Go team Akathla! :bounce Maybe this little breather will let them heal the wounds of their nasty tribal council from last episode, and get on as a unified team.

Poor Riley though, ya gotta feel for the guy. He's got one talent, and he doesn't get to use it... although 'provide opportunity for Tara to look awesome' could count as a second talent, and from the look of the coming-next-week trailer he's not the only one who's noticed that if you're stuck on a deserted island, you want Tara with you... (my mind just went to a smutty place :D ). Richard is annoying me - if he were as good a leader as he thinks he is, he'd recognise his own shortcomings, rather than just harping on about someone else's. I guess it was no surprise that Riley got the heave-ho this week, but I don't see much future in Richard's plans for extended tribal mayorhood. If I were him, I wouldn't do too much gloating about Riley being voted off, I doubt it'd endear him to anyone else. Ah well, farewell Captain Cardboard :wave

Buffy and Joyce meeting on the yacht was really interesting. No awkwardness or anything, just straight to work checking up on each other and exchanging intel. I was actually surprised how overtly they did that, but I guess it went both ways, so it's not like either team is being undermined, as such... still, again I wonder what the fallout will be when their teammates learn the truth. Nice of Buffy to sneak some food back for her team though :)

Poor pig... still, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. And it might have been one of those savage Principal-Flutie-eating pigs you hear about, so best to get it out of the way before it tries to eat any of the teams. I could go for a bacon sandwich about now... :hmm

I think Xander's in trouble. Sure he's 'fessed up to his idiocy, but I'm not sure he's really taking in the big picture. He's got to think smarter to win? Dude, how about just thinking smarter to stay in the game at all... But by the look of the trailer, looks like he's in plenty of hot water. Seems like Team Akathla doesn't have a firm leadership candidate the way the MFashneks do - I mean, dump Richard and they're pretty much the Faith team, but the Akathlas seem more like they're operating by committee.

Great episode, yay for Tara the tribal wise-woman :D

I am really loving this work. There seems to be so many opportunities for exploration, so many nooks and crannies where you can, and will, take this. I still think its clever how you work the two timeframes into giving us such a wide array of interesting foci, and yourself a wide variety of choices about which to write: the past with the island and all the possibilities that exists because of the unique situation and wide cast of characters; the present with Tara and Ariel, Willow and Joan; and of course Willow and Tara which link the two timeframes. Even though you’ve established that Willow and Tara have an attraction to each other on the island, we still get the wonderful thrill of them dating in the present tense. I know what I just said is obvious, but I still think it’s clever. And it reminds me of how you’re often at the fore of creative/new fan fiction ideas. Wasn’t it Artemis who comments on his website that Please is ‘the original kitten’?

And thank you again, for creating Tara and Willow with romantic pasts. Even though Willow is a playgirl, something she wasn’t in canon, you still bring elements of canon characterisation into this. Not only with original dialogue (‘large with the butch’), but when playgirl Willow jokes about having to stand up for her claim on Tara, I can just feel canon Willow’s hesitancy, hope, insecurity, and fear all rolled up in that jokey comment. I am, however, interested in why Willow is avoiding acknowledgement of her amorous past when Tara teases her! Still their growing relationship is very sweet, innocent, even. One can tell Willow really wants to get this right. She’s smitten and knows that Tara is someone very, very special, perhaps once-in-a-lifetime. Their courting just gives me all kinds of warm fuzzies. Willow wears her hope and attraction to Tara a bit more on her sleeve, and Tara, while just as interested, seems to enjoy playing/teasing Willow ever so slightly. It’s a really endearing W/T match you created. And I get to watch it develop week after week by just logging on to Pens. How lucky can one get.

Other things I continue to like: Ariel and Tara’s relationship because its loving, honest, parental and sweet and you don’t make your six year old say adult things, which can be a common and sometimes creepy fiction pitfall.

Great stuff. I'm hooked.

Re: Survivor - Ash Island

Postby JustSkipIt » Wed Mar 23, 2005 4:43 pm

cperrins78 – Thanks. I’m glad you’re intrigued. Yes, Buffy and mom are missing each other and both worried.

hidden Watson – Of course, take a while to organize your comments. Glad to have the agreement on the IC. I don’t think that Miss Ali liked it all that much but maybe she’s just so bored with the whole “Ulong sucks” issue plus which really her job is satire (my computer tried to spell for me and came up with attire which is entirely different from the TWOP mission statement I think). Actually it was a cost for me because I had already written the other one and it also had extensive conversation about it (at TC, back at camp, in the real world…) but that’s the way the writing crumbles I guess.

Glad you are more ok with the elim. I must say that 1. Riley is more hurt than Jeff and 2. MFashnek really doesn’t have anyone who so clearly deserves to go home as Kim. Geez, what a waste of space. And clueless… but I obviously digress.

Buffy is quite strong although I don’t think that the pig catching is a true testament of that. I’d say helping to carry Oz is more of an indication. But no, no slayer strength: just a really fit chick.

Before posting, I really thought about the lack of W/T interaction but we can’t really get it into every episode since they are on opposite teams. Nice pick up of the Willow line and I won’t way which it is.

Good speculation on the “who’s next” but I will say that the Akathla players aren’t exactly the long-sighted souls you would like. Their scheming is all, what was that word: rojak? You’re exactly right about Tara’s danger and Richard’s reason for scheming.

Thanks for the thoughts: Asher. He’s just amazing and doing a great job with the walking. He was really fast before when he was crawling and now is actually slower walking. The biggest problem right now is that he is obsessed with the They Might be Giants No dvd and wants to watch it on the computer all the time! I keep telling myself at least he’s obsessed with a computer rather than a TV video. Pretty lame rationalization.

the hero factor -

Quote:
Was this a dig at all the speechifying Buffy did in season seven?
Great catch. Both a dig at the s7 speechifying (“people are going to DIE!”) and the s5 speech that Giles and Spike comment isn’t exactly the “St Crispins” day speech (sp). Glad you liked it.

meretricious – Yes to them winning a roll of the dice but I do definitely pity them. I expected them to be much stronger. I think they are all eating things they wouldn’t normally eat (see W/T conversation re: bugs on their date) and that includes Willow and pork. Xander knows he’s an idiot but don’t expect him to be learning from it.

Quote:
how and when do they decide to combine the tribes, is it strictly a numbers thing?
The players have no control over it. The show decides. What I don’t know is if they plot out the entire progression of the season with challenges, rewards, and when merge will happen or if they have it be more dynamic. Generally merge happens when there are 8-10 players left.

Artemis – Ha ha. I’ll go ahead and say: “Good luck” on your dream for a unified Akathla team. I can’t say that I’m sorry to see Riley go and not use his “one talent.” I certainly don’t hate Riley but I think he’s a complete waste of space. I love the AntigoneUngone (I could be wrong about who to attribute this to) fic where a long time goes by before anyone even notices that he isn’t around any more.

Richard should be annoying you. That comment lets me know that I’m writing him well. I mean he was a very good evil, impenetrable and mostly indestructible demon but as a real guy? Wouldn’t he just really bug you? All that making speeches and homilies? At the same time there’s a big difference between being a leader on Survivor and being the person who wins the game.

Re: the intel and meeting. It’s pretty cool actually that whenever they do one of these “share with the enemy” things, they get quite a bit of intel. They kind of pump the other person for info and the person gives it up thinking: “well I still have my team but when we merge, I have the makings for being pulled in to vote off the people I’ve been pissing off for the first few weeks.” The invited person kind of gets a foot in each boat if that makes sense.

Quote:
Nice of Buffy to sneak some food back for her team though
Again. It’s an absolute Survivor tradition that if you get a reward challenge where you can get a bunch of food, you will sneak some back. Last season the girls brought back food but gave the other women some chicken and told the guys they could only bring back bones and gave them those. It was actually really sad and mean because those guys went over the bones and ate them and thanked the girls over and over for the bounty.

