I do not know what an NVQ Assessor is, MKF, but I'm sure Paint the Sky will be the best one yet! Welcome again to Thursday!

Today is a Thursday I will remember for a long, long time ... quite possibly the very best Thursday of my life ...

Today, I finally got my Nintendo Wii.
I spent most of my money on liquor and women,
The rest I wasted.

I can't believe I missed such a good sermon at the cult of Thursday gathering place last week. gorn, I applaud you. ktv has it wrong - you are, in fact, a Thursday wackjob and 3/4!!! Maybe even 4/5... May your various joints and tendons never suffer from Wii-itis.

It is funny - there is no real reason, but I look forward to Thursday every week now. I'm caught by the spirit I suppose.

Paint the Sky - congrats. Whatever the hell a NVQ assessor is, I'm sure you'll be a bang-up one.

Floyd - I scowl with you. I shall dance a dance of Floyd well-wishing. :dance I shall sing a song of Floyd well-wishing. :moo (Or maybe that last one is pass a little Floyd well-wishing gas, I'm unclear...)

I am going to shuttle my still sick self out in the cold weather and grapple with irrigation equipment that really has no business running in these temps. Silly boss. (Is there any other kind?)

Weird. My laptop is making this sound like a teeny, tiny phone is ringing in the way-far distance. Hmmmm.... hello? Hello?

On that note, I'm off...
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.

Ah, Thursday works in mysterious ways, doesn't she, MKF? Sometimes she giveth (the Nintendo Wii), sometimes she taketh away (crappy exam scores).

There are different schools of thought out there, though, that believe Thursdays are actually what you make of them. It could perhaps be argued that I got my Nintendo Wii because I worked hard the last four months searching for one (indeed, everyone who knows me knows I was looking for one and had been thwarted at every turn - it was a friend who happened to see one today and picked it up for me).

I don't know your particular circumstances, Floyd (other than your rabbit has a pancake on its head), but it could perhaps be argued that - maybe - you didn't prepare for these exams as diligently as you might have. Or maybe you did and they were just hard-as-hell; if that's the case, well, that's the way Thursday's break sometimes.

You know, I really don't have time to write like this again on a Thursday! Look at all this work on my desk, MKF!! Still, it would be remiss of me not to at least mention maudmac's post from last week. God bless her for this thread! And every point she makes it right. The genesis of this thread might've been something different, but those of us who have found it later and have taken it up discovered our own wonderful spark therein.

Though I perhaps have been one of the louder voices shouting the joy of Thursday, I can't really claim any of the credit for the resurgence of this thread. Scroll back to around the end of December 2006 and into the first part of 2007 and you'll find it was Boschi who resurrected this bestest of all threads, and her voice that kind of set the tone the rest of us have picked up on. It was those posts - Boschi, maudmac, kisstheviolets, and more - that caught my attention and called me hither. Maybe there are others now drawn to this thread by my posts just as I was drawn here by those before me; I don't know, but I want to give credit where credit is due.

Hey Kittens!

I love my Thursday mornings these days. Mrs. Leaf doesn't have class and I don't have to leave for work until noon or so. So this morning involved a bit of sleeping in, the making (and eating) of a big breakfast, and a nice walk in the park. Lovely. Oh oh oh! And there were crocuses! The first ones I've seen this year! Purple and yellow ones. I applauded for them. I think optimism like that should get some recognition. And while I have lived in the northeastern bit of this country for too long to be fooled into thinking that this means we are done with winter, it still made me very happy to see them.

Congrats Paint the Sky! You will assess the hell out of those Ns, Vs, and Qs.

gorn, you better not abandon us in your Wii fervor. And use that wrist strap.

Floyd, sorry about the exams. Next Thursday will be better. I promise.

Bosch, sorry 'bout the sniffles.

Ok everybody - I gotta eat some food and run off to work.
Be good! Have fun!

