Network's Child (Fixing coding, update when typed :p)

Postby ambersagoddess » Sat Sep 04, 2004 4:23 pm

Hello Kittens!

Chris and I have banded together, that's right!

*Movie announcer voice* From the creators of stories like: When Worlds Collide, The Last Second Chance, Child Of Passion, Afterburn, Queen Of Theives, The Sarah Chronicals, As The Piper Plays, and Lion King Rip Off '04, comes...

ANOTHER FIC WE CAN'T, FOR THE LIFE OF US, THINK OF A NAME FOR!

Based on Faith Erin Hicks' Demonology 101 (http://www.faith.rydia.net): a comic about high school and other forces of evil It's a story of teen angst, high school, witches, government corporations, evil families backed by the Powers that Be, and other things of that nature, plus, in our version, lesbian lovin' :p

We haven't gotten permission from Faith, we've tried, but she (for some strange reason) hasn't answered us back...

But we're not making money so it's all good.

If you're already a fan of the comic, I should inform you that, upon the watermelon calling in sick, and staying with the theme of fruit, the part of the exploding watermelon will be played by THE EXPLODING ORANGE. Just because Chris hates them.

Disclaimer: Still with the not owning of the characters, or the story line, and some of the dialogue too. We pretty much jacked the whole thing

Feedback: OF COURSE, just don't call me a whore... *Glares at Rose.

Distribution: Urm...email first, we might say no, but *shrug* I doubt it.

NOTE: All fics will be continued, blah blah blah.

WAY OF POSTAGE: I have to talk to chris, but for now, it'll be done by chapter, however, when all of chapters in episode one are done, we'll have an issue. Episode one is quite short, I don't know if he wants to do all the episodes in one tread or a new one each episode.

Voting: Yes that's right, you get to vote on a name, we could be compleatly unorigianal and go with Witchcraft 101 or we could have fun. So throw out some ideas, banter with each other, and feel free to become clompleatly obsessed.

CHAPTER ONE: Stay in the Now.

“Good morning, Tara!”

The groggy girl hobbled into the kitchen, her bare feet slapping on the tile floor.

She stepped on one of the legs of her baggy pajama pants, causing her to slip into a not-so-graceful split.

“Ow, ow, ow, ow.”

“Do be careful, Dear.”

The Englishman didn’t turn from the stove where he flipped an omelet-like dish.

Tara clutched the counter beside her guardian and, pulling herself to her feet, she plopped her elbows on the surface and rested her chin in her hands.

She looked at the meal he was preparing.

“Giles, what on earth are you doing?”

“Making breakfast!” The aging man straightened his glasses on his nose.

He waved his hand over his ingredients: eggs, peanut butter, and syrup, an assortment of vegetables, tuna, and cottage cheese.

The blonde wrinkled her nose.

“Well, you need a good breakfast, first day of school and all.”

Tara sighed.

“You’re nervous?”

Tara’s head shot up. “Giles! No, I’m sixteen; I can handle a few classes.”

Giles raised his eyebrows and nodded.

“Okay, I’m terrified.”

“Oh, no worries, Tara. High school is rough and it’s your first day, I’d be frightened too. Just remember, you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”

“You’re being a big help. And besides, I do want to, isn’t it about time I joined the human race?” The blonde rolled her eyes and smiled slightly.

Giles dumped the monster breakfast in front of her.

“Eat up!” He looked quite proud of himself.

Tara pushed the plate away. “Or not.”

“Tara, please, humor me.”

“I’ll eat it.”

“Thank you…”

“But you’ll have to catch me first!”

The blonde dashed out of the room, much to the Englishman’s protests. She grabbed her bag and ran out the door.

Halfway down the driveway from their middle-class remodeled suburban home, she slowed to a walk.

She knew full well Giles wouldn’t give chase.

Tara could imagine his stuffy British voice in her head, what he must’ve be saying right then. ‘Oh posh,’ as he cleans his glasses ‘children these days, I swear, the world is surely doomed.’

“Xander come on, it’s the first day of school, and we’re going to be late!”

A female voice snapped the blonde from her reverie.

“I’m coming; I’m coming, hold your cheese sticks.”

A young man with baggy pants and a tight army green t-shirt, jogged from a nearby porch.

Following him with her eyes, Tara saw his target, a freckle-faced redhead with a slight frame.

They walked ahead of Tara, talking about last year, they were going to be sophomores, Tara concluded, like she.

