Hey you guys! OK first of all THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your feedback I can't stress that enough! This has been my favorite chapter to write so far and I hope you guys like it...
Chapter 4: A Fun Filled Outing
"Do you see them?" Willow asked Xander who was sat next to her at a bench in front of The Sunnydale Theater working on his third bag of popcorn.
"No...you think Anya could've included the *time* at all?" The boy asked.
Willows' brow furrowed "do...do you think maybe we got here too late...maybe they're already-"
"What? On their way to mexico to elope?...Will, you're being insane, we've been here since the place opened,
it's now 5 p.m...and I wanna go home, you promised me a fun-filled outing!"
But Willow wasn't really listening to the boy as the girl she'd been waiting to see all day came walking around the corner and into her field of vision.....being followed by Buffy...'great...'
She turned to Xander, "My heart just sank a little..."
"Huh?" the boy asked, as he'd just been in the middle of a very thought out speech about how Willow owed her an entire Saturday.
"They're here..."
"Oh."
"Be normal... act cool..."
"I thought you said be normal."
Willow got up as she saw the two girls get close enough to see them.
"Buffy! Tara!...What um, what are you guys doing here? I mean not that you can't be here just-"
"Will...breathe." Buffy said.
"We um, w-we came to see 'The Fast and the Furious'...Buffy chose it." Tara said while fiddling with her fingers.
"Not your type of movie huh?" Willow smirked knowingly and Tara just shook her head no.
"So what movie did you guys come to see?" Buffy asked.
"Um..same!" Willow said, "Right Xander?" She elbowed the boy in the ribs.
"Uh yeah! I love that Vin Diesel!" Xander said while rubbing his stomach.
"Great then...w-we can all um...see it together?" Tara asked.
"Yeah great!" Willow agreed readily.
"Great!" Xander said, "Let's get some popcorn first though..."
"Great." Buffy mumbled, unenthused.
**************************
They sat at the the center of the small theater, Tara in between Willow and Buffy and Willow in between Xander and Tara.
"I need some ju-ju bees" Xander whispered to Willow about twenty minutes into the movie.
"What?" Willow whispered back.
"I ran out of popcorn, go buy me some ju-ju bees" he whispered again.
"Buy your own darn ju-ju bees Xander."
"Who invited who miss call a boy up at 9 am on a Saturday and-"
"Shhh, fine I'll go get your candy." Willow relented before getting up.
"Thank you."
"I um...I should get up too...I r-ran out of popcorn too." Tara whispered, getting up with Willow.
"I could get it for you if you want" Buffy offered.
Tara flashed her a small smile "That's alright."
**************************
"Liking the movie?" Tara asked Willow as she paid for Xander's candy.
"I um...I'm not sure I get it." Willows' eyebrows furrowed as she frowned a little.
"Right...you're an Honors Gifted English student and can quote Shakespeare from memory yet the Fast and the Furious is somehow beyond you" Tara teased.
"Well do *you* get it?" Willow arched up one eyebrow.
"I um...I don't think we're supposed to, I think we're just supposed to watch the cars jump really high and go oooh."
Willow giggled, "Yeah...um do you wanna maybe go outside and walk for a while? U-unless you know you'd rather go back which is totally cool if um...if that's what you decide to do."
"Outside sounds wonderful." Tara said.
****************************
Once they were outside they walked until they reached the parking lot and decided to sit down by a 'No Parking'
sign embedded in the grass.
"Hey Tara...can I um, ask you a question?" Willow asked wishing she had rehearsed this in her head a few dozen times.
"Sure" Tara turned to give Willow her full attention.
"Do you- I mean...you don't...do you like Buffy?" Willow asked.
"Buffy's a sweetie" Tara said looking down and pausing for a moment before turning to meet Willows' eyes dead on "but I can't like a girl who doesn't know how to laugh at the Maccaroni Monster, or half camel stories or the fact God is dog spelled backwards which is really weird and disconcerting..."
"And can give you a headache if you think about it too much..." Willow added smiling brilliantly out of relief and out of what Tara's words hinted at...or at least what she *hoped* the girl was hinting at.
There was a brief pause where both girls smiled and just looked at eachother adoringly, their eyes speaking volumes, saying things their mouths were too afraid to convey.
Finally after a few precious minutes had passed Tara broke the gaze and the silence, "oh! I just remembered!"
She took a rainbow beaded bracelet from her wrist, Willow noticed that 6 of the beads in the center of the bracelet had different colored, hand painted letters on them that spelled out ALWAYS and in between the W and second A was a red heart bead. "I um, m-made you this at camp...we spent a lot of time making bracelets and wallets...it was kind of like a sweatshop but w-with a lake and um..s'mores." She giggled nervously at her own joke hoping Willow wouldn't think her gift stupid yet knowing completely in her heart that would never happen.
Willow smiled brightly, "I love it!..You- you didn't have to-"
"It was w-worth it" Tara said, reaching up to trace Willow's smiling lips with a finger "For a hundred watt Willow-smile."
