The Dutch finale will start this saturday and there is one guy I absolutely totally utterly and completely can´t stand so he will probably survive all the women who are really really really good this year, like last year´s female candidates. I fear we will get another guy winning this year. Ok so it´s not the US idols but I had to get it off my chest. I hate it when they go for looks and fake coolness instead of quality.

There were no performances which really stood out for me as being good last night. And Lisa .. well, she certainly looks like a star, but she can't sing like one. I liked the Hawaiian girl, though - not sure of her name - and the red-headed guy. So I will be rooting for them to get through.

I do not like that boring red headed boy. I worry when teen girls overwhelm the vote. I look forward to the wild card show!

I think technically the judges still can. All the contestants will sing and the audience will pick one. Then the judges can bring back anyone, I don't think they will though :(

After last night...

Postby tyche » Wed Mar 10, 2004 1:09 pm

I am definitely rooting for pen salesman guy. (Though I wish he would get a decent haircut.) His performance of that Elvis song was entertaining, though he really shouldn't try to dance. I'll also be rooting for the girl who sang 'I Will Survive', because she managed to stamp her own personality on a really well-known song.

I was secretly hoping that they would bring back Scooter Girl, but so far they haven't...

Paula? Simon? Hello?

*knocks* America?

Did you see Suzy? Did you hear her?!?

Then what is she doing going home?

*grumbles bitterly*

I'm sooo happy for Jennifer! Yay.

It was nice to see Ruuuuuuuben again. Heh, I didn't like his song, but I always, always wish him the best.

Yeah, Suzy should definitely have got through to the final 12. Personally, I don't think Leah is that great a singer, so I'm not quite sure why they picked her. And George can certainly sing, but he really doesn't seem to have much personality.

I'm happy that John (pen salesman guy) got through, because I think he's cute, and he picked a good song. And is it just me, or did all the female contestants this week (Suzy's outfit on Tuesday excepted) fail to look in the mirror before going on stage? Tuesday's ep was one unflattering fashion disaster after another as far as the women were concerned.

:lol I thought his hair looked fluffier. At first I thought he was just letting it grow and was combing it differently or something. But I paused it and scrutinized it and you can see, with the light behind him like it was, that some of that "hair" is a different color than the rest. Redder. Is that a weave thing or something? I don't really care, it just amuses me when men think they can show up with a lot more hair all of a sudden and no one will notice.

So how does it work now? The 12, they all sing and America votes and the person with the least votes goes home?

Fantasia! :heart

Still missing Scooter Girl, though. :(

Right Holley, that's exactly the way it works. Usually they have some guest judge and they sing their type of song or they have a theme night. So exciting!

Top 12

Postby Cicca » Tue Mar 16, 2004 11:54 pm

I'm having a hard time deciding who I'd like to see at the very end. Bitchily enough, I'll be pleased if Leah is gone tomorrow night. I just don't see it! Ok, I don't HEAR it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how some of these people develop as singers. Latoya's already there.

I have to agree best top 12 in 3 seasons. I think leah needs to go. My girl Camile was still too nervous but I hope she sticks around.

Matt needs to go and Leah and JPL, And John. ugh.

I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed most of the performances, George did Ottis justice, sweet. I loved everyone pretty much, fantasia, jennifer, and jasmine. I liked Latoya but i felt she was trying to hard, it wasn't flowing.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by JPL tonight. He makes me laugh, but I usually don't think much of his singing. He surprised me tonight. I think he might even have some potential. John Stevens... I'd like him to keep singing and studying and maybe do some cool jazz album down the road. His voice just doesn't seem suited to anything else. Maybe he'll surprise me.

it happened. i've bought into the whole american idol craze and all i have to say is...

oh. my. god.

i have the biggest crush on camile. i love her voice, she's really quite hot (my friend and i decided that she has this kinda sleepy look which is *so* cute), and she's half filipino. i'm definitely rooting for her.

i also like jasmine, fantasia, and diana. i really don't like any of the guys, save the pen salesman whom i find very charming.

one thing i noticed when looking at the contestants page on the AI website was that a lot of them are very young. were they this young in past years?! i always get so jealous of people who are infinitely more talented and younger/the same age as me.

I was not surprised that Leah got voted off. I think she had the weakest voice out of all the girls in the final.

I am rooting for the football player guy to go next. He annoys me even when he's not singing. And his stupid white hat .. ugh.

Re: re

Postby xita » Tue Mar 23, 2004 11:46 pm

Ok, i am making it detailed.

Diana - sounded shakey and off-key. Boring song.

George - wasn't feeling him tonight. he was good though.

fantasia - very good, i like her a whole lot better without the bouncing. I didn't like all the attitude that followed.

John S - I never liked him and this didn't change anything. Boring. Forgot the song lol, dude it's not that hard.

Camile - I am going to be really shallow. She's my girl. I like her voice cause it's different.

Jennifer Hudson - She's looking good. i love her and her performance but... the song sucked.

JPL - boot him please, I can't stand him. He was out of tune. Boring song.

Jasmine - She started too low and then the whole song kinda fell apart. She just doesn't have the maturity for this song maybe. The dress was distracting too.

Matt - He makes me sick. Boring song. I hate him.

Latoya- I didn't like the song but at least she didn't try to change a country song to match her style. So , I thought it was good, better than last week for her.

