Though I cannot claim to have been one of the original disciples, I'm filled with JOY at least once a week that this thread has been around for five years! Hooray!

Last Thursday was a good day to leave Detroit ... but I would be remiss if I did not finish the story. It has a happy ending. Detroit, you suck ass, but you DO have at least one decent coffee shop.

So I'm sitting there in the Food Court of the Fairlane Center mall after writing last Thursday's tirade. Pizza & fries, nothing special - nobody had coffee, as expected, so I got a big Mt. Dew. Not a bad compromise. I was happy. I knew I was leaving Detroit that afternoon and that Ohio would certainly have coffee. I was prepared to suffer in silence.

My co-worker on this godforsaken trip turns to me and says there's a fancy coffee place like a Starbucks behind me. He's a good ol' country boy, so when he says "fancy coffee place" I know it's probably the real thing. It wasn't a Starbucks, but it was the same kind of place. I finished off my pizza and dashed over.

It was closed.

The owner and a bunch of staff were there trying out their machines, and they told me they were having their grand opening tomorrow. I am not one to swear much in public, but after all I'd been through an echoing "FUCK!!!!" escaped me. I told the owner my woes, and this man ... this saint ... pours me a cup of black coffee on the house. I fell on my knees and thanked him.

If any Kittens find themselves in the ass-end of Dearborn, Michigan (god forbid ...), please stop in to the Fairlane Center mall and buy a cup of coffee from that place. Tell them my story and tell them how grateful I am.

I was hoping we'd get to hear the end of gorn's epic coffee quest. Good story, man.

I find myself kind of grumbly today. I think it's just that simmering irritability that comes with late winter. Unavoidable. Even my cats are cranky. It is time for some almost warm weather and some overly optimistic opened windows. And the wearing of wishful thinking jackets instead of winter coats. And no more snow even though this last one was very pretty. And please god a less drastic heat bill for this month.

I saw an add on my subway ride home tonight that boggled my little mind a bit. Right up there next to the dermatologist and the vodka and the ESL schools and the don't forget to take your litter with you when you go warnings...there it was. An advertisement for becoming a benedictine monk. On the F train. It was sort of sweetly earnest and embarrassingly cheesy with pictures of the berobed smiling brothers interacting with a careful rainbow array of new yorkers and for some reason it just tickled the hell out of me. It never occurred to me that monks have marketing campaigns. Who knew?

That's all I got today kittens.

It's snowing, MKF!! Ordinarily this would be an extremely happy thing for me on a Thursday (I love snow!) ... but it's turning icy and Mrs. Gorn is driving home now from work in it. I still haven't changed out of my clothes from work because I'm afraid I'm going to have to go get her after she slides off the road. I offered to go pick her up from work, but she said she needs to learn how to drive in this kind of weather herself ... and she's probably right.

Though not a parent myself, I'm guessing this is kind of what it feels like sometimes.

You know what's weird, though? I was sitting out in my shorts TWO DAYS AGO grilling ribs on the barbeque ...

I have been absent of late folks, apologies. In truth, the crazy times have begun again and I haven't the slightest idea how often I will be around. I'm waiting for a smidgen more light in the sky before scurrying out to pick up transplants and head to the field. I will have three gullible, err... willing... volunteers this morning - hallelujah. It is the time of the onion transplanting, which has to be the most tedious task of all time. It's like having a full yard of nothing but dirt and deciding to put grass in it by sticking one blade at a time into the ground at precisely spaced intervals. Shoot me now.

On other topics -
My word for the day: perspicuous
" plain to the understanding especially because of clarity and precision of presentation "

Why is it my word for the day? Haven't the slightest (not very perspicuous, eh?) It has just been stuck in my head this morning. I believe I shall endeavor to have a perspicuous production schedule.

There. I feel better now.

Hello and best wishes all.

Good morning ya'll....Happy Thursday. I've been absent for way too long. I guess I got caught up too much in the Thursday nookie. ;-) Anyways it feels good to be back. This Thursday is special because its the start of the NCAA Basketball Tournarment yes it makes me all giddy like a school girl. I like watching the underdogs and rooting for them. Thats why I'm not filling out a bracket this year because I always end up cheering for them anyways, so go underdogs may you upset all the top seeds. Plus I was a little disappointed that Univervsity of Kentucky didn't get in it this year. :miff Well anyways I'm going to enjoy my Thursday off and sit around and do nothing. Happy planting boschi and happy thursday to the rest of ya'l

Not a big basketball fan, but everyone else in the office is. And it's been like the Valley of the Shadow of Death around here. It's even getting me bummed, and I could otherwise care less. But Thursday makes everything alright, MKF! Kinda like Tabasco.

