Many thanks for the "heads-up", frumpycat--now I'll have to tape the show as well as watch it;) ! It should be fascinating, since this is bound to be a very different (and older!) character than Willow or Michelle.

Incidentally, the picture accompanying the zap2it announcement is positively dazzling! :thud :drool

In other UPN news, Ostroff confirmed that Alyson Hannigan, erstwhile sidekick of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," will appear in

"several episodes" of "Veronica Mars".

Whoo hoo! Very cool! Thanks Incarnadine!

Although I was hoping that Alyson would get her own show I think this is the next best thing: becoming a regular on the first season of a well written, critically acclaimed drama show. Especially as the part sounds like it will not be Willow like and will allow Alyson to show her range. I was worried about Alyson becoming pigeon holed if she started to appear in more sitcoms…I much prefer her on a drama. And frankly, the Jennifer Love Hewitt thing sounds kind of dreckish and I didn’t think her appearance on That 70’s Show was that great. At least Veronica Mars has a proven track record with excellent writers.

Veronica Mars is a great show and I think it has potential to win Emmies, and hopefully Alyson appearing and maybe becoming a regular will help boost its ratings. And I’m hoping with Aly doing a great job on Veronica Mars it will translate into more interest for her having her own show.

Having said that I’m stoked that Alyson is going for a more dramaish part…I’d still love some Aly comedy! I would love her to make some guest appearances on Arrested Development ala Julia Louis Dreyfuss!

TV Guide approves--

WILLOW'S NEW ROOTS: It doesn't get much better than this, folks: One of our favorite Buffy alumnae, Alyson Hannigan, is all set to appear on the wittiest series since Buffy, UPN's Veronica Mars! As reported in this week's Ask Ausiello, Willow's portrayer will be playing rat-fink Logan's half sister, Trina Echolls, which makes her the daughter of either Harry Hamlin or Lisa Rinna. (Obviously, weirdnesswise, Neptune is worlds away from Sunnydale!) Anyone care to join us in saying, "Thank heavens Aly bailed on playing second banana to Jennifer Love Hewitt on ABC's In the Game!"?

It wasn't our world anymore, they made it theirs and they had fun - Willow

I am happy to hear that, I hope this show will live to see another season. In any case we get at least one and if Aly is added to it, that is all the more reason to cherish it.

Woo-hoo for Aly not being forced to suffer the indignity of playing comic foil/sidekick to JLH.

I'll have to start watching this Veronica Mars show now that we have a UPN station in my area when Aly's episodes air.

Willow on Veronica Mars! Now that the cat's out of the bag on that divine casting move from UPN I mentioned last week--Buffy's Alyson Hannigan playing Logan's sister on Veronica Mars--I had a few words (gushy ones) with the show's cast and creator Rob Thomas.

"I called and begged and begged and begged," Rob told me. "But the great thing about casting Alyson, her hesitation was like, 'Am I going back and doing the new Buffy?' But at the same time, she said she loved the show. She knew everything that was going on and she's a really big Jason Dohring [Logan] fan. And the fact that she would get to do scenes with Jason, actually, I think meant a lot to her."

It also meant a lot to Jason, especially given the alternative, who may surprise you. "I know originally we had thought of maybe Denise Richards to play the role of my sister," J.D. tells me, "but she would've brought a lot of people that would've seen it for only one show to check out if she was hot, you know? So it's great, 'cause Alyson will bring the Buffy crowd. And she was so nice, so wonderful. She was nicer than any of us. I'm not joking. She was, like, beautifully nice."

As for the show's chances of making it to season two, Rob is optimistic. "I think they're really good. The network loves us and treats us so well. They don't try to fix our show, and so often if you're not doing numbers, the network tries to fix it for you. And they have told us, 'You guys are doing the show we want. It's our job to get people to watch it.' So, that's been really lovely, and they're looking for any reason to keep us. If our numbers drop in these last nine episodes, I don't think we'd be back. If our numbers stay the same, we're probably 50/50. If they go up at all, if they see any hopeful sign, we'll be back. That's my guess, and I like our chances. I would bet on us before I'd bet against us."

That said, for the love of good TV, watch this show already! And tell your friends. Tuesday night. 9 p.m. UPN. Be there!

