Alternate Universe Presents is doing a con in Sacramento July 8-10 and Amber's just been confirmed for it.

Here's the announcement and the website link:

"we are thrilled to announce the addition of the lovely and talented AMBER BENSON to our event in her first west coast appearance in several years. Amber will be with us all weekend - signing autographs, posing for photos and chatting up attendees at the Cocktail Party and Banquet. "

eek this event is expensive. but i might consider going since amber won't be at comic con this year (which is a lot cheaper). i'm confused by the pricing though, can you just purchase the amber photo op and autograph or do you have to pay 200 something for those funky passes?

You can buy as simple as a day pass and purchase an autograph and / or photo or even a weekend pass. The Pretty, Shiny or Bronze pass includes the autographs of all headliners.

It's nice to see Amber doing a few more cons. Only wish I could be there.

PS when did the board move? I was lost! :( And I had to reregister! :(

I haven't checked the other forums yet... *please* tell me all the wonderful fics I haven't got around to yet haven't been lost *prays*

suze2000- The board moved at the end of April, I believe. All the fics are still here.

On topic:

Amber's been doing a lot of conventions lately. I'm going to Moonlight Rising. A lot of these have been last minute additions with her, so maybe there's a chance that she could show up there. I can hope.

Anyway, this sounds like a nice convention. Hope anyone who can go has fun with the Amber-y goodness.

Moonlight Rising?
Oh my, I just had this flashback of JCB and cattle herding on the Catskills... :devilish

I remember that!! Ah well, what would it have been without all the hassles?

Perhaps someone should have made "I went to MR03 and survived" badges for all the attendees/victims.

Well, since you asked the question, mywillowtree, as to the reliability of the info, I really don't know. However, after skimming the livejournal, and relooking at the mainly "newbies" posting the info on this thread, my gut instinct tells me to give this con a pass.
No flaming or snarking or anything like that intended. I hadn't paid any attention to this particular convention since I can't go anyway...but if I COULD, ...I'd pass it up for something a bit more "established." (By "established," I'm not referring to "MR" or anything at all to do with JCB, because I appreciate comments from Kittens whose opinions I value).
Just my two cents. :wave

Speaking as one of the people working on this convention, I would have to say no. This is not to say that I can't take constructive criticism, but I wouldn't call what I see through this link as that.

In any case, I can only say that I, for one, have worked many events over the years -- some conventions as well as many other audience-driven entertainment events. I have attended and/or worked at a some of the events with Ms. Benson and she is always a delightful guest (as I am sure you would expect or even know).

If you have any questions about this con or AUP, please feel free to PM me.

Speaking from past experience, I think it is wise to check things out thoroughly before buying a ticket for any particular convention, especially ones that are either new or relatively unknown. There (still) are plently of events that Amber Benson shows up at, so it might be wise to compare them. Something close won´t necessarily be the cheapest or the best.

This year, they aspire to do it on their own, yet they’ve already had their first kerfuffle. A number of fans received postcards advertising this event—without having signed up for any mailing list. Turns out the names came from Vulkon and Moonlight Rising photo shoots, information which was given solely for attendees to have their photographs mailed to them. No warning was ever given that this personal info might be shared. So how did it end up in the hands of AUP? Well, Vulkon and Moonlight Rising both shared a photographer, Craig Damon. Craig Damon is Julie Caitlin Brown’s husband. Draw your own conclusion.

Aside from the prices, I find that particularly disturbing, I really can´t imagine there is a good explanation for that.
Cartman: Mom--Kitty is being a dildo.

Mrs. Cartman: Well, I know a little kitty who is sleeping with Mommy tonight.

Dear DrG, yes we used, for one time only, the mailing list of our photographer, Craig Damon. We used the list to send a postcard announcing our event. We did not buy the list (as some people have asserted). Anyone who wrote to us and asked to be taken off of the list, their information was forwarded to Craig Damon, Photographer and their name has been taken off of the list. Their names were never put on an AUP mailing list.

There was never anything underhanded afoot. We were simply trying to get the word out there amongst the fans about our event. We did and do regret any inconvenience it caused anyone and have taken the necessary steps to correct the situation (taking their names off the list). We will not sell our mailing list (compiled from people who have signed up for our list or bought tickets) and if people do not want to receive future mailings from us, they will not.

And finally, I do agree it is wise to check out things before buying a ticket to a convention, so please ask whatever you would like.

edited to add: Regarding prices -- there are also Weekend passes that could included a free autograph with Amber and you get to see everything the other passes do. And we are also offering day passes to the event for Saturday or Sunday. Also, the concert tickets are open to the general public -- no convention pass necessary at this point.