I think you’re right about Xander and about the leadership methods at the various teams.

stillrunning – Thanks. Ha ha. Are you watching Palau? Olong is a bunch of idiots but at least Stephanie is cool.

willlovestara – Thanks for reading. It’s ok if you don’t leave fb (not preferred of course but still good). Thanks for the kind words.

DreamLover – Sounds like you’re really busy. You’ll get to it when you get to it though. Enjoy the story anyway. Thanks.

littlecrazy80 – Thanks. I’m glad you like the descriptions.

robotguru – Well, don’t worry about it at all. My first priority is that people read it (and like it is good too). Then comes feedback. If you’re too busy, I totally understand. But thanks. I’m glad you like both parts.

daiailun – I think you are right in your observations about the “nooks and crannies.” It really does provide an amazingly wide spectrum of choices about where I direct this. I am writing both parts simultaneously so I can insert something into the Island story that will be related to months later in the aftershow or vice versa. It’s also great because since we know that the show itself is edited, I can also flashback to something later. It’s also dangerous because I think that flashbacks are a real crutch. It can mean that the writer is relying on them to put in stuff they should have done as they wrote. I currently plan only one flashback and it’s for a very specific purpose and hopefully justified. I’ll also say that the web of characters will be expanding past even those you present below. I hope it continues to interest… Thank you so much for the comment about Please. That is a story that I love because it stretches my abilities as a writer (no pun intended). I attempt to use every post of that story to explore a new approach to my writing.

You know, quite a few people are commenting on Tara & Willow’s romantic pasts. While I am a romantic and really love the idea of their being each other’s first and only true love, I also think that reality is well… real sometimes. I like the idea that it’s not that “you’re my first and it’s wonderful” but the other thought: “I’ve sampled quite a few of the offerings and know that you’re the best there is!” I would say that Willow’s hesitancy to talk about her past is more a function of her fear that Tara will think she’s not serious, that Tara’s a conquest, or something equally not flattering than any shame or big dark secret. I can say as someone who has … well used my youth to its fullest that when one is ready to settle down, it’s scary to make peace with the past and to convince the love of your (my) life that I’m serious. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, I’m glad you like the dynamic which you have some excellently pinpointed.

Again, many people like the Tara and Ariel relationship. I will say that I’m basing the types of Ariel conversations on the children I know who are that age. They are amazingly innocent and straightforward and curious about many things.

Thanks again for your wonderful comments.

Hey Debra :)

That was an engaging episode, as usual. You’re even better at this reality show thing than the actual reality shows. Then again, I don’t care about any of those random people nearly as much as I care about the Scoobs. From the little teaser for the next episode and from your comment to HiddenWatson… I get the feeling that Xander’s about to be voted off next on Akathla. Which is totally fine with me- I mean, I’d be sad if Xander outlasted Oz- almost as sad as I would be if Richard outlasted Tara. From Buffy’s comments to Joyce, I see that Oz hasn’t really earned the trust of Buffy and Willow yet- at the same time, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that he’s in immediate danger. So I agree with HiddenWatson in that it’s between Mac and Xander. Mac is really not a good guy to have around when the teams merge; I think he’d get along with Richard. But at least he’s wily- unlike Xander.

I get the feeling that if she lasts, Joyce will end up voting with Tara. If she decides to follow Richard’s plan and try to vote her off, (and if the attempt fails) I definitely see some tension when the teams finally merge. Buffy and Willow’s friendship seems solid, and Willow and Tara will definitely be voting together when the merge happens. Perhaps an uneasy alliance of Joyce, Buffy, Willow, Tara and Faith or Kendra? Are Survivor alliances ever that big? There will probably be some fall-outs along the way. The only relationships I feel confident enough in are Buffy and Joyce, Willow and Tara, and Tara and Faith since by the end of the game they’re still really good friends and it’s pretty clear from the teaser that Faith is not about to betray Tara. I don’t know if Willow and Buffy is going to last, since Willow doesn’t know about Joyce yet. Willow, Tara and Faith are a potential alliance in my head- with possibly Kendra if there isn’t complications in the Mfashnek Trio. Then again, these are wild guesses. I really like how you’re able to integrate a lot of after-show stuff without any overt spoilers of the show- though I don’t think Tara’s in much danger to be booted next episode, as she and Willow seem to have been on several “dates” during the game.

It’s clear right now that MFashnek is the stronger team- though Richard irritates me. He, Joyce and Robin might vote together against Tara- and Joyce is ambiguous. I think if Tara, Faith and Kendra agree on one person to vote off, either one of the other three would leave or there’d be a draw. Then, it’s anybody’s call.

I’m still rooting for Faith and Oz. Can’t wait for the next update. :)

Action packed episode, Debra...nice to see the slow buildup of paranoia and positioning kicking in. As much as Riley got the shaft for an injury that may have gotten better, he's exactly the type of player I dislike: the physically fit guy who thinks WAY too highly of his own abilities. He probably thought it was a compliment, but when he referred to Tara as "that girl," I wanted to go all Hothead Paisan on his ass.

Interesting that despite her dislike of Richard, Faith didn't seem to press the issue of who to vote off (not that we saw, anyway). That's clearly about to change however, if he's decided to try to oust Tara next. He of course is my other least favorite type: the schemer who gets rid of all the strong players to save his own worthless hide.

So Buffy and Joyce got to have some quality time, but I wonder if anyone overheard their conversation and picked up the fact that they're mother and daughter. That would be some useful information to have, since their strongest alliance right now is to each other. Being held responsible for voting off one could have consequences later. Can't wait to see what's next!

ravenousgrape – Lol. Thanks for the compliment. I think that some reality TV shows do what they do very well but I can see your view. Your comments contain A LOT of guesses about who goes next, middle, and last none of which I can confirm nor deny but I appreciate the extensive thought you’ve put into the analysis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good question. Basically an alliance can be big enough to out number the non-alliance but everyone knows that when it gets down to it, the alliance will have to begin to eliminate itself. Too many people and you have to start not trusting the others because eventually they want to be the final five rather than you, etc. Generally a good alliance is either 2 or 3 people.

You make good points about the relationships we can count on.

At the time I started the aftershow, I really hadn’t though about how difficult it would be to avoid spoilers for the island. It is quite a challenge.

Thanks so much for your comments.

tarawhipped – Lol. Yes, to slow paranoia and positioning. I’m not sure I’d say Riley got the shaft. On that day he was the least able to help and the most easily eliminated which is how people get booted.

Faith’s smart enough to not want to take on Richard just yet. She is counting on having her chance later. I can tell you that no one overheard anything with Buffy and Joyce. Thanks for your comments. Here is an update for your trouble.

Note – Don’t avoid reading the next part and sorry for the double post.

Willow watched the credits and scenes from next week roll before turning off the television. “Well, that was very interesting, honey,” Sheila said quietly.

“Have um, have you been watching it, mom?” Willow asked.

“I never saw it before but I’ve watched all your shows,” the older woman told her daughter, “I would watch you on a show about foot fungus you know.”

“I think Kelli is more likely to be on a foot fungus show,” Willow joked about her sister. “Um, what have you thought?”

Sheila took a breath before answering, “I guess I thought it was all about survival skills but it seems more about tricks and friendships.”

Willow laughed before answering honestly, “I wouldn’t have done very well on a straight-up survival skills show, mom.”

“I’m not sure you’d do well on a ‘straight’ anything,” Sheila teased her youngest daughter.

“Mom!” Willow exclaimed in mock horror.

“Seriously,” Shelia asked, “what was going on with you and that Tara girl? Did anything happen?”

“Hey, look at that,” the redhead suddenly exclaimed, “I need to go make a phone call.” She got up and left her parents in the room. Once in the hallway, she took the elevator to ground level and went outside to sit in the garden area she had found the day before. She quickly hit the speed dial button and waited.

