I have my copy!

(and btw--damn but those full color books cost!)

This is a very fun book to read! The system seems pretty simple--a big plus. I do think there's one little change I'd make--using 2d5 instead of 1d10 (to capture the "feel" of dice rather than a die).

And I've already come up with what I think'd be a great background for original characters (or familiar ones a little further down the road)--a town in Northern Virginia with plenty reason for weirdness without a hellmouth. Heh heh heh

Now all I need is players...

Ok this is not from Eden, or really have anything to do with the official Buffy Game, but you can use these with it.

I got these pics from a friend and lurker here. He comissioned this company to make "Tara" lead minatures for RPGs.

Now for those off you who may not know. Lead minatures are typically 25 mm and they are used in your RPG game. Usually to see where your character is in relationship to others or to monsters.

Here is the "Willow" and "Tara" ones.

and the girls with "Buffy"

"Willow" has got her laptop, both her and "Tara" have spell books.

Here is "Tara" before and after painting.

So yes if you get these you would need to paint them yourself or do what I do, pay someone an awful lot of money to do it for you.

And just to be fair. "Giles" and "Buffy".

Now. If any one wants any of these (and there are others as well, but who cares about Spike really) just send me an email web.warlock@attbi.com"> web.warlock@attbi.com. I am trying to work out a deal with the company.

I plan on getting some soon myself.

Ok, big no no here I know. Double posting, but these two are so different.

Ok. Gen Con UK is over and the "Buffy" game was huge.

So anyway they were running a demo and to show off how easy you can adapt the game to anything there were two players playing Xena and Gabrielle.

Well at the start of the adventure Xena beheads Spike!

I thought you all might like to see that.

More Stuff

Postby WebWarlock » Wed Sep 11, 2002 10:12 am

Thanks for the link to the Yahoo Group Zahir.

There is an official Ezboard for The Buffy RPG at pub51.ezboard.com/fedenst...oardsfrm12 .

That is for RPG related topic only, not a general Buffy board.

I also updated my Willow and Tara stats for World of Darkness: Sorcerer. You can see them at www.xtreme-gaming.com/theotherside/wt_stats_wod.php.

So if you play any of the World of Darkness games (Mage, Vampire, Werewolf, Mummy) well now Willow and Tara are alive and well in those worlds as well.

I've seen a sample of the "Buffy" fig up close, and it's not too bad. These figs seem to be "true" 25's, not like the larger "heroic scale" figures made by Games Workshop, etc. However, GW did make the nice terrain piece they're photographed against - it's a small cemetary, complete with surroundings walls, sarcophagi, crypt and open graves.

Just wanted to mention right now I'm running a couple of online games (well, running one and starting up another).

Buffy By Gaslight sends the mid-season four Scoobies back to 1888 London to try and stop Jack the Ripper. On the player's insistence, I managed to find someone who put Willow in a tux (male impersonators being a big thing in Victorian London). That is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BuffyByGaslight

My second one is with an all-original cast (including a lesbian wicca, hmmmmm) set in the fictional town of Crescent Bay. You can check it out at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CrescentBay

OMG, I found a reference to the Labyrinth in the descriptions of the BTVS seasons. I was using the section of the book to help some kids who aren't so good with reading, and he stumbled on it, saying wait a sec, that's a typo, and I read it, and went, no, that's a reference to a movie.

Voodoo that you do :)

I'm 100 pages into the book (considering my classload and workload, that's pretty impressive). The one thing is, I could use more examples of how to determine stats and rolling etc. Like "roll a D10, add Dexterity and any bonuses/modifiers", and then you compare the number to 9? Once you've added all these numbers, is it even possible to have a score below 9? Especially if you have a high attribute score?

WHY can't it just be rock, paper, scissors? Is that too much to ask?

Re: rpg

Postby WebWarlock » Wed Sep 11, 2002 10:14 pm

Because dice are fun! ;)

Actually some skills can have negative modifiers and the Director can even impose a penalty of up to -5 in some cases.

Yes most of the time you will get that 9, but lots of things can still get in your way.

Plus high rolls still get higher success levels. Try getting a SL of 8 sometime! That is a roll of 28 on a 10 sided die!

Not as much calculating as say GURPS or even d20, but still better than flipping a coin.