I LOVE Thursdays at work. Every Thursday afternoon, I service a large apartment complex. I am allotted 2 hours to do what I have to do there, and most of the time, they don't have anything for me to do. It's great, cause I can have an extended lunch, catch up on some Kittenboard goodness, but mostly I just got out and help the other guys on my crew. Today is going to be cush. :)

congrats on the wii score, gorn. when are you having all the thursday kittens over for wii and beer enemas? i'll bring the rubber sheets!

i jest, i jest.

glad to see you're back in the thread and on the mend, boscherooni.

this should probably go in the rant thread, but because it's thursday and this is putting a damper on mine, i will share here. so, i work for a bastardly solo practitioner who has a receptionist and a legal assistant. i function as a law clerk/paralegal* (i'm not admitted in oregon, blah blah blah... taking the bar in here in july... ugh). now, because i do have a law degree, he bills his clients $150 an hour for my work. but for some inexplicable reason, i have to do all of my own mailing, despite the fact that there are both a receptionist and a legal assistant in the office who could more easily spend the two hours i just did photocopying, stuffing envelopes and preparing 15 certified mailings in a bankruptcy case. while i get that the boss doesn't mind billing his clients $300 for me to do that instead of the $120 he'd bill for the assistant to do it, i'd be pissed if i were the client. and just from a practical standpoint, it doesn't make sense for me to waste all of this time doing that when we're swamped with actual substantive work. i'm more annoyed when i remember that the girl i'm seeing, who is a paralegal without an asterix (she's been doing this for ten years, no plans to go to law school, etc.) has her own secretary! grr. i just have $110,000 in debt and a close intimate relationship with the postage meter.

anyway, the rest of my thursday has been delightful. i slept over at the girl's place last night, slept in with her a little this morning, then we skipped the max and drove in to work and met for a quick lunch trip to border's a bit ago. i'm trying to do my best to deal with our unorthodox arrangement, and just hope for the best and try not to fuck it up with my spaziness. so far, so good.

on a somber note, this is the last thursday of my 20s. i turn 30 on tuesday and am not looking forward to it. tuesday will forever be the anti-thursday.

have a good one people!

I ditched work. Screw it, the boss isn't in either and I can get more done from here. Besides, it's Thursday! And we're all having a slip n' slide party at gorns.... ahem. or not.

Not that what I'm getting done here has anything to do with my job, but who's keeping track, heh? Besides, listening to Paul Simon albums from my yout' and spastically bobbing around the house is making me feel much better. Which really is what's important.

It is the Thursday of the mailing I think - I spent today putting together two mailings and trying to coordinate getting them printed and mailed by two different printers. Blah. A graphic designer I am not.

And I'm starting to think I'm not much of a farmer. I haven't been outside in 2 days. Are the sun and moon still doing their thing? Sky is up, ground is down, etc.?

Particularly considering ktv's pending transition into ancienthood, I think we should be worried about that sort of thing. After all, if her shining example of wild oat sowing can meet the brick wall of 30, then anything might happen. I expect next Tuesday she'll be shuffling about in a housecoat and slippers, watering her plants, petting her cats and pondering a nap before her afternoon tea at the DAR. Speaking of cataclysm ...

for all wiccachica fans out there, Cataclysm Cafe has been updated rather alot recently. I am mightily pleased.

Hope everyones thursday afternoon went swimmingly.

Wow. Slip n slide. It was huge when I was a kid.

I wish I could find spiffy retro toy sites like certain cool mods, but the best I can offer is:

http://www.wham-o.com/default.cfm?page=ViewProducts&Category=1

Take away the packaging and it's basically a strip of plastic. You get it wets and it gets slippery. Probably costs less than a dollar to manufacture. I think the marketers are bloody geniuses.

Ahhh, Thursday. What a day. Woke up still riding a wave of happy, had a great morning and afternoon with my son, went to the library, and now I'm having a pizza... and it tastes good. :) Looking forward to the evening, too... all in all, this Thursday rocks like a landslide. And that's a lot of rock.