“Willow?” Tara answered the phone.

“Hey,” the redhead said, “I never knew you’d be so into being tied up.”

“You too,” Tara joked back. “How is your dad?” Tara asked with concern. When Willow had called the day before, Tara had barely been able to understand her words. They had been planning a trip for Willow to come up and spend the weekend with Tara and to get to meet Ariel. However, that had changed when Willow had called Wednesday. It took some time for Tara to understand that Willow was not hurt but that her father was in the hospital in Raleigh. Her plane had been boarding and she couldn’t talk. Tara spent a very upset few hours until Willow called her from the Raleigh airport.

“It was definitely a heart attack but the doctors say he’s very healthy,” Willow explained. “They said he’s got to make some ‘lifestyle changes.’”

“When can he get out of the h-hospital?” Tara asked.

“In a few days,” Willow answered.

“I’m sure he and your mom are glad to have you there,” the blonde told her.

“I guess so,” Willow agreed, suddenly feeling every bit as young as her 21 years and feeling all the fear of the last 36 hours. “He looks so small, Tara,” she said in a tearful whisper.

“He’s going to be fine, baby,” Tara assured her, “I can tell these things.”

“I wish you were here with me,” Willow whined.

“You’re the most intelligent, strong, loving woman I’ve ever met, Willow,” Tara said with more than a hint of tears in her voice, “I’m sure you’re doing fine.”

Willow chuckled: “Sure if I can fend off my mother’s questions about the show and particularly one very gorgeous blonde from the show.”

“Darla huh?” Tara teased.

“No, silly,” Willow joked back, “Buffy.”

“Of course,” Tara said.

“You probably need to get to bed,” Willow said as she realized how late it was.

“You too,” Tara said, “Although you’re used to going out to pick up women after your notoriety.”

“Not anymore, Tara,” Willow said suddenly serious.

“I’ll talk to you tomorrow, Will,” Tara said.

“Sleep well,” the redhead replied before disconnecting.

--

“Do you want a glass of wine, Tara?” her mother asked as she set the dinner plates on the table.

“I’ll get us each one,” the blonde replied. She returned to the table a few minutes later with their glasses.

“What are Ariel and Kent doing this weekend?” Sarah asked. The two women had a long standing “dinner date” on Friday nights when Kent had his visitation. Although they saw each other nearly every day when Tara picked up Ariel after work, they savored this opportunity to visit as adults.

“I’m not sure,” Tara responded as she began eating, “he mentioned something about the fair.”

“What about you?”

“Probably work on my art,” Tara responded as the phone rang. Sarah got up and answered the phone and was gone a few minutes before she returned. “Telemarketer?” Tara guessed.

“Reporter,” Sarah explained. At Tara’s apology her mother waved her hand. “Don’t worry about it honey, this will die down.”

“I got two calls y-yesterday,” Tara said sadly.

“Didn’t you expect it?”

“No,” Tara explained, “I really didn’t. I mean I’m just me. Boring old, Tara. I can’t imagine why people want to read or hear about my life.”

“You’re a celebrity now, sweetie,” Sarah told her daughter, only half-teasing. “Speaking of celebrities,” Sarah said, “did you know that my bridge club meets at Cappelli’s on Wednesday nights.

“How nice for you,” Tara said with a pretty good idea where this conversation was going.

“And Karri asked me how The Incredibles was,” Sarah said. “It seems that while Ariel and I were at the movies, you had a date with a certain red-headed Willow?”

“You knew I h-had a date, mom,” Tara said as she finished her wine.

“Yes, I did,” Sarah agreed as the two women started to clear the table. “I just didn’t know it was with a ’21 year-old software startup company owner’ from Atlanta.” She put air quotes around the title.

“She um was in t-town on business,” Tara lamely explained.

“Really,” Sarah teased some more, “what a fortunate coincidence. She didn’t have any of this ‘business’ this weekend?” Again she used the air-quotes.

“Her father’s in the hospital in Raleigh,” Tara explained, “he had a heart attack Wednesday.”

“Oh,” Sarah said, becoming serious, “I’m so sorry. Is he going to be ok?”

“He has to make some changes but apparently he’s going to be fine,” Tara explained.

“And the two of you?” Sarah led.

Tara sighed for a moment. “Mom,” she started, “you know that I can’t tell you anything about the show.”

“Yes, baby,” her mother said,”but you can tell me about your life now.” She waited a second and told her, “You know, when you told me about Ariel, I was shocked. I mean here I thought you were gay all those years and then you tell me you’re pregnant at 18. So I thought I was just confused but then you said you were gay.” She laughed a little: “I remember thinking ‘maybe it doesn’t mean what I thought it meant.’”

Tara laughed back. “It means exactly what you thought, Mom.”

“My point, baby girl,” Sarah told her only daughter, “is that I only want what every mother wants for her daughter: for you to be happy.”

“I hear that,” Tara said as she leaned forward and hugged her mom. She sat back and picked up the DVD cases off the coffee table. “Now what movies did you get?”

Title – Survivor – Ash Island

Part 11 – Early Show (Riley)

Author – JustSkipIt

Pairing – Who do you think? (W/T of course)

Feedback – Oh yes.

Spoilers–None

Ratiing – G to PG

Disclaimer – I own none of these characters nor do I own Survivor. And believe it or not, I also don’t own any small islands. On the other hand, this island is fictional so let’s say I own it. I’m making no money from this fiction and intend no copyright infringement.

Notes – Sorry for the double post but I didn’t want to mix these together. Also, yes chronologically this should really go in the break in part 10 but I wanted to keep the two foci separate.

We see Riley wearing a pair of pressed khaki slacks and a blue button down shirt, standing in front of the Early show Survivor set. Next to him is Harry who welcomes him and asks him to have a seat. “Welcome to the Early Show, Riley,” Harry launches right in.

“Nice to be here,” Riley answers amicably.

“You must have been disappointed to only make it to the 11th day,” Harry says. “You would have seemed to be in the best health of anyone, perhaps ever, on Survivor.”

“Well, you know that’s not all there is to Survivor,” Riley answers. “There’s a lot more to that game than your physical conditioning.”

“But most of the competitors are in pretty good shape,” Harry says again.

“You’re not kidding me, Harry,” Riley says with a smile, “Robin, Kendra, Faith, even Buffy from the Akathla team are some of the best conditioned people I’ve ever met.”

“What about Tara?” Harry asks. “What’s up with her. She seems shy but she’s friendly with Akathla and how does she do the things she does? She healed your leg and found fruit and made anti-bug paste?”

“Harry,” Riley told him, “I’ll tell you what. She’s the person this game was made for. She might not be as strong or as fast as the other players but she has tremendous smarts and she knows everything there is to know about jungle survival. Without her help on my leg, I could have been airlifted from that island.”

“Who would you pick to win it all?” Harry asks.

“I can’t answer that question,” Riley tells Harry with a smile. They shake hands and the focus shifts to Julie at the news desk.

There ya go, Captain Cardboard has a function after all - he's Tara's cheerleader. Just don't put him in a cheerleader outfit, okay? Really. Please not that :paranoid

Okay, moving on to things that don't involve Riley in lycra (shudder)... As Christina said, a pity Willow and Ariel didn't meet yet, but all things come to those who wait and all that. Pity also about Willow's dad, but 'change of lifestyle' is a pretty good post-heart-attack result, considering some of the alternatives. That line about Willow feeling young felt very true-to-life.

On the up side, Sheila teasing Willow was cute, as was Tara teasing Willow, Willow teasing Tara... okay, I'm easy when it comes to affectionate teasing :blush

I'm curious now just how Ariel came to be. I mean, apart from the Powers That Be infusing a human child with fifteen kittens' worth of cuteness... Tara was gay beforehand (and afterhand), you mentioned it wasn't planned, which rules out IVF, cause it's pretty difficult to do that by accident, especially filling out the forms, I'd imagine... hmm :hmm Wait and see, I guess.

