A Dedication For A Friend: You will not be forgotten

Postby Oracle Of Magic » Mon May 24, 2004 10:07 pm

Hi Fellow Kittens,

This is my second attempt at something original. Unlike my last posting, this is of a more serious nature. Tonight my little sister suffered a loss. She found out that someone she knew died last night, he was only 16. As I was talking to her, a dedication started to form in my head. I wanted to write something, to put down my feelings on paper. To give my sister something she could take to school and place on her friend's memorial. This is what I wrote.

***************************************

This is dedicated to Adam, and to all those who have died young. You’re lives were cut short in so many ways. You had just started to explore life, only to have it end.

This alone is tragic enough, to die so young. You never got to experience all the things life has to offer. The joys, and the pains. The small joys, the first day of being a senior in HS, going to the prom, graduating, starting college, falling in love, traveling, making a name for yourself, making your dreams come true.

Cynics might say you just avoided heartache and pain, I think that is only their way of dealing with the loss. Because one of the other things that makes your deaths so tragic, is that you left friends and family behind. People who love and care about you, there is a hole left in their life.

They walk into class, and expect to see you there, just like always. Just as you expected to walk into the very same room, before your time on earth was cut short. You touched many lives, some of which you never even knew were there. But you touched them non the less.

It might have been as simple as a wave in the hallways between classes, a “hi” in the lunch line, but you will be remembered. That is my promise to you, that you will not be forgotten. You have reminded us, though you never planned to, that life is short, and we must live each moment to the best of our ability.

After something like this happens, everyone says things about how you are in a better place, that it happened for a reason. These phrases are clichéd, and don’t really help, but they are true. And in time, they will sink in, and reassure us.

I know that somewhere you are looking down on us, guiding us, an ever present reminder of how precious life is. Your physical time was short lived, but you will live forever in our hearts. We will carry round the memories of you in our hearts, and in this way, you will be with us always.

Sarah-

Already gave you my thoughts, just wanted to say again. This is a wonderful thing for you to do for your friend, and hopefully it will cause people to stop, think, and remember.

Sounds cliche-ish, but it is a shame that these things happen. However, just because they do doesn't mean they should be forgotten.

Sarah--

This is an excellent, moving, touching piece of writing, and I sincerely thank you for sharing it.

Tell your friend she is very fortunate to have someone as caring and generous as you in her life.

It saddens me to read about things like this, but at the same time, it fills me with pride that there are people around that care enough to do something like this for someone else.

Everyone must leave us at one point in time. I just wish it would always be when it's their time. My deep condolances to everyone who knew Adam. I hope I never have to learn what you are feeling right now.

Sarah, that was beautiful.

Considering I know how it is to lose someone who's young, I agree with you totally.

You don't realize many things till you see someone die young. It makes you live your life to the fullest, and I definetely do so.

It forces you to take chances, fall in love...Do many things you wouldn't do unless you were reminded that your time here on earth is short.

That piece was a reminder that I still must continue to live my life to the fullest...

Because one never knows what tomorrow brings.

Thank you so much for sharing that.

(It also made my cry a bit, but you didn't hear that from me.)

Woah.

I remember when my Grandma died last October, right before my birthday. I didnt cry at all. I didnt know her. And those facts didnt hit me until the day before our school Christmas Play.

This is really good. I wish I could've done something like it for my Grandma.

Sincerely,

BWR

My new friend,

The second I started to read this, haven't not read the title but just jumping right in, I thought about myself, how selfish is that.

This is truly beautifully written and to have me relate to something like this, that has nothing to do with anything in my life is a rare gift.

I don't know why you asked me to read this but I do know I feel touched and moved by it and thank you for letting me share in this dedication.

The pain of premature death is hard to curve but what you have written seems to create a foundation to grow from. Well done.
