled and returned her lips to her straw, gazing at Steve out of the corner of her eye.

Tara and Willow exchanged a quiet smile.

Moments passed in a comfortable silence, broken occasionally by a flirtatious giggle coming from the other table. Casting a glance over, Tara realized that the one making the distinctly feminine sound was the man. She nudged Willow discreetly and gestured her head in that direction. As the man laughed again, Willow fought back a snort.

“Ah, San Francisco.”

Willow snorted again. “Well, it takes all kinds, I suppose. Some odder than others.”

Tara quirked her eyebrow again, giving a teasing half-grin. “Oh, and you’re normal?”

“I never said that! Just because I say someone is odd, doesn’t mean I’m saying that I’m not odd. Why does everyone automatically assume that?”

Bursting into gales of laughter, Tara rested her head momentarily on Willow’s shoulder. Adrienne, on the other side of the table, looked down, masking her face with her hands. Everything was going right. Not that her plan was anything compycated, but still. Soon everything would be the way it was supposed to be.

Faster than expected, the server returned, placing a large, colourful and delicious looking salad in front of Tara, a plate of chicken and a skewer of large, plump prawns in front of Willow, and the pirate pak in front of Adrienne.

Eyes wide with something akin to wonder, Adrienne stared at the display in front of her. It was a cardboard pirate ship, with little cartoon people sticking out of those funny holes on the sides. In the middle part, her burger sat next to her salad. At the back, there was a container of what looked like ice cream, and at the front was CHOCOLATE! Shaped like a coin, too! Adrienne’s fingers twitched on the table, and Willow chuckled.

Tara smiled as she watched her daughter pick up her fork and dive into the salad, managing to get the tiny amount of dressing absolutely everywhere but in her mouth. Shaking her head slightly, she picked up her own fork to attend to her meal.

Willow smiled and thanked the server before taking up her knife and fork and cutting into the chicken.

None of them noticed the pale face, framed with dark, wavy hair and imbued with dark eyes peering at them from the neighboring table.

Hey,
Well it definitely seems that Adrienne has a mission. I don't spot the Neverland thing but I'm not exactly an expert. Adrienne is quite cute. Food in fun boxes is always better than not. How interesting that the girls are so obviously into each other but don't admit it out loud. Of course, this is what day #2 of their remeeting? Maybe a little slower is good. Great update.

Hehe.. cute with Adrienne slipping out between her two mommies having them effectivly holding hands :lol.

I wonder what her reasoning is for wanting W/T together. Just because Jamie's dads are like that too ? Or does she think Tara will be happier that way, does a 4 year old think that way at all?? Has been a looooong time since I was four so I don't recall :).

I do hope Adrienne eats fries now and then, can have her grow up entirely on healthy food :) The chocolate does take care of that problem a bit though, heh. She should talk to her parents, I like it when she talks or bables :) Not talking wont help to get W/T to talk to each other either way, they don't get subtle hints.

Not to sure about whomever was looking from the side at W/T/A but I like to be precautious and see that I don't trust him/her/it. Better not get anywhere near Adrienne :smash.

Aww, how cute is little cupid Adrienne? Very cute indeed :)

How on earth did Willow & Tara not realise that they were holding each other's hands & not Adrienne's? :confused Even if there wasn't that little spark between them, an adults hand is significantly bigger than that of a child - I guess they were both all lost in their own thoughts.

What on earth had Willow been getting at, and why was she apologizing? She hadn’t done anything, it was obvious that Adrienne was being her usual smartaleck self.

Well yes, to Tara it's obvious that Adrienne is just being her usual self, but, Willow's not used to Adrienne's usual self, so the apology was understandable.

“Nothin’.” If they weren’t going to talk to each other, then she wasn’t going to talk to either of them, and that was that! She crossed her arms over her chest.
Very cute, & perfect child-logic.

Punching Willow lightly in the arm, Tara giggled. “What, see a pretty girl somewhere?”

A soft smile broke Willow’s lips as she turned to face Tara. “Well… yeah.” Both girls blushed and looked down.
Aww :x

Aww, that was so sweet how Tara let Willow order for her :D & Willow being all nervous about it was just adorable :x

Tara rested her head momentarily on Willow’s shoulder
Oh it's so exciting, I feel the same as Adrienne, everything is indeed going right :D

I get the feeling that Adrienne will never want to go to McD's ever again :) That was just wonderful, you really captured the whole child-like wonderment just perfectly - very well done :clap

None of them noticed the pale face, framed with dark, wavy hair and imbued with dark eyes peering at them from the neighboring table
Uh-oh, that's not good. :paranoid Who's watching our girls? I do hope whoever it is doesn't cause any trouble?