Great updates - two for the price of one! :bow

Great update. I was a little disappointed that Ariel and Willow didn't get to meet. But I know they will get to soon. I liked both scenes with their mothers. I can't wait for the next update.

What a fantastic Easter treat for us kittens! Two updates. Doesn't matter about no smoochies, doesn't matter that they're short, they're grrrrreat (and that was me channeling the Frosties' Tiger -- you have that?) and their obvious attraction to each other shines through.

Love the interactions with both Moms. It always gives me warm happy feelings when I come across understanding and supportive parents, I'm so glad neither ladies have to contend with the complication of unaccepting parents.

So Willow has a sister, that's interesting. Sheila obviously loves and adores her younger daughter,
Quote:
I would watch you on a show about foot fungus
Hope Ira recovers soon, I get the feeling he is as supportive as his wife and will tease his daughter a great deal about this new girl in her life. I know it is coming eventually, and I love the journey of discovery, cos it's all about getting there, but there are moments that I absolutely can't wait for the winner to be announced (whoever it may be) so the Lovebirds (™ me) can finally be together and we get more serious smoochies.

A clue that both W and T might have done rather okay in the show. Apart from the reporters trying to get a hold of Tara, there's
Quote:
Willow on Willow: I wouldn’t have done very well on a straight-up survival skills show.

Riley on Tara:she has tremendous smarts and she knows everything there is to know about jungle survival
That's what Survivor is all about. Thank you!

cperrins78 – Yes, I knew people would be disappointed with the lack of W/T and the lack of W/A time in this update. Actually I guess this is three updates in row with a lack of W/T. I share your pain. I swear I do. I actually had this update lined up with a different Island update but then I had to shft some things around and ended up with this combination. I swear things will be changing for the better soon. Glad you liked the moms.

willlovestara – Glad you’re happy to see it. Yes, Tara’s mom is pretty cool. You’ll find out more about the Tara/Kent relationship soon. I promise that he is what can only be referred to as a mench. In other words, a truly good person and cool guy.

3. Flaming O

Artemis – Eek here on the thought of Riley in a cheerleader outfit. Honestly, I think this is a guy who peaked with his appearance in Pleasantville. I mean he’s supposed to look like a letterman. But I digress…

Yes, Willow and Ariel will be meeting in a coming update. Otherwise known as soon. Yes, Willow’s father will be just fine and he’s already working on teasing his youngest daughter. Glad you like some teasing.

Ariel will be explained in an upcoming update. No PTB work here. Really not as much of a mystery as it seems. I will say that Willow is as curious about it as any kittens.

hidden Watson – I’m glad you like the updates in spite of their shortness. I think they go here so that’s what I guess matters. The next update will be a regular Survivor episode update so will move us even further along.

Glad you like the moms. I think that supportive moms are the best. Honestly, I think that if these two women had unaccepting parents, they would probably just blow them off entirely. Understand, I’m not saying that’s a good thing. But I think that sometimes it’s the best course of action for some people.

Yes, Sheila loves and adores Willow and the redhead has a sibling (one way we can tell this is an AU huh?) You’re darn tootin about Ira’s teasing of his little girl. Lol about the conflict between loving the journey and wanting to find out the ending. I could say the same exact thing about KAR. More importantly, how about that completed (you said) posting for Common Areas?

Unfortunately there are more clues in the aftershow parts that I’d like. Some of them I didn’t realize without readers pointing them. Nonetheless, I’m saying nothing to confirm nor deny the ending of the contest. Thanks for your reading and comments.

I'm glad to see that Willow has a good relationship with her parents in this fic. It's always fun to see warm and loving Rosenbergs. And Willow has a sister... this could be interesting.

I got bitten by a drunk lesbian! Does that mean I'll turn into one?

Tara is certainly becoming a valued member of her team. Riley's observations were interesting. I imagine before the experience he would have trusted absolutely in brute strength to get him through survival, now that he has witnessed Tara's talents he seems to have changed his opinion.

Replies before update (or is it Ladies before Gentlemen? Pearls before Swine???)

Tempest Duer – We’ll be seeing more of Willow’s relationship with her folks and her sister before it’s over. Yes, I agree that I like the good relationship parts.

mollyig – I’ll think you’ll see more about her being highly valued coming up. And I think Riley has definitely changed his thoughts.

Enjoy…

Survivor – Ash Island

MFashnek Camp – Day 12
The MFashnek team sits around the camp fire drinking coffee or water and breakfasting on bananas. As usual, they all pass around the bug paste and smear it on their arms, legs, and faces. Tara reaches for another cup and rubs the ointment onto her nose and ears which we can see are still peeling from an earlier sunburn. “I th-think this works pretty well,” she says and offers it to the group. Faith reaches out first to rub the newest ointment on her sunburns.

“What’s in it?” Joyce asks in what she probably thinks is a subtle way.

Tara thinks about it for a moment before answering, “I can show you if we have time.”

Confessional Caption – Joyce – Art Gallery Owner
“She’s very very smart that Tara,” Joyce tells the camera directly as she sits against a tree trunk. “I mean she doesn’t come out and say that she wants to be the only one who knows how to make her magical potions but she also doesn’t jump up to show me the tree. I also notice she only makes one day worth at a time.”

Robin and Faith are breaking up wood for fire while Richard carries the piles back to the fire. Meanwhile Tara, Kendra, and Joyce are attempting to catch fish and having little luck. We see four small fish on the rocks next to them. The team appears to work well together although we see snippets of conversation between different groups. After while the groups switch so that Richard and Faith fish, Robin and Tara go to gather berries, and Joyce and Kendra work on gathering the fire wood.

Confessional Caption – Kendra – Interpreter
“This team has its high and low spots,” she makes a face, “but one thing I’ll say about us: we split the work up. Robin and Tara went to gather berries which is a good combination. She knows what to get and he needs a break from busting his ass.”

The shot switches to show Faith who has hooked a rather large fish, at least a few pounds and is struggling to get it out of the water. Richard helps her and the two of them celebrate the catch by dancing a surprising little jig. “Well done, Faith,” Richard tells the dark-haired girl. He pats her on the shoulder.

Confessional Caption – Richard – Small Town Mayor
“Faith is dangerous, that’s for sure. But the one I’m getting worried about is Tara. She’s much smarter than the other two and no one will want to get rid of her.”

“Where did everyone else go?” Richard asks casually.

“I’m sure everyone is doing their part,” Faith answers suspiciously as she casts her hook again.

“Yes,” Richard agrees, “everyone is doing their part. Although I’m not sure that gathering berries and making some paste is a real heavy work load.”

“What are you saying?” Faith turns on the mayor.

“Oh nothing,” Richard answers, “I guess it’s just that everyone has a specialty around here but I’m not sure everyone is contributing equally to the tribe.”

“Tara?” Faith questions, “You’re questioning Tara’s value to this tribe?” She is obviously angry at Richard’s question as she stalks away from the man: “Why don’t you see how you do without Tara if you think she’s so expendable. The rest of us want her around.”

Confessional Caption – Faith – Personal Trainer
“Ok, Richard is smarter than that. He wants me to turn on Tara but that was really not the right approach. No one on this team would reasonably doubt Tara’s usefulness. I mean, that’s her danger: that everyone will want her around. That and that she’s so damn nice.”

Akathla Camp – Day 12
The mood around the fire is still tense as the Akathla team drinks water and eats some plantains. “I miss that pig,” Mac jokes.

“Ah come on,” Buffy jokes, “Wesley was a bore but not a boar. And he might have eventually helped us in some challenges.”

Everyone laughs. Later we see shots of the small team attempting to catch fish, gathering fire wood, and eating plantains.