It's a slip and slide Thursday. I loved those things. But back in the day, we used to create our own with big garbage bags. Trust me I've been injured a couple of times on the slip and slide. It was a long Thursday and well I don't like long Thursdays. I was at work at 7:00 and I had a training until 9:00 tonight. Granted I did get to come home for a couple of hours, but that sometimes only makes it worse. And the kids were not listening at all today. Lunch time was a mess, 4-year olds spitting milk out all over the table. :smash OH well tomorrow its time to roll in style, we got a limo for the night. :peace

Ah the slip and slide. I remember them well. It just wasn't summer without a couple of mild abdominal lacerations from a stick or rock poking up through one of those things. Good times, good times.

ktv, it's time to buck up about the 30 thing. Turning 30 is great. 31 and 32 as well. I'll let you know about 33 come December, but I have high hopes. The housecoat and slippers are optional. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. And Mrs. Leaf swears the ever-growing gray streak in my hair is sexy. So there. Pbbbbth.

My work day was nice and full, which made me happy. Due to a scheduling snafoo I might have the day off tomorrow, which would be fun but not so good for ye olde paycheck. We'll see what happens.

Good night kittens. Catch you all later.

But it is Thursday! I am here! Happy thursday all. I am off to work, where I must do damage control from my own idiocy. Doh.

when i saw boschi had posted in this thread this morning, i thought "wtf is that crazy broad doing posting on a wednesday" - totally not realizing that today was, in fact, thursday! my apologies to the bosch for my mental outrage. so how did i not know today was thursday? no clue. maybe my birthday threw things off. but it is the best little surprise ever to wake up and find that it's miraculously thursday somehow (you know, apart from the whole turning of the earth and passage of time that makes it come about naturally).

my round two of birthday festivities starts tomorrow as my bff is flying up to portland from southern california, so i'm super excited about that. we're going "rock'it bowling" tomorrow night with a*, my bro and sister-in-law, and a girl we went to high school with and haven't hung out with in over a decade (with the exception of our ten year reunion). a very random mix of people to celebrate my 30th with. i'm sure there will be plenty other shenanigans over the weekend. my bff has a husband and two small kids at home so it means a lot that she's coming up here and i'm glad she'll get a little break from the bunch as well.

now, if i can just make it through today and tomorrow without nutting up. work is crazy and my love life isn't any more sane at the moment either. i'm hanging on by a thin thread this thursday (ahhh, alliteration). the weekend never looked so good.

happy thursday!

This Thursday I discovered that I like tea. And had a good chat with my friend from school who I've not seen in a while. Fun stuff.

Thursday rocks this week because my mom sent me a package with girl scout cookies in it. Oh yeah baby! 2 boxes of thin mints, all mine all mine! I'm sure there must be plenty of girl scout cookies out here in good old Nueva York, but I don't know any of them and therefore have no cookie access of my own. When I used to live in the various burbs of Boston, the girl scouts would always camp out at supermarkets, so you were pretty sure you could get some without a personal girl scout connection. But here they don't seem to do that. Also we don't have a lot of supermarkets, so maybe that explains it. Who knows? But I've got my cookies now, so all is well. I like them best frozen. Anyone else eat them like that too?

This has been one of the slowest months ever at work (that would be the reason I am still home at this hour). I don't know if it's recession or spring break or what, but the spa has decidedly not been hopping. A big change from February when I thought I was going to pass out from too much work. Gets worrisome for a girl who works on commission. Things will pick up though. They usually do. A lot of our business there are tourists, and quite frankly I wouldn't really want to visit New York in March either. I'm trying hard to just enjoy the extra free time and not stress about it too much. Ha! And there we go...I just got a call that they need me to come in earlier, like now. Woo hoo! Let's hear it for Thursday!

Allrighty, packing up now. Have good days everybody!

Dig you and your Sassy Eggs!

Is it FINALLY Thursday, MKF? I thought it was going to be Wednesday forever ... This has been a great Thursday, but I've been goddamn busy pretty much since pouring that first cup of coffee. VIP's from the parent company in Japan, a strike somewhere that's causing GM & Ford to over-order with us, and then a bunch of little insignificant stuff that collectively adds up to be a steady, constant pain in the butt.