“What do you figure’s up with her?” The brunette looked slyly over his shoulder, whispering as if Tara wasn’t six feet behind them and able to hear every word.

“She’s probably new; can’t you just smell the fear?”

The two smirked and continued on.

As they approached the school, Tara gagged at the sight of it; the huge building towered over her like a monster waiting to devour her.

She walked past the two, who sat down at a table in the outdoor garden area.

Once in the building, she clutched her schedule in her sweaty palm, tentatively looking for her first class.

*****************

Tara’s two neighbors walked down the halls.

“Xander, have I ever told you how much I appreciate your company?” The redhead leaned up against the boy.

“Often, and usually when we’re in some dire situation and you need my help…”

“That’s what I love about you…”

A large eruption rippled through the school, causing everyone to jump several feet in the air…everyone that is, except for Willow, the redhead, who appeared to be perfectly calm, a cheesy grin plastered on her face.

“WHAT THE-!” Xander jumped, twitchy.

Willow wrapped her arms around him as they walked on.

“…Your remarkable and unshakable loyalty.”

“Oh god, Willow, what did you do?”

“Oh it’s the first day of school; something’s bound to spontaneously combust.”

BRINGGGGG…The bell rings for class. Willow dashes off in the wrong direction.

“We’re late!”

Xander grasps her arm and repositions her down the correct hall, a certain blonde just happening to be in the middle of it. He lets her go and she dashes forward, running into Tara.

“Move it newbie, no time.”

An adult dressed in a purple, sparkly, business suit stopped the duo as they passed Tara on the way down the hall.

“Mr. Harris…Ms. Rosenberg.” Ethan Rayne glared at the two. “Oh how I’ve missed you over the summer… You’re late, again. But as usual, that seems to be the least of your sins. I’m more interested in why, when I entered the building this morning, I found a particularly energetic orange on my desk.”

Xander’s eyes popped out and he hissed at Willow, “The orange thing, that was just a joke, I wasn’t suggesting you do it!”

“Heh, fancy that…” Willow murmured guiltily.

“Indeed, the interesting thing about this orange, Ms. Rosenberg, is that it suddenly…exploded… I would have expected this from Mr. Harris, but the pyrotechnics this orange produced, the bumbling idiot couldn’t have done it. This…prank!... Ms. Rosenberg, has your fingerprints all over it…”

“S-she couldn’t have done it! We were, uhm…” Xander scrambled, grabbing Tara, “we were showing the newbie around.”

The two gave a cheesy grin.

Rayne looked at Tara. “Is this true…?”

“Uh…” Tara looked at Willow, who had a sad look on her face, “yeah.” She smiled goofily.

“What’s your name, child.”

“T-Tara, I just moved here…”

“Tara? You’re name is Tara?”

“Uhm, yes.”

“And you’re sixteen?”

“Y-yes…”

“Get to class, Alexander and Willow will be glad to show you, I’m sure.”

Tara stuck close to the two teens.

“And Willow!”

This made the redhead jump.

“Watch yourself, I’m watching you.”

The trio jogged off, eager to avoid speaking to the principal any longer.

Ethan turned, glancing out a window at the few remaining late arrivals.

“Sixteen…” He spoke to himself out loud. “She’s all grown up.”

He looked over his shoulder to see the trio walking and talking, smiling happily.

He could hear Tara’s comment, “Don’t teachers usually get apples?”

“I hope his is a sign of things to come. Lord knows, we’ve had enough bloodshed.”

Hey Rei and Chris... I have never read this comic, so I am looking forward to seeing what happens. I am sure yours will be better than the original. Have to love the "particularly energetic orange". :lol Since I do not know the background, is Tara and Ethan somehow connected? Or should we not know this yet? I think I need to track this story down.

Hi all, Rei says thanks for reading.

Reds: The comic rocked didn't it? As you've read it, we might as well tell you that ep one is going to stick close to the comic, then we will pretty much do some of our own stuff with eps two and three, then it's back to how Faith wrote it for eps four and five...if we're still into it...(some ego stroking would probably help as well :p ) we might go on past that.

Mikah: You'll have to wait and see :p

Amazonaa: I don't wanna spill too much of the story...let's just say that everything has a purpose. As for the slave thing...i'll leave that to Rei to answer :p

Chapter two: Rule one of the game

“Hello, and welcome to advanced English…”

Tara ignored the teacher and looked around at her new friends, Xander was asleep on his desk and Willow was doing an even mix of note-taking and doodling.