Confessional Caption – Mac – Retired Army
“I’ll tell you what. It’s hard out here. We’re all hungry and I mean really hungry. We never win the food rewards so we’re eating the little bit of rice and some fruit we find. The pig was good but it didn’t last that long. These kids are looking thin! And the damn bugs! I haven’t seen bugs like this since the jungle. This Willow girl has welts on her arms and legs from the bites and from scratching them.”

Buffy and Willow are breaking up firewood and carrying it back. “It’s hard to know who we can trust now,” Buffy says.

“I know,” Willow agrees, “I thought that Xander was with us but he left to save his butt.”

“But our alliance is strong?” Buffy asks for assurance. Willow nods her head and shakes the blonde’s hand.

Akathla Camp – Day 13
“We’ve got tree mail,” Oz and Xander call as they lay the folded dinner napkin on a log.

“A challenge for you,
A challenge for me,
You might be sitting under a tree,
A feast you’ll have
If you are smart
But everyone can have a part.”

“Great,” Xander jokes, “Will gets to eat today.”

“We all will eat,” Mac attempts to reassure the entire group.

MFashnek – Day 13
The MFashnek team has also opened tree mail and all seem to feel confident that they will do well in the challenge. “Alright,” Robin says, “food all around this team.”

“Some people may have more to eat than others,” Faith jokes.

“Which group do you think you’ll fall into?” Richard jokes a little too seriously, earning a look from the three younger girls.

Reward Challenge
Akathla is already on their mat when MFashnek enters, giving the earlier team a chance to see that Riley is no longer in the game. We can see some of the Akathla players nodding their heads at the change as they realize what the athlete’s injury cost his team.

“Welcome,” Jeff calls as he sees the two teams. “How is everyone?”

“We’re doing well, J,” Faith answers for the MFashnek team, “but we could use more food.”

“How about you, Akathla?” Jeff asks.

“Same here,” Willow answers, “food would be a good.”

“Well, then some of you will like today’s challenge,” he states. He points around the field so that the competitors can see four tables set up around the field. Three of the tables are small round tables with white tablecloths. On each table are two silver domes--the type that cover food in restaurants. The fourth table is larger and has assorted domes over it. “Today you are playing for,” he lifts the first set of domes to display two large plates of grilled Salmon. The other domes hold two steaks and two plates of chicken respectively. The larger table contains various items including salads, baked potatoes, French fries, and deserts.

“Oh god,” the competitors are screaming as he lifts each dome.

Walking back in front of them Jeff points the other direction to show a series of tree trunks, crates, and logs set up. On each of these are placed various silver domes. He holds up two carved icons about the size of his hand. “Pairs of icons like these are placed under those domes,” he says. “They represent the food items. In other words, there are four shaped like salmon although only two match each other. There are two matching icons for each food item.” The person who matches the icons can eat that item. The competitors continue cheering at the promise of getting hot food.

“Ok,” Jeff announces, “we’ve drawn for guessing position. Richard you go first.”

Richard steps up and quickly lifts two domes revealing the coke icon and the blue steak icon, holding both up for the group before replacing the domes. Mac is next and reveals the red chicken icon and the blue beer carving. Faith lifts her first dome revealing the other red chicken icon and cheers as she runs over to reveal the other, becoming the first person to guarantee herself a good meal. Tara steps up next and chooses two unrevealed domes, surprising everyone as she turns over first one and then the other grilled vegetable icons. Next Buffy reveals the red fish icon and the first potato icon. Joyce is similarly unlucky as she reveals the red beer stein and the blue salad plate.

Willow reveals the coke icon before revealing the second steak blue steak plate. Oz appears to seriously consider the options before revealing the two blue steak plates and jumping up and down with his bounty, showing uncharacteristic emotion. We quickly see Xander, Robin, and Kendra choosing again, each earning nothing for their trouble. Richard is able to pick up the second chicken plate while Mac gets the baked potato. Faith reveals the second red fish but can’t remember the match position, selecting a wine glass instead. Tara easily matches the two revealed fish carvings and looks close to crying as she holds the carvings close to her chest before returning to place them with her previously won vegetables.

As most items have been revealed, they are starting to go fast. Joyce picks up the French fries while Buffy apparently forgets the location of the second steak icon and instead reveals a fish icon. Willow looks a long time at the “playing board,” obviously deciding whether to take the fish or steak match. Finally she smiles, glances at Tara, and easily matches the fish icons. Playing immediately after her, Oz matches the steak to earn himself two steak dinners.

The rest of the game continues with all food eventually being distributed. Xander earns a beer as does Robin; Kendra finally gets in the game with the second salad plate as well as the coke; Willow earns the wine glass and Mac gets the last beer.

The players all collect their meals, with Oz trading his second steak to Mac and Kendra to share for their potato and salad. Those who have won the main dishes go to their tables to eat the meals. Faith and Richard can be seen enjoying their chicken but looking suspiciously at each other. “This will make you strong, Dick,” Faith tells the older man.

“You know, Faith,” Richard tells her, “some young people have no respect for their elders.”

“I’ve noticed that,” she says back testily.

Oz, Mac, and Kendra appear to share their food nicely. Those who didn’t have a main dish sit around the others on the ground, enjoying their rewards.

“Do you want to share these?” Willow asks Tara, indicating her wine and Tara’s vegetables.

Tara nods enthusiastically as she takes another bite of the fish. “You c-could have had the steak,” she says with some question in her voice.

“I thought the company over here would be better,” the redhead flirts.

Confessional Caption – Tara – Medical Receptionish/Artish
“I’m not sure what to think of Willow. She s-seems nice and she’s certainly determined but she’s playing a game just like me. Everyone wants to win the money. “

“This is the best fish I’ve ever had,” Willow says. Tara nods but doesn’t say anything. We see all the competitors eating their food with gusto.

Confessional Caption – Willow – Software Startup Owner
“I’m so stuffed, I swear I am going to be sick. Maybe if the bugs can leave me alone, I could take a nap.” She looks around as if truly confessing her thoughts to the camera. “I’m not sure what’s going on with me and Tara. I think she’s pretty special but I know she’s playing a game too. I mean maybe I win the money and maybe I get the girl and maybe both happen. Who knows? On the other hand, maybe CBS edits this entire bit out because it’s not exactly a popular topic at the moment.”

Akathla Camp
“Well we did pretty well today,” Mac says appreciatively. Willow jokingly groans at him to show her agreement. Even though some of the Akathlas had less to eat than others, all still consider it a pretty good day.

MFashnek Camp
Faith, Kendra, and Tara stand at the water’s edge. “Richard is getting worse,” Faith comments.

“Let’s win our challenge tomorrow,” Kendra says, “but if not, we need to get rid of him before he kills us off.”

Meanwhile we see Joyce and Richard talking at the fire. “Faith is the dangerous element in this game,” he says.

“Robin,” Joyce says, “don’t you agree.”

“I want to win the challenges,” Robin says angrily as he stands up and stomps from the fire.

Confessional Caption – Robin – High School Principal
“Being on this island is very much like being in high school. It’s all ‘he said this’ and ‘she said this’ and ‘I don’t know if she likes me…’ Very adolescent. And hard to decide who to side with.”

We see Tara still standing at water’s edge looking into the sunset as Joyce approaches. Hearing the older woman’s approach the blonde states, “I miss my d-daughter more than I thought I could.”

“Children are hard,” Joyce agrees, “I miss mine and worry every day and every night. I mean I just have so many questions: are they healthy? Are they happy? Do they have enough to eat?” Tara nods silently. “Tara,” the older woman says with some measure of sincerity, “you might not want to align yourself with Faith much longer.”

“What are you s-saying?” Tara asks. “Is Robin with the two of you?”

“I’m just saying you might be better off with us than where you are now,” Joyce warns before walking away.

Confessional Caption – Joyce – Art Gallery Owner
“I don’t want to use Tara but it’s a game and we’re all playing to win. The other two won’t turn on each other and we need her for the numbers. “

A night-vision camera shows Tara, Faith, and Kendra lying in the shelter. Tara whispers to the other two Joyce’s warning.

