Tower Says

Postby LostSoul » Wed Sep 25, 2002 6:42 pm

I called Tower this afternoon and was told that there will be no tickets or wristbands for this event. It's on a first come first served basis. So I'm planning on getting there early (although it's a 2 1/2 hour drive from where I live.

I see someone is planning on getting there at 6 or 7. That's way early for me. But, I could imagine being there around 8 or so.

Since the information Tower is giving out could change. I suggest that several of us call in an attempt to get the correct info.

Hmmm

Postby Rally » Thu Sep 26, 2002 10:38 am

Just want to give a heads up to everyone, found this in the paper today:

Recent spate of anti-gay violence creates fear, mobilization in West Hollywood

PAUL CHAVEZ, Associated Press Writer Thursday, September 26, 2002

(09-26) 00:48 PDT WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) --

Police have stepped up patrols in this gay enclave near the Sunset Strip and residents are on alert after four gay men were attacked with baseball bats and metal pipes.

"I'm 6-foot-4 and I'm still afraid," said Thom Cook, 41, a friend of one of the victims. "I'm more cognizant of where I go, what time I go out, my surroundings, noises behind me, cars pulling up behind me."

The three attacks began Labor Day weekend when two men struck Treve Broudy, 33, with a bat late at night after he had embraced a male friend. Broudy lay near death for several days; he remained in serious condition Wednesday. The friend was also struck but not seriously injured.

The same night, a 35-year-old man was similarly attacked but suffered only bruises.

Early Sunday, a 55-year-old man walking alone was beaten by two men yelling anti-gay epithets and wielding a bat and a pipe. A passing taxi driver broke up the assault, and the victim was hospitalized.

Detectives believe the incidents may be related, said sheriff's Deputy Steve Jauch. No arrests have been made.

The attacks have led to an increased police patrols, including the posting of undercover deputies in nightspots. A reward of more than $90,000 was offered for information leading to the suspects.

The City Council in this community of 36,000 also approved free personal safety classes and urged residents to form neighborhood watch programs.

"People really feel nervous walking down the street and we need to address that," said Karl Lott, who helped organize a Tuesday night safety meeting at a church near the site of one attack.

The attacks have put gays on alert throughout California, which has seen an increase in such crimes in recent years.

In Los Angeles County, there were 95 attacks against people in the gay, lesbian and transgender community in 2001, compared with 36 in the previous year, said Roger Coggan, director of legal services and public policy for the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center.

A state report also noted a 5.8 percent increase in the number of anti-gay hate crimes from 1995 to 2000.

The longer trend of increasing violence can be attributed to a variety of factors, including gay-related ballot measures and the weak economy, said Jason Riggs, spokesman for the Gay Community Center in San Francisco.

"When people find themselves in intolerable situations in other parts of their lives, their tolerance level also decreases for vulnerable communities," he said.

Okay, I'll be there between 8 and 9am. In case anyone's looking, I'm 5' 8", around 200 lbs and have long reddish hair worn in back. I also have a red beard. In my hands will be a dark tote bag with the Egyptian Cat Goddess Bastet on it (in honor of all Kittens!) and--in light of the above--a wood cane. Strength in numbers, folks.

If it be there I care not of that other Book above.
Strike it out! Or write it in anew, but
Let my name be in the Book of Love!"

I am listening to the mp3 of the Succubus Club from last night, and a guest on the show says that she got a ticket for this event from a radio station. So local Kittens may want to dig a little deeper into this.

Got a feeling that certain radio outlets might be doing a special contest but haven't heard either way. I'll keep checking, even going tonight and then again tomorrow night to speak with the manager to confirm what the hell will actually be going on. As of this morning this comes from Hiedi at Tower, ususally they do signings on the day of the actually release and you have to buy the item which gets you a wristband but she said this was a special case and that it was first come first serve. Like I said, will be checking back.

And, yet, I just can't seem to care

I was wondering if one of you lucky Kittens that are going to the signing would take pity on a poor deprived Aussie Kitten and grab 2 CDs for me and if it is not too much trouble get Amber to sign them for me. :D

I will pay all costs - I can send funds via Pay Pal, Int. Money Order or whatever suits.

If you are able to help please drop me an e-mail

Just got off the phone with Tower Records and they again said no tickets or wristbands but they would like you to purchase the soundtrack. He wouldn't give out any other info like whether or not they would sign other items and actually who would be there. They open up at 10:00am and the event is at 1:00pm. So I guess I'll be there early to put my chair out and make sure if anything woky does go down I'll be ready.

Someone PLEASE make a nice shirt that says something like...

-------------

Got Tara?

Got Ratings?

You know They're related, right?

-------------

Or

---------------------

"No Tara= No ratings."

---------------------

Or

--------------

"BtVS now with 100% less Tara, 37 % fewer viewers."

--------------

Okay, so I am bitter and want to RUB IT IN. I want Whedon to see a HUGE turn out for AMBER, not BtVS.

Hmm, maybe " Kittens: our bite is bigger than our meow. FF down, two more to go."

and for those who were secret Spuffers... use that shirt with Buffy and Spike in the heart and underneath "Stand by your rapist," or "Where do we go from here? ... Go directly to rape counseling, that's where."

Yep. Very bitter.

L

EDITED TO ADD:

Kendahl,

I'm actually editing the update right now. What time are you leaving? ;-) It will be at lest two hours before I post it. I want it up for people to read instead of watching FF. If you are gonna be gone already... email me. I'll send you an unedited chapter. BUT, you have to give Joss a dirty look for me.

Lisa, those are great..Y'know all it really takes is a pack of t-shirts and a permanent marker..And a HUGE fan turn-out for Amber would be great. It lets Joss know that Amber/ Tara was more popular than they ever imagined.

Are you going to have an update before you leave..I'm having withdrawals.

With all the money I spent to get to Alabama...there is just no way I could afford to go to this. But by god....if something like this ever happens again...I am so there. If I was there...I could ask Amber what in the hell she meant when she rubbed my head and told me I was sweet. I didn't do anything remotely sweet...lol. That has actually bothered me since I got back home. People keep asking why she did that....anyway. Off to read the pens board.

I'm with Lisa of Nine - nail him on the ratings. We need to connect the dots for Joss 'cause he's going to blame everyone but himself for The Bug, Buffy and Angel being in the dumps: when you have what they call a 'cult following' for your show, you shouldn't 'dis your fans. Treat you fans poorly, and they'll quit watching.

I hope all the kittens meeting Amber tomorrow have a great time! Give her some hugs from the rest of us. :D I'm sure this is not too hard to do... ;)

This woman is so amazing! I may be wrong but, of all the Buffy actors, she seems to be the most active. It almost feels like we have a monthly Amber sighting! What makes life much more enjoyable, of course... ;)

And, no matter how tired she is, she always has nice words and the sweetest smile in the world for whoever gets close to her. She's really one of a kind. :clap
