'Loggerheads' Top U.S. Film at Outfest

Tim Kirkman's "Loggerheads," a drama starring Kip Pardue, Tess Harper and Bonnie Hunt in three interlocking stories, was named outstanding American feature at Outfest 2005. The award included a $2,500 cash prize from 20th Century Fox.
As the gay and lesbian film festival's 11th annual Film Competition Awards were announced Sunday night, the other Grand Jury Award winners were Anahi Berneri's "A Year Without Love" (Un ano sin amor), named outstanding international narrative feature; Susan Kaplan's "Three of Hearts: A Postmodern Family," outstanding documentary feature; Darian Sills, "The Reception," outstanding actor in a feature film;
Amber Benson, "Race You to the Bottom," outstanding actress in a feature film; Georgia Lee, "Red Doors," outstanding screenwriting.
Audience Awards were given to Georgia Lee's "Red Doors," outstanding first narrative feature, a prize worth $5,000, courtesy of HBO; Sherry Horman's "Guys & Balls," outstanding narrative feature; Nicole Conn's "Little Man," outstanding documentary; Nick Wauters' "Ryan's Life," outstanding short narrative film; Christopher Harris' and REACH LA's "This Is How I Love You," outstanding documentary short; and Chris Rael, "Queer Realities and Cultural Amnesia," outstanding soundtrack.
Special Programming Awards were presented to Lili Alexander's "Keep Not Silent," the Freedom Award; Yair Hochner, "Good Boys" (Yaledim Tovim), outstanding emerging talent, a $5,000 production grant, courtesy of Kodak; Jenni Olson's "The Joy of Life," outstanding artistic achievement.
The 23rd edition of the annual festival handed out its honors at an awards ceremony hosted by Kathy Griffin at the John Anson Amphitheatre, which was followed by the Los Angeles premiere of "Summer Storm."

The American features competition jurors were Q. Allan Brocka, Tommy O'Haver and Anne Stockwell. The international features competition jurors were Caroline Libresco, Jeremy Podeswa and Francois Trochet. The documentary competition jurors were Jennifer Arnold, Lisa Daniel and Eugene Hernandez.
Outfest 2005 is presented by Absolut and HBO. Premiere sponsors include Adelphia, the Advocate, DGA, Here! TV, Mercedes-Benz and Q Television Network.