Boschi, you wouldn't be planting any ... Angry Onions, would you?

I was about to say Thursday Nookie is no excuse to not post about it in the It's Just Thursday, MKF! thread because I post about it all the time. But I remember a time back when Mrs. Gorn & I first started seeing each other, we spent three days and nights shut up in my apartment, coming up for air just long enough to get snacks at the convenience store down the street. I mean, we called in sick to work and everything. That was about ten years ago now, but I've got an almost 50-50 chance one of those days was a Thursday.

I'm going to let woahnellie off the hook because it's good to be magnanimous on a Thursday. And because she's from Kentucky.

Oh Thursday thread, I've missed you so.

Here are today's highlights:

The tiny little lilac bush that we have in a pot out on the back stoop did NOT in fact die over the winter as previously thought but is budding right this very moment. Bravo tiny little lilac bush! May we all aspire to your tenacity.

One of my clients today kept calling me Janice. My name is not Janice, but that was her story and she was sticking to it by gum.

Somewhere along my walk to work girlscout cookies are being sold but I have yet to pin down the exact location.

My subway train home tonight was brand spanking new. Like so new it was shiny.

And...the eerie Wumpus music kept playing after I closed the tab. How creepy is that? Also, I am a crap ass Wumpus hunter. But somehow I'm ok with that.

Happy Thursday to all and to all a good night!

What a grim Thursday, MKF! Thunderstorms, tornadoes in Nashville, power-outages ... I know even on a Thursday these things must sometimes come to pass - and I'm not one to complain! - but would a little sunshine have been so bad? This hasn't been a very good week, and I was so looking forward to today ...

Rolling lay-offs start at the plant next week. My boss, the plant manager, and the guy directly under me are all off for the week. It's always nice when the boss is out (he's a nice enough guy, don't get me wrong), but I doubt I'm going to get two minutes to myself until Good Friday. The silver lining to all this, however, is that I'M off the week after that when they all come back!!

... the nasty, tattered lining under the silver, though, is I'll be collecting unemployment for that week. First time in my life I'll be on the dole, and I can't say I'm particularly happy about it.

Ah, well. It is what it is. Two Thursdays from now I'll be a Burden On Society, MKF, but today I was a Hard Workin' Kitten (kind of).

Anyone else having a Wizard of Oz moment this morning?

I dreamed I posted on the Thursday Thread, and it seemed so real! And you were there Auntie Em, and gorn, and LesbianJedi, and Redsbird...

I will do my best at summing us all up:

gorn was lonely and weathered, Redsbird's wife had kicked some oral exam ass, and LesbianJedi was enjoying the sparkly glow of a new relationship, and I was stressed out mostly. I blathered on a bit about the why and the wherefore and health problems and taxes and cat poop and asked for some kitten recommended low cost stress management tactics.

Anyhoo, just didn't want Thursday April 9 to go unrepresented. Kisses and Thursday love to all,

The sun was out today, MKF!!! We've had this insanely long rainy gloomish spell and good glory was it nice to have a change.

My other Thursday highlights include blueberry pancakes for breakfast, a call from my favorite cousin saying he is coming into town this weekend, and a woman in very clicky shoes walking exactly in time with the music on my iPod as I headed in to work. Good stuff all of it.

Hope the day has been treating everybody well,

Haven't gone to bed yet, MKF, so to me it's still Thursday. Won't be Friday until I wake up tomorrow, no matter what the clock says!

I've had an exceedingly lazy week, made all the more so by the horrible weather we've had - until today! Sounds like Leaf and I have suffered under similar weather patterns. Supposed to stay nice until Sunday, so I'm hoping to get the lawn mowed tomorrow. No real excuse for not having done it today; just didn't feel like it. As much as I love the time off, not working has had a harsh impact on my energy level. I can see how this kind of thing could become chronic ...

Alas, my post is as boring as my entire week has been. Most exciting thing that's happened to me has been finally discovering the Dark Portal in the World of Warcrat ... which probably means absolutely nothing to most folks (the rest of you will laugh at me for taking so long to get this far). Haven't gone through it yet, but I've seen it up close and personal. Actually gave me goose bumps when I first saw it coming over the ridge.

Doesn't seem to be a lot of Thursday folks left out there anymore, but I wish them all a good Thursday wherever they are. MKF says hi!

Might as well just come out and say it, MKF. No better day than today.