Willow smiled impossibly wider and pulled Tara in for a long hug, basking in the minutes she got to spend being this close to the girl of her dreams.
"Your hair's making me dizzy" Willow said from where her face was buried in Tara's hair "...i-in a good way though."
"Herbal Essences" Tara said smiling.
"Good brand" Willow replied before she pulled away slightly keeping one hand at Tara's waist while she held her other hand out in front of the girl, "put it on me?"
"Sure" Tara said slipping the bracelet on the girls' slim wrist before entwining their fingers together, "I was um, I was gonna give it to you at lunch but..."
"Sorry I was just-"
"Really, really hungry?" Tara quirked up an eyebrow as she teased her best friend.
"Don't quirk that brow up at me missy..."
"Oh yeah? And what are you gonna do about it?"
"Tickle you mercilessly?"
"No!" Tara squealed but it was too late, Willow had tackled Tara down on the grass and was launching a full-on tickle attack on the helpless girl. After wrestling on the grass for a few seconds it was clear that this was a losing battle for Tara. "Uncle!" The girl squealed.
"Uncle who?" Willow had pinned Tara's hands above her head.
"Uncle Ralph who works at a gas station?" Tara asked.
At that point both girls had cracked up laughing rolling around on the ground. They stopped to lay on their sides; facing eachother.
"I was jealous" Willow whispered after a few seconds of comfortable silence.
"W-what?" Tara asked, though she understood what Willow meant.
"I hated the fact someone got there before I did..." Willow whispered looking down at a blade of grass.
Tara searched for Willows' eyes "So did I..."
They smiled at eachother both girls very aware they'd never been this close before...
"Guys? What's-?" Buffy wasn't a very smart or perceptive girl but she wasn't stupid, so she didn't finish asking a question she already knew the answer to. Instead she turned around and ran away as quickly as her feet could carry her...which was quick.
"Buff, wait!" Willow said as her and Tara got up off the ground, but it was hopeless.
"W-we should-" Tara spoke up.
"No," Willow turned to her, "I'm her best friend...if anyone should it's me..."
"You'd better um...go then I guess." Tara said, wishing she could rewind time to just a few seconds ago.
"Yeah," Willow pulled Tara in for a much too short hug and a sweet kiss on the cheek, "Tommorow?" she asked and Tara nodded, "Always."
***************************
"Buff?" Willow asked quietly, sitting down on the swing next to her best friend. She found Buffy at the park where she knew the girl would be.
"In one day I've been ditched and dumped and I wish betrayed started with a 'D' so I can make a cute little rhyme out of my teenage trauma."
"I-it wouldn't be a rhyme...it'd be alliteration...and you could always use deceived except-"
"Will? Severely missing the point much?"
"Sorry."
"Why didn't you tell me you liked her?" Buffy asked after a while.
"Well...'cause..." Willow frowned, "I dunno I guess."
"I would've gotten it you know? I would have stepped off."
"But you liked her too..."
"Yeah, in a hot chick Buffy like, kinda way...simple hot girl I like kind of like...you like Tara in a complicated way" Buffy looked down at the ground frowning, "and if I were a better friend I would have noticed a long time ago that you did..."
"No! Buffy...*I'm* the bad friend here...I-I stole your date-"
"No you didn't...you can't have 'cause I never had one, I didn't have a date at lunch and I didn't have a date when I picked Tara up at her door and I *really* didn't have a date when you guys popped up at the theater which I'm starting to suspect wasn't ever really an accident..."
They both laughed.
"Look Will...it's high school and girls are gonna come and girls are gonna go but the Will/Buff friendship is forever...right?"
"Right." Willow smiled brightly happy to see Buffy was taking this so well..."So...you're not mad at all...really?"
"Nah...Tara kept trying to tell me now that I think about it...I thought she was being regular ol' shy Tara...pretty dumb huh? I just hope things aren't weird on Monday."
"Don't worry Buffy everything's all cleared up now..."
"Except for one thing..." Buffy smirked
"What?"
"Are Willow and Tara sitting up in a Willow tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G'in?"
Willow snorted "No....not yet" she added quietly.
But Buffy still caught it, "Not yet huh? Way to go Willster!"
"I better go home" Willow said after a while.
"Yeah me too..." Buffy said.
"I guess this is goodbye then huh?..." Willow asked.
"Yeah I guess so..." Buffy said, "Later..." as she watched Willow walking away she looked thoughtful for a second then stopped her, "Hey Will!"
"Yeah?" Willow turned around to see Buffy holding her arms out to her.
"C'mere."
And the two friends shared a sweet 'let's-never-fight-again' hug.
"I love you Wills" Buffy said.
"I love you too Buff."
"Hey Will?"
"Yeah Buff?"
"Is there a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"
"Huh?" Willow asked as she reached inside her pants pocket. "Oh...it's just Xanders' ju-ju bees."
"Oh" Buffy said.
There was a brief pause.
Then Willows' eyes widened in realization, "Oh my God! We forgot about Xander!"