Well, I look forward to reading more, & finding out who the mystery stalker-y type person is.

Hugs

Wonderful update as always!

“San Francisco really is the family capital, isn’t it?”
As the man laughed again, Willow fought back a snort.
“Ah, San Francisco.”

I loved the "subtle" references to San Francisco.......of course they are all true! :-D

“Oh, um, sorry. I didn’t mean to… uh, not that I don’t, I do, but, I mean… uh… sorry.” Willow waved her hands about frantically in an attempt to apologize

Gosh Willow........nervous much! That line was so cute! Well written.

“Oh, this one sounds good, the hot chargrilled chicken caesar. ‘Romaine, croutons and parmesan with sliced chargrilled chicken breast and our signature Caesar dressing.

This made me sooooooo hungry! The salad sounds so good. Does this restaurant really exist, or is it fictional?

Who's peering at them.......I'm getting scared........I don't like to be scared like this! I hope this mystery person will be revealed soon so that we can get rid of mr/ms pale face so that the happy family can get on with the happy.

LOVED IT! :-D :applause Adrienne was adorable and appears to be adjusting well to all the changes going on in her life. And Willow and Tara seem to be getting to be more comfortable with eachother as more and more time passes. I can't wait to see what happens as time goes by. Will Willow leave Tara and Adrienne to go back to her home? Or will she decide to stay and help Tara take care of their child? There are so many questions !! :-D

You're doing a great job Megan of showing us how adorable and scheming a four year old Adrienne is. She's constantly scheming, and thank goodness for her, cos her mommies
were doing that silly grownup thing again, where they were talking and only said half of what they meant.

and that won't do!

The small subtle signs that Adrienne's mommies are starting to respond to the scheming, or they're already starting to get into each other again ... like Willow shocked embarrassment at holding Tara's hands, probably more to do with how much she liked holding Tara's hands; the little slip of tongue
Like you never gave your parents a…

the food ordering, the glances at the other couples, the easy banter.

Loved Adrienne's reaction to the hamburger pirate pak, sounds so yummy all us kittens should go try it out.

The stranger at the end, a whole lot of worrisome. Not sure who that might be, the only person with dark wavy hair and dark eyes that I can think of is Halfrek. There to make sure the child is well treated? Perhaps she's there to help Adrienne's mommies get all gross?

Lovely update! :x
Adrienne was so cute, trying to get Will and Tara together!
But I have no clue who might be the person peering at them. I just hope it isn't anyone mean or anything.
Can't wait for the next update!

Hey there,
A very cute update. I'm so glad they avoided McDs as I said. Glad you agree about that. I can't imagine letting someone order for me after 4 years. Hell, I don't want anyone to order for me now cause I'm really picky. I mean Rachel could order for me but that's becuase I always eat the same thing (food I mean--mind out of the gutter).

Anyway, I'm concerned about who is watching them but intrigued too. Well done. Debra

Megan,
Remember normal is only a setting on your dryer.
With that said, we can turn our attention to the cliff-hangery goodness you have presented us with.
Who is the mysterious lurker in the restaurant?
I would guess Drogyn to ensure that Willow takes a dip in Tara's deeper well.
Oh that Adrienne, she's a one isn't she?
The merry dance she'll lead both her mommies on when she his puberty.

Hey there,
I just found this fic and read through it in one sitting and I have to say I really like it so far. Thank you for not making W/T get back together easily, especially after everything that's happened to the two of them in your buffyverse.

Nice cliffhanger here, I really really want to know who the stranger is. I hope that it's Faith. Mainly because I adore her. Plus, it could totally be her. She has dark eyes and dark wavy hair. All you had to add was that the stranger was incredibly gorgeous and it would've been Faith for sure.

Oh, also, I think the Neverland shout out was the San Francisco art gallery reference, yes? Do I get a cookie?

Keep up the great work!

NOTICE!

Unfortunately, the update cannot be posted on time this week. The disk I kept the chapters on fell on the floor, and one of my cats threw up on it. I'm not sticking that thing in my computer.

I remember more or less what happened in the update, and so I'll be able to rewrite it, but it'll take me a couple of days. Expect it sometime this weekend, Friday or Saturday most likely.

Sorry guys :ashamed

That's a pretty comedic chain of events. Your cat must be anti W/T. *shakes head at it*

Just wanted to leave a note to let you know that I'm enjoying this fic, even though it is torturously slow. It made me want a Pirate Burger. Adrienne is adorable and I love her little plan. Good on her, I say.

A disk? Really? Wow, I haven't seen one of those in a while. It's all CDs and DVDs and External Data Keys. That must be why everyone switched. I remember seeing the packaging: "Easier to clean if your cat barfs on it! New! Now!"