There are optional Tarot rules (use Tarot cards instead of dice) or even taking a "5" where you don't roll at all.

Personally, I try to avoid dice rolls as much as possible. But that's mostly because I had really bad experiences back when D&D was new and all the GMs I knew just killed the PCs over and over and over.

Just picked up a copy of the RPG (It has been a long time since I played or ran a RPG. Maybe 8 years ago at university) and I must admit that I was impressed by the production values and the quality of the product though I have not had time to read it fully.

Congratulations Tim on the part that you played in this.

As I have told Tim - I thought this was a very impressive addition to the Buffyverse. It is not only a fun read outside a person desires to the play the game but I found the game format fairly simple for someone who has been away from it for a time.

I know everyone is in different timezones etc. but would there be any interest in perhaps playing a round on-line sometime.

A kind of kitten gathering RPG game. Maybe we could even get Tim to director a version of Phoenix?

I'd love that.

I have been writting "TDaTP" just for the Kittens. As I plan to do any future writting I'll do.

I am very happy that people are pleased with the game.

I just got my own full-copy the other day (been working out of a B/W printout since March).

It does look good! And I have not counted yet, but I swear there are more pictures of Willow than Buffy in this!

Forget Season Sux. Forget Season Severed. Grab this book, a couple of 10 sided dice, and your favorite Pens fic and make Willow and Tara live again!

And this time, you control what is going on.

For the record, I'm getting ready to start a game online. All original characters in one of those fictional small towns (like Twin Peaks, Castle Rock, Arkham, Sunnydale, etc.) that seems to be a magnet for supernatural hooptiness.

Interestingly, one player insists on playing a red-haired lesbian wicca.

Just as an aside to people. If you are looking for a copy of the Limited Edition of the Buffy RPG core rulebook and happen to run across it, don't wait and grab it while you can. You cannot seem to order it any more from the manufacturers; a friend who runs an online games store tried and couldn't.

Glad I got mine already...

Okay, right now my online game has a full slate of characters (or at least as many as I can keep track of at my advanced age). So auditions have closed. However, I've yet to be in a game where someone hasn't dropped out, so if folks want to lurk and maybe submit a character later (in and when there's an opening) you are more than welcome to do so. Think of it as an intereactive bit of fanfic.

Thanks for your interest! It means a lot! Really.

Someone at work scoffed at my purchase of the Buffy RPG rulebook. He said that the argument "Eden has already paid M.E.'s licensing fee, so none of my money is going to M.E." is merest sophistry. He said that I'm just re-imbursing Eden for paying the licensing fee in the first place.

I replied that this argument is not merely sophistry, it may even be casuistry. In either case, it's probably Jesuitical. I am not the originator of this argument; I could've blamed Tim, but why do that, eh?

I just like the fact that my hard-earned (and mightily devalued) dollars are not going directly into M.E.'s purse. Anyways, with all the books selling, I'm hoping Eden is making pure profit from gamer's curent purchases.

New Release

Postby WebWarlock » Fri Nov 08, 2002 10:06 am

Hey, just got some new information on the latest release for the game.

Quote:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Roleplaying Game—Director’s Screen.

Buffy: “Are you mad at me?”

Riley: “I’m plotting your death… in a happy way.”

5.2 Real Me

As the Director for Eden Studio’s popular and visually stunning Buffy the Vampire Slayer Roleplaying Game, your job is to plot and plan exciting adventures pitting the Slayer and her friends against ever more fiendish forces of darkness. The last thing you need are those nosy do-gooders hitting the wrong books . . . yours!

With the Director’s Screen, released this week for the Buffy RPG, you get a glorious, full-color four-paneled display covered with cool Buffy images and designs. That gives your players an eyeful, while you keep the action fast and furious using the charts and tables handily printed on the other side. And the whole pretty package can be set up in front of you to keep those advantage-seeking players from your carefully plotted plots!

Included with the Screen is a handy 56-page booklet. The first section is filled with game-running and season-mastering tips and ideas to help every Director create a ratings-busting series. Whether you are a novice or a veteran roleplayer, this stuff will help you become the storymaster with the mostest in no time. The rest of the booklet presents three interrelated, ready-to-run Episodes to pit against your gang of white hats. That’s right, it’s a plug-and-play addition. Are you ready to rock!

