Hello all,
First, I apologize about the not posting of the food reports last night. There was an incident at Wally world, and I had to be brought home and tucked in. Really. Sorry.
I got sent home today on an evacuation notice from my Health Dept job, so no work tomorrow either. If yall thought it was raining in B'ham, you should turn on the weather channel and look at MS.
If anybody hears from Anne-Marie and Rachel please let me know. I left them in Biloxi with strict instructions not to go to New Orleans if the Hurricane came this way. I'm very protective of my kitten friends and want to make sure everybody makes it home.
Here's my version of events: (no pics yet, the good photo place is closed on account of Hattiesburg about to float away)
Friday: Went to Jxn first, poptarts, and crangrape for brekkies. Rooted for food at my mom's on the way out of town, stole the last poptarts, and snuck out. The drive was easier than I thought, until actually in B'ham. Let's see, there were nanners in the car...oh, had a Subway sammich for lunch, and bought Nilla wafers and Skittles and juice. Cause when you need energy,Skittles and TMBGiants will get you there

. Got to B'ham (in the rain, hmm, would you say there was a rain theme this weekend?) and WTF is up with all the one way streets?! Keep in mind I have to stick my arm out the window and be all 'getto-signal Laney' every time I make a turn. I was so happy to find the Redmont, I had this fear of driving around forever on these one way streets.
Got up to the room and met Anne-Marie and Rachel, after being stuck on the elevator. I mean, you just couldn't be stuck in an elevator with nicer people, but hey, it's still being stuck on an elevator. I was the one who finally opened the box and yelled for the Redmont staff to get us out. The best line? "Which elevator are ya'll in? We're in the one that isn't moving. (Pause) Because it's STUCK!" You couldn't ask for nicer roomates. I mean, hey, British Kittens, how cool is that? They let me chill for a bit and then we went to eat dinner at... yes, the famous Chez Lou Lou. Keep in mind that I am totally amazed by the fact of hills, actual mountain type structures and curves. The whole cab ride I was all " Wow, ya'll, this is neat, we ain't got no hill and such in Miss." and other goober expressions. The driver finally found CLL and oh, yeah there was a Starbucks. I was impressed even further, living in a 0 Starbucks town. We ate outside on a wobbly table. (It was wobbly because it was over a sewer grate. The whole meal I was all a wiggins about something coming out of that grate. Too many horror movies as a kid? Nah!) I had a yummy tossed green salad with a strange but oddly pleasing vinagrette. And this was a real salad with all different kinds of leaves in it, not that crap brown at the edges icky salad. Then there was a wheat penne pasta with basil and pesto. Rachel had all these dift kinds of bread with different spreads. They were good too. To drink? What are yall implying? I was the picture of sober responsibility. I was like, the nun of alcohol (well, Friday anyway

. Just water. I had never heard of the other stuff on the list and I was so excited from the fact of actually being there and the severe amount of Skittles, that there was no need for extra sugar. We got back to the room where Anne-Marie and Rachel helped me sneak in my sleeping bag and we made a little nest for me to sleep. I kept waking up during the night thinking that it must be raining really hard.........
Saturday: I jump out of my nest (a first)and am raring to go eat breakfast or walk around. I'm out the door and off to the lobby. Hmm. Wow, it must really be raining I says to myself as I push the down button 1,000 times. Ok, remember in 'the Shining' with the elevators? Replace blood with water. It was raining. In the elevator. So, I took the stairs. Cause it's not supposed to rain in elevators. That just can't be good. Did anybody else start to feel like you were in some monster's intestine after running up and down those staris a couple of times? (oh wait, that was later, there may have been alcohol involved.)We ended up eating at the Lyrics place across from the Alabama. Hmm. I had an egg sammich and hash browns,Rachel had something with bacon. The Brit Kits were amused by the hash browns and the application of katsup to them. We had to take pics in the faux 50's atmosphere.
More later, as I am very pooped. I'm loving all the stories everybody is posting.
Hey! Just got a call from Anne-Marie and Rachel, they are back in B'ham and trying to decide about going to Memphis. I'm so glad they are not in New Orleans! I'll be a crazy posting fool tomorrow because of no work. (Unless of course we lose our power, then it would be kind of pointless. And sad.) Laney

"I don't need to drink too much, 'cause I may end up sitting in somebody's lap and purring."