I'll have more scoop from Rob on the big reveal of Lilly Kane's murder and also Duncan's impending "health issue" in this Monday's chat.

Eee...a little creepy with all the love/love going everywhere in that article but what can you expect from a Kristen transcript.

If 1/10th is right tho it's very cool that the producer was knocking Alyson's door down to join. The love from producer coupled with her appearing in several episode's makes me speculate that Alyson backed out of the JLH thing for a good reason. And I'm stoked that Aly was worried about it becoming the new Buffy, etc,. The part of Logan's sister really now sounds like it won't be another Willow.....

Whoo hoo! I can't wait...I've been going through back episodes of VM in preparation.....

I loved the show long before hearing Aly would appear but I just love hearing how the VM cast keeps gushing over Aly. Here's a little something on Kristen Bell talking about Aly:

Hannigan, best know for her years as Willow Rosenberg on The WB and UPN's "Buffy," will still be returning to the small screen in the near future. As was reported last week, Hannigan will make a guest appearance on UPN's "Veronica Mars," playing the daughter of Harry Hamlin's Aaron Echolls. While conceived as a one-shot cameo, it could become a recurring part for Hannigan. Her episode will air on Feb. 22 and she has at least one important fan in the cast.

"When I met her, I was just floored at home wonderful she was," "Veronica Mars" star Kristen Bell told reporters last week. "She has a very sweet presence about her, very grateful, respectful. She's a wonderful woman to work with, I think, and was very sweet. And you know, I was just asking her questions about her experiences and she gave me some guidance and she was lovely."

Veronica Mars: Look at you, all helpful.

Logan Echols: Hey, your peskiness being unleashed on Conner brings me joy. Annoy, tiny blonde one, annoy like the wind!

AHHHH! I keep hearing all these wonderful things about VM, and now one more reason to watch! But unfortunately, I'm already hooked on Scrubs, which airs during the same time slot, and am so far impressed with the new show Committed (featuring the ever-lovely Tammy Lynn Michaels), which is on at 9:30. They've got to change the VM time slot! (Because I'm feeling selfish...)

There are 3 pics of Aly but you have to go through them 1 by 1, but it's worth it since those pics I posted earlier of Kristen Bell in that 80's Madonna outfit are from that episode and there are some nice pics of her mixed in with Aly's pics.

From the Ask Ausiello column in TVGuidedotcom--Question: In your esteemed opinion, what are the chances of Veronica Mars returning for a second season? — Moira Denning

Ausiello: If Alyson Hannigan joins the cast full-time: 50/50. If Alyson Hannigan doesn't join the cast full-time: 20/80.

A couple of unconfirmed rumorish stuff:

-Aly's role in the first episode she is in is very small and she plays a total beeyotch (and apparantly she was very nervous during the filming). (she's definitely in more than one episode however).

-Aly is in negotiations to become a regular on VM...its about finalizing the salary, but the producer luuuuurves her.

-VM has steadily been increasing its market share - esp. after AH was mentioned as guest starring.

Go Aly! And after stating that...I watched all the VM episodes back to back and realized...the writing really isn't all that...they really need her. Still, better than most stuff out there....

From judiq: Veronica Mars! Please, please with sugar on top!

Saw the episode with Alyson Hannigan, and it's fantastic. You Buffy fans will love seeing a whole new side to her--a scratch-your-eyes-out-and-piss-in-your-sockets side. This cat is one evil bee-yotch. And you'll feel sorrier than ever for Logan.

There was a promo for Ally's appearance next week during tonight's episode. Just a quick shot of her wearing a floppy hat and looking very Willow-y (in other words, cute as all get-out).

VM is a great show with or without her, but I hope she provides the ratings-jack they need.

Aly has confirmed that she will return the following week for a second episode, and that if the show is renewed she is looking at becoming a regular who will have her own arc in the series. She sure looked snarky in the quick teaser we had last night. Cannot wait until next week.

I love the teaser for the next week where AH says something snarky to the effect of..."Veronica Mars.....we should like...totally hang out."

I hope her appearance boosts up the ratings....from HIP's posts I knew they were poor but not that poor....At least they're improving somewhat...

