The bottom line is we consider authors to own their work and we can't allow a free for all for people to take up other's fics and change them as they see fit.

And we're not calling anyone a thief. Just giving the basis for why we won't allow this. It is a post about future efforts and not specific to anyone.

The Kitten has always been a safe space for W/T lovers and particularly W/T writers and we want to maintain that.

Laragh is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. She never once mentioned stealing or plagiarizing in her announcement. Frankly, I would have been much harsher in the wording. Ergo.. why I asked her to make this announcement in the first place. So if you want to get on someone’s case then direct it my way.

No one will be allowed to “take over” a story posted on this forum without the original author’s permission. It doesn’t matter how long a story may be languishing in the incomplete archives or the PENS forum. The original author will always remain the sole “owner” of their fic and the only one to give permission to others to continue the work.

This is not up for debate.

One more thing since this was mentioned: Simply claiming permission won’t fly. The original author will need to either contact a moderator or post in their own fic thread an announcement regarding permission granted to another author to complete or alter any part of the story.

I preemptively said differently, apologies to anyone to whom this caused confusion.

My apologies as well.. I didn’t interpret your initial post to mean just say permission was given but, clearly, that is has it was taken by at least one member. I should have included the quote that prompted my response of clarification. Here it is:

Ani.Moon said: And if all she had to do in the first place was just to claim that she had talked to the original author in her disclaimer and then none of this would have happened - I'm not sure she would have done that - because her previous blatancy indicates her general honesty.

Just making sure all the (i)s are dotted and we can move on from this issue.