At lunch, the two gave Tara a grand tour.

“Upstairs is the library, not that we spend any time there…” Xander grinned at Tara.

Willow leaned over to whisper in the blonde’s ear, “Xander defines rebellion as graduating high school without cracking a book.”

They sat down at a wooden picnic table outside in the courtyard.

Tara unpacked her lunch, a slice of bread and milk in a carton.

“So, where’d you go before here?” Xander bit into his apple.

“I didn’t, I was home schooled, I asked Giles if I could come here, it got kind of boring at home all the time.”

“Who’s Giles? Your dad?” Willow glanced at Tara’s sandwich.

“He’s sort of my guardian.”

“Is that…wheat bread?”

“Um, yeah…”

“Can I touch it?”

Xander explained his friend’s odd behavior. “Her parents are on the Atkins diet, it’s been very traumatic.” He leaned in closer, beginning to feel something for the blonde. “We’re just stupid, it makes us feel better about the nothingness our life possesses, I apologize.”

“So, can I hold it? It’s wheat, right?”

Tara inched away from the boy, not quite comfortable around him.

“Uh, yeah… You can have it if you want.”

After school the triad walked home together, Xander and Tara walking next to each other, and Willow skipping along side them in the street.

“You watching Sex In The City tonight?” Xander asked.

“Sex? No, I’m not really--”

“Oh, you have much to learn.” Willow joined them and draped her arm over the blonde’s shoulders.

Back at Tara’s house, Giles sits on the back porch with an attractive young woman.

“I’m sorry Jenny, I would have gotten things ready, I’m surprised to see you.”

“I hope I’m not a bother…”

“No! No, its fine, I’ve missed you…I’ve missed everyone. How are they, at Network?”

“They’re doing as well as can be expected…we miss you too.”

“I had to leave, Network is not the place to raise a kid.”

“I know, you could have said goodbye.”

Tara walked up the driveway.

“Kid! Damn you got tall!”

The blonde turned, recognizing the voice. “Faith?”

She smiled, seeing her older friend. Faith grunted as the girl barreled into her with outstretched arms. They hugged for a minute.

“I’ve missed you!”

Faith grinned, ruffling the girl’s hair. “We’ve missed you too.”

“We? Jenny’s here too?”

“Yeah, let’s get inside, it’s hot out here.”

They entered the house to find Jenny Calender and Giles in the kitchen.

“Faith?” Giles looked at her oddly.

“You didn’t tell him?” Faith looked at Jenny.

“Not yet…”

“What’s going on?” Giles straightened up.

“We’re the only one’s left Giles, everyone else is dead.” Jenny rested a comforting hand on the Englishman’s shoulder.

Giles sighed, “Tara, go upstairs.”

The blonde did as she was told, climbing solemnly up the stairs, and flopping on the bed, tears staining her cheeks.

‘They’re dead, all of them…I had totally forgotten, it’s been ages since we left Network, and here comes Faith and Jenny. They’re all gone. I can’t pretend to be something I’m not. I can’t pretend to be normal or ordinary. This is so stupid, I should have known it’d never last! How can I explain this to my friends?’

“I know I look normal, but I’m actually a witch (traditionally speaking), and for the past years of my life, I’ve lived with an organization dedicated to destroying my kind. Pass the salt please.”

She sighed. ‘They’d hate me.’

Tara walked to the top of the stairs, straining to hear the conversation down stairs.

“I don’t understand!” Giles’ accent was clearly distinguished. “They’ve never relied on violence so heavily, why would they attack Network?!”

Jenny looked solemn. “Who knows, Angel is crazy. The combination of insanity and all the power he’s got is a lethal mix.”

Tara hung her head, ‘Angel, I should have known. He and Giles used to be so close, they were like brothers, then he lost his soul!’

She flashed back to a better time, when she was just a child, five years of age.

Giles was working and she was running around Network, everyone there loved her, patting her head and giving her snacks.

“Who is this man?”

She had found a picture of Angel on Giles’ desk. Jenny took it from her and told her that it was a bad question to ask, and that she should never bring it up. She had said he did bad things that no person should ever do. And when Tara got frightened she’d held her and told her they wouldn’t let the bad guy win.

‘I never thought people would get killed…but what if it’s true? What if we’re the only four left? The bad guy did win.’

She turned and went back to her room.

‘I wish I could say I’m sorry, but that small angry part of me is happy they’re gone.’

