WOOOOHOOOOO! UPDATE!

Fantastic work, as usual. You have me drawn in to the point where I almost want to cry for our two clueless girls!

Quote:
"Xander again?" Tara asked weakly, wondering how someone so far away could be so present.

Siiiiigh...I know all too much how that feels, when someone else's phone takes priority over the here and now. Though I can't really blame Willow, being that she really has no idea how her "texty" conversation is affecting Tara.

I am finding some respite in the fact that at least ONE person (Michelle) seems to be getting any sort of CLUE. Hopefully that will play out nicely soon!

Thanks for the great update, can't wait for more!!

Postby hermitfish » Mon Nov 08, 2004 7:19 pm

Why is it that I am constantly banging my head after nearly every update of this story? Oh, yeah because this story is equal parts frustrating and fantastic. The depth and emotions of the characters are wonderfully presented and a joy to read.

Patiently waiting for the next installment where the events at the party can continue to go up in flames (at least it can be red flames :) ) for our lovely but aggravating gals.

The angst is fine, I'll ride the edge with you anytime. I can't stress enough, the way you are moving us through what seems like insurmountable odds... circling each other unaware... that's exactly what is going to make the pay-off on this so huge. Morgan being a mountain in the path between W/T is what gives me ill feelings toward her... any other situation, and I'd probably hit on her :D . Every time you update.. I'm reminded of why this is so worth the wait :bow .

*sigh* i just cant win...and obviously neither can either of these girls...on the one side weve got tara thinking willows texting with xander cuz shes having a shitty time or whatever...and in the meantime we have willow texting with xander because of morgan...who's lusting after tara....whose lusting after willow....who's also lusting after tara but tara doesnt know this...and the only people who seem to be getting a clue are marissa and michelle...but will they ever say anything?! probably not...because this fic seems to just revel in the anguish and torture that it causes its readers!!! grr on your fic!! im getting to the point where i want the party to be all done and gone so that we can get to the happiness that you promised for our lovely but clueless girls during their 2 weeks home together...because the alka seltzer just aint cutting it with the ulcers there hun...the only cure for my little tummy dillema will be for someone to FINALLY just lock these 2 in a room and be like 'look...tara....you love willow...willow...you love tara...discuss'.

and so now im going to sit here somewhat patiently(which for me is a hard and bad thing...i dont do it well) until such a time when you find it fit to update nicely and make our girls have a clue.

Heather, nice update. And bloody long! I mean gee, if you would just magic me an update that long, I’d be done with my current fic. Instead, I’ve written 3 pages in a week. And you have another almost ready? Wow and wow.

Yes, these two girls are officially insane. Willow is driving herself crazy with all the “Morgan’s perfect” thoughts. And who in the hell thinks it’s socially acceptable to text message while involved in a conversation? I mean, ok, if she was being ignored and sitting in a corner, text message away but while talking to people that’s stupid and rude. Honestly, Morgan is great. She’s warm, beautiful, funny, and genuinely interested in visiting with people (Willow). All the Morgan’s great in bed conversation is so typical but sad for Willow. Like she needed another blow to her confidence or hopefulness. Let’s hope she gets it back.

Also, she’s way too hard on herself about her job/vocation/calling. I mean sure, they’re all artists but she’s brilliant. And honestly (and I don’t say this just because I’m a programmer), being a programmer is about the most creative thing you can possibly do.

Tara:
Quote:
'Love of my life, this is the girl I might date. Girl I might date, love of my life.'
That’s so great! Of course it brings us back to the question of what made Tara think bringing Willow was even remotely a good idea? She brings Willow, attempts to visit with Morgan, and is insanely jealous that Willow is texting Xander. Yes, texting anyone is stupid during a party (I think I mentioned that before) but Tara is way too keyed-up about Xander.

M&M: Gee girls – dirty laundry in public much? I can kind of see why Michelle wanted to go visit with Cass though. I mean here’s a girl who gets her shirt! Everyone else has been so dismissive of her joke. My question:
Quote:

"She's a good girl," Michelle said. "Totally wasting her time with Tara though," the woman continued, Willow quirking her eyebrows as they threaded through the crowd toward the french doors on the back wall.
Wasting her time because M&M can see that Tara loves Willow or something else? How about sharing the clue around?

Wow. Update-y goodness. Happiness ensues.

["Well, half right at least," Michelle said, winking at Morgan. The brunette chuckled and then leaned back into Tara.