But let's stick with the good news on a Thursday, MKF, ok? After three years of a rotten satellite internet connection, I am FINALLY getting a high-speed landline up and running this evening!

That's not enough, MKF? How about this? I called about a $100 rebate I was supposed to get from upgrading my HD package and adding a DVR - I was told that today was the LAST DAY to apply for it. I had used up my 60 days to print something out on-line and mail it in, but no one ever told me that (or maybe they did, but I forgot). I complained because I was expecting something in the mail, and didn't follow-up until now because I had paperless billing. The guy bumps me up to his supervisor who happily takes care of it right over the phone, no need to print out or mail anything (why they couldn't have just done that anyway when I first signed up, I'm not sure ... but I digress).

What? High-speed internet AND a hundred bucks is still not enough, MKF? Alright, how about this? When I'm on the phone with that supervisor, he asks me if I'd like Cinemax for 1 PENNY a month until January 2010, no strings attached, I can cancel anytime for no penalty. Yes, he said 2010.

So, how am I going to spend my evening tonight, MKF? Am I going to browse the internet at super-high speed? Watch something on Cinemax? Or maybe take my hundred bucks and go buy 2 new games for my Nintendo Wii?

Yes, that's right. I'm going to do all three.

ktv, I think it might be my second birthday today, too.

i never said today was my second birthday. lol. i said "round two" of my birthday celebration was starting tomorrow. it sure does sound like christmas came early for you though, gorn. that or you're seriously hogging the good thursday vibes. i think the latter.

thursday hates me today. i'm convinced the forgetting the day this morning was thursday's ninja-like sneak-attack on me. and not some lovely kind of surprise like a hot naked chick jumping out of a cake - more like that naked chick being hideous and wielding nunchucks and ninja stars.

my boss is being a massive dick today. massive. this job is completely sucking my will to live. today i actually had to utter the following sentence to him: "you know, neil, i'm really trying not to take offense at the implication that i am not actively "thinking" while performing my job duties." i so need a new job and today is marks only one-month on said job. ugh.

plus, my egg salad had sweet relish in it which is quite possibly the most revolting thing on earth.

and finally, the girl has a date tonight. i'm sick of this.

my thursday is no fun. no fun at all.

gorny, can i come play wii?

Good Thursday morning everyone MKF.

It is warm. And sunny. I had forgotten what that was like.

To all the folks east of me who have been hit by the same annoying storm that dumped unreasonable amounts of rain here late last week -

1) I'm sorry

2) Nah-na-na-nah-na-na!

I talked to my boss about recent idiocy at work (see Rant thread), and basically told him the schedule I wanted then asked "if that is enough to cover our asses?", given that it is my coworkers and his boss that have been bitching. He didn't blink at my bluntness, and seems to think the schedule will provide adequate butt coverage, so I'm pleased. It means I'll be spending one less day out there a week than was originally planned and working from home another day.

Plus, I got a fair amount done in the past couple days and didn't have to worry about working with others. I know the right answer in interviews or when chatting is "Why yes, yes I really do work well with others." But the truth is I often prefer to be left alone to do what needs to be done. You may call me Hermette.

On other topics: I will repeat a query from the Random thread:

Where the hell are all the gay couples in the NY Times wedding announcements?! They used to be there - usually one or two every Sunday. But for the past several weeks there has been zippo. (I will confess to missing this last Sunday).

Leaf? You here today? What is up with this oh, New Yorker?

Morning kittens!

We've got a nice soft gray day here. No sunshine, but no rain either. I kind of like it.

Bosch, sorry I missed this. I've been a little out of the loopy this week. But I too have noticed the absence of high profile marrying homos! This past Sunday as well. I have no idea what is up with that. I haven't heard any hulabaloo about the Times changing their policy (and I should think there would have been some decent fuss if they had) so I must conclude that this is just the slow season for rich and well connected gay weddings. It is March after all. Sad though. I do enjoy seeing them in there.

