Speaking of this episode .. something that has been bothering me is when Willow keeps interrupting and saying they're friends. Like here:

WILLOW: Coffee .. with us .. who are just friends.

Or:

TARA: Or sharing a room with someone you....

WILLOW: Are friends with?

Why did Willow keep saying that when they made it known that Willow wanted Tara back? It confused me. Could someone help me out?

I think she didn't want Tara to feel rushed. She just wanted to make clear she was there and waiting. But she wanted it to be Tara's decision.

It's also very clear in the speech part. Willow just sits there ans lets Tara explain.

Since Tara is the one who ended their relationship because of the things Willow had done, she also was the only one who could get things going again.

The word "friends" has different meanings during different parts of their conversation in the hallway. When Tara says the girl she kissed on the check was just a "friend" she's being literal. But when Tara asks Willow if Willow wants to invite a "friend" to their coffee date and Willow quickly responds "no! no friends" I think "friend" means gf, or at least someone Willow might be dating. So I think sometimes "friends" is used as a euphemism for something much more.

I also think Willow uses the word throughout the episode like the canary in the coal mine. Willow interrupts and blurts the word "friend" to feel out where she stands with Tara, to gauge Tara's reaction to Willow's suggestions that they may still be friends, even if only in the literal, platonic sense and possibly in the euphemistic sense of something much more.

If I were in Willow's shoes, I would be totally unsure of whether Tara still wanted me, wanted to be with me, now or ever, or whether she even wanted to try to just be friends with me. I don't think Willow really knew where she stood with Tara until Tara said "can we just skip it." So up until that point, Willow has to be going crazy inside wondering where she stands in Tara's heart and not wanting to pressure Tara or seem like she expects Tara to come running back to her.

first...what kind of reaction is that ^ ?

and second. I absolutely love love love this speech. It's the never ending fight that the mind has with the heart. The mind knows what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to take things slow and get to know each other again and see if you can still fit together.

But when it comes right down to it, when you're standing right there looking them in the eye and you try and say the words and be strong and do what you think is the right thing to do, your heart just takes over and does what needs to be done. Whether or not it will be the best for you is questionable, but it'll work out or it won't. Whatever it is at least you can look back and have a moment where you truly had no regrets.

Anyway, that's just what I think.

Since the ideal of their relationship appeals to us all in some way, I simply liked the way Tara came into the room. Hesitant, perhaps cautious at first, tentatively leaning against the doorway, to then making a full charge stride inside. I guess it speaks of where she was mentally, too. Ready to take on the conflict of head vs. heart with her heart being in the lead and every turn, every small step made it that much more clear. Each breath and each second gave her the conviction to follow that wonderful heart.

and I second numbered words 'what was that? ^

Tara: It's not really so much about hating the men...

Willow: We're more centered around the girl on girl action

The way I see it, Tara did indeed rehearse the speech...but mainly as a way of keeping her passions and emotions in check...I think she went out for coffee with Willow and after being away from her soulmate for so long and her heart knowing all that time just how wrong that was, it was all she could do to keep herself from pouncing on Willow right there in the Espresso Pump...

I think she went back to her room and spent several hours wrestling with herself...her heart and soul crying out to be with Willow, reaching out in desperation to touch her and her rational mind telling her that it was too soon to tell and that she should take things slowly, that they should get to know each other again and see what happened then, if they could still fit in each others lives...but in counterpart her soul was screaming No wait! Willow NOW!!! Must be with Willow!!! Which of course made her brain say "I know where you're coming from...but really we can't...must be careful, don't want to get hurt again...but Oh God I want to be with her!"

So she started to list for herself all the reasons why she shouldn't go right over and see the love of her life, which is where the speech came from, telling herself over and over again...must go slow...get to know each other again...can't rush this...NO ME WANT WILLOW NOW! Then as kind of an excuse to herself that she could in fact go over to see her beloved she figured...yeah, I'll go over and tell her this stuff...how we need to take it slow and we can't just have coffee and expect...yeah that'll work...YEAH I GET TO SEE WILLOW!!

Then, once she got there, she was trying her best to go through with this charade of an excuse she'd made for herself...looking at the floor as she stood in the doorway, making her well rehearsed speech...then as soon as she heard the concern in her beloved's voice...and she stepped into the room and finally looked at her...and she saw the love and worry in Willow's eyes and heard her acknowledge that they had to play by Tara's rules and not rush, guilt making her quiet and shy...then Tara's resolve just broke...she melted and couldn't think with her head anymore, cuz every cell in her body needed to touch her Willow much as it needed oxygen...she needed to feel complete with her soulmate again...so that is why in midsentence, she got from It's a long important process to can you just be kissing me now?

