No worries (certainly not on a Thursday!) - celebrating a zero balance by going out and spending a lot of money is admittedly oxymoronic. But we're like that.

Although it sounds fun, my wife is NOT going to be down with any sort of Tornado Party. She's terrified of them. She'll probably spend the night watching local TV and looking out the window, and I'll spend the night telling her it's probably going to be OK.

I hope the power goes out so we can use our extra-flamey candles.

gorn - I am grateful, and thank you for reminding me of the fact. Be safe through your ordeal with Mother Nature, may you see through it unharmed. :peace

Today has been a productive Thursday so far. I went to dance class (trying to take it easy on my left leg, where I strained a muscle earlier this week), then had lunch with my friends and a visiting guest speaker. But my main accomplishment for today was that I got all my study abroad forms in, so I've officially applied to go to England next fall! :party At least, I got in all the forms I could; the faculty recommendations are out of my hands, and my passport hasn't arrived yet, so I can't give them the info they need from that. But it's pretty much out of my hands now!

Congrats to everyone on their greenhouses and debt and England stuff.

Speaking of tornadoes...the sirens were going off here today most of the afternoon. Image Did my school cancel classes like every other school in the entire state of Alabama? No, of course not. So I sat around after my second class, had lunch, blah-blah-blahed with a friend, and then ran through a downright biblical rainstorm that soaked me to the skin...only to find my last class canceled. Dammit.

I have no room to complain, though, because people died today in these storms. At least 18 dead south of here in Enterprise, AL last I heard (plus more in Missouri, I think). If my biggest complaint from this Thursday is that I got wet, I am fortunate.

Now, for no reason at all - Giant Plush Microbes!!! (I think the E. coli is particularly cute.)

And for even less a reason than none, if such is possible - Weight Watchers recipe cards from 1974. Highly disturbing. Click at your own risk.

Oh dear god, Holley, I haven't had a giggle-fit render me so incapable of speech in years! I was trying to read some of them to my wife (one of the better things to come out of 1974, apparently), and I was laughing so hard I was weeping uncontrollably and finally had to resort to pointing at the computer. I needed that...thanks!

Yay! :pinky

I am pretty sure I was fed some of that stuff when I was little. And I am also pretty sure that even the cute little e. coli in my guts must have run screaming from the quivering gelatinousness of it.

All I know is there were an awful lot of boxes of unflavored gelatin around when I was little and I remember being disappointed that it wasn't orange or lime Jell-O. I am certain I've eaten this. What were people thinking back then?!?

Unflavored gelatin! *shudders* I forgot about that, but we always had it in the cupboard too...along with that one can of potted meat food product. What advertising genius came up with that? And my parents wonder why I'm such a picky eater. It's their fault! Them and their damn '70s "cuisine," which was wholly too dependent on gelatin and bundt pans, if you ask me.

Damn, now all that polyester and rust-colored corduroy jeans and gauchos and shag haircuts don't seem...well...any worse than the food, anyway.

along with that one can of potted meat food product.

Was it sitting next to this? lol, I ate that stuff willingly. And Vienna sausage, too. :ashamed

Maybe that's part of the reason I've been a vegetarian for 12 years now...

Speaking of the '70s, this is fun:

IF YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S......

You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island .

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie", not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill".

People sometimes thought you were a boy.

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.

YEAH! You owned a "Slip-n-Slide", on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once.

You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once !

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.

You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits, or the sunshine family

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Oleson!

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink!

PONG! ("video tennis" ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of !

Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.

When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna "take off"

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic. With the thermos inside some were glass inside and broke the first time you dropped them.

You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.

YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!

It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?"

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.

You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books. (Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.) or in some cases Love Wild and Fair :-)

You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics.

You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.

You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was the first "real" perfume you ever owned.

You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped off.

Gorn: Do not criticize the weekend! It may hide, or dawdle somewhere, preventing quick and easy access at the appropriate and expected time.

I am mopey today, because despite making a conscious effort to organize my disheveled self, I have lost paperworky items that I needed. WTF? They can only be so many places....

Has spring hit anywhere else? Suddenly it feels like everything outside has taken a deep, collective inhalation and is preparing to breathe out all things green and growing. Woohoo. Saw yellow crocuses blooming a couple of days ago.

Boschi, you're right. The weekend deserves my respect. Saturday! Sunday! Please forgive me ...

Spring is all over the place here in the bluegrass state of Kentucky! Last Thursday we were under tornado watches, today is 60's & blue sky. Damn shame I've got to spend the day indoors at my desk, but such is the nature of Thursday - so close to the weekend, but not quite there yet.

I was so excited I almost posted this morning, but I saw that would be double-posting since I was the last person to post last week. It was a test of will, but I knew that if I just waited long enough someone else would post here first this week. Thank you, dlline & tazraven!!

I have an utterly miserable cold, but I still came into the office. Stupid me, I know, but I've been ingrained with an unhealthy work ethic. What makes any of this the slightest bit bearable is ... being able to post in my favourite-est thread on this board!

Ah, Thursday! How quickly you wheeled around again! And it's PAYDAY!! Woo woo!! Somehow makes all this "work" nonsense seem worthwhile ...

My Thursday is not actually going all that well, but I'm happy to have made it this far. Hope everyone else out there can see themselves rounding the corner and coming into the home stretch!

Sandman78, I've always wanted to say this, and Thursday is as good a day as any. Actually, Thursday is a WHOLE lot better than a number of other days I might name (like good-for-nothing Monday), but that's beside the point. I really, really, really like your avatar! tazraven: Yes! Indeed! Happy UnBirthday.

Wow. It took me six tries to type that - the spelling/typing fairy is not with me today.

So I'm sitting here at my mothers computer, staring up at a piece of "art" I did when I was in second grade. I remember lying on a big piece of paper and having a classmate trace my outline, then coloring it in as a self-portrait. For some reason on the bottom of the dress (WTF??) that I drew on myself there is a heart with the words "Willa + Wopel" written in it. I have no idea who Willa or Wopel is, or what that is all about. I also thinl that my face looks awfully darned deformed. Huh. Parents keep the strangest things.

Well, now this is damned peculiar ...

I posted first thing in the morning here when I got into work. Checked a couple of times, and the post was still there. But now, that post is missing ... This has happened two or three times before. Am I posting in the middle of an update or upgrade or something?

Regardless, no sense dwelling on stuff like this when it's Thursday, MKF! Having lost my earlier post, this is almost like getting that "first-post feeling" all over again!