Giles entered the room hours later, he sat on the bed next to the blonde.

“Did you hear about Network?”

“Yes.”

“Faith and Jenny are going to stay here for a while.”

“You used to say that Network had been around since biblical times, do you think it’s odd that it was destroyed after we left?”

“I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.”

Chris and Rei-

This is off to a really intriguing start. I'm glad you included the link to the comic, since I'm not well versed in the graphic novel universe, but it seems cool. It made the subtle changes you've made that much funnier--ONE slice of wheat bread for lunch (sheesh, kids these days); and I like Faith in the John role--that makes total sense.

Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to more, but Chris? What's with the animosity toward random citrus fruit?

NETWORK'S CHILD

Postby ambersagoddess » Mon Sep 06, 2004 10:03 am

Hey gang! Thanks to Insanity because after much deliberation (just kidding, we don't deliberate) Chris and I decided we liked Network's Child, because Network pretty much raised Tara, however, her parentage is another story, for another update...

Chapter Three: Friend

“Hey!”

Tara jogged up to Xander who was getting things from his locker. Willow stood near by, clutching her books to her chest, her hood up over her head, an angry scowl uglying her face.

“What’s up with Willow?”

Xander smiled, “Her dad used her computer last night, she hates it because he always messes it up. The trick is to stay behind her because if you don’t--”

A young man in front of Willow was suddenly kicked out of the way with an angry boot.

“She’ll be fine after lunch. We’re going to a movie after school, you wanna come?”

******

After the movie the group walked down the street.

“That was so not scary.” Xander scoffed.

“So, it wasn’t you who was screaming like a little girl?”

“Of course not.”

“Uh, huh, sure.”

A man approached them, Tara stopped, but the others continued on.

“What are you doing here?”

“Tara, come with me.”

“No.”

The man tackled her and pinched a pressure point until she passed out. He then carried her into his car, which was parked across the street.

“Fine, I’ll just have to force you.”

The two heard the commotion and turned.

“What the hell?”

They were both fallen by a crack on the back of the head by another, similarly dressed man.

“You shouldn’t have done that, the boss said not to hurt them.”

“They’re only humans, who cares about humans?”

******

“Iiii like it thaaaat way.” Angel sung to himself.

Ethan Rayne sat nearby in the cozy private-library like setting, reading a book. “You’re in quite a good mood tonight Angel.”

“Yeah, it’s amazing.”

Ethan looked at him apprehensively.

“Oh come on, Ethan, lighten up! By the way, you didn’t happen to see a little witch moppet at school today did you, blonde hair, blue eyes, cute as a button?”

“I did. But it’s not the first witch I’ve seen attending high school.” He set down his book.

“She was Giles’.” Angel growled under his breath, sitting next to Ethan.

“That seems unlikely. She was just a random witch.”

“Isn’t it odd that the only reason we attacked Network was to find Giles, and when we get there, he’s already vanished? Kind of ironic that they’re all dead and Giles isn’t.” Angel smiled. “Sure they were a pain in the ass, but having a nemesis was fun.”

“Angel, I’ve told you, destroying Network was a mistake, we’ve co-existed for centuries.”

“Yeah, but it was great watching the place burn. Anyway, I had some minions grab the witch.”

“Why?!” Ethan jumped.

“Because she’s not a random girl Ethan, she’s Giles’!”

“The Power’s aren’t going to like this…”

“I don’t care, they can kiss my evil ass. Lend me your phone, I’m going to call my lovely brother.”

“Just leave them be, return the girl.”

“Where’s the fun in that? He should have known he can’t walk away, we’re a family backed by the powers of evil!”

‘Hello?’

“Ah, Giles, it’s Angel, how’ve you been?”

‘ANGEL?’

“I’ve found you, your little Network pals led me right to you.”

‘Damnit Angel, leave me alone, I’ve made my choice.’

“Hate to break it to you ‘bro’ but you can’t just leave.”

‘Angel, I’m not talking to you about this.’

“Yes you are! You’ve betrayed our family! We gave you all those chances to come back, but you just kept shoving it in our faces!”

‘What do you want from me.’

“Come to our house, where we used to spend the summers, on the edge of town.”

‘I’m not playing your little games Angel.’

“Fine, then I’ll just kill your little witch.”

‘Tara!’

“Oh is that her name? How sweet. She really is adorable Giles.”

‘You can’t!’

“I can, and I will, be here in half an hour or she’s gone.”

‘She’s just a child!’