Edited to add Dana's info:

Ausiello: OK, let's not get crazy now. We're not quite at the Battlestar Galactica stage yet. Veronica Mars I can do. Alyson Hannigan, who debuts Tuesday as Logan's spoiled half sister, has signed on to do a second episode, airing April 26. And Aly tells me she'll "hopefully have a big arc next season," too! Tuesday's episode, she points out, "is really just an introduction to [my character] and telling the audience that she exists so that later on I can actually have more to do. I hope it works out because it is such a great show and it was so much fun to do. But I got so nervous [on my first day]. I think I probably blew my first scene. I don't know what happened. I just got so nervous. It was as if I had never done a day on Buffy before!" Having seen her big debut, I can assure Aly that she has nothing to worry about. Our favorite little witch did just fine.

Veronica seems a lot like buffy - a stong female highschool heroine with a good wit - but instead of super powers she has detective skills and listening devices.

Be great to have AH on board and if she is playing a character with shades of both faith (bad girl) and cordie (with a upper class tude) it should be a fun ride for both AH as an actress and us.

new Aly interview

Postby willowlove » Thu Feb 17, 2005 1:48 pm

Zap2it has a new interview with Aly.

Hannigan Lands on 'Veronica Mars'

(Wednesday, February 16 02:20 PM)

By Kate O'Hare

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) On Tuesday, Feb. 22, Alyson Hannigan, who spent the final two of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" seven seasons on UPN, returns to the network in the first of two episodes of UPN's teen-mystery series "Veronica Mars."

Although Hannigan began acting in commercials at age four, she still had a bout of nerves when she arrived on the "Mars" sets in San Diego, Calif.

"I am a huge fan of the show," she says, "and when they asked me to do it, it was a little too hard to say 'no.' But I got so nervous, I couldn't even speak. It was as if I'd never, ever done any work before. It was very strange to me. I had total stage fright.

"I messed up most of my first scene. I thought, 'I just bombed.' It was interesting, but odd."

Hannigan plays Trina Echolls, half-sister of Logan (Jason Dohring), a high-school nemesis of sleuth Veronica (Kristen Bell). Of late, Logan and Veronica have struck up a truce, as she helps him answer questions he has about the supposed suicide of his mother, Lynn Echolls (Lisa Rinna), wife of movie star Aaron Echolls (Harry Hamlin, Rinna's real-life spouse).

"She's a Hollywood brat," says Hannigan of Trina. "She's a poor little rich girl. She's got rich parents, so she's spoiled, but trying to be an actress in her own right, but that's not going well.

"She's a party girl, likes to spend money that isn't hers. It was fun, because it was a complete departure from the other parts I've been playing for the last seven years."

Some consider "Veronica Mars," with its spunky female lead, to be a worthy successor to "Buffy."

"Nice," Hannigan says. "They were talking about being compared to 'Buffy,' which I'm sure is annoying for them, but it's actually a good thing. There's always going to be some sort of comparisons, and at least it's a show that was also critically acclaimed, instead of some sort of bad show. I would hope that 'Buffy' fans would watch it."

At this writing, Hannigan is back in San Diego, shooting her second episode, called "Hot Dog," currently scheduled to air on April 19.

Hannigan has had a couple of comedy pilots, one for NBC and one for ABC, not survive to air, so right now, she's just happy to be on "Mars."

"Hopefully they'll get picked up for a second season, and there'll be more of a big arc for my character. Call me optimistic, but if UPN wants to have good shows on the network, I would think they'd keep the ones they have.

"They need to keep 'Veronica Mars,' because it's such a good show. I don't understand why people aren't watching it."

a mention in Entertainment Weekly

Postby cperrins78 » Fri Feb 18, 2005 10:14 pm

There was a mention of Alyson Hannigan being on Veronica Mars in EW this week. Here's what was written.

Alyson Hannigan just can't stay away from a sly, sexy blonde who kicks butt. Once agaoin the Buffy star casts a captivating spell as Trina, the wayward half sister of Logan. Her unexpected arrival adds a layer of complexity to an episode packed with mysteres to vex amateur sleuth Veronica. It's a geek fanboy's dream come true. But this vastly undervalued series is still in the ratings cellar, so hurry up and check it out before Hannigan is forced to ger her blonde fix on Hope & Faith.
