Amber at FedCon (GERMANY!)

according to their homepage Amber is going to appear at Federation Con XII this year. The convention will be in Bonn, Germany from May, 21st to May, 23rd and I was going to be there anyway

FedCon is over. But I met Amber again! The whole weekend was WOW!!! I hope she soon comes back to Germany.

Amber was awesome! She is a total cutie, very nice, funny, has an incredible laughter (and amazingly soft hands ).



I'll try to give you some kind of wrap-up, but since I don't have a transcript, this is all paraphrased. There will be a con DVD though, so there is something to look forward to. I also made lots of photos, but won't be able to upload them till the end of the week.



I also ask you to forgive me, when I tell stuff everyone knows already. I'm not going to try and sort that out. I'll just post anything I can remember (there certainly is no attempt of chronology either).



At her first talk I asked her to sing "Under your spell" for us. Of course (you get to learn something when going to conventions for years ) I had the lyrics with me and gave them to her. She sang the first part (up until whe she goes "I'm under your spell..." for the first time) und was the interrupted by applause, but she insisted to do the "spread beneath my Willow tree" part, too and had a very ... seductive look when doing that. She also said she couldn't believe, they did that "You make me com-plete" thing. (Btw, I got back those lyrics and had her sign them )



She was asked whether she knows about the fanfics on the web and whether she reads them. She said she does know, but that reading them is very strange since she seems to be doing it with everybody. She just has trouble imagening Spike and Rupert, yet alone Tara, covering her eyes going "I...I...I c..can s..see male body p..parts"



She's a big Harry Potter fan and recently reread all five books. Her favorite characters are Sirius and Hagrid.



Michelle Trachtenberg is like a little sister to her and she's always like (imagine her cutest voice here) "No, you can't have boyfriends. You're fifteen." which earns her the inevitable "I'm 18!".



She thinks her playing Tara actually damaged her acting career more than it helped ("No, we can't tak her. She's the lesbian witch from Buffy!" [f.ck Hollywood]), but also said that she doesn't give a damn, as that just gives her more time to spend writing/producing...



She liked Taras part from the beginning, but loved it when the lesbian aspect became evident, since that was a chance to really make a difference.



She was asked about her foot and said something like: "I'll tell you two stories, one is true the other is a lie, and then you can decide which one you think is which. The first one: I was parachuting and when jumping out of the plane I hit my foot and had to land on the broken foot, which was really painful. The second: I dropped a giant garbage can on it. [Laughter, and then in a very cute voice:] And if you picked the first one,... well then you're wrong."



She picked up a few German words only to learn that there were lots of Belgians, Dutch... so she always ended up using the "wrong" language. She also said she'll start swearing in German.



She was never asked to appear in the credits, but didn't push for it either. She also said she might have gone along with it if anyone had ever asked her, but liked the flexibility of being able to do other things while being on the show.



She was asked about gay marriage and [big surprise] is absolutely in favor of it: "You should be able to marry anyone you love." She also repeatedly said that she doesn't give a damn about people who can't deal with it and that she really doesn't get why they think it's any of their business. She also said, that - of course - they were discussing issues like that on the set. [which makes the way Joss dealt with it even worse, IMO]



She also was asked about Tara's death and said that she didn't like how completely senseless it was. "Joss never meant to hurt anyone, but he did. He hurt a lot of people and I didn't want to be a part of this anymore. Sometimes you just have to do what your heart tells you, and it just didn't feel good". Joss told her, that he wanted to bring Willow and Tara back together, but she just didn't feel like she could trust him not to mess around with the storyline. So she opted to not return at all to avoid hurting anyone any further.



I got the chance to thank her for not playing "bad Tara" at the second autograph session. She told me again, that she didn't feel like she could be sure everything would turn out OK, and that if she had signed a contract she would have been obliged to play whatever was presented to her. [I really love her for that more than for anything else ]



I gave her "greetings from the kittens" and she said (and that one is an exact quote): "Tell them, I love them!"