What, can't stand up straight? Willow thought, annoyed, as she took in the brunette's not-so-subtle move. The redhead quickly raised her drink and tipped her cup back, finishing her drink and shaking her now empty cup a bit as she dropped it down to her side. Stupid equilibrium challenged--

"So what do you think of the party so far Willow?" Morgan asked, and the redhead looking at her surprised. "Having a good time?" Tara turned her head to take in her roommate, curious about her reply.

I was, Willow thought, feeling the blonde's curious gaze on her. She opened her mouth, looking first at Tara and then back to Morgan. "Yeah, it's..." she searched for a word to complete the sentence. 'Torture'? 'Hell'? "Neat," she said, a slight smile gracing her lips but not her eyes. "What, with the whole, all-one-color thing." She looked over at Tara, hoping her testiness wasn't showing. Be polite... she instructed herself. This is Tara's 'friend', after all...]

OMG. Lol. Poor Willow. Jealous Willow is a ball of fire with lots of witty retorts (in her head anyway).

Xander again! Argh! :gnome

[ "Thanks," Jin said, patting the sticker on her crotch, "but I'll take my chances."

"Me too," Willow said, peeling the sticker off her ass defiantly, a determined look on her face. I'm not, 'straight', Willow thought, not seeing Tara frown off to the side.

"Brave soul," Morgan clucked with a smile, nodding appreciatively at the redhead's moxie.

Not brave enough... Willow thought, casting a quick look at Tara before looking back down at her phone.

The blonde took a quick drink to hide the perplexed look on her face. Why would she take it off? Tara was pulled from her swirling thoughts by Marissa and Michelle's whispered bickering.        ]

Come on, Tara. Please, please piece it together. Or Marissa or Michelle. Anyone?

I think this is all fueling Willow's determination to tell Tara. When she finally does, I'm not sure what to expect. Willow must defend the fair Tara from the evil Morgan... Liked the commend you slipped in there about Morgan not having a chance with Tara. If only she had expanded on why for Willow... sigh

You definitely delivered with this part once again. I am at your mercy until the next update. But wait! Did I read about a possible update tomorrow?? :dance

Heather Heather bo bether banana fana fo feather fe fi mo...leather?(not quite right but you get the idea). Updates on this fic absolutely pull happy songs from my brain!

Count me as the latest in the line of those who've delurked to comment on your story and your talents. I love the slow journey you're taking us on, and how well you express the internal thoughts of your characters without it dragging the pace of the story itself. I think that's one of the hardest things for a fanfic writer to nail, the balance of action and dialogue vs. internal monologue, and it's something you keep doing better and better. This has been an absolute joy to read, and the frequency of your updates makes me giddy!

So the painting in tara's living room, that she loves the most and could never part with-it's called "willow" or "golden gate park" or something, right? right?!

Re: New Fic - Neverland

Postby Artemis » Tue Nov 09, 2004 12:45 am

Hey, look who's back: :fit2

That whole chapter just rung so true, it reminded me of why I don't go to parties :) There's people who are wired up right to enjoy parties, then there's the poor angst-ridden few who spend the whole time trying to work out what the heck's going on, and end up having more one-on-one time with their inferiority issues than other people :paranoid

So, Morgan, what can we say about Morgan - seeing as this is the first time we've really seen her 'in action', rather than just brief snippets of her in previous chapters. Well, she's not all bad - I mean, Tara wouldn't even consider her if she was, regardless of whether she was thinking 'Yay Morgan' or 'Yay I'm Not Really Obsessed With A Straight Girl, Really'. I do have to deduct points for 'Good Willow Hunting' - like Willow thought, yep, not the first time she's heard that. Morgan seems quite nice, but perhaps a touch self-assured. Then again, we haven't seen inside the Thoughts of Morgan - maybe she's all in a twist trying to impress Tara with her wit and banter, and thus saying damnfool things like Good Willow Hunting before she has a chance to realise it's silly. Sure she looks all confident and relaxed, but really - you can't tell me she hasn't got some butterflies fluttering around in her stomach, when she's trying to chat up Tara (and no doubt getting severely mixed signals in return).

