The script indeed helps. Thanks for that Garfield.

I grew up watching the actual Trilogy. So at first I rejected all the hype around Episode I and II. But I was way too curious.. I wanted to know why Darth Vader had gotten dark in the first place. Episode III was a good movie. And the overall storyline is done pretty clever. But, yeah, you have to have a mind that is willing to think in flexible ways.

I agree with those who have said that Anakins fight with his doubts and his change could have been explored in more detail.

And is anyone else feeling slightly weird, imagining how young Anakin was when he first met Padme?

G'day all.

I just found this little tidbit about the TV series in the Star Wars universe that Lucas and co. are supposed to be doing, and I thought I'd throw up the link for any other Star War's-ophiles. ( Uh oh, I'm making up words again. )

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050919f.php

Sounds like it could be cool, especially if they retain some of the grittier aspects that the material they talk about ( ie Imperial Bounty Hunters ). Might even see Mara Jade perhaps, and I've always liked Boba Fett.

Bye,
Paul.

The Star Wars: Episode III DVD Features
Source: Fox Home Entertainment
September 26, 2005

After breaking box-office records and bringing the "Star Wars" saga to an astounding close, the biggest movie of the year gets even bigger when "Revenge of the Sith" debuts on DVD Nov. 1 in a two-disc set that brings remarkable new insight into the creation of this action-filled epic.

The Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith DVD promises an experience that will thrill "Star Wars" fans worldwide, says Jim Ward, the DVD's executive producer and Senior Vice President of Lucasfilm Ltd.

"The fact that 'Revenge of the Sith' was produced digitally means that the picture and sound on this DVD are truly extraordinary," Ward said. "On top of that, the hours of bonus material allow fans to explore the movie in a multitude of ways. For this final 'Star Wars' movie, we wanted to deliver a DVD that would capture the excitement and fun of 'Revenge of the Sith,' and we hope that fans will agree that we've accomplished that."

The centerpiece of the bonus materials is "Within a Minute," a newly produced feature that offers unprecedented insight into the complexity of creating a single 49-second sequence of "Revenge of the Sith." From pre-production artists to costume designers, from camera operators to make-up artists, from sound designers to musicians, "Within a Minute" showcases the massive amount of work that goes into one short sequence. This one-of-a-kind journey was created from more than 600 hours of material gathered throughout the process of making "Revenge of the Sith" and is hosted by Episode III's producer, Rick McCallum.

"There are hundreds of names and jobs in the end credits of 'Revenge of the Sith' -- but hardly anyone understands just what all of those people do and what an enormous contribution they make to the movie," said Tippy Bushkin, the documentary's director. "By focusing on less than 60 seconds of the movie, 'Within a Minute' is almost a 'mini-film school' in which Rick and George examine the entire process of making Episode III in a fun and fascinating way."

In addition to "Within a Minute," the "Revenge of the Sith" DVD offers a host of special features that illuminate the process of creating the epic interstellar adventure. Among them are deleted scenes that bring new perspective to the Star Wars saga.

"The deleted scenes include one that fans have been waiting a long time to see, one that shows Yoda arriving on the swamp-planet of Dagobah, where Luke Skywalker meets him in 'The Empire Strikes Back,'" Ward said. "George worked with Industrial Light & Magic and Episode III Producer Rick McCallum to finish most of these scenes with complete visual effects and sound design, and they bring a new perspective to the movie."

The DVD bonus features also include a newly recorded audio commentary featuring Lucas and key members of the movie's crew. In addition, the DVD offers a pair of brand-new featurettes -- "The Chosen One" and "It's All for Real" -- that look at two of the movie's most popular aspects: Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader; and the creation of the amazing stunts in the climactic lightsaber duel between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In addition to its Nov. 1 DVD debut in the U.S. and Canada, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith will be released in most major territories around the world on or about the same day.

I'm surprised he isn't releasing a set at the same time as ROTS but I suppose he wants to do his own thing and he'll release it when he's good and ready. Ah well, I'll wait for the moment, but not too long. I haven't seen ROTS yet.