“Bring Dru’s book with you too, you took it, I want it back.”

Angel hung up the phone and handed it back to Ethan.

He exited the room swiftly and walked down the hall, awaiting his brother’s arrival.

******

Giles walked into the next room to find Jenny listening in.

“I just wanted to order pizza…You’re his brother?! How can you be Angel’s brother! You were our friend, you worked for Network.”

“Jenny, not now, I have to leave…”

“And all this about re-joining them!? When Angel’s minions came they knew things, how to get in the building, how to get past security, you told them didn’t you! You told them!”

“No! I’d never do that, I left them, they were wrong, I wouldn’t.”

“Explain it to me, spare five minutes of your half hour, tell me why I shouldn’t kick your ass.”

“I visited them. I told them to leave Network alone, that’s all! Then things got bad. You don’t walk away from that family. I had to run like hell.”

“Ran like hell from Network too.”

“That was for Tara, Jenny.”

“Why didn’t you tell me!?”

“I knew you’d be upset, I have to go get Tara now.”

He left.

“Just be careful…”

Faith came jogging down the stairs. “What’s with the yelling? Can’t a person get any sleep around here?”

“Faith, did you know Giles was one of them?”

“Only recently, but I was a spy for Network, practically lived with the bad guys.”

“I want to find Angel, I want to make him pay for this bloodshed. Wouldn’t that be nice?”

-Rei

Xander wakes up in a dark room, Willow near him. “Ow,” Xander holds the back of his head, “Double ow…anyone catch the license plate of that bus?” Xander’s eyes adjust to the dark and he sees Willow, “Willow?”

“Ungh, five more minuets.”

“Willow, wake up. We’re in serious trouble.”

Willow groans and holds her head, she nearly falls to her side but Xander supports her as she makes it to one knee. Willow groans, “Ungh, what happened?”

Xander speaks quietly, trying not to aggravate the pain in the back of his head, “I think we’ve been kidnapped.”

Willow looks confused, “But why?”

Xander shrugs his shoulders, “Dunno, but they took Tara too.”

Willow looks across the room at Tara lying on her stomach, her hair not covering the back of her neck. “That’s weird…is it just me or is that some tribal type tattoo thing?”

Xander looks at Tara’s neck and sees what Willow is looking at, a triquetra inside a sun. “Doesn’t look inky, maybe it’s just some weird birth defect.”

Willow raises an eyebrow, “Or not.”

Xander sighs his voice now a little louder, “Well I don’t know, maybe she’s some cooky witchdoctor or something.”

Xander’s big gob wakes Tara up and she murmurs, “Witch?” Willow puts her hand towards Tara, that’s when she feels the cool air on the back of her neck, then she jerked away, “NO!”

Willow and Xander’s looks of concern turn to confusion, Tara looks at their shocked faces as she covers the back of her neck, now sitting in the corner of the room. “I’m sorry, I’ve never had friends who didn’t know.”

Willow looks angry as something begins to click…“What’s going on? They took you first, not us. Who – or should I say what – are you?”

Tara huddles in her corner, “I’m…I-I’m a witch.”

Ethan walks by himself down the street, he begins to feel like he’s being watched and stops when he hears a voice, “Yo E.”

Ethan makes a questioning noise as he turns around right into a cross punch from Faith.

Faith smirks as Ethan holds his nose, “Wow man, that felt good! Here’s you all walking alone and then there’s me all kapow!”

Ethan groans as he makes it shakily to his feet, “Yes Faith, so very mature.”

Faith’s eyes and tone of voice turn deadly serious, “I owe you and Angel some pain you know.”

“And why’s that?”

“I’m not even gonna dignify that with a response.”

Ethan looks out of the corner of his eye as he hears another voice, “You’re Angel Jenner’s damn lackey! You’d think you’d know exactly why we are looking for him.” Ethan turns to see Jenny holding a big-ass sword, “Now, I’d really like to pay the last remaining Jenner a visit, so where is he?”

Ethan merely replies, “That sword is not a toy Jenny.”

Jenny smirks, “I know this isn’t a toy, I’m gonna use it to kill Angel. Poetic justice I’d say, this being the last thing left of Network…besides us that is.”

Ethan sighs, “Is that what this is all about? Revenge?” Ethan spits, “You two should know better! This is a war, one that has been fought since the beginning of time. There have always been organisations like Network and there have often been casualties. You should know this Jenny: what happened was nothing special.”