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Director’s Screen is the first supplement for the critically acclaimed Buffy roleplaying game and is written by Paul Chapman.

For more information about the official Buffy the Vampire Slayer Roleplaying Game, visit www.btvsrpg.com.

I have also been told to pass along a big THANKS. There has been a lot of great feedback and praise coming from here and it has been heard and noted.

Hi Guys,

you've probably seen it by now but Eden have posted the cover of their magic box supplement on their site and its got Willow, Tara & Giles on the cover (OK so only W's in colour). Is it just me or are seasons sux and severed becoming increasingly irrelevant to kittens, gamers and the like?

It looks really good, & Tara's the 2nd biggest pic, after Willow *yay*

And it's great (& interesting) to note that there is NO Spike on the front, as he's the most popular bad good-guy *shrug*. The 'bad guys' look like (on my small screen anyway) Gwendoline Post (S2) & Pat from Dead Man's Party (S3).

The Inside Scoop: The BtVS RPG Slayer's Handbook

Postby WebWarlock » Fri Jan 24, 2003 2:08 pm

Official Announcement:

Buffy: Wait. Handbook? What handbook? How come I don't have a handbook?

Willow: Is there a T-shirt, too? 'Cause that would be cool . . .

—2.10, What's My Line? - Part Two

Just found out you're the Slayer, and feeling a bit overwhelmed? Never fear, it's all right here in Technicolor goodness: the dos, the don'ts, the whys, the wherefores, even a few what's whats. There's also some notes from the Slayers' diaries, just in case you don't hail from Sunnydale.

Study up—it's your neck on the line (literally)!

The Slayer's Handbook is the first major supplement for the critically acclaimed Buffy the Vampire Slayer roleplaying game. Written by BtVS RPG scribe and game guru CJ Carella, this is another gorgeously designed hardcover rulebook with more goodies than you can shake a stake at. Within its 160 full-color pages of glossy goodness you will find:

* Background on being a Slayer, tales of the Slayers and advice for Directors on using Slayers in their games. Not only does this include information on just what it’s like to be a Slayer, but it also details other Slayers such as “The First Slayer” and everyone’s favorite rogue—Faith.

* New character creation ideas, qualities and drawbacks, and a bevy of additional character archetypes, including the Former Runaway Slayer and the Victorian Watcher (see sample pics at www.btvsrpg.com/6002.htm).

* An extended arsenal of weapons and techniques for taking down the Big Bads—when “No Weapon Forged” will do . . . including equipment from different eras: pulp 20s-30s, Wild West, cyberpunk and more.

* Guidelines for alternative settings in a Slayer-oriented game, including different places, times and histories.

* Three ready-to-play mini-settings for Slayers of all shapes and sizes, complete with Supporting Cast, Big Bads and episode ideas.

* A complete Episode continuing the Djinn plotline begun in the BTVS corebook.

The Slayer’s Handbook for the official Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG is out now, available from your local game or bookstore, or direct from Eden Studios.

For more information on the goodness that is the Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG, check out www.btvsrpg.com. For more on Eden, head over to www.edenstudios.net

Unofficial Kitten-angle:

Ok the next Buffy-RPG book is out. Why should you care?

Well, I was a co-author, so that is something.

And this was one of the first books that included play-testers recruited from the Kitten Board (something NO other Buffy-based board can claim).

Kirk and I ran the very first SIT through her paces when these pages were still just paragraphs. The first SIT ever used? Sennen from the Willow & Tara based fic “Coming Up Roses”. Sadly Sen is not in the book, but she did help me when I was writing up Kendra’s SIT stats.

Plus it has some great Faith stuff in it, so that can’t be all bad! ;)

So if you are enjoying the game, this is a great addition. I used it for my alternate-Season 6 in which Buffy never came back and they had to get Faith out of the slammer to clean up the mess. Much more satisfying end than that other season 6 had.

More stuff, Origins and Magic Box.

Postby WebWarlock » Wed Apr 09, 2003 6:10 am

Ok, since this is now in the "Witches and Vixens" forum, I'll shoot to make this more Willow&Tara centric than before.