And thank God for that! Cuz hello, hot and sexy much...I will never be able to forget that image of her in the sexy leather jacket and the boots being so passionate...kissing Willow like she wanted to take her in and make her a part of herself...I love butch Tara! yummy...then that weasel Joss had to ruin it all...grrrr

I don't think Tara rehearsed the speech. I think she went there to talk to Willow because she knew she wanted to be with her again. The whole time I think she is battleing between exactly what she wants. The long speech is half trying to convince herself that they need to take it slow. This is where the speech is semi-rehearsed because she has said it to herself a million times in her head to keep herself from running back to Willow a long time ago. You can see that everytime, starting from "Once more, with Feeling" when she realizes she has to leave right up until she just gives in with the "Can you just be kissing me now" it tares Tara up inside to do what she has to by not being with Willow. She went there to begin the relationship again. In all honesty I don't know if she knows why she is there which is why that whole speech is mostly meant for herself. She just went there cause she couldn't not be there any longer.

As for the Willow and the "friends" comments. The first time when she was suggesting getting coffee and saying "friends"...it was like assuring/reminding herself that they were going as friends and that was ok to just be friends. It also served the purpose of showing Tara that she knew they were just friends because at this point she doesn't know if Tara still wants to be with her and wants to make sure that Tara knows it's ok to be just friends so that Tara doesn't run away. At the coffee place when she interjects the "friends" comment when talking about living in the house with family and sharing the bed I think its because she doesn't want to get her own hopes up. She still doesn't know if Tara wants to be back with her and thinking about sharing the same bed with the person you are in love with is really difficult to think about if you aren't with the person. Therefor she interjects "friends" to guard herself from hopeing too much.

The only think that I kinda think might have been better with Entropy is if they ended it not while they were kissing but after. Like have them kiss the exact same but then end it with them crying (happy) and going from the kissing to a hug. I know that sounds really stupid, cause yes it was an amazing kiss, but I think that would give it more of the we're together again and I'm not going to let you go type happiness with crying (not heavy but like really happy tears with them smiling HUGE smiles) or at least the hugging AFTER the kiss and then ended with that.

I do like the ending though...that last part was just something I'd been thinking about the, you know one or two times I've watched that scene. :)

Tara: There's so much to work through. Trust has to build again, on both sides...You have to learn if you're even the same people you were, if you can fit in each other's lives, it's a long and important process and can we just skip it? Can you just be kissing me now?

Only one or two times? :eyebrow

Welcome to the board Mythinspace. :pride That´s an interesting analysis. I agree with you, though I´m not sure whether I would have preferred to see another ending to that scene. I certainly would not have complained if it had ended the way you describe and who´s to say it did not. We just did not see it, like a great many other moments we know they must have shared.

For me the Entropy scenes will always be powerful because it reminds me so much of my past love life.

I think Tara definitely rehearsed the speech, but in the end, when feelings are so strong, you can't ignore what your heart is screaming out for, Amber and Aly did themselves proud with this and gave us all what we craved.

I'm going off now to start my fic on how S6 should have ended, not what Joss gave us after the oh so wonderful skipping of the important process...

reading the reactions on the thread about if Tara rehearsed her speech or not, i just imagine her walking down a street to see Willow...

"She's nervous, fumbling with her fingers while having lines she wants to say rushing through her head. She tries to make sence of them and make them sound right, whispering to herself and her hands shaking. She just about gets it together and shes at the house. With a deep breath she walks in and start to churn out what she had been nervously thinking about moments before, but seeing Willow there makes everything stop. Her mind goes blank with her arguements and all she wants is Willow. So she asks for her...'Can you just be kissing me now?'"

:blush Ahhhh i love my imagination sometimes...

So i guess in a way I think she did rehearse her speech. But i think when she got there she just threw it out of the window and said 'screw this' and followed her :love . Either way it was such a powerful speech and Aly and Amber did such a good job in that scene :)

*grins* I don't even have to watch the scene anymore. I can close my eyes and see it, that's how many times I've watched it.

I'm going to just add my agreement to the "rehearsedish because she's told herself all of it so often, but it went to crap when she saw Willow" theorem.

I hear you on the DVD front. When I first bought the DVD I hadn't actually seen it yet (see I started renting 1-3 but by the time I got to 4 decided "oh hell" and started buying them), and then there was that scene my heart just jumped into my throat :x and I might have even started crying and I think I rewound that seen at least 10 times and had the speech memorized before the disk ever left the player. Of course now I've over played the disk and it starts to act wonky.....
