Suicide is most common when people are in their 40s and early 50s.
The U.S. has lower rates of suicide than other industrialized countries.
Most baby birds that are found and "rescued" are actually kidnapped.

The Asian Long-Horned Beetle is black and white, right? Wrong. When they're alive, the beetles have a blueish tinge to their feet and antennae, which goes away when they die.

#1 - Juvenile foxes aren't all that good at killing chickens. But they're very good at traumatizing them, grabbing them, pulling feathers out, etc. Also, they apparently don't mind doing this in broad daylight.

#2 - Traumatized chickens are very, very good at hiding.

#3 - There is apparently a den of "teenage" fox kits somewhere in my suburban neighborhood.
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.

Newton's laws of physics provide strong support for the beliefs of two extremely contradictory pre-Socratic philosophers, Heraclitus and Permanides.

It is generally a good idea to check and see if anyone is on the same floor of the house as you BEFORE you do the dishes, if you happen to be the sort of person who puts the dishes away dancing around like a silly-head and rocking out to your iPod. Your family will never let you live it down if they see you.

Had I known you were a Smurfing friend, I'd have told you. While I'm at it... here we have gummy smurfs and marsh;allow smurfs.

OT: Today I've learned that Torchwood is coming back on July 8th, and before that in webpisodes with Barrowman's voice and it seems Eliza Dushku.

Out of less than 100 words (I'd guess about 40-60, but I haven't counted in a while) that the 1 year old I take care of says, 'Bob' has now joined the list, in honor of Bob Marley. I know why I learned that she knows this, but I'm not sure why *she* learned it in the first place...

First, a little background: I live in the country, on top of a hill, at the end of a dead end road. There are four families in the area spaced a comfortable distance apart. Today, I heard a thumping sound on my front porch and when I went to the door, standing on the steps was a black retriever known as our “community” dog, which wasn’t a surprise, but next to her, stood an adorable three year old grinning from ear to ear. I had no idea who this toddler was. I looked around for an adult but no one else was around. I asked who he was and he said he was playing at his grandpa’s. My neighbor has a lot of children and grandchildren so I quickly figured out where he belonged and walked him back over to their house. They had no idea he had wandered off! I’m glad the dog was at the beginning of her usual round going from house to house looking for treats when the boy began following her. Otherwise, she would have been heading home which means crossing the road on a blind corner where a steady stream of big trucks travel to and from her owner’s property.

What did I learn today MKF? That a child, no matter how well behaved, really will follow a dog, even a dog they don’t know, pretty much anywhere. And.. thank TPTB this particular story has a happy ending.

#1: Sometime in the last 3 years, flights between Austin and Harriburg vs. Austin and Baltimore went from being $100-$200 more to being $50 less.
#2: At the fastest route it takes 30 hours of driving to get from Austin to Missoula Montana.
#3: Flying on the weekend costs way more than flying on a Friday.

I learned that if you're looking at the constellation of Sagittarius, the very tip of his arrow is pointing at the black hole at the center of our universe.

This fills me with wonder. It also makes me wish I didn't live in a city so that I could actually see this for myself. I think a trip to the planetarium is in order.

There's a black hole at the center of our universe? I wish I hadn't learned that today, MKF ... I find it a little unsettling.
