Chapter Seven - Fall To PiecesSighing, Tara sat down on the big marble steps outside of the University library...no sign of the redhead anywhere. Though the lady inside told her that Willow wouldn’t be starting until next week. Working at the library meant no loss of Willow, and no loss of Willow meant that maybe there was still a chance.
The blonde sighed even deeper knowing just how much she hurt the redhead with not calling or even explaining her reasons for not having contact with her. Maybe Willow hated her and didn’t want things to change - for the better anyway.
“Tara?” Willow stopped at the bottom of the steps and squinted at her friend. “Are you lost?”
“Kind of,” Tara whispered, standing up. “How are you?”
Willow just shrugged and both women felt a slight awkwardness pass through them. “How are you?”
Tara mirrored Willow’s actions before trailing her hand along the brass rail and stepping closer to the redhead that took her breath away. “I’m sorry about avoiding you,” she licked her lips.
“I was worried about you,” Willow confessed, “and I was worried that maybe I had done something wrong. I didn’t understand Tara, I mean I know I’m just that little redhead that ran around making yours and my sister’s life miserable...but I just wanted to be closer to you.”
“You’re not little to me anymore sweetie,” Tara whispered. “You’re Willow, an amazing young woman whom I adore.”
“I am?” Willow’s eyes shot open.
“You are,” Tara breathed, “can you forgive me?”
“There’s nothing to forgive,” the redhead met baby blues. “Tara, I just want things back to where they used to be...I want you to talk to me...I mean, I get that with Ocean not really liking...I mean, I don’t even know for sure if you like me the way I like you, but I know Ocean doesn’t agree.”
“I don’t just like you Will,” Tara brought a hand up to Willow’s cheek. “I’m falling, hard and fast and I don’t want the heavens above to catch me, if it means that you won’t catch me as I fall, then I just want to keep falling, I want so much to know that my heart is there for you...always.”
“Oh Tara,” Willow smiled and hugged the blonde close. “I’ve been in love with you for years!”
“I know,” Tara smiled and pulled back, wiping away the tears from the freckled face in front of her. “But I had to wait until you were of age,” she chuckled, placing a tender kiss on Willow’s forehead.
“Why?”
“How else can we express this unspoken love?” Tara smiled softly.
“Oh,” Willow blushed.
“About Ocean, sweetie, I don’t know what to do...all I know is what I want, and I want us to be happy.”
“I do too, but how can I not hurt my sister in the process of being in love with her best friend?” Willow said sadly.
Tara sighed and brushed a few red strands from Willow’s eyes and looked at her intently, “she knows,” she whispered, “she knows what I feel for you and she may not understand now, but she will. Ocean loves you, you’re her little sister and she’s very protective of you and she loves me because I’m her best friend and she knows that I’d do anything for her... but not being able to confess my feelings for you is not one of them,” the blonde held her voice low and quiet.
Willow had tears in her eyes. She was torn between following her heart and not destroying her sister in the process, but she felt Tara was right. Ocean loved them both and it may take time for her to get used to it, she will eventually. “So what now?”
“Well, I could go back to work and explain why I took off...which I should explain to you why I took off,” Tara sat down on the steps and pulled Willow beside her, taking the redhead’s hands into her own and holding them gently, “Oz told me about your plans if this University library things doesn’t work out...”
“I know, I went to the restaurant and he was there, I’m sorry I never told you...I couldn’t-” Willow was cutoff by two delicate fingers placed on her lips.
“You’re not moving to Seattle,” Tara spoke in a low firm tone.
Willow raised her eyebrows and allowed a half smirk grace her lips. “And why? Because you said so?” she teased, squeezing the blonde’s hand affectionately.
“Well...yes, but no,” Tara giggled and was happy to hear Willow joining her as well.
“Miss Rosenberg, I see you couldn’t wait until we phoned you,” An older male came walking down the marble steps with a briefcase in hand.
“Mr. Leslie,” Willow stood up and straightened out her long denim skirt, clearing her throat. “How are you, sir?”
“Good, and yourself?” he let out a soft chuckle.
“I’m good,” the redhead looked down at Tara, who was still sitting, “better...great...I’m great,” she smiled.
“Oh good...great to hear, I take it your blonde beautiful friend told you the news?”
“N-no sir, I didn’t,” Tara hopped up and bit her lip, waiting to see Willow’s reaction with the good news.
“News? What news?” Willow frowned and looked back and forth between Tara and the guy who was about to hire her for the job.
“Congratulations Willow Rosenberg, we’re happy to have you on our library board, with your amount of knowledge, I’m sure our University library will pick up!” Mr. Leslie shook a shocked redhead’s hand, giving her a friendly pat on the back before taking off down the steps and to his vehicle.
“I...wha...huh?” Willow turned around and looked at Tara with wide eyes. “Did he just...? Did I just...? I’m not going to Seattle!” She yelped and jumped up and down excitedly. “Tara! I got the job!”
Tara laughed and watched Willow as she fell more in love with her, bounce around like a little girl at her best birthday party.
Willow noticed Tara’s thousand watt smile and threw her arms around the blonde’s neck, nuzzling the soft skin lightly. “You knew?” she whispered, finally calming down.
Tara smiled and tucked red hair behind perfect ears. “I went in there to see if you were there and they told me you didn’t start yet...so yes, I knew... and I was about to tell you that was why you weren’t going to leave me for some job in Seattle.”
Willow swallowed and cupped the side of Tara’s face in her hand, stroking the smooth skin lightly with her thumb. “Amazing,” she whispered before leaning in and pressing her lips gently against the blonde’s softly.
Tara’s heart swelled and beat faster as she felt silky lips move against her own in a slow melody. Her hands buried themselves in red hair as Willow and Tara shared their first, romantic, kiss.