Mrs. Gorn is pregnant! Due date is waaaaay off - December 29th - which, according to the calendar, looks to be a Tuesday. No big deal, though. As the day draws nearer, I'll slip the doctor a couple of ten's, see what he can do about making it happen on a Thursday.

:dance

Splendiforous news, gorn!

You know, if the due date comes up on one of those less marvelous days of the week, you could always name the child Thursday.

Or Boschi. Just a thought. Oh!, or, if it's a boy, Heironymous. :)

So I'm still faaaaarmin'. Sorry to be absent so long folks - busy time. Same old, same old - seeding, weeding, harvesting, selling. Damn deer, damn rain, etc., etc.

I'm celebrating my first CSA delivery, which was yesterday, and went generally very well. Many compliments and happy CSA members. Also, many payment checks. Gotta love those payment checks.

So today, in celebration, I am sitting on my bum, coffee in hand, having a bit of a late morning. I'm sure I'll regret this terribly later, but for right now it's pretty damn nice.

Oh! And the gf leaves for a 10 day trip to Japan next week. I, unfortunately, do not. But I am happy for her - it's sort of a work thing, but she will hopefully get a little rest too. So it'll be me and the pets in the house for a while. I'm thinking barbarian movies, pizza and a general devolvement to collegiate level idiocy. Heh.

Allrighty, I must de-leisure a little.

Happy Thursday thoughts, all.

Fantastic news, Gorn. I wish you and Mrs. Gorn a happy and healthy pregnancy, and a happy and healthy Thursday baby.

Thursday was yesterday for me, but its still Thursday in kittentime - dammit, it should always be Thursday.

*Sings* If I ruled the world everyday would be a thursday!

My Thursday consisted of working in the rain without a coat which drew a very concerned question from some American tourists who asked me "Do you know it's raining?"

I think they thought I was a little lacking in the brains department and hadn't the sense to come in out of the rain.

Happy Thursday!

Hey, hey, hey, Thuskateers!!!

I'm completely twitterfied today, all excited about the journey I'm hopefully about to embark on.

About two weeks ago I suddenly decided I was fed up with the rental market and decided that it was time to buy a home.

So, being the pragmatic kitty that I am, I did the finances and to my delight, found that with a bit of juggling I could afford to buy somewhere.

Now, as we know, the credit crunch has resulted in a turn down in the property market - which is good news for those of us who want to buy, if we can get a mortgage.

I went to the bank this morning to make an appointment with a mortgage advisor - I got an appointment for next Thursday.

I also arranged to view a house today near where I'm renting.

The ex came with me as I tend to be all 'ooh, shiny' and good sense goes out the window.

The house is great - 3 bedrooms and loads of potential (um, that means it needs a bit of work). By a bit of work, I mean a new kitchen, knocking a wall through, and modernising the bathroom. Nothing that I can't do, or get done - my cousin works in the building trade - always handy:) The main bedroom has a walk-in dressing area that is screaming to be turned into an ensuite shower room. I swear, before I left I had the place redecorated and furnished. I was like 'yeah, we could do this in this room, and the kitchen needs this and that, and wouldn't the bathroom look good ...'.

There's a nice garden to the front and rear, a patio area and it faces west at the back meaning it gets the afternoon and evening sun - great for a bit of outdoor living.

See, kittens, I've moved in already - lol.

The ex liked it as much as I did, and I jokingly asked if they fancied coming in on it as an investment - to my surprise they said yes. To maximise the chance of getting the finance, he said he would ring the building society, we have a mortgage with them for our joint house which the ex still lives in as we didn't want to put the cat through the stress of moving home.

As of 8pm tonight, we have a mortgage promise, meaning we can make an offer knowing that the funds will be in place.

Fingers, toes and everything else crossed that the offer we make tomorrow will be accepted.

Surely any venture started on a Thursday will end in success - but just in case, wish me luck, kittens!

I hope all your Thursdays have been as potentially fruitful as mine:)

It IS Thursday again, MKF! Just when you think the week is never going to end, that Thursday will never come again ... BAM! there it is! Friday & the weekend is right there around the corner. I wish Thursday's would come sooner.

Many thanks for all the kind words! Mrs. Gorn and the gornling are doing quite well. Got another sonogram coming up on Tuesday. Whoever invented this sonogram thing really deserves some kind of medal. It's absolutely remarkable seeing the little heart beating.

Big congrats to Paint the Sky on the house! There are times I wish I wasn't actually a homeowner, but it's a wonderful step to take. Hope everything works out your way.

