Hannigan Shenanigans
Buffy star on orgasms and Meg Ryan
08/01/2004
It isn’t often that you get an American TV star comparing her orgasm to that of a Hollywood film actress, but in the zany world of showbusiness that’s what happened when Buffy star Alyson Hannigan came to town this week. Hannigan was holding a press conference with fellow ’actor’ Luke Perry to promote the duo’s appearance in the stage show of When Harry Met Sally when she was asked how she would approach that scene.
Admitting she had already rehearsed Ryan’s infamous orgasm scene in unsuspecting delis back home in America, Hannigan was quizzed as to whether her performance would contain any surprises. ’I haven’t really thought about it,’ she told the assembled hacks. ’Meg Ryan is a very different person from what I am. I imagine our orgasms would be slightly different.’
Now there’s a mental image to occupy the male portion of our readership this afternoon.

Tara: Willow, you are using too much magick. What do you want me to do, sit back and keep my mouth shut?
Willow: Well that'd be a good start.
Tara: (Shocked) If I didn''t love you so damn much I would!

ALYSON HANNIGAN - Sally
In a profession where young actors are a 'dime a dozen' and interchangeable with each other, it is difficult to find a performer who stands uniquely on their own. Alyson Hannigan is one of the few exceptions. A veteran performer who has been acting since age four, Alyson possesses down-to-earth individuality, lively charm, a quirky sense of humor and straight forward intelligence.
Alyson starred in Universal comedy hit AMERICAN WEDDING this past summer which is now out on DVD. She revised her role as "Michelle," the "band geek" from the previous two hit AMERICAN PIE films.
Alyson also recently completed her role on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. In this cult television show, Alyson portrayed 'Willow Rosenberg,' Buffy's best friend and confidante, with dry, comedic wit. She describes her TV alter-ego as "a computer expert who is smart, funny, cool and a really good friend."
She was also seen appearing in the feature film DEAD MAN ON CAMPUS (MTV/PARAMOUNT) opposite Tom Everett Scott. In the film she portrays 'Lucy,' a naive and painfully sheltered college freshman.
Born in Washington D.C., Alyson moved to Atlanta at age two. She began her career in Atlanta doing commercials, working steadily in national spots for companies like McDonald's, Six Flags Amusement Parks and Oreo Cookies. At age 11, she moved to Los Angeles with the hopes of getting into television and film.
Her breakthrough role came at age 13 when she was cast as Dan Aykroyd's misunderstood daughter in the feature film, MY STEPMOTHER IS AN ALIEN. She went on to guest star on a number of popular television shows, including PICKET FENCES, ROSEANNE, and TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL. She was a recurring guest star on the series ALMOST HOME and a series regular on FREE SPIRIT. she co-starred in two HBO productions: SWITCHED AT BIRTH and BOB SAGET, IN DREAM STATE, as well as MOW'S for ABC and CBS.
In her free time (of which there is little with her hectic workload), Alyson enjoys an active life. "I've always been a big tomboy," she quips. She loves soccer, 'surfing the web' and practicing kick boxing. During her hiatus, she took classes in karate and ballet. She also devotes a great deal of time to her two dogs and five cats. But mostly, Alyson says, "I do laundry... I'm always trying to catch up."
As for the future, Alyson hopes to continue performing. "Acting is the only thing I've ever known. It's what I've always wanted to do." She also hopes to buy a really big washing machine."

Perry Meets Hannigan in London’s When Harry Met Sally, Beginning Feb. 10
By Robert Simonson
and James Inverne
10 Feb 2004
Luke Perry is Harry and Alyson Hannigan is Sally in a new stage version of Rob Reiner’s 1989 movie When Harry Met Sally, set will open at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket on Feb 20, after previews from Feb.10.
The show is directed by Loveday Ingram and produced by James Tod, with music by current "cool" jazz star Jamie Cullum and his brother Ben.
Hannigan is arguably a more bankable name than Perry these days, with her star-making turns in TV’s "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and the "American Pie" big-screen franchise. (Interestingly, with Anthony Head in rep at the Savoy it only needs Sarah Michelle Gellar to land a West End role for all three "Buffy" leads to "stake" their theatreland claims in 2004). When Harry Met Sally sees the 29-year-old actress moving away from adolescent roles.
Perry, of course, is known to television viewers worldwide for his role as Dylan in "Beverly Hill 90210."
The film "When Harry Met Sally" was a surprise hit when it premiered in 1989, and helped establish the careers of many of the artists involved, including Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, who thereafter were thought of as viable romantic leads; screenwriter Nora Ephron, who soon after graduated to the position of director; and Harry Connick, Jr., who scored the hit soundtrack spawned by the movie.
Spike to Giles:
Oh, poor Watcher. Did your life pass before your eyes? Cuppa tea, cuppa tea, almost got shagged, cuppa tea?