Confessional Caption – Robin – High School Principal
“I try to stay above it but strange things are afoot here. I just want to play my own game but I may have to decide tomorrow where I go.”

MFashnek Camp – Day 14
The team sits around the campfire drinking coffee and water as Tara cuts up the plantains. “These portions are e-extra small since we a-all ate yesterday,” she explains as she passes the “plate” around.

“Thank you, Tara,” Richard says as he makes eye contact with the blonde. He looks like something secret is passing between them. Tara looks at him for a minute before shaking her head and standing up to walk to the water. We see a look pass between Faith and Kendra as well as another between Joyce and Richard.

Confessional Caption – Faith – Personal Trainer
“I don’t know what Dicks’s up to. He’s acting like he and Tara are all close but I’m having a hard time believing it. I think she’s loyal to me. Of course if I’m wrong, I’m out of the game. Either way, given the choice, I prefer to believe her.”

Kendra and Tara talk on the beach as Tara again reassures the other girl of her loyalty to their alliance. “What is Richard doing?” Kendra asks.

“He wants to make you and Faith think I’m crossing over so you’ll cut me loose. Then o-once you do, he has the numbers,” Tara explained sincerely.

Again Kendra adopts her Jamacian accent: “Ya mon”

Akathla Camp – Day 14
Confessional Caption – Willow – Software Startup Owner
Willow stands at the edge of the surf, scratching her arms which we can see are covered with bug bites. “It’s hard not to wake up and wonder if this is the day that I go home,” Willow says. “I mean if it’s Mac, Xander, and Oz, then they’ll send me home because at least Buffy is strong. How many puzzle challenges could there be?”

“We’ve got tree mail,” Xander and Mac called as they waved the small lifeguard buoy in their hand. Tied to the buoy are ropes, locks, and carbineer clips. Tags hang from them saying, “untie me” and “faster” and “it’s a race.”

Confessional Caption – Oz
“Well it looks like a swimming and untying challenge. Woo hoo for me. I can only hope that we win it or that everyone wants to keep me around and get rid of the strength for the individual challenges. “

Immunity Challenge
We see the teams enter and stand on their mats and Jeff reclaims the immunity idol from the Akathla team. “Well,” he starts, “everyone ate well yesterday. Some people better than others.” Today immunity is at stake. He holds up the idol.

He points out into the water toward a floating raft and begins explaining the challenge: “Each team has a floating raft in the water as well as five buoys tied under the flags.” He indicates a line of five flags floating in a line between the shore and the raft. “The buoy may be fastened with knots, a clip like this, or a lock. The key for the lock is tied on a string to the same base.” Everyone listens to his description. “Teams will swim from here to the raft. Once everyone on the team has reached the raft and is on it, one player will swim to a buoy and release it so that it floats on the top of the water. That player will then return to the raft and another player will do the same on another buoy. You can release the buoys in any order but all must be floating and all players must have returned to the raft to win the challenge.”

Richard again sits out the challenge and the other players stand on the beach ready to run and swim. “Survivors ready. Go!” Jeff shouts and everyone runs for the water. Faith, Robin, and Buffy reach the water nearly simultaneously and begin swimming. Everyone else enters the water with intense splashing until all players are swimming. The three players who reached the water quickly now lead the group, swimming powerfully toward their rafts, joined now by the strong swimming style of Kendra. Tara, Willow, Joyce, Xander, and Mac follow steadily behind. Oz trails far behind this group as he dog-paddles toward the raft.

Robin reaches the MFashnek raft moments before Faith and hoists himself onto the platform, extending his hand toward her. As Faith lies on the raft for a moment, catching her breath, he pulls Kendra onto the surface. Meanwhile, Buffy has reached her raft, having a slightly harder time pulling herself up before cheering for her teammates. Joyce and Tara reach their raft and are easily pulled up by Robin, Kendra, and Faith while Buffy pulls Xander up and then rests for a moment as the construction worker helps Mac and Willow onto the floating structure.

The MFashnek team looks to each other for a moment before Faith dives from the raft and begins swimming, passing the first flags. Meanwhile, Oz struggles to stay afloat as he paddles toward the raft. Apparently following some agreed upon method, Faith dives when she reaches the third flag and swims down to the buoy. The camera angle shifts to follow her as she finds a carbineer clip and easily unclips it, releasing the buoy. She swims to the surface and takes a moment to recollect herself before turning and swimming toward the raft.

As Faith swims toward the raft, Oz finally reaches the Akathla raft and is pulled up by Mac and Xander as Willow dives into the water. Like Faith, she swims to the third buoy. Before she can reach it, Kendra enters the water for MFashnek and swims strongly for the last buoy. Willow dives underwater and finds her buoy secured by a rope knot. She has to dive three times to finally untie the knot and return to the surface. By the time she treads water to catch her breath and her sense of direction, Kendra has found the last buoy tied to the ocean floor. While it takes her three dives to release the buoy, her swimming power allows her to pass the third buoy on her return as Willow is pulled onto the raft.

Buffy dives in next, obviously swimming toward the last buoy and Joyce dives in, quickly reaching the closest buoy. Underwater camera work shows Joyce struggling to use the key to release the lock holding this buoy as Buffy easily unclips the farthest Akathla buoy. Joyce turns to swim back to the raft and Tara dives in while Buffy is still returning. By the time Xander dives in and races toward the next farthest buoy, Tara is diving to release the second closest MFashnek buoy. We see her reach the buoy, finding a lock, clip, and rope tying the buoy. As her team shouts encouragement, she dives five times to release all the restraints. Treading water as the buoy floats nearby, she gulps air and makes an obvious attempt to reorient herself. Beginning to swim crookedly toward the raft, she is passed by Xander who has released his buoy. Although she struggles, she reaches the raft and is pulled up by Kendra and Faith. Robin dives in to race after Mac as both men swim to the remaining buoys. Tara meanwhile, lies on the raft attempting to recover for a few seconds before standing to join her team in cheering for Robin.

By the time Robin reaches his buoy, Mac is returning. Robin dives only once to release his buoy before turning around. Even though Oz leaves the raft immediately upon Mac’s return, he is only paddling toward the nearest buoy as Robin reaches the MFashnek raft and is pulled up by the other four women. After resting for a few minutes, both teams swim leisurely toward the shore and the MFashnek team allows Robin to reach out and take the offered idol from Jeff.

Akathla Team
Willow and Buffy walk by the water as they discuss the coming tribal council vote. “Merge is coming soon,” Buffy states.

“Mac will be too strong in the individual immunity challenges,” the two women agree.

We see them talking to Oz also. Later we see Oz and Xander talking and then Mac talking to the three women.

Confessional Caption – Buffy – College Student
“I still have this feeling that my head is on the chopping block. It was stupid of me to swim so strong today if we were going to lose anyway. Now my team is thinking, ‘maybe she’s too strong to go to merge.’”

Mac picks plantains as Buffy approaches him. “You seem like an honest man, Mac,” Buffy says.

“Yeah,” he says uncertainly.

“I just wanted to give you a heads up. It’s you tonight. You’re just too strong once we merge,” she says before walking off.

Oz and Xander are talking as Mac approaches them. “Hey boys,” he greets them.

“Hey, Mac,” Xander says while Oz waves his hand.

“Who are you voting off tonight?” Mac asks directly.

“Buffy,” Oz says, raising his eyebrow to indicate that he doesn’t know why Mac is asking.

“No worries, man,” Xander agrees.

Confessional Caption – Mac – Retired Army
“Well I don’t know who to trust out here. Oz says he’s voting off Buffy but Buffy says he’s voting off me. I need to make a decision and make it fast.”

Tribal Council
The Akathla team enters and places their torches in their spots. “Welcome to tribal council,” Jeff says as everyone takes their seats. “How are things back at camp?”