Jenny shouts, “My dad, my stepmother and my little sister was in that building when Angel burned it! How DARE you say they were just casualties!”

“Shit happens Jenny. Grieve and move on.”

Jenny screams and runs towards Ethan, Faith shouts, “Jenny! Wait!” She is too late however as Jenny plunges the sword deep into Ethan’s body, impaling it from front to back. Jenny pulls the sword out, both hands on the handle, as Ethan falls forward.”

Faith grabs Jenny by the shoulders, “Why the fuck did you do that? That’s cold blooded murder!”

Jenny tears herself away from Faith, her eyes as cold as ice, “So? He deserved it.”

Faith looks down at Ethan’s body as Jenny walks away, “Dammit Jenny! This isn’t demon slaying, that body aint just gonna conveniently vanish in a puff of dust…Jenny?”

Faith turns to see that Jenny has walked off, she runs to catch up with her.

Half an hour later and Giles is walking into his old home, “Home, sweet home,” he takes off his glasses and begins to clean them. “What a mess, Angel really is…”

“Giles!”

Giles looks back to see Faith with her foot snagged on the top of the fence, she is breathing hard. “Woah…*pant pant*…been a while since I jumped this fence.”

Giles walks towards Faith, “What are you doing here?”

Faith is now on the ground with her hands on her knees, she coughs, “One sec…just ran a mile in ten seconds…never used to hurt this much though.” Faith regains her breath, “It’s Jenny, she’s gone all wicked mad man. I thought she might be here after Angel.”

“I thought she was ok.”

“Me too, no mention of revenge on the Jenners this past year and suddenly she’s hellbent on making Angel pay…and then…just half an hour ago, she goes and guts Ethan, just like that! She was just meant to scare him.”

Giles walks towards the house, “I don’t have time for this Faith.”

Faith looks shocked as she runs up to Giles and grabs his shoulder, “What is wrong with you?! Don’t you care that Jenny just killed someone?”

“I doubt that she killed him.”

“Huh? I saw it, gutted through the stomach. No one lives through that.”

Giles sighs, “Some families have heirlooms, the Jenners…they have him. He’s served them since the darkages and as a reward, they gave him a demon heart. He’s bloody immortal.”

“He’s immortal? What the hell?!”

Giles’ voice now sounds urgent, “Yes, now Faith, I need you to go. Now.”

A low voice comes from another room, “I don’t remember inviting her.” If there is a voice, there must be a speaker…Angel steps out of the door. “How rude Faith, do I crash your family reunions?”

Giles looks at Angel, “She was just leaving.”

Faith backs off, “Yeah…I was just lea…” Click Faith stops speaking as a gun is placed near her head.

Giles looks around to see black-suited guys with shades and pointy ears, “What is going on?”

Angel smirks, “They’re just happy to see you. Welcome home Giles.”

Brittney: Nice sig. lol. Someday you will be a real dyke, like ponochio, but not. *Sings 'in just seven days I can make you a man'* Hmm, that's not ponochio...

Reds: Yes, it's really bad, so here, just substitue the characters. Yeah, it's a birthmark, it's just really intricate, so it looks like a tattoo.

Mel: This is pretty much all ripped off of the comic, so just head over there and check it out. The link is in the first post. Nice sig.

Duer: Hey there handsome! It's a very cool fic, based on a very cool comic.

EVERYONE: I encourage you ALL to go check out the comic, the link is in the first post, don't be shy.

Re: NEW FIC: Network's Child (Update Sept. 11th)

Postby ambersagoddess » Sat Sep 11, 2004 5:18 pm

Alright gang, here's your update, sorry it took so long!

Chapter 5- Remember Me.

The three teens sat in their enclosure; Tara looking at the ground in shame. Xander’s eyes were wide, yet Willow seemed oddly calm.

“What did you just say?” Willow stared at Tara in shock.

“Didn’t you hear her; she said she was a witch.” Xander glared at the redhead, the cogs in his head turned and the situation clicked, he turned to Tara, eyes wide, “YOU’RE A WHAT?!”

Willow rolled her eyes at him. “You are kidding, right, Tara?”

Tara sighed. “I wish. Look, I don’t know why we were taken, but I know who brought us here. Those men, they work for a family, the Jenners…”

Tara explained all about Angel and Network, informing them of everything she knew.

At the end of her lengthy story, Tara’s two companions were wide eyed.