Amy - Thanks for sticking to the theme Amy. I loved the performance. It's the best I've seen her.

I like Camile too, but I didn't really like her song tonight. Not sure why. And Jasmine was sounding a bit strange too.

JPL... What was that?! Ouch.

I'm so glad that Amy did well tonight. She's a lot of fun and I want her to stay around for weeeeeeeeeeks!

Re: re

Postby maudmac » Wed Mar 24, 2004 6:32 am

Why do I always watch AI when it's too late to vote? I need to quit that.

Heh, it was the Nashville Star ep. Yay! (For anyone who cares, Nashville Star is on Saturdays nights on USA.)

I was wondering how these people would handle some country and, by and large, I wasn't impressed. The guys, they all put me to sleep every single week. And it's not because they are guys that I don't like them. They just don't bring it. Ruuuuuuben, he brought it. Of the guys, I like George the best, but that's mostly because of his personality. He's charming and he gives off really good vibes.

Anyway, my Fantasia-love is no secret and I was mighty impressed with her pulling off a Willie Nelson song so well. Heh, I like the bouncing because I read that as joyful enthusiasm, but I'm glad to see that her talent comes across and she can be soooo good without it.

This was the first performance of Amy's that I liked and the judges are probably right, she does seem more suited to that kind of music.

Simon's high if he thinks Jennifer's not a star already. She so is. I liked her performance, but she does have some issues, which I think she can easily fix. She has a tremendous, tremendous voice.

Camile, Diana, and Jasmine...eh, they were okay. I didn't feel it, though.

Now, La Toya, on the other hand...damn. She would have gotten my vote if I'd seen this ep sooner. Damn. That was an amazing performance. I loved it. It was like magic. I bought it as a uniquely La Toya performance, and I also bought it as an excellent country performance. She found the perfect balance between making it her own and staying true to the genre. It was a thing of beauty.

Also, about La Toya, I think she's been the most consistent of all of them. Consistently good, that is.

I, even though I hail from NC, simply have not been able to support Fantasia (sorry Maudmac), because of my overwhelming desire to see LaToya win. I mean girl can do it all. Not a single judge has ever been able to find anything wrong with her. I agree with you maudmac:

While I think there was a little bit of a stretch in Simon's analysis of Fantasia last night, her reaction to it just annoyed me. I just cannot seem to get behind her. Someting in her voice grates at me, much in the same way Macy Gray does. Dunno, just can't bear to vote for her.

As for Amy, she did the Dixie Chicks proud with that one. I have liked Amy since day one. I know she wont win, and she doesnt really deserve to, but i adore her personality.

Spose we'll just have to wait and see tonight. Also looking forward to this weeks video and production number. They cracked me up last week.

On a much less musical note, how about the clip of Paula kissing simon and calling him cuddles?!? My roomate and I both fell off the futon we laughed so hard.

Oh yeah, that video was from last year. They are so funny. I think that's why I started watching the first AI, I tuned in and saw Paula and Simon going at it. At this point it was very harsh. Apparently, Paula had to hire a writer to write her some witty come backs. Simon would totally resort to telling Paula, that she only had a couple of hits and that was a very long time ago. The good old days.

Last night

Postby tyche » Wed Mar 24, 2004 2:34 pm

Only caught the end of last night's episode, so the only complete performance I saw was Amy's, and she impressed me - Randy and Paula was right, it was her best performance so far. What was with all the hair straightening, btw? I almost didn't recognise Jennifer. And JPL looks much better with straight hair - hope he keeps it that way.

The only other performance which really stood out for me was the red-headed guy (whose name I always forget.) I think the rest of them weren't that comfortable with having to do country songs.

William Hung has an album coming out on April 6th. :shock YAY!!! I'll buy it! He has a music video coming out too for his version of, "She Bangs."

Isn't that the coolest thing? I'm all excited now. Anybody else going to buy his CD?

As for tonight. George Huff! Hot damn! He was fantastic. Jasmine was really great too. I even liked Fantasia until her last note of "yeahyeaaaaahyeahyayayayayayeaaaaaaaahyayayaya." Drives me absolutely crazy!

It's a little disturbing but I was kinda digging JPL tonight. No idea why. I should clarify that I mean while he was singing. After he was done, I forgot about him. Oops, sorry. ;)

Camile, I didn't forget :( I think she's gone tonight. Either her or John Stevens. Except that he's got an entire high school to vote for him.

Amy? Still love her. She's just adorable and has a great voice.

LaToya was great too.

I'm hoping George, LaToya, Amy and Jasmine all hang in for a while. I'd like to hear more of them. George was just so great tonight!

La Toya in the bottom three?!? :wtf Oh, hell no. Must vote more next week! That cannot happen again!

I almost felt sorry for John Stevens, he looked like he was going to puke or burst into tears or both. Whatever, he needs to go home, like, a month ago.

When everyone sang together, that was really good. I was surprised at how good they all were.

I wasn't really sorry to see Amy go, but there are a couple people I think should've gone before she did. I can only hope they'll go soon, but I fear at least one of them won't. And a big ol' bleh to that.

I'm rootin' for La Toya and Fantasia. I guess I'd be happy to see it come down to the two of them, but I would be all kinds of torn up about who I ought to vote for.
