Who would or could possibly pay more for the Chance dvd or vhs than it already is? If someone put Chance on Ebay for more than it is going for now, then a person who bought it would be really very not smart. I mean, they don't even get the poster!

Now, if someone put their copy up for whatever reasons (maybe they didn't like it or something, shocking, I know) and wanted to sell it for less, I think that's a cool idea. Afterall, if this is all about her fans seeing it, then if someone sold it for less, that's a fan who if they couldn't buy it before can now buy the dvd and watch it.

I tend to agree with Kasey, I mean this kind of thing happens with everything- CDs, tapes, DVDs, video games...

Don't tell me you never bought a CD on e-bay! (if it's the case, then I'm out of arguments)

This is about how when someone sells Chance on eBay, they are taking money away from Amber. Whoever buys that DVD is paying someone else, not Amber.

This is no fan of Amber. Just someone looking to make some quick $$$

We all know people can burn DVDs, so if they want they burn their own copy and sell the original or whatever, it isn't illegal but maybe it's wrong. Maybe it's not the kind of thing as a fan I would want to do to Amber, as a fan.

I do buy from ebay. If I purchase a new item from ebay is so that the maker won't make money off me. I think many of us here know how that works with certain dvds from a certain show.

I also buy from ebay when an item is not available through any other means, cd is out of print or whatever.

I also buy trading cards from ebay because I could spend hundreds of dollars looking for a certain card, and I can spend less than that on ebay. I still buy the main set, but I don't take a chance on individual cards.

It's how I like to be fair, especially if I want the person who made it to get my money.

It's like going to amber and getting a picture signed, I ask her to sign it to me, because it means something to me. I don't ask her to just sign it without a name so I can make money off her on ebay. That doesn't seem right to me and I am not gonna do that, just like I wouldn't buy a DVD from her just to profit on it from ebay. Or worse, in the case of these people, they are getting a DVD that is being replaced by Benson Entertainment and are now selling the faulty dvd. It's not the behavior of a fan.

But it isn't illegal and they're free to do it, it's all about making money anyway. But personally, I'd rather take the high ground.

Actually, I never have, heh, but that does not mean that I'm against selling or buying things on ebay. The fact that Chance is being auctioned off at all, let alone so soon, surprised me though. I assumed everyone who ordered a copy is an Amber fan and for them to be selling it off almost like a week after they must have gotten it does not feel like a compliment to Amber. Whoever buys it won't have to buy it from Amber now, that does not seem right to me if you want to support her. If they are selling a faulty PAL DVD, or even a good PAL DVD knowing they are getting a new one or have made a copy themselves then it seems wrong altogether. She's an idependant artist, she doesn't have a big movie studio backing her up and selling her DVDs to the masses, every little bit counts.

Actually no I haven't as it turns out. However, as Xita said, even if I did it would only be because I was unable to get it via any other means.

Incidentally the DVD I saw for sale on e-bay was being sold (at that time, it may have risen by now) for $60 USD which is in fact far more expensive than it would be to just buy it from Amber.

Yeah, well, if it's just about the money, it's not cool. But let's face it, everything these days is about money (sadly)... God, I'm so depressed, I'm gonna go watch ER!

Edited after watching ER : now I'm even more depressed... and grossed out! lol

i have bought a number of dvds that i later sell on ebay simply because i don't want them anymore - for whatever reason. i don't see what the issue is in doing that -- i paid for the dvd - so whats the difference if i sell it at a garage sale or on ebay? i'm not saying "chance" is going to be on sale by me ... i am just saying i have supported amber by buying the poster and movie. if at some time in the future i decide to sell the movie - that doesn't mean i'm suddenly not a fan - it means i was clearing out some old stuff taking up space in my apartment ...

