I'll add my voice to the general chorus of approval...
1. First and foremost, I think this film was the best vehicle for her particular talents since BtVS (and, of course, her own films). It was wonderfully cute, without being "cutesy" or arch, and movingly sentimental, without being mawkish or cloying. Say what you will about Lifetime, in this instance they came through.
2. The film provided a real showcase for her range, from funny to tearful. It is difficult under the best of circumstances to bring off either an off-screen voiceover
or a "face-the-camera" narration, and she brought them both off successfully! A lot of the dialogue was not of the highest quality, but she made it all work (I wonder...she is a writer...maybe she contributed some of the better lines herself!) .
3. Several posters have remarked about the wardrobe. I think this was a deliberate choice: remember, the character is supposed to be someone who thinks of herself as "plain".
4. A real pity we didn't get some actual skinny-dipping in the skinny-dipping scene (if this were the 70s or the 80s, we would have

)
5. We also got to hear her sing.
On the whole, then, a very positive experience.