“Wow,” Willow shook her head, “its not everyday you here that the world is inhabited by witches and there’s a huge government agency trying to kill them all…”

“Fool!” Xander grabbed her, “I told you to watch Passions; I knew they couldn’t make that up!”

“What’s Passions?” Tara looked over at them.

“I told you its real!” Xander was, by this time, freaking out.

“Oh come on, Xander!” Willow gave him a shove, “So you don’t know who this Angel guy wants with us?”

“No, but it may have something to do with Faith and Jenny…”

“Who are they?” Xander appeared to have calmed down and was now piqued with interest.

“They worked at Network; Jenny’s okay, kind of scary some times though, and Faith is the coolest, she used to bring me candy when I was little. Giles never liked her much. I don’t know why though, Faith was the only other person at Network who was nice to me. Not many people at Network were nice to me…” Tara curled up against a wall. “Anyway, Jenny and Faith came to our house last night; I think Angel’s looking for them.”

“Well,” Xander looked at Willow, “what do you want to do?”

Willow looked up... “There’s a skylight,” …and around. “some boxes.”

Tara and Willow looked at Xander with grins on their faces.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

A few minutes later they managed to stack a few boxes up, get Xander on top of them, and Willow on top of him.

“Ugh! Just because I’m the guy--” Xander pushed Willow’s body up towards the ceiling.

“Oh shut up, you get to touch my butt.”

“Oh, now there’s a threat.”

“Oof!”

Tara cringed as the two fall to the ground. Xander’s the first to recover.

“I have an idea, get on my shoulders this time.” Xander explained.

“Oh yes, it worked so well the first time, let’s just make it an even longer drop!” Willow rubbed her head.

“Come on.” Xander lifted the redhead up and they once again scrambled on the box, this time after minutes of unsuccessful grasping, Willow caught hold.

Willow grabbed the edge of the skylight and pushed back the glass. “Got it!”

Xander let go and wiped the sweat from his forehead. “Sweet, Merciful, Zeus.”

“Ahh!” Willow was dangling from the opening. “Xander! Don’t let go!”

After ten minutes of pushing, pulling, and swearing, the trio was on the roof.

“Now what, genius?” Xander stared at Willow.

“Now we make like a tree and get the frilly hell out of here.” Willow looked down at the ground.

Angel is clinging to Drusilla’s book of poetry. His minions have Faith and are standing behind him.

“Look, call me old fashioned, but your boys should have bought me a drink before tying me up and taking me home.”

“Oh shut up, Faith. You know, I let you walk away once. You should have stayed away; I’m not going to let you go again. Let me guess, it was Jenny’s idea to find my brother and restart Network… please tell me it’s not true, tell me you have a brain beneath that thick skull of yours?”

Faith doesn’t answer him.

“That’s what I thought. I should hope that flattering hairstyle wasn’t her idea too.” Angel approached her and ruffled her now short and naturally spiky hair.

He turned from her and walked to a table on the other end of the room, here Giles sat, not tied or bound, just sitting. He dropped the poetry book on the table.

“Angel, what are you doing?”

The young vampire opened the book, flipping through it. “I don’t really remember her, I try though.”

“Just let Tara go, please.”

“Spike’s dead. He staked himself, so I killed Network.”

“Oh, dear lord. Angel, I’m sorry…” Giles looked down at his hands.

“It was your fault, you said you hated him. You said you never wanted to see him again. You destroyed our family Giles!”

“You have what you want, Angel, you have me, you have Dru’s book. You don’t need the others.”

Angel shut the book and looked at Faith. “Giles, you care more about that witch bitch than your own family.”

“Of course I love her, I raised her.” Giles watched Angel and Faith.

Faith looked away.

Angel looked at Giles. “You left us, because you said we were evil, then you go and adopt a witch, a bit hypocritical, don’t you think, Giles?”

Giles stood, becoming uncomfortable. “She’s a good person, Angel, you’re not.”

Angel was silent for a while before nodding. “Alright, Giles, I’m not like Spike, I’m not going to give you a second chance.” He looked to his men. “Kill them all.”

Back on the roof the kids were staring up at the sky.

Tara looked down at the ground. “So how do we get off the roof?”

“Maybe we can learn to fl--”

Xander was suddenly cut off when he fell through the roof, landing on one of Angel’s lackies.

“Ahh! That was scary; luckily this pointy-eared guy in a suit broke my fall.”

The two girls looked down through the hole.

“Giles?”

Giles looked up to see Tara looking down at him.

Faith broke free of her restraints and started opening a can of whup-ass.