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of Truth and Love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it, always.

ebay

Postby Iamyouknowyours » Mon Sep 29, 2003 10:52 am

I tend to agree that people should be allowed to sell what they want on ebay IF it is a legal copy (not burned or VCD) and IF it is not faulty. Amber has been paid for that copy of the movie when the first person bought it. Granted the second person buying it gives no money directly to Amber, but the copy has been paid for. I use e-bay a lot for my movies (no, never sold anything on it and I would sell my kidneys before getting rid of my copt of Chance). If there were no ebay I would not have had a copy of Rip It Off or The King Of The Hill. Do I feel guilty for purchasing the movies that way? No, there was no other way for me to get them as they were out of print/not in print. Now I must add that it is sad that people will be paying more for the movie than Amber charges. My guess is that they have not been to the kitten or Amberoholics and do not realize that Amber is selling it with the poster/picture deal. I can imagine that news could be quite hard to come by if you look in the wrong places. Why I can remember bidding on a copy of Winding Roads that ended up at over $40. Silly really. I stopped bidding before the price it costs to order a new copy of the video from the maker. Some people just don't think about that.

I do hope most fans will be holding on to their copies of Chance for the sheer enjoyment factor of being able to watch it. And I think the most important thing is that as many people as possible are able to see the film. I'm going to show it to as many of my friends as I can.

If they are selling a copy, they suck. If it’s their own copy, well they paid for it they could do with it what they like. If it’s a defective copy, they better say that when they are selling it, but it seems wrong to sell it if they are getting another copy.

Am I the only one who's curious about how many DVD/photos were sold? I know it's none of my business, but we're so used to check the box office/sales of our favorite movies (i.e American Pie) and celebrate a high number... I'd love to do the same for Chance...

Not sure if I'm making much sense tonight... oh well.

No, shieila wt, you are not the only one who is curious. I would really like to know how many copies of Chance have been sold.

I've ordered and recieved a DVD for myself then a VHS as a gift for a friend.

You are making a lot of sense, IMO.

Thanks, Janice. :)

Let's hope one day BE releases some numbers.

Also, according to Amber's interview on Curve, she still has hopes that a distribution deal might come up someday. That would be very cool. I'd probably buy 3 or 4 more copies to give to friends if I could get it at the store for a normal DVD price.

Have any Brits received their copy of the DVD yet?

I noticed payment was processed on my CC two statements ago so I've been expecting it to show up but a yet nothing has arrived. (I'm sure I ordered the NTSC format)

Anyone in the UK got theirs yet?

I ordered mine in the beginning of August and received the DVD about a month ago.

:hmm it seems it only took a month and a half for the dvd to arrive, it seemed like it was longer than that when I was actually waiting for it.

Thanks for the info. I've sent an e-mail to Mrs. B to see if she can find out what's happened to mine. Payment was processed mid July.

I did get my picture weeks ago and it was damaged - she kindly replaced it for me. I'm wondering if the DVD was sent the same time it got damaged or lost too. :(

I'm not having much luck, you cold say 'chance' is not on my side ;) First off my photo arrived (just over a month ago) all tattered and torn. BE kindly sent me another one.

I e-mailed them this week to see if they'd sent off the DVD and it seems they sent it to me around the same time they sent the photo - Sept 10th. It's still not here. So I'm guessing it went the same way as the pic, only some post 'person' kept the DVD for themselves. I guess that means they have good taste - just no morals! I hope they enjoyed it - and it's not the one up on e-bay!

BE have kindly saod they will send me another copy, bless em.

I hope no one else has had the bad luck I've had. Hopefully this means that by the time she comes to Glasgow only good things can come my way and I'll be able to have a fun 'Evening with Amber' :)

I want to spread some happy and tell everyone that I received my picture, poster, and DVD all in perfect condition. In fact, I just got my poster back from the framing shop last night. I'm thrilled with the way it looks, and I'm excited to have it nestled safely in the confines of its new home behind non-glare glass. :party

I'm sorry so many kittens have had items show up damaged, or not show up at all. But I have to say I'm impressed with BE's willingness to resend items when they've been reported missing or damaged. That's money straight out of their pockets. In my more naive days, I purchased things from eBay without buying insurance, and had the items show up broken...which of course left me S.O.L. So, in fact, I'm just pretty impressed with BE in general. :clap

BE Customer Care :)

Postby Chino6069 » Fri Oct 24, 2003 4:51 pm

I have to grant kudos to BE. They have been great about my probs. It's not their fault our postal service can't take care of the items under their care but BE do care.

I did PAYPAL money to them to send me another picture but they put it right back into my account a few days later. :bow

Not many companies would do that, they really are an amazing bunch.

I can't wait for Amber to come back to Glasgow. :)