Which won't be a problem with the new Magic Box book coming out. I am working on exactly how much from that book I can post here, but I have seen the pre-print copy. Tara comes off looking like a Goddess in this book and she and Willow are constantly refered to as "soulmates".

Eden is also up for some awards, I personally think it would be nice for them to get some recognition. Your first round of voting put them into these finals.

Eden products have been nominated for five different Origins Awards, the Academy Awards of gaming, including the coveted “Game of the Year.” The category nominations and products are:

Game of the Year: Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG

Best Roleplaying Game: Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG

Best Game-Related Fiction Long Form: Book of More Flesh (All Flesh Must Be Eaten Anthology)

Best Game-Related Fiction Short Form: Ethical Treatment of Meat (from Book of More Flesh)

Best Graphic Design of a Book Format Product (this item can only be voted on by members of the Academy and does not appear on the online public ballot): Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG

The actual winners of the Origins Awards are decided by public voting. So please go online at www.aagad.org/originsawards/ and vote for your favorite games.

Remember, this supports Eden, not Joss/ME. These guys have shown their Willow/Tara love in the past and will continue to do so.

As soon as I can I will get those Willow and Tara sections of the 'Magic Box' book posted.

Quote:

Birds gotta fly, fish gotta swim, and a Slayer's gotta have something to slay. Fortunately for her, there's no shortage of vamps, demons, nasties, and Big Bads wandering around out there. And when the latté hits the fan, knowing an Acathla from a Gorch can save the world. The keys to combating these charmless creatures of nightmare are all here, in vivid detail.

Hey, nobody said living on the Hellmouth was going to be all sunshine and stylish garb!

The Monster Smackdown is the latest hardcover supplement for the official Buffy the Vampire Slayer roleplaying game. In glossy full color glory, you’ll find an overview covering the nature and origins of the Buffyverse, hellmouths, and hell dimensions, including some never before seen samples. You’ll also get a complete rundown on vampires, including their powers, vulnerabilities, morality, nature, and hangouts; a similar treatment for demons, with specifics on many recognizable demonic races; details on non-vamp undead, primals, human villains, and various other critters that populate the Buffyverse, from ghosts to animated ventriloquist dummies! With this info, you’ll know everything that the head-boy at the Watcher’s Academy knows, and more. Check out a few examples of some of these (just the stats, ma’am), over at www.btvsrpg.com/monsterpreview.pdf

The Smackdown also provides full background and specifics on Buffy's major villains, unique demons, hellgoddesses, and real bad critters, including a detailed revisit of all the seasonal Big Bads. All of the creatures Buffy faces in the first six seasons of the show are covered here, ready to throw at our unsuspecting heroes!

Still not enough bad guys? Worry not—we also include rules, guidelines, and ideas for creating your own monsters true to the spirit of the Buffyverse, including a list of mix-and-match monster powers. Some of which are even suitable for Cast Members! You can see for yourself—the Questing Troll character preview can be found at www.btvsrpg.com/questingtroll.pdf

Finally, the book closes with a complete Episode featuring a major turning point in the Djinn Season arch (begun in the BtVS RPG Corebook and continued in the BtVS RPG Director’s Screen and Slayer’s Handbook).

Monster Smackdown is available now as both a regular and stylish limited edition, why not get one of each?

Better yet, you could win a copy of Monster Smackdown. How you ask?

@ N-Zone Magazine and Eden Studios are giving away a copy of the brand-new Buffy the Vampire Slayer Monster Smackdown RPG supplement book! One (1) @ N-Zone Backstage subscriber will win the Buffy RPG Grand Prize, a copy of the newly published supplement book, Monster Smackdown.

One (1) Runner-up will win (1) one BtVS RPG Director's Screen from Eden Studios. For more details, head on over to www.atnzone.com/tvzone/

For more information about the Official Buffy the Vampire Slayer Roleplaying Game, check out www.btvsrpg.com, and for more information about Eden Studios and their range of exciting games, head on over to www.edenstudios.net

Ok, why now, as a Kitten should you care about this?

Well. There were three Kittens working on this book, so we are still the only posting board represented in the Buffy RPG book line.

Plus it has the stats and pictures of Vampire Willow. Wanna know if Vamp Willow could kick Spike's bleach blond ass? Well here it is. (she can btw.)

Besides, this book remembers that you are supposed to kill vampires.
