As this is to stand as a testament to the wonder that is Amber, I beg the reader to not only accept what is written as wonder, but to also acknowledge the fact that the author, this day 1) had not had any sleep the night before, and little the night before that, 2) was suffering highly from cramping in her girly bits and 3) had bloody blisters (yes, literally) all over her feet. In short, she was in hell.
Except that she was to see Amber, and so everything was worth it.
My day started slowly as my ride overslept, and I took the time to write a note to Amber. I discussed how happy the kittens were to have seen the interview with her, how great it is that Chance is being released on DVD, and how amazing it is that not only does she inspire girls through television, but she also works with them to achieve their dreams through projects like the young playwright's project.
The letter was on funny Winnie the Pooh stationary because it's the only kind I had in my room. It was riddled with smiley faces, for which I can only blame this board.
I got there in time to see the first signing finishing. I watched for a while, happy to just see her interacting so nicely with the fans. Eventually I ran off in search for something for her to sign. I had meant to bring my journal, where I have a nice sketch that I've yet to scan for Pens. . . It's the Pancakes in Bellies kiss, but I've edited it so that their faces (foreheads) and hair form a heart. But I couldn't find my journal.
I wound up purchasing quite a few trading cards and having one of the dealers tease me about having a crush on a certain lady. Um, duh. Then he tried to hand me his book with cards from seasons one through three. No thanks.
I'm happy with the cards - the general Tara one from S6, the flaming O scene, and (these are the amazingly beautiful ones) the green embossed Love Bites Back card (with my favorite W/T quote on the back), Tara's "Protectors of the Key" card (was this a special card? Because it seems like it) and the Connections card of my favorite W/T scene ever - the swirly sparkles on the bridge. (smile)
Then we went and got autograph permission slips (oh, school system) and waited around until we were allowed to form the line. We did that and waited (she was a couple of minutes late) until Amber came out with Danielle. They hugged the folks backstage (a term I use loosely) and Amber sat down, chatted with some Inkworks folks. I was busy at this point figuring out who Danielle was, and called her over to tell her much I like the Chance poster, which I think made her really happy. Which made me happy.
A girl who hadn't been able to get a permission slip called Amber over, who was sweet enough to pose with her anyway. She was then berated by the mean Inkworks lady and got to work.
We waited in line and there was an adorable girl who walked by and went "OH MY GOD, IT'S TARA!" She wandered away in a daze and repeated the sentiment again on the other side. The next time I saw her, she had somehow found a permission slip and was crying at the back of the line.
I was waiting antsily, taking my cards out of their cases. My friend Sarah went first and got her things signed (actually, a postcard [that were provided by Inkworks, the pose in the blue and silver shirt and blue jacket] for her friend and a postcard for me, because she's a sweetie) and chatted a bit. While she was finishing, the (meanish) Inkworks lady from earlier (the one who had been mean) lost track of her attention somehow. So I waited for her to come back to earth and take my ticket, and Amber tried to coax me past her without waiting for her. I don't think she liked her so much, either.
I gave Amber my note and thanked her again for the sweet interview. I introduced myself as the con's official Kitten rep, since I hadn't seen anyone else say they were coming (. . .sorry, Iamyouknowyours! . . . and also because I was wearing a big fuzzy kitty hat with my Kitten pin on it) and she was happy. She signed my sparkly card for me and the Flaming O card for my girlfriend, and then my friend Sarah pulled me into a picture (on her friend's digital camera, since I was a dunce and forgot mine). She was cheerful about us crowding her; prolly just happy I wasn't after her arse. (grin)
As we left, my friend Sarah mentioned Amber's shirt as relating to her vegetarianism (she had a shirt with a cute pig, with the "friends not food" bit, which made us both happy since we're not large with the omnivore). Amber explained, "Yeah, nothing with a face. And no leather!" as we left.
Cute. So much happy. I started shaking as I left the convention hall, clutching my cards carefully to slip them back in their cases.
Sorry if it was too long. (grin) It was just so nice.