As for 'M&M' (thanks Debra, that's cute :lmao ), yeah, dirty laundry a bit... I can't really get a handle on them (being a relationship doofus) - are they always like this? Maybe they're just naturally fractious and forgiving later on. Michelle's comments to Willow near the end of the chapter did strike me very much as though she's got herself a clue about the real state of things between Willow and Tara (and Morgan) and is trying to subtly help out. It's possible, after all - Willow and Tara are too twisted around by their mutual anxiety to read each other properly (witness things like Willow misinterpreting Tara's smile as she returned, thinking it was to do with Morgan, not the Return of Willow), but an outside observer like Michelle might have spotted these things. And Goddess knows, Willow and Tara need some help :pray

Willow texting at a party... yeah, bad form (says me, who hides in the kitchen usually). But she seemed to really need to touch base with Xander just then, just to have something solid that she knew she could count on, and not have to worry about. M&M she doesn't know very well, Tara she's chronically anxious about, Morgan isn't any help - but Xander is something I think Willow can rely on completely, no angst, no uncertainty. They're level with each other, so in a situation like this - even with Xander being stupid :) - he can still be Willow's rock. And of course Tara misinterpreted it as Willow not having fun (which she wasn't, but not because she didn't want to be with Tara), and then, the worst possible moment she could have been reminded of Xander...

It's turning into one of those big cosmic ironies, this Xander misunderstanding... :) If only Willow had caught Tara's comment, she might have gotten a clue about how Tara sees him, and put 1.849 and 2.151 together (well, it's not quite as simple as '2 and 2'). But with all this uncertainty floating around, I guess it's just not possible to theorise - with a clear head - that much, to guess at how Tara might see her relationship with Xander, thinking she's straight. Same goes for Tara, of course: she can wonder to herself whether, perhaps, Willow might be attracted to her, but then she doesn't follow through on that thought to realise that Willow is threatened by Morgan's obvious interest.

:sigh What they really need is a long, long conversation, with no interruptions, to sort all this out. Possible with the aid of a flow chart of some kind.

Willow taking her label off was a cute bit of symbolism, and it got Tara thinking - maybe some good might come of that? If she'd just realise that Willow is reacting to Morgan as a competitor, so much would be clear to her... oh well, c'est la vie in Neverland, huh?

Maybe Willow could go get herself a new label, "Hello, my name is: Tara-Smitten", or something like that :)

A bit of bad timing, that the moment Morgan wandered off to infest some other part of the party (sorry, but I can't not take cheap shots at someone messing up Willow and Tara), Willow got drawn away to chaperone Michelle, instead of staying with Tara and clearing up some confusion. Not knowingly of course, cause that never happens :) but if they spend time together, and Willow doesn't react the way Pessimistic Tara is expecting, that would help - and vice versa, of course.

Oh, and lastly, before I forget :cry Poor Willow, misreading Tara's pride at her smarts - or rather, not reading it at all, just simmering in her own little pool of inferiority complex. If only Tara would mention 'smart is sexy' in a tone of voice that doesn't leave much to the imagination, that'd solve Willow's problems in a heartbeat :) Who cares whether the rest of the world sees her as a nerd, if it works for Tara?

Looking forward (in a fearful-yet-hopeful kind of way) to the rest of The Party.

Chris Cook

Through the Looking-glass

A Willow and Tara for every world.

Hey Lady. Glad to see you in the saddle again. Ouch, indeed. That update hurt like hell, but for all your difficulty in turning it out, it was really very well crafted. It was strange to be reminded now and then that there was loud music going on; I was completely lost in Willow's mind. Noisy enough in there. Tara was almost an afterthought to me in this update. My focus was completely on Willow. I like Michelle though. Oh, yeah! Michelle is my hero!!:lol I found Willow's removal of her label interesting. She's gone from big fat liar to......? Nerd, brain, yes, but now what? And Morgan.... could we just send Morgan my way? I'm free these days.:flirt The pendulum has begun its swing, huh. Willow is on the down side, but is Tara coming back up? I can't tell. She's proud of Willow, she senses something is going on, but then Xander gets tossed into the mix again. Poor guy. You know, I've never been a Xander fan, but he's just being brutalized for basically being a good friend to Willow. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost.:eyebrow But Tara... I dunno. I'm wondering if her art (or lack thereof) won't tell the tale a little better. Despite the gushing jugular of this update, I find a remarkable amount of hope here as well. There's a lot that can still happen and even more they could talk about. Thanks again for sharing this addictive story!

Oh my, what a trip! Willow being in the "lion's den" without knowing it first, argh. I really felt sorry for her the whole time. Thumbs up for her being so brave. These situations just suck and especially if you can't scream "nooo" and just run away.