Everyone shrugs. “Oz,” Jeff directs, “do you feel like you let your team down today?”

“Completely,” Oz answers, “I knew I couldn’t keep up on the swimming challenges but I hoped that I wouldn’t hurt us this much.”

“Do you feel like your head is on the block?” Jeff asks.

“It probably should be,” Oz answers, “on the other hand, I think we’re all aware that the game changes after merge.” Mac grimaces a little at Oz’s statement.

“Mac,” Jeff says, “you don’t look like that sits very well with you.”

“Well, Jeff,” the army-man retorts, “I think it all depends on what you think this team’s focus needs to be.”

“Let’s go vote,” Jeff announces.

Mac votes first and we see him write down Oz’s name. “I think you’re a good man, son,” he growls, “but if it’s you or me, I’d prefer it’s you.”

Oz votes next and writes down Mac’s name. Xander, Willow, and Buffy vote next. Jeff carries the bucket back and opens it. “Let’s count the votes,” he says cheerily before reading “Oz.” The team watches as he opens the second vote: “Buffy.” The third appears to confuse the team as he reads Mac’s name. “One vote each for Mac, Buffy, and Oz,” Jeff recaps.

“Fourth vote: Oz,” Jeff reads before taking a breath. Jeff opens the ballot and announces: “And the sixth person voted off Survivor – Ash Island is Oz.” Oz has his torch snuffed off and walks impassively off the tribal council area. The others gather their torches and leave the area.

Vote recap
We see everyone hold up their votes. Buffy, Willow, and Mac voted for Oz. Oz voted for Mac and Xander, somewhat inexplicably voted for Buffy.

Next week on Survivor – Ash Island
Voice-over – “Tempers fly between former alliance members.”
Shot of Buffy and Xander arguing. “I had to do it,” Xander pleads.

“No,” Buffy argues, “you could have voted with us.”

“And you went to Mac behind my back,” the construction worker accuses.

Voice-over – “And a challenge could change the entire game.”
Shot of everyone standing on their mats on the beach with shocked looks on their faces. Sounds of people gasping in shock can be heard.

Next week on Survivor – Ash Island

:bigwave Yay! Another update! I like Oz so I was sorry to see him go, I'd have much prefered to say adios to Xander! :tara is playing hard to get but we already know :willow gets the girl! I hope either Richard or Xander goes next, not Joyce even though she seems a little two faced, I think its because of peer-pressure from Richard, plus I like her!! Thanks for the update, I'm looking forward to see what happens next. :) Hannah.

Oh dear Xander... :gnome He got done there. The way I see it, Oz - hoping rumours of Mac's immanent departure weren't exaggerated - thought it'd be useful to weaken Xander's standing with the others for future votes. But he got done himself - I'm guessing Buffy planted the idea of the Mac-ousting in order to take the heat of herself (and by extension her alliance with Willow) by forcing Mac to vote for the obvious weak link, Oz, rather than risking being outnumbered by trying to vote off someone with allies.

Meanwhile Joyce seems to be more firmly allied to Richard than I'd noticed before. I was worried when she approached Tara, being that Tara's a trusting soul - but I forgot that she's no fool, and she knows there's a game on. I guess Tara sees more benefit in a solid long-term alliance with Faith and Kendra, rather than dallying with an alliance with Richard whom she may not be able to trust not to try to manipulate her. True, eventually - if all goes well for them - Faith, Kendra and Tara will be up against each other, but the way I see it, better to go for a strong chance of a final-three position than risk things too early, when there's still others who can be voted off before an alliance has to start sacrificing its own.

Oh, what a tangled web CBS weaves. Speaking of them, cute jab from Willow at their editing policies :D

The prospect of the teams merging is an interesting one. Mac looks like he'd be vulnerable when that happens. Buffy and Willow are solid, and they're regarding Mac as a threat, not an asset. Xander is out on his own by the looks of things, so not much use to anyone. And from the other side, Faith and Kendra seem more likely to see Mac as a threat rather than a potential ally - they'd stick with Robin instead. He seems to be leaning away from Richard's games.

Tara looks like she'll be in a strong position for the merge - she's got her monopoly on magic potions, neatly combining benevolence and common sense in handing them out freely, but not making herself disposable in so doing. Given how the bugs have been irritating the Akathlas, Tara could win herself some friends pretty quickly. Of course Willow will appreciate some bug-be-gone potion, but I think she'd be glad to see Tara in any case :wink

Great episode :bow

Oh the politics! The scheming, the truths and half-truths that come out of those mouths. It's just like, no, it's worse than at work. At least you can go home after work.

The early MFashnek conversations about Tara's position - her potions, her usefulness and niceness sent terrible shivers up and down my spine. I was majorly concerned for her at that point, as the harsh reality that everyone is playing the game and no one can be 100% trusted. In a way, we the readers are biased by our familiarity with these characters, it took me a second to realize that, yes, even gentle Joyce is in the game - she will not only angle for herself, I'm sure she will also angle for Buffy, whether or not their secret comes out. Her telling Tara not to ally with Faith left a bad taste.

Interesting, and much needed for the hungry survivors, RC. Matching cards is not easy in normal circumstances, much less when you've been on a deserted island, it's hot, you're hungry and there's an enormous amount of pressure. Willow pretty much laid her cards on the table when she deliberately picked the fish. I really want to see the W/T dynamics when the merge happens, it's early stage of their relationship, if we can call it that at that point in time. With all the game stuff going on it'll be difficult to get to an understanding of the mutual attraction without jeopardizing their game. Can't remember who in Ulong said it, but "an alliance of 2 people is a strong alliance." Though that didn't work for Jeff or Kim, Ash Island tribes are a different kettle of fish to Palau's.

What Willow said at confession
Quote:
I mean maybe I win the money and maybe I get the girl and maybe both happen
my question to our playgirl is this: given a choice between the money or the girl, which will you choose? Hobson's choice, or no-brainer?

Like Chris, I love your stab at CBS. To be perfectly honest, I stretched those policies to help me in the Kitten Race, cos they create a target for me to snark at. Glad to know you've decided to give us more smoochies soon, CBS' policies be damned! Soon means soon, right? As in, next update soon, please? pretty please :pray

Not surprised that Oz got ousted, he could arguably be held responsible for Akathla losing the IC, though I was a little surprised that Willow and Buffy voted for him, would have thought they would vote for Mac, and rely on Oz to vote for Mac too. May be that was too risky. Xander is not going to more than one tribal council, unless you have some twist up your sleeve :P

two ash island updates, and a please, in the same week? woo and hoo!

i am thinking willow's dad had a little nonleathal heart attack just to slow things down for us a little bit on the home front. nice to see each of the girls doing a little maternal bonding, though.

i think this game update had my biggest suspension of disbelief yet -buffy makes a joke based on a homonym? sure, the girl likes her punning, but actual wordplay...

well you were right, xander just does not learn. will be interesting to see if buffy and willow keep him around anyway since they consider mac more dangerous, no reason to think xander will be any smarter after they merge. right now the various alliances seem to be male vs. female and old vs. young, not sure i'd want to see mac, dick and joyce get a chance to group up, esp. if robin doesn't side with the girl power.

think you may have a typo when you say mac is talking to three women. (would love to say you were trying to say oz swam like a girl, but then all the girls were better swimmers!)

so i guess sharing the salmon dinner can be considered willow and tara's first date-hopefully it'll be a story they can tell their grandchildren.

can't wait to see what challenge has everyone gasping in shock- sneaky of you to have a format where you're actually supposed to provide a cliffhanger every week. but you have been a most generous updater this week, it would be churlish of me to complain about cliffhangers-can't wait for more! mary

Bow...Wow...Wow...Yippee...Yo...Yippee...Yay...Oz has been voted off the showwwwww!!!:D

Do the dog catcher, dog catcher, a do the dog catcher!!!:dance

How much is that doggy in the window...arrff arrff...the one with the red spikey hair. How much is that doggy in the window...arrff arrff...the one who got booted right off.:applause

Ok enough with the song parodies...even though they're alot of fun.