Well, it was rumored that a "Saga" set would be released at the same time as ROTS. And unless I've missed something, that hasn't been "officially" announced yet.

I haven't heard anything official about a box set (other than it is planned for a 2007 release to mark the 30th Anniversary of the first film), but I have heard that the re-release of Episode I (which may be the one that will be in the box set) will have the horrible looking puppet Yoda replaced with a CGI Yoda, much like ones in Eps II and III. That is one change that I can get behind.

He's tinkering with them already? I don't mind the changes he's made to the first trilogy, in fact I like most of the changes, but I'd want to get the original versions of episodes I - III first.

I'd given my dad my copies of the original Star Wars Trilogy on video tape, when I got the remastered video tapes. When he died, I got them back. I hope to convert them to DVD for archiving & preservation, but I'll keep my digitized copies, too.

I admit to not being very sanguine about the "tinkering" that Lucas has done with his original films. It amounts to saying that they were somehow "defective" and that consequently he needs to "fix" them.

At least Alfred Hitchcock, when he was not completely happy with the original versions of his films, re-made them with new casts and new settings (cf. original vs. re-make of "The Man Who Knew Too Much").

I do not believe that advances in technology are an excuse--neither Willis O'Brien nor Ray Harryhausen ever felt it was necessary to "improve" their classic films because of some new gadgetry. It's a question of believing in the integrity and validity of your work--if you don't, it's like saying that the moviegoing public, who flocked in droves to your original releases, were suckers and dupes. :happy

I bought The Star Wars Trilogy Special Letterbox Collector's Edition way back in 1992 and am glad that I did. This VHS boxed set has a hologram on the box and the original trilogy in wide screen. I wish that I could have it on DVD but I'm glad to have the original versions on VHS at least. I don't care for Lucas' tinkering either with the Han/Greedo thing being just awful IMHO.

Greedo shooting first was the only change I had a problem with but I'd like the original trilogy too. I used to have them on VHS but got rid of all my tapes when I started buying DVDs. Big mistake! I liked or didn't have a great problem with the other changes, in particular the Emperor's statue being toppled in ROTJ, and I wish we had seen Hayden's face in Darth Vader's helmet when Luke removed the mask.

Personally, I'll just stick with getting Episode III, then be happy with what I got, no matter what else comes.

Anyone get the New Essential Chronology?

I just bought Revenge of the Sith last night. My g/f and I were just watching the deleted scenes and getting ready to possibly watch the movie. We were also watching some of the Making of Episode 3. I was sitting here in awe thinking how cool/cushion-y it is for George Lucas to be able to work out of his home. DUDE! I would have so loved to had been a part of making this movie/and or series. :party

Great it is. :-D

Now, as much as I will no doubt watch the Star Wars TV series when it gets made, I have to admit I am less than enthused about it's time period.

Setting it during the Clone Wars might seem like fun, but it doesn't leave much room for maneuvour for writers to come up with stories.

Now, if they had set the series during the First Republic, long before the Clone Wa5rs, and concentrated on the Jedis or other characters in the time period, you could have a myriad of stories to tell without worrying to much about continuity. Equally, setting a series after Return of the Jedi would allow for real freedom to create new villains and problems for the heroes of the New Republic. Either way, the show would have creative freedom.

I will watch the show, but just wish it had been set in a more creative time. Now if we can just get Amber weilding a lightsabre!

Not sure if I just should post this here. But has anyone been reading Troy Denning's "Dark Nest" series. The parallels he makes between Jacen Solo/Anakin Skywalker in the second book are shocking, frightening, and saddening.Hard to take that the same thing is happening just two generations later. But reading it makes Anakin turn easier to understand.

Yeah. I've read "The Joiner King", but haven't read "The Unseen Queen" yet. (Frakin' library taking its sweet time getting books in...)

Personally, I can't stand Jacen. And I wouldn't exactly mind if he died by the end of this trilogy.

There are also rumors floating about that CIV will be somewhere in the Los Angeles area sometime in 2007 (for the 30th anniversary of TOT). I went to CIII, and it was absolutely awesome, but I don't know if I'm willing to spend the time and money it would take to get to LA and stay there (I live in Wisconsin).