Tara leaped down to offer her assistance, magick crackling from her hands. She was suddenly grabbed, her hands restrained.

“Get off of me damnit!” The blonde struggled.

“Oh how cute…” Angel approached her.

Giles and Faith were held back.

“Tara isn’t it, you know me, I’m sure…”

“Angel.” Tara hissed his name.

“That’s right, Angel Jenner. It’s sad, Tadpole--”

Willow flinched.

“--I’m the last of my family. History tells it that we gave ourselves to evil the night Christ died, in exchange for the world. History’s important, kiddo. So let me tell you a little more…This wasn’t some random attack, I didn’t kill three hundred plus people just to be mean. This is personal, Tadpole, --”

Willow flinched again.

“--this all could have been avoided if my brother had just stayed home.”

Tara felt her stutter creep back. “Y-your b-brother?”

“Oh, he didn’t tell you? Of course not. You are his redemption after all. If a witch can be good, so can a Jenner.” Angel leaned in, she could smell blood and alcohol on his breath. “Do you feel evil inside you? Does it want out?”

Faith was angry by this time. “Quit picking on her Angel, she’s just a kid!”

Suddenly the demons restraining Faith were sliced and diced.

“Sorry, it took me a while to find the place.” Jenny’s sword was bathed in blood.

The one remaining minion attacked, his head was deftly removed before he could lay a hand on the sword wielder.

“Like you weren’t going to kill him, didn’t he see his friends get killed?” Faith rolled her eyes

Jenny walked up to Angel, placing her bloody sword on his shoulder. “So you’re Angel, you’re younger than I thought you’d be. When they said you were a vampire, I thought they meant hundreds of years old.”

“I was recently turned.”

She pressed the sword against his neck.

“It hurts to lose family doesn’t it, Jenny. Killing makes it better, try, you’ll like it.” Angel smirked.

Giles stepped in between them, putting a hand on Jenny’s shoulder. “Jenny, don’t.”

Jenny looked at him without anger, but with wonder and discovery. “But I want to, I want to hurt him.”

“No you don’t, leave him be.” The two share a moment, gazing into each other’s eyes. “It doesn’t solve anything, you know that.”

Faith looks at them with shock and jealousy.

“Oh how sweet.” Angel looked at them, “Seriously, stop, I’m going to gag.”

The evil vampire paced, “Odd, that you’ve ruined our family, just to seek out another.”

“Aren’t you tired of fighting, Angel?” Giles followed him with his eyes. “You’re hurting yourself as much as me.”

“It was always about you, you know, after you left?”

“It was my choice to leave.”

“It wasn’t fair to us.”

“Life isn’t fair, Angel, be a man, or as much of one as you can be. We’re leaving, and you had better not pull something like this again.”

“I’ll see you in Hell, Giles.” Angel glared and them. “That’s where all Jenners end up, you know? No exceptions.”

Angel turns and leaves the room.

Jenny turns to look at Giles. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

“I’m not!” Faith shouted from the wall, waving her tied arms in the air. “A little help?”

Jenny comes over and cuts her bonds with the sword. “I’m sorry I ran off.”

“Me too, you scared me. Why didn’t you tell me you were in trouble?”

“I didn’t want to bother you.”

“Bothering me is always a better option then stabbing someone.” Faith smiled and rubbed the circulation back into her wrists.

“I know, I was just frustrated…”

“Well, it’s okay, because it turns out you gutted an immortal.”

“What?” Jenny’s eyes went wide.

“Giles told me, Ethan is apparently immortal as all Hell, bitchin’, yeah?”

“I suppose…”

Giles bent over to help Tara up off the floor where she was cast by her captor. “Well, that was a dramatic entry.”

“Like in the movies.”

“Except people don’t get hurt.”

Tara brushed herself off and helped Xander up. “This is Xander…and,” she looks up to where Willow is poking her head through the hole, “that’s Willow. They’re friends from school…”

“Nice to meet you both.” Giles helps Willow down to the ground.

“Hate to rain on the parade, but what just happened? I mean, we’re kidnapped, Tara’s a witch. A little help here?” Xander put a hand on Willow’s shoulder out of protective-best-friend instinct.

“It is a very long and complicated story, I’m sorry you two were involved…We’d better go, my car is out front, and this place isn’t safe.”

The group left, Giles stayed behind for a moment, looking at Drusilla’s poem book. He picked it up and discretely slipped it in his jacket pocket.