If you want, Mrs. Leaf and I could get married again and try to get listed. But I fear that unless they were super desperate to meet the gay quota we would not make the cut. And we have already been married twice (once for ourselves and once for the fine state of Massachusetts) so that kinda feels like cheating. Plus we're broke these days so you guys would have to foot the bill.

But on the subject of wedded bliss, this week marks 10 years that I have had the great pleasure of Mrs. Leaf's company. Pretty crazy, huh? Anyway, it's got me counting my blessings this week, and there does seem to be a great big heap of them. Lucky Leaf.

I'm off to work in a few, so have yourselves some good days today everybody!

thursday, thursday....

this grey and miserable thursday (really, are there any other kind in the blasted pacific northwest?!) finds me battling the same plague that has befallen my brother and my sweetheart, making the latter the crankiest, meanest little mo'fo i've ever encountered. a* ripped me a new one via text message yesterday for jokingly guilting her about something completely silly and frivolous. she kind of apologized a few hours later but i'm still peeved and weirded out by the whole thing and i haven't heard from her today. and this after i got her flowers and echinacea on monday. wtf. i'm really starting to lose my patience with this one (seriously, i rock, it shouldn't take three months to decide whether you want to give it a real go with me).

in happy thursday news, my ogre of a boss decided a couple of days ago to fly down to so cal to see one of his demon spawn for easter (who knew satan was into that sort of thing?), so we will be ogre-free from 1:00 p.m. today until tuesday morning. this is really the best news of the week. his latest thing is doubting my entire work history because i wasn't familiar with a document labeling system he uses in discovery responses. i've worked in firms/agencies in three different states (four now if you count oregon) and have never encountered this labeling system but it's easy to learn. he now doubts that i could have worked anywhere and not known about it. sigh. i give up.

bosch - glad you laid down the law at work. wish i knew why there was a dearth of 'mos in the times, but i too have been lamenting their absence. maybe you should show up to the times office with your machete and demand some answers.

leafy - congrats on ten years of coupley goodness. that's awesome. you are both very lucky ladies.

gorn - is it beer enema and wii time yet??

happy thursday, kittens.

Hey hey, Thursday lovers.

I'd like to comment on the weather, but to be honest I haven't opened my curtains yet to see what's happening out there.

I've been enjoying a week off work, and I'm doing absolutely nothing but surfing the board, making the odd post when something peaks my interest, wondering if I said too much in one :blush

I've effectively blocked out the the calls of the vacumn cleaner and I'm ignoring the dishes that need washed and the pile of laundrey that has escaped from the laundrey basket and is crawling zombie like accross the bedroom floor.

The only appliances that have seen action, apart from my laptop, has been the kettle and the toaster. But, I may use the oven later, nah, I'll order pizza and feel good about helping local enterprise.

God, I love lazy days, eventhough I know that tomorrow I'll be running around like a blue ass fly catching up.

But that's tomorrow, and this is Thursday dammit, and it won't be spoiled by worrying about that.

To you all, have a good day, may the stress levels be minimum, and your partners kind and loving :pray

A Good Thursday to all, MKF! Tomorrow being Good Friday, I'm looking at my first 3-day weekend since ... I don't know, sometime last year. Ah, those Thursdays before a 3-day weekend, MKF!! Nothing quite like 'em!

It is Mrs. Gorn's birthday this weekend - Saturday, to be precise - so there will be no Beer Enema & Wii parties at my house (and if there were, it would be with her friends, not mine).

You know, if you did the Beer Enema, you would literally be drunk off your ass ...

Anyway, I don't have time for that kind of nonsense today. George Mason University, my alma mater, is playing basketball today. No, I am not much of a basketball fan - I would venture to say I am not in the slightest bit interested in basketball - but Western Kentucky is playing today, too, and all my co-workers have suddenly and somewhat mysteriously vanished from their desks. I figure if I say MY team is playing, too (they all know I "ain't from around here"), I'll have just as valid an excuse to sneak out of here early!

Have a good Good Thursday, y'all!