Been there, done that. sigh. No wonder she had to send messages with Xander. Understandable.

I’m happy to see that label out of the picture but I don’t think that Tara noticed the real meaning of what happened. Morgan, Xander… Xander, Morgan… that’s insane. I hope Tara and Xander will have a little conversation before the end; he’s just trying to help.

Now I can’t imagine how are you going to finish the party, it’s getting really complicated and maybe it’ll gonna hurt (again!) but I’ll wait for the next update keeping my fingers crossed.

Why? Why? Why? :fit2 Xander again? I was hoping against hope that she wouldn't do that and she did. I know she was really thrown by Morgan and she did't have anyone else to talk to but why in front of everyone. Maybe subconciously she was showing how little she was interested in what Morgan was saying.:miff

I did like how Willow kept coming back with "girlfriend?" when Morgan was talking about her place. I don't think Willow can take much more. I also loved that Willow took the sticker off. Yay! That caught Tara's attention. No ignoring Willow now.:)

Yup, serious bummer about the election...

"Minor to medium angst?" I think not, more like heavy angst. :D Well done! I found myself becoming more and more anxious as I read each line. I think perhaps you should change the title to this fic to "NeverTogether". Hee-Hee.

As much as I would like to, it's tough to dislike Morgan. I just wish she'd find another attraction. The tension between the three of them was so thick, not they any of them would notice. :D And Willow makes a bold move and takes her tag off! However, I believe she has about been pushed to her limit. Seeing Tara and Morgan together has to be killing her.

Is is just my imagination or is Michelle cluing in on something???

Update

Postby Idgie » Tue Nov 09, 2004 12:58 pm

This is just painful to read. I think it's exacerbated by the fact that we're along for every torturous second. There's no "Two days later..." to give us and the poor emotionally exhausted characters a break.

If Tara could just get rid of the silly notion that Willow LOVE loves Xander, maybe she'd start to accept the idea that Willow LIKE likes her.

I await your next installment on pins and needles. Like Willow, I'm feeling claustrophobic and ready to get out of the party (between Morgan hitting on Tara and M&M fighting, it's no fun for anyone).

Loved the update - also depressed about 11/2 - but I'm telling myself that just because we lost the battle doesn't mean we're losing the war. There's still hope. Somewhere.

Postby sacinema » Tue Nov 09, 2004 3:12 pm

I'm really sorry for the outcoming of the election and totally understand that you were not able to be creative. I know those feelings so well, I had to live with Helmut Kohl for 16 years. 4 long elections with a bad ending. But in the end it had one and you can be sure that in 4 years there will be another one.

But wow, for that update. Totally wow like always. Even when it was really painful at some times. I'm gonna get up in the early morning tomorrow - maybe getting the second update before work. Nice start into the day with a part of your incredible fiction.

Yes Willow texting with Xander was very impolite. Although I can really understand her. She needs some help and advice what to do. But in the end her best friend couldn't be very helpful. And also this had the bad sideeffect reminding Tara of Willows pretended crush. I think in the end after everything is gonna revealed Tara has to totally apologize to Xander - even if he doesn't know how she thinks about him. She's so wrong about him. But in the end this is all Buffys fault. She got Tara on that wrong turn.

Morgan is to good to be true. No, teasing. I really like here apart from the Good Willow Hunting thing. Yes, Willow is a brain. Just accept it. In a way I had the feeling she was a little bit mocking about Willow. But I think I'm just to suspicious.

I totally dislike Marissa, I had a bad feeling about her from the beginning. But she acted like a complete bitch with Michelle - to possessive after my fancy. Michelle might be a little quirky. I got the T-Shirt-Joke. Maybe she would be better with someone else. Morgan for example? What a pity that Willow didn't ask what she ment with that comment about Tara and Morgan. I hope she get's to talk with Willow and discovers her secret fully and thinks of how she could bring them together. But in the end she will be to busy calming bitchy Marissa.

One last thing I have to say: Dear Willow, it is very honorable waiting for your friend Buffy coming back and revealing the fact you're gay firstly to her. But take my advice and forget about that idea. There is someone else who deserves to know at first hand and definitely now. Give her some hope soon. Or otherwise you have to deal with the fact that Tara's gonna start dating Morgan. Would you like that? Definitely not. So go girl go.