Mrs. Gorn is working late tonight, and I promised I'd cook dinner for her. Tonight's menu - Tostino's frozen pizza! Hooray!! Before you make fun of me, I'll have you know Mrs. Gorn bought these herself at the grocery store and REQUESTED I cook them tonight. Yes, I know she's pregnant - other than frozen pizza she's eating extremely healthy.

Duty calls, MKF! Preheat the oven to 450!

p.s. I rather liked the name "Bosch," and any version of the word "Gorn" would've been great (I was partial to "Gornita" if it's a girl), but Mrs. Gorn won't hear of it.

Indeed. Thursday!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you PtS. They will be my metaphoric fingers, because I really will need to use my literal hands tomorrow, but the metaphorics will be twisted up all criss-crossy.

I took this week off from my non-farm job and tried to catch up on field work. I even had my employee (whoa. dude. I have an employee????) work double hours this week. And things do look better, but my, those weeds grow quickly. The tomatoes also grow quickly, which is wonderful, but also requires me to keep up with staking/tying them. Have I done this? Nooooo.... so I am wrestling with gangly, oversized tomato vines that do not appreciate bondage fun with baling twine.

My happy Thursday moment came this evening, as I mourned both the absence of the gf and her cooking. Suddenly.. a knock on the door. It was my neighbor, bringing me freshly made eggrolls as a thank you for some veggies I gave them last week. Damn. Sometimes it all just comes together. They were darn good eggrolls too.

Allrighty. Good night folks.

Huh - double post it is.

Woot. Thursday. So that's a good thing. To clarify from my previous post, gf was merely out of town temporarily. And just returned. Again with the woot. And brought me spiffy split-toed shoes for field work - apparently all the rage with organic farm field workers in Japan - as well as an incredibly sharp, hand-forged little weeding device. I is pleased, yes I is.

So I'm still tying those tomatoes. Thrilling fun. Really.

Anyone out there with, say, a life, want to share what they've been up to? Might as well live vicariously.

Happy happy, joy joy,

I know I need a life when I'm wondering what that tool is - lol.

Hmmm, how to describe...

Basically it is just a short handled hoe, but the blade has a nice angle and is offset so that one side juts out to a much sharper point than the other. It's perfect for detail weeding close up to the plants and it is insanely, cut-your-finger-off-by-accident sharp. Turns out it is also great for harvesting cabbage, although I did accidentally cut one head almost in half when I whacked it at the wrong angle. Oopsy.

Oh the weather this Thursday is gorgeous - upper fifties this morning, heading into the seventies this afternoon. I can't imagine better. I'm having a cuppa before heading out to till, weed and plant in the field. I feel positively frollicky.

Anyone see the Star Trek movie? Uhura? Hot. Way hot. I've always had a bit of a crush on Nichelle Nichols, who will always be THE Uhura, but still the new Uhura? Hot. Way hot. Talk about feelin' frollicky...

Anybody else prone to frollicky fits?

Nichelle Nichols was something to behold back in the day. Whoever made the decision to put her in a red miniskirt uniform deserves some sort of lifetime Emmy award. The old Star Trek was always good like that, though - Yeoman Janice Rand, the green-haired alien woman in the tinfoil bikini in "The Gamemasters of Triskelion," or my all-time favourite being that witch-doctor woman Nona in 'A Private Little War."

I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen the new Trek yet. I keep meaning to, but something always seems to come up. I guess the biggest obstacle being that Mrs. Gorn has no interest in anything Trek.

This Thursday is rainy, gloomy, and quite humdrum. Hot Star Trek chicks and all those bright colours from the original show have somehow made it a much better day that it otherwise might've been. Live long & prosper, MKF!

My happy Thursday thought of the day:

The house didn't flow or blow away last night! Yippee!

Crazy wild storms here - fast and furious. The rain falls so hard and intensely that once again I have whole beds of direct seeded veggies that will never have a chance to germinate - they either washed away or are now buried under silt that they will not be able to come up through. Sigh. I was looking forward to those carrots too.

I had a great dinner last night - broccolini from my field, the first of the ripe tomatoes, and a pile of pink, new potatoes tossed with a garlic scape pesto. Every bit of it (except for the oil) from my field. Oh, so good. Okay, and then I finished it off with a half pint of Ben and Jerrys. Not so local, but also damn good.

I love food. Deeply. Almost disturbingly so.

Allrighty, this disturbed puppy is off. Have a lovely Thursday all.

If you're curious what the heck a garlic scape is:
