Inspired by some recent posts in the 'Walks like a duck' thread...

We've got lots of threads here on Genuine Molded Plastic about shows/movies that we watch, but what ones, if any, are you fannish about? What fics do you read and enjoy? What fan vids do you like? Do you make avatars or wallpapers for other, non-W/T fandoms?

I recently bought Star Trek: Voyager on DVD, all seven seasons, and as a result, I've been indulging in some fannish-ness. Most specifically, Janeway/Seven shippy-ness. My latest obsession, yo.

I've fallen completely in love with Sazzy's fan vids. She's got some up on YouTube, and a bunch more (well over 100!) at her site. A few favorites...

Electric Storm - This vid is my fave at the moment. It is perfectly Janeway and Seven for me. They may not always see eye to eye, and goodness knows the Delta Quadrant is no walk in the park, but they won't give up.

Last Night on Earth - Sure, "Endgame" pretty much sucked, but with a bit of editing and some Delta Goodrem, this doesn't have to be the case. Yeah, it's only four minutes long, but I may never watch the actual finale again.

Beep - I posted this one in the other thread, but it can never be linked to enough, IMO. There are no words. Go. Watch. Laugh.

Waiting For a Star to Fall - Seven and Janeway hanging out in astrometrics. Aww, they're so cute!

The Time of My Life - Pure J/7 sappiness. I love it.

And because self-pimping is fun! And because obession very often equals avatars for me, I've got a buncha Voyager avatars that I made at my lj.

I've gone on long enough, so I won't get into fics right now. But how about other folks? Got recs?

So, am I the only on who thinks that Loss/Alex getting shot/Witness Protection Program is the best thing that could have ever happened to Alex/Olivia fanfic? Because hello to teh big angst!

There's Alex, who goes through the trama of being shot and nearly dying, then has her identity, her whole life as she knows, it stripped away. There's Olivia, who first thinks Alex is dead, then finds out she's not dead, but also finds out that she has to go into the WPP. There's the despair of them being forced to be apart, uncertain when, or if, they will ever see each other again. Of course, in fic, they do see each other again. That's why fic is so much more awesome than stuff that's not fic.

One Hundred Things That Might Have Happened (Rated 15) by Mira - My favorite SVU fic. 100 drabbles, each exactly 100 words long. Random moments throughout Alex and Olivia's relationship, in no particular chronological order. Very, very well written. I really love WPP!Alex here, who seems to be thisclose to having a nervous breakdown.

Spark, Hybrid, and Synthesis (15) by Harriet - I think that the beginning of this one is a bit quick with Alex and Olivia's getting together, but other than that little quibble, this is a really good trilogy. I love Alex trying to adjust to being in charge of her life again. And there is a beautiful scene in the third part, with Alex and Olivia in the squad room after a case that has been particularly hard on Liv. Gotta love slightly dysfunctional Liv.

Out of the Game (15) by D.S. - Cesar Valez is dead, and it's safe for Alex to come home. But she's adjusted to her new life, and isn't so sure she wants to give it up and go back to New York.

Yes and No (15) leavethesky - A beautiful little story. Olivia thinks about the things that she should have said and done. And then she gets a second chance.

I agree with you regarding Sazzy's videos (she also does fiction).

Yeah, I'm quite fond of Oh My God, They Killed Chakotay(NC-17). The title pretty much says it all. A very funny fic.

And on a non-J/7 related note, I have a new obsession! Jo/Blair from The Facts of Life.

I watched this show as a kid. Jo and Blair were my favorite part. Whenever they showed that despite all their bickering they really did care about each other, I would get warm fuzzies. I was totally shipping them in a clueless little kid sorta way. It's been fun rediscovering the show as an adult and seeing how very obvious teh gay is.

For any unfamiliar with Jo and Blair and their big gay, snarky love, here's a crash course.

Vid Recs:
Chemicals React is a really good Jo/Blair vid. It's by buffyfan357, who is one of the best fan-vidders out there. Perfect song/lyrics with perfect clips. Great editing and use of things like slow/fast mo and zooming in and out. Her Sam/Brooke Popular vid Over My Head is awesome, and her Kate/Juliet vid The Walk is almost enough to get me to start watching Lost.

For Jo/Blair fic go here. I'd especially rec anything by Angie, Della Street, misty flores, and Mondoshawan555.

I may be a little late to the party but thanks so much for these enlightening discussions re other fandoms.
I recently re-purchased Voyager seasons 4-7, I used to have them all on VHS but since I got rid of my VCR I have been missing my Voyager fix.

I cannot express how much I enjoy watching Jeri Ryan/Seven, I loved Voyager from the start (I remember standing on the roof of my house as a teenager trying to fix the aerial so we could pick up the channel that it was on!) but the addition of Seven made the show complete...well, J/7 would have made the show complete.

