I had the visual for Hellebore going in my head. Just needed a certain redhead to show up.. :wtkiss
LOL. I actually like Holiday Wishes. Sure, not gonna win an emmy, but not a bad way to spend the evening when you're sick and curled up on the sofa. ( No worse than Date Movie, really)
The good trhings about this movie: Amber got paid, she got to travel, we got Amber back and it came on on a Saturday night, when quite honestly, not that many people are watching TV and even fewer are watching the Sci-fi channel. Really, not even necessary to add it to her resume. Its not like producers and directors are going to be asking about it. She can just sweep it under the rug, as it were. No one really needs to know.

I'm not surprised it didn't do well. TV Movies seem to fail quite frequently.
At least, Amber tried - and I couldn't see it :sob because I don't have cable.

So, I may be a little biased here. (I am officially addicted to fics.) But the movie would have been better if instead of Mr. New Jersey, you had a certain lovable red head. Now that would have made it alot better. But that's just me. (hearing writers wheels turning). It would be more plausable that yes they would fall in love and have babies and start a kingdom (or queeendom). That I would pay to see. Now as far as the movie goes, it was o.k. I liked it more because I had been sick all week and needed a distraction. I will watch it when I am well and see if it really was shite. :peace

That was a piece of shit. I have a new rule that I think I just made up. Any movie that starts with "A John X Film," when you've never heard of John X, is going to be a piece of shit.

Even simple editoral matchup seemed to be beyond this movie. In the scene where Amber has a knife to the princes throat in the tent, I swear the position of her hair changes about three times.

And a few words about costuming. Okay, I can accept that Amber's character invented the off-the-shoulder tunic look centuries before the filming of "Flashdance" began.

(I can accept that, because frankly, I like Amber's shoulder and anything that exposes it to camera is ok by me.)

However, about the porno witches, I had no idea fake red leather had been invented in the middle ages.

Re acting, okay, I admit I'm biased, but Amber did seem to be trying harder than most of the rest of the cast. But even she looked like she'd lost her heart for it a couple of times.

I can't blame her. There's only so much you can do with a script that asks you to deliver lines like "Let us return them to the hell from whence they came!" with a straight face.

However, all is not lost. Should you wish to watch this movie again, I have come up with a way to make it bearable. I give you: The Gryphon drinking game.

It works like this. Every time they rip-off The Lord of the Rings, you take a sip.

Every time a character delivers a line that is nothing but exposition, you take a shot. You know, the kind of dialogue that makes you expect the characters to turn towards camera and say "Everybody got that?"

Every time the exposition is something they've already established more than three times (like did we mention the prince has the sight?) you take a big swig.

Every time a character speaks to another and identifies his-or-relationship to them in the dialogue, like this-

"The hordes are coming, father!"
"Go now, daughter, and be swift!'
"Look, my leige!"
"I will have my vengence on you, sorceror!"
"Do not worry, my friend."

--and so on, you chug.

You should start to see the room spinning within 10 minutes.

Enjoy!
Ben

The USEnet is actually one of the older parts of the internet. It was originally intended for people to post text messages in newsgroups on various subjects, like on the old "bulletin board" setups and the like, but over time people figured out how to post binary files on them as well.

At one time, pretty much all internet service providers had a news reader function associated with them. I don't know whether they still do. You can check your ISP's home page and find out. There are also news servers you can subscribe to.

USEnet news groups can be read using Outlook Express, or with a newsreader program. My personal favorite is XNews, which you can download here:

http://xnews.newsguy.com/

Once you're connected, you can go to one of the newsgroups I listed and download the file. It's in pieces, and you'll need WinRAR to put it back together, but it's there.

Or if all that sounds way too computer geeky, you can wait for molsongrrrl to put her copy up.

Okay... I can't help but saying I had to laugh at the cartoon quality of the fx of the "gryphon". However, I thought the movie was actually pretty decent. Some of the lines seemed forced and the first time AB's character was in the tent with the Delphi... wtf? I got why she was there the second time... she wanted to know all she could about the legend, but why was she there the first time?

Someone? Anyone? I had to watch it again to make sure I wasn't missing something, but the reason still wasn't there for the first visit.

Ahh... the things we say when we're dumbfounded...
Amber: "Hi I'm Amber... and this is (referring to Adam Busch)...

Me: "I know who he is... (scowling) He's the guy who killed your character."

Amber stifling a chuckle: "This is Adam."