I also bought Chance even though it was very expensive, but I figured, that this kind of stuff is exactly why I have a job aside from studying.



That's it for now. If i remember anything else I'll add that later.

In every Con report I've read Amber sounds like an amazing person, and the nicest as well...just makes me love her all the more! Now if only she'd come to New Zealand!

For her to turn down work because she felt she couldn't trust Joss with the characters - well - what can I say - the woman is tops in my book!

It sucks that playing Tara damaged her acting career, but the fact that she doesn't give a damn shows what kind of person she is



What she says about not trusting Joss says it all to me. Remember, this is not from someone who was in one ep, or someone who never spent any time at all with Joss. This is from someone who spend years working with him and even spent time at his house. So for her to say this, it truly says something about his character (or lack there of.)



Of course we already knew that he can’t be trusted with anything, but I have to say, I really, really enjoyed reading these words coming from Amber herself.

Thanks kukalaka!!!! I think playing Tara was just a way point in Amber's career. I'm sure she will go on to better things with people she can actually trust will be able to write good stories.

Thanks kukalaka, it seems you had all your wits about you. You got her to sing and got to feel some soft hands apparently. Good for you.



There is no doubt at all about her integrity, it sounds like she is speaking her mind more freely about certain things as time passes. Her answer about gay marriage does not surprise me at all but it is very pleasing to know she said it out loud. I trust her to continu to make a difference in people´s lives.



I wish someone would organize an Amber Q&A or something in Amsterdam so I could go see it. I know how much fun it is to watch and listen to her in a Q&A. She really has a great sense of humour and can easily talk for an hour without stopping. She should start doing one woman shows.

However, she did not say she didn't trust Joss as a person, but that she didn't trust him not to change his mind about the storylines. Try and avoid mixing that up please or she'll probably become more careful with her statements.



However she also said that Joss told her Tara would die at the beginning of the 5th season [I knew that] and I'm sure if he had said "but don't worry, we'll bring her back eventually" at that time she'd have had no reason to doubt him. Just my 2 cent.



I also got a photo with her. I had to sit down, since she had to sit because of her foot. The photographer looked through his camera, looked up again and said "You'll have to get closer together!" and I couldn't help thinking "well, isn't that a pity..."

On a side note, Amber is the only star that was at this year's FedCon that got a "I loved her so much, wasn't she just great" thread on the con board (And that's something that really only the best get.)





Garfield: Being the logical person I usually am I should have said "at least one soft hand" And I actually haven't been that nervous for quite a while. As I said before, I've been to quite a few conventions. You kinda get used to seeing stars and talking to them, but this really was different. I'm glad I used to chance to get used to asking questions with stars that don't mean as much to me as Amber or I surely would not have had any of my wits about me.

thanks for the pics and the stories, guys. i got the warm fluffies a few times she's one of the most gracious and kind people i have ever come across, with a fantastically high rate of integrity and professionalism in a business that doesn't see much of that.

that's a pretty spiffy, high tech cast she has. my goodness. i got uncomfortable just looking at it it!! and. amber was wearin' chucks. that settles it--she really is as close to perfection as anyone can be.

but anyway. woot for all of you that got to go--i'm all jealous!! i wish i could remember more of the time i met her.....ah well. guess that means i'll just have to go find her again sometime. shucks.

All I can say is that Amber loves us Kittens and we love her right back, if not exponentially greater.

She is such a fount of truth-telling and stands up for what she believes in.

I love and admire her the most for telling it as she sees it and the consequences be damned.

We all knew Joss is a complete shit and that he plays psycho mind games with people since he has no honour about him.

Amber can spend more time writing/producing/directing projects that she feels passionate about and that reflect aspects of who she is and what she stands for.

It was so much fun to see Amber so relaxed on stage again. She handled the situation with her broken foot really well. She couldn´t sit still for a few minutes. She was always moving on the chair.

A lot of people were really amazed by her openly friendly nature.