I just have to tell you that I could not stop laughing when you mentioned the bit about Oz "dog paddling" twards the raft...classic fic moment for you. Bravo sister girl.:bow :applause :lmao

You know, I'm really glad that Faith really trusts her instincts when it comes to playing this game. I feel she relies more on that aspect, than loyalty...persay. Loyalty can only get you so far...but instincts stay with you...my own opinion...you know, gut feeling. She fully understands that everyone on the island is there to win the booty, dinero, loot, a sum of a million dollars. And that anyone can "switch" loyalties in the blink of an eye. Example Xander...what a nitwit!!!:crazy Given the choice between player Richard and player Tara...her instincts at this point tell her to keep going along with the alliance of Kendra, Tara, and herself. They have the numbers right now. I'm sure Robin is not a stupid man...so if he knew that the girls were or are considering to get rid of Richard...better for him. Obviously having another strong male leave gives him a better advantage. But on the flip side...Faith is a strong competitor...and he might side with Joyce and Richard to get rid of her...better chances for him in the immunity challenge.

But seriously...Dick has got to go!!!!:rage

I never understood why is it that when the women have the numbers in their favor...they decide to keep the men and vote off other women. By nature...the majority of men are a little stronger than women physically...nobodies fault...that's just the way it is. So given that...wouldn't the women think that they would have a better chance of winning the loot if they got rid of all the men? HMMMMMM???????:pray :hmm Nothing against men...after all my son is of the male species...(they're so cute when they try to protect their mommies with they're machoness, when they're only seven)...it's just good strategy.

To keep Xander or not to keep Xander...that is the question. If they go to tribal again It might be a tie...again...with Xander and Mac voting one way and Buffy and Willow voting the other. Interesting to see how that turns out.

The one thing I'm worried about is the merge...something tells me that Willow and Tara might be safe for a little while...but not for long... others will see them as a threat because of how cozy they are going to become.:( :wtkiss

But all in all...great, awesome, stupendous, marvelous, super, fantabulous, ok I'll stop...don't want you going and getting a big head and all, update.:laugh

Saluting while dunking a ding dong in my milk,

Irene:pride

Re: Survivor - Ash Island

Postby JustSkipIt » Mon Apr 04, 2005 10:52 am

HI everyone. I know took a while to get some replies out there. Well what a few days. Friday was a big day. We had an “all staff meeting” at work. Nothing particularly bad happened there. At the same time Rachel had a make-up session with a client. She called a new client who no-showed her on the way and found out that the new client wasn’t ready to see her “yet” (which you can generally interpret as at all). So no new client we had been planning on. Ten minutes later she called to say that she was standing on the side of the road with smoke coming out of the car. Asher and she were fine (most absolutely important thing) but the car threw a rod through the 4th cylander. Basically $6000 was the estimate to fix it on a car worth less than that so her car is gone. What a day. We’re going to try to be a one-car family for a while but it was such a shock.

Then we spent the weekend building an awesome playscape for Asher. It went great and no mishaps at all but we are really exhausted from it. Wow!

Help needed and requested – I’m looking for a good name for the merged tribe. It can be a combination of the two existing names. Or based on their theme the name of your favorite Buffy demon. Thanks.

willlovestara – Thanks. Like you, I love Oz but his time was up so off he went. I’m not entirely sure that T’s playing hard to get. I just thinks she’s not wearing her feelings or infatuation on her sleeve like Willow. Willow is just so direct. Believe me, Joyce is playing the game. Thanks.

Artemis – You can attribute Oz’s departure to Buffy (and she’s playing the game surprisingly well). This is something that occasionally happens. When one person knows it’s going to be close they go to another target and say, “let’s surprise this third person.” Both schemers can be “trusted” because they have to do it or be in danger themselves. Interesting theory about Oz but nope, Xander’s just stupid.

Yes, Joyce is allied to Richard pretty strongly partially because she can see how strong the F/T/K alliance is and figures she can’t get in there. And yes, Tara is far from a fool. She knows that Richard would sacrifice her as soon as he could. Glad people like the CBS jabs. Seriously, HW and I have both already gone beyond what CBS would probably allow. TAR reference: Lynn and Alex talk about how gay they are every second (when they aren’t talking about Rob that is) but have they kissed yet?

When the teams merge it’s hard because suddenly the strong players are a bigger threat. But it’s more unpredictable too. Yes, Tara would definitely be popular if she doses Akathla like she does MFashnek.

littlecrazy80 – Thanks. Ha ha. The alliances should be confusing I guess.

hidden Watson – lol. Actually my work is pretty straight-forward although I guess there are political games. I try to stay beneath those.

I think that fearing for Tara’s position is wise. She has little strength but much smarts and usefulness to offer. That’s not always a popular combination. And yes, I think that you are somewhat misled by your image of Joyce. I think that Joyce in this situation would be very cut-throat. I must admit that while my view of Joyce is tempered by later seasons, her reaction in season 2 and the beginning of season 3 infuriates me.

Yes, Willow let everyone know she likes Tara – either that or she’s playing a game and not a very smart one. I tried to base Willow’s confessional somewhat on Robs from All-stars (look how that turned out). Interesting question for Willow.

You’re right about the CBS policies and as I mentioned above, we’re both definitely bending them. For my purposes, it actually serves me somewhat well because the show can leave a lot of questions that are unanswered. Bwah ha ha!

I have to agree that voting out the person who performed badly in one IC is idiotic but this is a team with quite a few schemers and it only takes three to make a decision. Xander is floundering and stupid but the Gods could be with him…

MissKittys Ball O Yarn – Ahhh? You don’t like Oz? I’m glad you liked the very small W/T part.

meretricious – Yeah, I wanted to add to the Ash Island update since the other was short and completing Please was a long term task so I’m glad I got it done. Ok, I must admit that you are mostly right about the reasoning behind Willow’s dad’s HA. Also to show the complexity of the relationship between the two girls: comfort and support. And to give some time for the moms to put in their two cents.

:ROFL About not believing that Buffy could pun on that level. She’s not so stupid here. The alliances appear obvious but can be more complicated too. You’re right about the typo. Thanks. Yes, I’d definitely consider the fish dinner their first date. Especially when you consider that Tara agreed to the veggie for wine share/trade. A Tara who was purely playing the game wouldn’t give up the nutrition of a full share of veggies for any amount of wine. Glad you’re intrigued about the cliffhanger. Hope you like it.

Irene73 – Another Oz hater huh (not me, someone above in the thread)? Ok. Glad you liked the dog paddling part. It was also in the first update but only one person seemed to catch and comment on it.

Faith is 100% instinct girl all the time, wouldn’t you say? And yes, she definitely prefers the Tara alliance to anything with Richard.

My observation is that men are more willing to vote off the stronger players to keep themselves near the top while women vote off those that are worst for the team (initially at least). Then they all make equally bad and stupid decisions.

Thanks so much for your thoughts.

Well, it looks to me like the girls are on top of the pile at the moment - Buffy/Willow and Faith/Kendra/Tara seem stronger and more trusting of themselves than their opponents, who are divided and suspicious of each other. So how about 'Team Jhiera', in honour of all the hot women?

well, personally the queller demon freaked me out more than any other, just something extra-creepy there, maybe cause it was less humanoid than most of them. doesn't really sound like a tribe name, though. F'yarl (sp?) would be a nice nod to giles since he didn't make your competition ( and really i think giles isn't there because he would probably win. anyone that smart who can also choke an "innocent" to death because it needed to be done, oh yeah, ripper would mop up these tribes, for sure) but i digress.

oh, wait, how about ampata? inca mummy girl, now that's a tribal sounding name. i'm thinking way too much about this~mary