Well, having just watched it, since I had to work last night and set the DVR to record it, I have to say I'm all with the Gryphon-y goodness!.
This was a fine and noble variation upon the themes of my favorite film genre i.e, the 1980's sword/sorcery fantasy adventure film.
You don't need all manner of digital jiggery-pokery to tell an old-fashioned tale of knights, princesses, winged beasties, and villainous power-mad sorcerors who have agendas all their own.
A more elegant tale for a more civilised age, perhaps, "Gryphon" has all the hallmarks of good wholesome family entertainment; the kind of fairytale that has been passed down through the generations of numerous cultures since man climbed down from the trees, ventured out of the caves, and crawled out of the sea for the first time.
Amber really had a marvelous time playing the role of a princess who was also a well-seasoned warrior as well.
Amelia was the sort of character whom young females could look up to and aspire to be like as a role model as she possesses any number of positive character traits.
Loyalty, bravery, independence, nobility, passion, devotion, the ability to use her feminine wiles.
Amber was in a rich and splendorous environment and got to ride a horse, fight duels with swords, wear a suit of armor, and engage in other classic elements of the Norse and Celtic legends.
The tent scene deserves to have a moment of reverent silence paid to it so a pause of sighing deeply betides that scene.
The legends always involve a prophecy which tells of a child of royal blood who will unite the kingdoms and rule them in peace and harmony.
This child is the trump card that the sorceror cannot beat as his chosen queen has already given herself to one she loves.
Amber stood proud and fiery gold she glories with her smudges of dirt and her sexy milky white shoulders on display.
I'm going to start working on the script for "Gryphon II:The Tears of the Basilisk"
I can deny chicks in chainmail nothing.

ok the movie is ready!

go to:

ftp://64.202.163.201/

or:

ftp://molsonsplaceonline.com/

username: myspace16
pw: Cinema16

you will find 2 Gryphon folders - one with the movie split into 3 files - the other just has the complete movie in one file.

for those who have du or a slower hifh speed connection - the 3 parts might work better for you for downloading.

enjoy!

re: ambers back - my thoughts exactly

have to say - this was not a really well written movie - formulaic to the extreme - I can only imagine how painful it was for the actors to spout that dialogue - predictable - and could we get any more cliche?

Amber tried hard with this drivel - I really felt sorry for all the actors in this one

A million thanks to molsongrrrl :bow Not having access to the Sci-Fi Channel, I'm immensely relieved that I'll get the chance to see this cinematic... um... what's the word? Okay, so it's evidently godawful. But there's Amber, and I like Andrew Prowse's work on Farscape - even if the script is as shoddy as it sounds, I think there's a fair chance it may fall into that category of bad movie that I adore. Besides, I just finished watching (and loving) Beastmaster, where the special effects consisted of them dyeing a tiger black and pretending it's a panther.

Coincidentally, Amber's episode of Supernatural aired last night here - it's shaping up to be a very Ambery week.

Thank you thank you thank you molsongrrrl !!! If my mouth isn't stuff with pop corns I'll be kissing you right now... though you probably won't want me to do that even without the pop corns... :blush

Good thing that I've read the reviews you guys left before watching the movie, so it's actually a bit better than what I've expected... The story idea actually isn't bad, even if the script's kinda... suck. I was laughing even harder than I watched Date Movie.

And I know TV movie usually don't have that big budget, and all the money probably went into the barely acceptable CGI, but c'mon. So many fight scenes and half of them looks like human actually got no blood? You got two guys fighting in a sword fight, one got gutted and the sword has blood less than the amount I loss in a paper cut. There's no lack of bodies in the movie, and yet most of them (except couple scenes at the end of the movie) don't have a single drop of blood on them. What the hell?!

Amber's doing a great job though, I'm so happy that I got to watch Supernatural (well... again) yesterday and watch her movie today. Kinda make up for the bad script... :smug

Thank you molsongrrrl! I am going to have to agree with the vast majority of critics here -- it was laughble. The plotline was so transparent that the predict-a-scenario I blurted as it started actually ended up being 100% accurate!

And, while I would have enjoyed less makin' it for no good reason with the vapid-son-of-the-seer/magic/queen it would have meant less back -- and the back shots were niiiice.

Plus, Amber's character so should have killed the Gryphon, jeez. Chain Mail! She was the poster girl for god's sakes!!! They dressed her in chain mail so she could what -- strip down to a flashdance tunic and talk sternly with a wierd fat guy? Grumble.

Anyway -- back to the main point which is to thank molsongrrrl for making this available to folks like me who haven't got the sifi channel!

Nah, the worst thing I've ever seen of Amber would be "Don's Plum."
"Gryphon gave us such lingering shots of Amber's back and some hot off the shoulder action of her creamy porcelain skin with her hair hanging down over it.
She got to stand up and do the proto-feminist "I won't be fought over" speech and she looked hot in chainmail and dirt smudges.

Okay, I want to throw a word out here, for those of us who didn't get to see it because we had to work and our Significant Others can't handle a VCR to save their lives....

SCREENCAPS!

I have dialup, so downloading an entire movie is just not an option. Could I see a few captures of this steaming turkey for the Ambery goodness? That naked back scene, for instance.

Much appreciation in advance...