Thanks for all the links to the great fic and videos, Sazzy's videos are fantastic, I especially love the 'Holding out for a Hero' one, I had that song stuck in my head for ages after watching that!

After reading some great stories (most notably the 'Just Between' series) I've definitely been inspired to start working on a J/7 fic, the world definitely needs more of it! Although people will probably start to blame my lack of updates to my W/T fic on my rediscovered Seven love!

I never really understood the Janeway/Seven pairings I'd see when looking up Voyager fanfic, but not many people did anything other than Trip/T'pal when I went perusing through the Enterprise fics. I was so desperate for a T'pal/Hoshi or something sapphically inclined but I guess I'll have to write my own for anything to come of that.

I am a massive Fanboy of B5 and have all the dvds. Didn't quite like Legend of the Rangers and it's crappy approach but it was the last B5 release with Andreas Katsulas in it, and he was eternally awesome as G'Kar. I recently got the The Lost Tales and it was a very different change (with all the updated special effects) but still had all the feel of the series.

When I find some awesomely good fics for either Voyager or B5, I'll post them asap.

I was so desperate for a T'pal/Hoshi

I never did get into Enterprise, only watched a bit of the first season, so I don't read much of the fic. The website Passion and Perfection has an Enterprise page, with about 30 T'Pol/Hoshi fics. The only ones I've read are the ones by Della Street, because I'm a fan of her stories for other fandoms. I quite liked Speaking the Language.

Anything by D.S. is good. She writes lots of what I like to think of as episode fics. Stories that have a plot involving some kind of case being worked on, like an episode, but also has Alex/Olivia smoochies, yay! And they're usually long-ish. My personal faves:

DNA - Deals with Olivia getting closure about her mother's rape/her father. I don't want to say too much and spoil it, but I can't imagine the issue being handled better than it is in this fic. Period. What I also love about this one is Alex as Liv's protector. So often in stories, Benson is the big, tough cop keeping Alex safe or saving her from some nutjob, and don't get me wrong, I love that stuff. But it's nice in this story to see Alex get the chance to be Olivia's knight in shining armor.

Taxi - Olivia's working undercover as a taxi driver when an unfortunate turn of events puts Alex in danger, and Olivia in trouble with Internal Affairs.

Downfall - The first time I read this one, I didn't know what to think. Olivia is accused of, well, I'll leave it at a crime, and Alex is assigned with trying her case. Alex is really heartbreaking in this one.

And for other D.S. episode fics, there's: Hard Feelings, Petition, Questioned, Campaign, and Deadline.

Then there's Del, who is also D.S. under a different name. She says the Del name is for posting more frivolious stuff. (She also posts as Della Street in some other fandoms.) They're mostly not very long, but if you like a bit of the wacky, it's some good stuff. Silly Fuzzy-Memory Thing and Silly Mistletoe Thing are particularly fun. And for something more serious, Missing is an interesting one in which Alex disappears while Olivia is out of town, and Elliot comes to realize just how close the two of them really are as he works on the case.

Mira is a writer I like, though she peddles mostly in shorter fics and extended drabbles. She does have one nice, long fic, though: A Mere Point of Light. Alex comes back to New York, and is temporarily assigned to Internal Affairs, who are investigating SVU.

In fact, I like Mira so much, that her story A View of the Open Sky is *the only* Olivia/Casey fic I've ever read. And it's pretty good.

Non me lo so spiegare by Nique Bartok - A between the scenes look at the episode Ghost. Angsty.

Memory Exant by theholyinnocent - A bit of Olivia/Abby Carmichael, but mostly Olivia/Alex, leading up to Loss.

The Last of the True Believers by Fewthistle - Not a lot of plot here, just a sweet and romantic fic of Alex and Olivia getting together.

Thanks very much, you know what, I just saved that fic to my favourites on the weekend and spent an enjoyable half day reading it. I agree, it's definitely one of the best Olivia/Alex fics I have come across. It's a shame that there are not more lengthy ones out there but I will aim to rectify that by writing a few of my own.

To start with I'm re-writing and re-working my 'Willow and Tara's Sin City' fic to make it an Olivia/Alex story which is proving quite fun. The SVU characters fit so well into the Sin City verse.

Famous last words, eh? I didn't quite get 500 done. Heck, I didn't even get *200* done. I had computers issues, and then it died altogether, and I was lucky to save what icons I could, and then buy a new comp.

But, I did get 190 icons done, and that's not too bad. Quality over quantity and all that. Anyway, I figured maybe someone might enjoy seeing them, so I'm gonna share.

I'm looking for a video. It was on youtube but I can't find it anymore. It's a Xena video that was made like a movie trailer. The subject of it was Xena and Gabrielle finally coming out. If anyone knows where I can find it, that would be fantastic.
